WRT54GS - Internet Connection Stopping/Hanging

Hi,
Just got the WRT54GS, had it about a week.
Whenever I hit an internet site, it will load about 80% of it and stop or hang. If i refresh the page it will finish downloading it (most of the time).
This is happening to all computers accessing the router, both wireless and the one that is wired (Ethernet) in.
I know it's not the internet connection itself, as I can use it without going through the router without any issues.
I've upgraded the firmware and played with a few of the settings without resolution.
Any ideas would be helpful as this is getting fairly annoying especially as getting a Linksys was supposed to solve all my networking issues.
My info:
Router - WRT54GS v7
Firmware- 7.50.5
Connection - DSL
Computers - 6 total (although normally 3 at the most at a time) all running XP sp3.
Encryption - WEP 128
Wireless Network Mode - G (all computers are G compliant)
Thank you for your time.
Troy

Thank you for your reposes.
Tried the above suggestions to no real success.
My latest shot is that i've changed the encryption key to WPA-Personal.
It goes great guns for 2 minutes ... then sits for about 20 seconds and then goes great guns for 2 minutes.
Very frustrating.
Is it possible that I got a bad router to begin with? Is there really any way to tell?
Is it possible that one of my neighbors have a router that interferes with mine? What would cause the 2 minutes on 20 seconds off?
Thoughts?
Thank you
troy

  • Internet Connect Consistently Hangs On Startup

Anytime the computer is shut down and has to be restarted, Internet Connect always hangs without fail. It appears to actually connect, but quickly thereafter, I get the prompt that tells me that it's unexpectedly quit. When I try again, I'm successful. All disconnects and connections thereafter work until I shut my computer down and have to restart.
I've gone so far as to reinstall from the DVD, backing up, and selectively reinstalling third party apps, but the problem persists. Anyone else encountering this problem, which came bundled with my new 20" G5 iMac and Tiger?

    Hi, WildBill —
I hope you'll forgive if it takes me a moment to get acquainted. It's been a long time since I used Internet Connect.
How are you using it — Bluetooth, AirPort, PPoE, VPN, etc.? (I'm wondering whether something like a signal delay or connection problem may factor in to the behavior...)
Have you tried logging in to a temporary, "test" user account (with administrative privileges) in an effort to determine whether the problem is restriced to your user account or system-wide? This and other general troubleshooting tactics are described in KnowledgeBase Article Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue.
When you say "I get the prompt that tells me that it's unexpectedly quit" —are we talking about the application actually "crashing" ?  If so, have you used Console to look in ~/Library/Logs/ for an Internet Connect.crash.log? This may help to identify the specific sequence that's causing the problem.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
    Hope this helps... and
    Good luck!
    Dean

  • Windows APP without real internet connection stops working in time

Windows APP without real internet connection stops working in time
    Hello all,
I am trying to get the following to work. We have an intranet page which users need to connect to, to operate some machines. This is done through an windows 8.1 Tablet with an assigned KIOSK mode app (Kios SP Browser).
This works great as the assigned app is the only thing the user can run and we don't have to really harden the device. One drawback in using the assigned apps is that it needs to be an New App (as Microsoft call it)
The app is installed on an reference machine which runs in workgroup mode (no domain connection is needed on the devices) and after the reference machine is installed it is imaged with the use of Acronis. After deployment the tablet has no connection to
internet and the intranet page is wireless put available to the tablets. As a side note, the tablet operates with local accounts and the app is installed using an corporate hotmail account we created just for this purpose.
I now deployed the image over 20 different tablet devices and this worked great until recently a few devices start to complain it needs to connect to the windows shop before the app can be started. As the devices don't have internet access this can't be
done and the tablet is rendered useless for the user.
How can i make the app available without internet connection ? and how can i be sure the app will continue to work over time without connection to the store ?

    Thanks for the reply.
I can't unblock the internet connection as the wireless network doesn't have any internet connection what so ever. The main purpose is to be able to operate the machinery and nothing else, hence the kios app which is being used to show the intranet page
which connects than to the devices.
The problem is that after imaging the app works as expected but after a few days the app stops to work ...
I found the following website over site loading an app without the needed appx files. It shows an way to capture the files during installation from the windows store.
    https://www.404techsupport.com/2014/06/installing-free-windows-8-modern-apps-without-the-windows-store/
It is a bit strange to have it this difficult to install apps without the needed store and i think that Microsoft should make this easier. I hope this works better and after a few days i will give the feedback how this handles..
If anyone knows of a better way .....

  • All of a sudden my internet connection stopped working.

All of a sudden my internet connection stopped working. It works for every other computer in the house. I have gone to other networks. I have turned on/off my computer. Nothing seems to work. When I click diagnosis connection it is not fixed. Please HELP! It always tells me that I am not connected to the internet yet I have full bars at the top.

Have you also tried restarting the router?
If that doesn't work, try creating a new "Location":
    System Preferences > Network
Select the AirPort from the left hand side
Click on the Locations combo box and select Edit Locations...
Click on + to add a new location, call it "Home" (or anything else you prefer)
    Click on Advanced
Select the AirPort tab and enter your network name
    Select TCP/IP tab.
    Configure IPv4 Using DHCP
Now click on Renew DHCP Lease.  After a few seconds you should get an IP address (probably 192.168.x.x)
    Click on Proxies tab.
Select Auto Proxy Discovery and Use Passive FTP
Click on OK and Apply, etc.
    Good luck

  • IPad Retina Problem: Wireless Internet Connection Stops Working All The Time

the wireless would all the sudden stop working.  What happen is, I'd be going from one page to another and then BOOM.  No more loading, the little circular "loading" icon never ending.
Also happens with iTunes trailers app, in general all the wifi.
    What i've already tried:
Performing a full ipad restoration (as new restoration). I dont have issues with my ipod touch 5 or my galaxy sIII or my pc's, so i assume the ipad retina is faulty?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • What happens if my internet connection stops while downloading OS X Mountain Lion ?

    Yes.
    You can "Resume" the download.

  • WRT54G Internet Connection Problem

I've seen several posts about the WRT54 series randomly dropping internet connections. I've been having this problem for the past few days - ever since I returned from a two-week trip, during which my computers, router and modem (wireless) were turned off and unplugged.
Yesterday I did a hard reset (43 seconds), and after a few hours things seemed to stabilize.
This afternoon I checked my Internet connection in Windows and found it "disabled." I clicked the "Enable" menu option, and things seem to be stable for the time being.
Don't know if this is a solution, but thought I'd pass it along.

With prolonged telephone assistance from Linksys managed to install updated firmware; but then lost all wireless connection,  wired ethernet OK.   A router replacement router was  initiated when the problem could not be solved online. Whilst waiting and by chance I found  "access restriction" tab on online Linksys router admin pages, set that to '24hrs' and 'everyday' and Wireless reappeared! Connection has been 99% since. Even after resetting  access to its default,   which was "disable" all restrictions. it's still good two weeks later.  Really curious if anyone else tries this approach..  Let me know if that works.
One guess would be that loading new firmware interferes with some common file and interrupts wireless access.  Comments?

Hi, I bough via Amazon.com the router WRT54GS. My Modem is an ambit. I followed all the instructions but no way, the internet light don't want to work and I cant go on internet. I connect a RJ54 Male cable (Belkin) from the Ambit routeur to the Linksys and a RJ45 Male ( include) from the linksys ( Port 1 ) to the computer.
    Please, I need help .

  • Linksy's WirelessG WRT54GS Internet Connection

    Hi
Just wondering if anyone can help, I purchased a linksys wireless G a couple of days ago, I currently use cable broadband, when trying to set up the wireless connection, I followed all the steps & sure enough my Intel PROset wireless & windows wireless network both pick up the connection. But when hit IE, it says it can't connect to the net!
I admit to been dense about computers, so I could be going totally wrong somewhere, so can anyone enlighten me?
here is some info that is in my Basic Setup..
    Automatic Configeration-DHCP
    Router Name: WRT54GS
    Host Name: (my internet provider??)
    Domain Name:??
    MUT: Auto
    Local IP Address: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0
    DHCP Server: Enabled
    Starting IP Address: 192.168.1.100
If anyone can help from the above mess, I'd really apreciate it...

hi...first off try to disable Intel PROset wireless utility from the computer, right click on the utility icon on the toolbar and click on turn off the radio...try connecting to the wireless n/w using windows WZC (wireless zero configuration) check whether it works or not...
also logon to router's setup page, open i.e. and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 it would ask for username and password put  "admin" (default password) as a password without any username...click on the wireless tab >> try changing channel to 11, click on the advanced wireless settings and try reducing beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304...check whether it works for you or not and let me know the results...

  • My internet connection stops after attempting to connect to the iTunes store after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

I have been unable to stay connected to my server since I have upgraded to Mountain Lion. I went to my local Apple Store and was able to download the latest software. I could not do that at home as the download would freeze. I brought my mac-pro notebook home and the same problem persists. While trying to match my music, iTunes fails to stay connected to the internet, the circle going round and round forever. Anyone else with the same or similar problem?

Same here (iPhone 5S). And a friend of mine has the same problem on his iPhone 5. I just installed the newest iOS update (7.1.2) and the problem persists. Although it seems to affect several people yet I can't find anything related to this on the web. If I really want deliberately to trigger the problem I just need to delete a song from the music app and the message will pop up for sure. I am also somewhat reluctant to do a full restore because frankly I expect the same outcome as the thread starter. So hopefully Apple will fix this soon. The main reason for me to buy a $ 800+ phone is to have a device that 'just works' but apparently that's long gone since iOS 7...

  • [Solved] Moved from location and internet connection stopped working.

Hello everyone, this is my first post in the forums and first time using arch so please bear with me. I recently bought an Asus UX51, formatted it and installed arch linux with the help of the beginner's guide. After overcoming several problems (preinstalled raid, nvidia optimus to name a few) I managed to get it running, installed a DE and was using wireless connection just fine with
    # ip link set wlp3s0 up
    # wifi-menu wlp3s0
Everything was going fine until I came for a holyday's week to my parents house and tried to connect to their wireless network to no avail. I have WAP in my house, same do they in their house (in which I'm right now).
I have been trying the past 2 days with netctl, and even the manual method described in the wiki , googled, etc. I'm already out of ideas so I decided it was time to ask for help. If it's of any use, wifi-menu scans the network properly, and # netctl status wlp3s0-interface_name returns this:
Also read somewhere in the forums to try # journalctl -b , this is what I get on the last page:
When I try #ping, I get the following after having to wait around 15 secs :
    ~$ ping google.com
    ping: unknown host google.com
I even tried booting from an USB with an arch iso, just to try getting a wired connection, mount my arch installation and download some other network manager just to see if I got any luck, but not even that worked (in my house, just by connecting the cable before booting I would automatically have internet access when booting with the iso, but it didn't work here...).
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    I got it running !
Just followed the manual guide once more, but managed to bypass some problem I had the first time I tried (you could say I was a bit lost by the command in the wiki but managed to understand it a bit more this time)
I believe the setup my parents have here is pretty messed up, other people get similar problems from time to time with the network, but I don't really understand much to mess with it so I'd rather leave it like it is.
In case it's of any use to anybody I'll leave here how everything was left in the end in my laptop.
    Used:
    wpa_passphrase foobarssid foobarpassword
    to generate:
    network={
    ssid="foobarssid"
    #psk="foobarspassword"
    psk=f5d1c49e15e679bebe385c37648d4141bc5c9297796a8a185d7bc5ac62f954e3
I copy pasted that on my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf ,which had a line at the start which seems was a leftover from the time I tried before (when I tried using wpa_supplicant it failed and complained about it in the error msg).
    After that I used
    wpa_supplicant -B -iwlp3s0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
    After that I used
    dhcpcd -A wlp3s0
That failed because it said that there already was a dhcpcd process running, I killed it, tried again and it all went fine. Tried ping and kept answering "unknown host". Tried rebooting and that's when # ping google.com  started to behave like it should. Tried browsing a bit and no problems whatsoever.
Thanks a lot for the help!

  • 3G internet connection stopped working

I have an unlocked 3GS from Vodafone here in Australia, and in general the phone has worked ok, including internet access via 3G, EDGE, and GPRS. I travel internationally frequently, and I generally turn the 3G and Data Roaming settings off to avoid the ridiculous data roaming charges. On my last trip to the US, I turned off these settings, and when I returned to Australia a few weeks later, I turned them back on, and the phone would not connect to any network (voice or data). I took the phone to the Vodafone store today, and they reset the phone, and made a new SIM card for me. The phone will now connect to Vodafone' voice network, but it still will not connect to any data network. The tech at the store suggested I upgrade the software (I had been on 3.01), which I did today, and still no joy. I can connect to a voice network, but no data. I double-checked the network settings just to make sure nothing was turned off. WiFi works ok, FWIW.
Any ideas what would cause the cellular data capability to up and fail like that? Is there a hardware failure mode that would do that? I would think if the hardware failed, it wouldn't connect to a voice network either.

If no change with a new SIM card unless the new SIM card has a problem, and after resetting network settings on your iPhone, an iPhone reset, and restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, more than likely there is a hardware problem.

  • My internet connection stopped working (I can't even get a connection with an Ethernet cable). I "accidently" let my laptop be upgraded to a later version of Firefox. How do I dump it and go back to the earlier verision which worked well?

    Enough is enough.

I've had the same problem a couple times now. Firefox seems to magically update itself anytime my computer gets unplugged and shuts down; when I restart my computer it loads a new update to firefox and voila! no internet access. Does it tell you that Firefox is configured to a server that's not accepting connections? I found what looks like a maybe promising solution here- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls - under "Windows Firewall" (which may be my problem) but if that's not it the only thing I've found to do is, using my husband's computer (which he never seems to delete install packages from) load the files for Firefox 3.6.3 onto an SD card and keep it handy. It's irritating, but it works. If you need the installer package, let me know and I'll email it to you.
