WRT54GS is always connected despite using "connect on demand"

Hi,
I use a PPPOE connection with the "connect on demand" option as I have a volume tarif. When I start my PC an then connect to the router via windows explorer, the internet connection is already connected although I explicitly disconnect when I finish. In addition the disconnect on idle does not seem to work (2 minutes). What can I do to change this?
The router is V5.1 with firmware 1.50.5.
Thanks, Zebedee

Hi Dah.veed
Thanks for your response.  The models I have are
Airport Express: A1264 (less than a month old)
Time Capsule: A1355 (1 year old)
Both are capable of 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz.
As you suggested, I've set the AE to create a 5GHz network, but as the TC is extending the network it doesn't allow me to limit the extenstion to 2.4GHz only.  It seems to just extends whatever network the AE has created ... see screen shot:
Any other suggestions??

    Please locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. Hard to see.....gray lettering on a white background....so you may likely need a magnifying glass and good lighting to see it.
    The model number starts with a "A" followed by four numbers. If you see A1084 or A1088, unfortunately AirPort Utility 6.x in Mavericks OS X (10.9.4) does not support these older models. However, you can still administer these models if you have a Mac.....or can borrow one for a few minutes....using Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.

  • ANSI_WARNINGS is always set on new connections, despite the defaults

    Hi, we need ANSI_WARNINGS off in order to truncate string columns.
    The problem is that the ANSI_WARNINGS is always set on new connections. I checked that it is disabled in sys.configurations "user options" (value is 0). I double checked in SSMS DB properties and server connection properties.
    Every time we create a new connection (even restarting SSMS and/or sql server) the ANSI_WARNING is ON again. We checked by running SELECT 8&@@OPTION and DBCC USEROPTIONS
    -- This works, but I can't do it on every connection!
    SET ANSI_WARNINGS OFF
    Sql Server info:
    Enterprise Edition 64-Bit
    Product Version 11.0.5058.0 SP2

    Hi, we need ANSI_WARNINGS off in order to truncate string columns.
    No, you don't. ANSI_WARNINGS OFF is a legacy setting and should not be used with new development. There are several features in SQL Server that does not work when this setting is off:
    * Queries to linked servers.
    * Indexed views.
    * Indexed computed columns.
    * Filtered indexes.
    * XML type methods and XQuery
    And there are probably more.
    As Tom says, take the bull by the horn and fix the code that causes truncation errors.
    The only way with a .NET client to turn off ANSI_WARNINGS is to submit the command SET ANSI_WARNINGS OFF every time you connect.

  • How to set up WRT54GS so the wired and wireless connections both work?

    I have a DSL line in to a Motorola modem.
    The modem is connected to the WRT54GS with an ethernet cable.
    When I connect my computers directly into the WRT54GS with an ethernet cable (there are four connection spots at the back of the box), I cannot go to the internet.  I have 3 computers plugged in, but none of them connect via Ethernet..
    Is there a setting on the router so that I can use the router for both wired and wireless connectivity?
    Added info: I tried to connect directly from the computer to the modem, but again, got no connectivity.  When I "chatted" with ATT, they told me the modem is set to "bridge", and that I could connect only one device.  I don't want to change this setting because I want to use the router for the wireless capability.  Besides which, I have more than one computer to connect to the internet.
    How come I cannot just plug in and go?
    My firmware version is v2.07.1.
    I don't know how to find out what hardware version I have.
    Other info is "DirectEthernet Connection, Speed: 100.0 Mbps, Signal Strength: Excellent, Status: Connected"
    Also "1394 Connection 3, Speed: 400.0 Mbps, Status: Connected"
    I don't know what that's for, but thought it might prove useful to those of you who are knowledgeable about such things.
    Wireless is ok, but if I'm sitting right next to the router, I'd like to connect with Ethernet and take advantage of the better speed, etc.
    Thanks in advance.

  • OS 10.4.6. has broken dialup connectivity when using fast user switching

    I installed OS 10.4.6. It seems to have broken dialup connectivity when using fast user switching when switching from one user to the next.
    For dialup, it is extreamly annoying that I can not resume downloading a file from were it got cut off, but now, if another user wants to check their email, my download always gets broken and has to be restarted. Dialup is slow enough with out having to start from scratch even more frequently, now.
    Also, in earlier versions of 10.2 or 10.3 (I don't remember which), I was able to switch users and maintain listening to a single users' iTunes.
    I would like to be able to switch users and not lose either my dialup network connection or the primary users currently playing iTunes songs.
    Perhaps for iTunes, one should be able to chose to mute another users' instance of iTunes, if it is currently playing.
    Mini-Mac 1.42GHz 80GB BT/AE   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    I have not tried replicating this but might be able to provide some additional information.
    We use network login accounts on our desktop computers. Fast User switching deliberately will not work for multiple network login accounts. (Remember network login accounts normally also have an associated network home directory mounted via AFP.)
    Now a bit of background about volumes and mount points under Mac OS X. Under Mac OS X, any additional drive (or more accurately 'volume') is listed under the 'Volumes' folder, remember also that Mac OS X is a Unix operating system. So just as normal for Unix, the boot drive is '/' or the root level and Volumes is a folder in it. The underlying Mac OS X software automatically 'attaches' and additional volumes as sub-folders in the 'Volumes' folder (in Unix speak these are called 'Mount Points'), if you have an external hard-disc called 'Fred' then this would be represented by the following path
    /Volumes/Fred
    If you happen to have two volumes with the same name connected at the same time then while in the Finder they may show up with the same name, in Unix they would have different names automatically assigned to keep them separate like so
    /Volumes/Fred
    /Volumes/Fred 1
    Now getting back to the Fast User switching problem and AFP volumes, when you login to a File Server volume it also is automatically added to the Volumes folder, so if we have a File Server volume called 'Shared' it would look like
    /Volumes/Shared
    With Fast User switching potentially both user accounts could be accessing the same /Volumes/Shared which means both user accounts would be talking to the server via the same File Server login, hence the possibility for one of the Fast User accounts to be using the 'wrong' permissions.

    Thanks for responding.
    When does clicking on "Connect As" happen in the process above?
    After step six? Seven?
    After the connection has failed?
    Is this the FInder window that shows the icon of the computer you want to copy the file from?
    You should see "Connect As" in the Finder near the top right of the window as shown below:

  • Does an external hard drive ALWAYS need to be connected to my mbp with retina display for Time Machine?

    Does an external hard drive ALWAYS need to be connected to my mbp (OS 10.10.1) with retina display for Time Machine? Or can it be connected once a week or whenever I want? I used to have an external drive always connected to my previous mbp, but it made moving my mbp around a bit of a hassle with it connected...

    When the backup drive is not connected, some of the free space on the internal drive will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. Local snapshots will protect you from unintended file deletions, but not from a drive failure. You should only go as long between backups as you're willing to lose data. If losing a week's worth of work is acceptable to you, then that backup frequency is OK. Otherwise, it isn't.

  • LG Monitor entering power saving mode despite thunderbolt connection

    I have a full boat 2013 rMBP connected to a LG 34UM95 though thunderbolt and it has been working flawlessly for about 4 months.  One connection from the laptop to the monitor and my external drives connected to the monitor.  It has been great.
    Until today
    For whatever reason, my rMBP isn't detecting the monitor.  It isn't showing up in preference or apple menu.  I know the thunderbolt port is working as the drives are still visible that are connected to the monitor, but I can't run dual display or clamshell mode.  I have rebooted several times, both the monitor and laptop.
    This *****.
    Any suggestions?
    The searching I have done has revealed some NVIDIA card issues causing some challenges for others, so I hope it isn't anything like that.

    Hey Cult Hero,
    Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you are having trouble with an external display. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.
    Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays - Apple Support
    No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
    When using an external display be sure to check the following:
    If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
    Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:

    Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
    Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
    If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
    Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
    If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
    You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolution
    Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
    From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
    Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
    Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Connect database using ext javascript or applescipt in indesign

    Hi,
    I need to connect oracle database using extended javascript or apple script in indesign. Can somebody help by giving any suggestion. Or is there any possibility to connect database using the two scripting methods.
    It  is really urgent.
    Thanks
    Karthik B

    ExtendScript has a Socket object prototype you can use to e.g. connect to the internet. Calling a web service would probably be more elegant than addressing the database directly. Socket is fairly low-level, though. If you need something easier, you could always try out http://extendables.org/docs/packages/http/doc/readme.html
    I seem to recall some InDesign plug-ins you could buy that allow you to connect to a database directly, but you'd have to google that yourself.

    We have problems using connection pooling in a WLS 5.1.x - Cluster. Is it
    possible to use CP in such a cluster at all ? The problem is, connections
    will be opened and never been closed. How can I configure a cluster forCP?

    I have a WLS-Cluster with 2 instances and my webApp uses connectionpooling.
    By the way I get a connection on Instance 1, Instance 2 gets a connection
    also, but never releases it.
    In my opinion, the reference to the connection in the partner-instancewill
    be lost.
    How do I have to configure my cluster to work well with that stuff ?
    Thank a lot,

    start it manually with :
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    shutdown imemdiate;
    startup;
    exit;

    Im about to go on a killing spree because I cannot figure this out. I have a desktop connected to the router. The router to the modem. I can get on the internet fine with nice speeds on the desktop. When I connect wirelessly with my laptop it is slow as hell. Wont load anything than after 2 minutes it will load it all at once. I have no idea what the heck is going on. I've changed settings and changed them back in the router config. What could possible be causing this??????

    I have exactly the same problem with my WRT54g V8 router. My Dell laptop takes forever to load web pages. My desktop "flies" when connected via ethernet but slows like the laptop when I connect wirelessly using a USB wireless adapter WUSB54G.
    When I connect to my neighbors Netgear wireless, everything is very fast. When I use my old Microsoft wireless router, things are very fast. When I go back to the Linksys, SLOW SLOW SLOW!!!!!!!
    I have updated the firmware to no avail. Changed channels and turned off all wireless security.....no change!!!
    I am running Windows XP SP2 and using Comcast cable broadband.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Bob
