WRT54GS internet freeze

Well I hooked up 3 wired PC into the router. 2 of the PC, both Win XP, works fine and the internet does not freeze. While the 3rd PC (Wins ME), when I click Internet Explorer it logs into the internet, but if i click anything else it freezes. I can't do anything further and sometimes I can't even press the Start button on the left hand corner, i gotta restart my comp. Any suggestions?

Check the Internet Options, delete all the cookies and files from temporary internet folder, check the amount of system memory you have. If you can, go ahead and upgrade the memory. Also run scandisk and disk defragmenter on primary drive.  Also check for any updates for IE and OS.

  • Internet freezing my computer

Hi everyone, A little history. My computer starting to freeze up with in the past two weeks, where I have to manually force shut down. I can't even use explore or firefox or any of my Microsoft apps including my Anti virus. Right now,  I am in safe mode and ran my kaspersky anti virus and did not picking anything up. I used my disk cleanup and took out all the temp files that was up to 1 GB (in Safemode), and I saw more files that I have never seen before.  I am trying to go to internet explore to reset it back to defalt setting o.k. but I don't know how to do that. Right now, I am in my HP support assistant to tune up my computer, but it is just running on "Set Restore Point" I am not a computer geek, so if you are going to give me advise, please explain it like you would as a to a 10 year old (but a 10 year old are more computer savy these days).  And any other advise you can give me will be much appreciated.

New iMac with OS 10.7.2 Lion, I am experiencing frequent internet freezes and then all my network connections drop and I have to reboot the machine

  • Internet freezes while trying to print any file as PDF in Windows 7

    Hi
I have Acrobat 9 Pro and I am running it on Windows 7.
When I try to print a document off the internet and select Acrobat PDF as printer, "Save As" screen appears. The printing process freezes and I am not able to edit file name. Also the entire internet also freezes. When I call up Task Manager, this shows up as "running" however, nothing happens. The only way I can use inernet is by "End Task" when the printing closes and the internet session also closes.
This is a problem I have been encountering in last three months. Before that I was able to perform this task without any problem.
Searching for the solution in database has not yielded any solution.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

  • WRT54G v5 freezes every ~48 hours, advice?

    Greetings!
I purchased this router around summer of 2006, and it worked flawlessly without a reboot up until around the end of December. I didn't have physical access to it until early January, when I disconnected its power to rewire, and then reconnected it. The thing is, ever since then, the router seems to freeze up every 24-48 hours and requires another reboot. When I say "freeze up" I mean that connected computers can't use the internet or even the router's control panel; the router's lights still blink (although not as quickly as they do when there's activity), though.
Admittedly, my roommate has overloaded the apartment's circuit a few times, and so the router has also been through two or three "blackouts" but I wouldn't imagine that to cause a huge issue, right?
The firmware version that the router was originally at when the freezes occured was 1.01.0 (router shipped with 1.00.9). I upgraded to 1.01.1, but the problem remains. I hard-reset the router and redid my settings manually, but the issue remains. I'm going to try reverting back to 1.00.9, but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar.
One Windows XP system is hard-wired to the router, and maybe one or two other Win XP PCs connect through the wireless. I've tried disabling the wireless to see if it was the culprit, and the freezing issue still occurred. It seems like it has to be a software problem, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe there's a hardware issue here.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'd greatly appreciate it.

The router is indeed connected to a surge protector, but it's the same surge protector and the same plug that it worked flawlessly with for the first few months. However, I will give it a try.
I've reverted to 1.00.9 firmware and the router survived 48 hours without locking up. However, web browsing was very slow and emails wouldn't send near the end of that time frame, so I had to do a soft restart on the router (fixed the problem). If it happens again, I will manually redo all of the configurations on this firmware version and see if it fixes it completely. That the router lasted so long without completely shutting down net access seems promising to me, but perhaps it was just random. I'll post back with the results of the firmware test as well as the changing where it is plugged in to, if the firmware fix doesn't seem to work.

  • WRT54GS - Internet Connection Stopping/Hanging

    Hi,
Just got the WRT54GS, had it about a week.
Whenever I hit an internet site, it will load about 80% of it and stop or hang. If i refresh the page it will finish downloading it (most of the time).
This is happening to all computers accessing the router, both wireless and the one that is wired (Ethernet) in.
I know it's not the internet connection itself, as I can use it without going through the router without any issues.
I've upgraded the firmware and played with a few of the settings without resolution.
Any ideas would be helpful as this is getting fairly annoying especially as getting a Linksys was supposed to solve all my networking issues.
    My info:
    Router - WRT54GS v7
    Firmware- 7.50.5
    Connection - DSL
Computers - 6 total (although normally 3 at the most at a time) all running XP sp3.
    Encryption - WEP 128
Wireless Network Mode - G (all computers are G compliant)
    Thank you for your time.
    Troy

    Thank you for your reposes.
Tried the above suggestions to no real success.
My latest shot is that i've changed the encryption key to WPA-Personal.
It goes great guns for 2 minutes ... then sits for about 20 seconds and then goes great guns for 2 minutes.
    Very frustrating.
Is it possible that I got a bad router to begin with? Is there really any way to tell?
Is it possible that one of my neighbors have a router that interferes with mine? What would cause the 2 minutes on 20 seconds off?
    Thoughts?
    Thank you

  • Internet freezes up

I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem.
This all started about two months ago and it has progressively gotten worse. Whether I am using Internet Explorer 8.0 or Firefox 5.0.1 my internet connection will suddenly freeze up. I am able to sometimes close the windows, but when using Firefox, I cannot re-open it unless I restart the computer because it keeps coming with "Firefox is already running error". Also whether it is IE8 or Firefox, there are 3 or 4 processes still running after it freezes up and I close out the window.
So far, I have disabled all add-ons to both IE8 and Firefox. I thought I might have a worm, trojan or virus, so I ran several malware utilites: Malware Bytes, Super Anti-spyware, IObit Malware. I have run NAV. I have also run Glary Utilites and CCleaner. I did all of this in the Safe Mode, but nothing was found.
I have unistalled all of the programs that I recently installed, but to no avail. This happens whether I am using the direct connection to my router (NETGEAR) from my desktop or from my laptop through the wireless protion of my router.
There is no rhyme or reason when this happens. Sometimes it is after being on the internet for 1 minute or ten minutes.
I can't tell whether it is my router or the DSL connection because I have had Verizon for so long that my installation disks don't work with XP and I when I try to bypass my router, I can never acquire a network address, I am assuming it is because that I don't have the installation disks. I am also using the Westell modem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is going to be an issue with your pc and its handling of your browser(s), not the network. If it's failing to end the processes properly then you need to be looking at why that is.

  • Airport Extreme, Linksys Router WRT54G: Internet is Impossibly Slow

I have a problem regarding wireless internet activity on my Powerbook G4. In my house, I have a Linksys Router (WRT54G) that has worked fine for other laptops (including an iBook running Airport Extreme, a Powerbook G4 running Airport, and an iMac running Airport) for many years. When I got a refurbished Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz with Airport Extreme, I found that while Airport could be configured to recognize the wireless network (with a WEP 40/128-bit encrypted key), it barely works on the computer. The signal strength is strong (the laptop is hooked up right above the Linksys router), but the Internet barely works at all. Surfing to webpages takes 10-20-30 sec to work, and often the connection seems to drop off all together. Something is clearly wrong because despite the fact that this is my fastest computer with the fastest wireless capability, it runs at a slower pace than any computer I have ever used on the web.
I was wondering if anyone has had similar problems with getting Wireless Extreme on Powerbook G4s to work with this particular (and older) model of Linksys wireless browser (WRT54G). Some Internet sleuthing led me to believe that perhaps the router firmware needs to be updated or something like that, but I haven't really found any definitive answers. If there is anything wrong on the laptop-OS-side, I have no idea. I would appreciate any pointers that you can provide!
    Thank you to all,
    Matthew

    Hi all,
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, my problems persist.
I was able to reset my router and to configure it again on the web-based router configuration.
As per your suggestion, I tried switching the Wireless Network Mode to "G-only." Not only did this kick off my older computers on the network (an old iMac and an older Powerbook G4, both with normal airport), but it did not fix the speed problems on the new Powerbook G4/with Airport Extreme. I am back on the mixed setting now in order to get most of the computers on the network back to their old working states...
I also tried disabling my WEP encrypted key but found that this did not speed anything up at all.
I have upgraded my firmware from its previous version, v 1.41.2 (very old!), to the latest from the Linksys website: v 4.30.5. This has not helped at all either.
Is it possible that there is any setting on the Powerbook/Airport Extreme itself that is causing these problems?
Thank you all again for your help,

  • Keypad and Internet Freeze on eBay page, shut Wifi needed to restore Safari

(this is a repost from the iPhone 4 Category http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2491425&tstart=15 ; I think Internet and Networking looks like a better category. sorry I didn't notice this category first)
This is totally repeatable (several days). I'm assuming there is just some combination of things going on on this particular page, but don't know what that might be so don't know what to test.
    Here's the scenario -
    WiFi is ON
    Open Safari, login to eBay
Go To My eBay Summary Page (if it matters, I do have a few Active Listings displayed on this page, and some Watched Items; just want to include any details that might be relevant)
At top of the page is eBay search menu - as soon as I go there, my iphone keypad displays as it should
I touch the first letter for my search text and that letter is enlarged and the page totally freezes.
I can't get out of this any way other than to go to settings and shut down WiFi, which closes Safari (probably just because I don't have strong enough signal to be online unless using WiFi).
When I reopen Safari, I am logged out of eBay.
I'm assuming this is an iPhone issue, not an eBay one, since I have no problem doing this common function on my computer.
    Any suggestions? It's so weird!

just one bump in case someone new comes by who knows something about this; I have an appointment at Genius Bar tomorrow to get help on it.

  • A505-S6980 Internet Freeze

We recently purchased an A505-S6980 with Windows 7 home premium edition.  It worked great for several  weeks but recently (since ~ Jan 24, 2010) has been performing poorly when using the internet.  It doesn't matter if the browser is Explorer or Firefox.  Initially the browser will work fine then becomes incredibly slow and eventually everything locks up (including task manager) and requires a power down to log out.  The system works OK in safe mode with networking.  The only software installed since purchase was Windows Office, PC Tools Spyware Doctor, iTunes, and Mozilla Firefox.  All these programs were installed well before the onset of our freezing problems.  Any suggestions on how to diagnose the problem (or fix it)?
    Rhonda

When you wrote "It works ok in safe mode", do you mean that you booted up Windows 7
in Safe Mode, or that you used Firefox and EI8 in their Safe Mode option.
Now depending on your response from above you can go many ways.
If you started the web browser in safe mode then it means that both or one of
the software got corrupted and needs to be reinstall, or it means that the add-ons
used in one affects the performance that it makes it not respond. But that wouldn't
be the case with IE8 because it doesn't really have any add-ons that would make  it act
that way, unless one of it vulnerabilities is being exploited and makes its act like that.
If the add-ons are the problems on Firefox, then you can disable all, and the enable one by one,
or three or any number at a time and see which one causes the problem, and remove it.
Also try and delete the cookies and all data store on both browsers, see if that works.
You can try older versions of the browsers and see if that works better.
Have you scanned your hard drive for malware or viruses?
Also try Safari, the PC version, of the web browser, see if that also goes down or it works fine.
Hope this helps a little bit.
