WRT54GS linkage question/Netgear wireless router add-on

My house has a wired Linksys setup and my roommates and I wanna add wifi to it. Question is: Can EFAH05W EtherFast® 10/100 5-port Auto-Sensing Hub be linked up to WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster or WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router or WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband Router, so we can have wifi and have more then four 10/100 ports with wifi access for laptops?
Our current configuration: EFAH05W EtherFast® 10/100 5-port Auto-Sensing Hub + BEFSR41 EtherFast® Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch connected to BEFCMU10 Cable Modem with USB and Ethernet Connections
I figure with our current configuration, all that is needed is the WAP54G Wireless-G Access Point.
Also, I got a Netgear WGR614 v6 54 Mbps Wireless Router for free from Dell when I bought my laptop. Is there a way of connecting it to my households current configuration as a wireless access point? I tried connecting it to my cat5 plug in my room, but can't get anything to work but I do see activity on my network connection.Message Edited by DKSquall on 09-02-200601:54 AM

You can connect it this way:BEFCMU10 Cable Modem with USB and Ethernet Connections connected to  BEFSR41 EtherFast® Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch then connect your  Netgear WGR614 v6 54 Mbps Wireless Router.
Your WGR614 v6 will be the access point for the network.
You can start with that thought for your network setup.

I just want to know what is required to wirelessly access a NetFlix account using my Samsung TV & Samsung home (DVD) theatre system with a Netgear wireless router.

Like previous poster mentioned,  for the Netflix app itself, either use built in NetApp on your tv or get it via Bluray player that has that NetApp .As for connectivity, you'll need to either get an Access Point or the proprietary Wireless LAN Adapter from Samsung. I've got both and I would recommend the AP for multiple port capablity ( more than one Ethernet jack ).

No, in order to use the ethernet port of an Airport Express (AX) in this manner you need to use WDS and that is not possible with a Netgear router.

The Microsoft adapter will probably work.

  • Netgear Wireless Router WGT624 x3

Will the Wireless-G Noetbook Adapter function using a Netgear Wireless router?
    Thanks,

I figured out what to use for the 'device name' in the netgear wireless card setup.  When I entered 'Linksys', it worked!  So I when I was entering Linksys Wireless G, I was using too many characters.
Anyway, thank you for the quick response.  My Linksys Wireless G Notebook Adapter and now functioning with my 802.11g Netgear router

  • NETGEAR Wireless router question reguarding the Macbook

Im proud to say that my MacBook will be arriving this Thursday, but I was wondering.
I have a NETGEAR wireless WGT624 which is hooked up to my dads eMac and my crappy *** Windows, will it work on the MacBook with the intergrated 802.11b/g in it or do I have to by an adapter?

    Welcome to the discussions!
I use the Netgear WGR614 in my mixed network of 2 Mac and three PCs without a problem. I have it set up so that we can share the internet, files, and printers. It was not ard at all.
If that is what you want to do, take a look at the fine pages set up by iFelix and Joel Shoemaker. They have both taken the time so set up complete, easy to use pages on how to do it.

  • Netgear wireless router won't connect to my HP Pavilion via ethernet cable

I had bought the Netgear LT wireless router for my home and I cannot get my Pavilion PC to connect via the ethernet cable. All of our tablets will connect wirelessly as well as my laptop. The laptop will also connect using the ethernet cable. I had used a wireless broadband card on my PC for that last several years without a problem, now I can't seem to connect to the internet with this new tool. When I do try to connect, a pop-up screen appears with suggestions of using the connections from the past (ie. dial-up, broadband, mobil), but does not show an option for this new router.
Someone had suggest that I may need to get an updated driver for the ehternet card, and if so, how to I get said updated driver to instal over to my PC without being connected to the internet? I've tried to reconfigure and add a "new network" connection without any luck and have uninstalled the old programs pertaining to the old connection devices.
As of now, I'm having to download my business materials on my laptop, then transfer the files to the PC via thumb drives. I'm sure I'm just overlooking something rather simple, as it is usually the case for most, I imagine. Can anyone give me another alternative to fix this issue? I plan on leaving the PC connected to the router via ethernet, while using the wireless WiFi for the other devices.
    Thank you in advance!!

    Hi,
Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. This will allow others to review your issue, make suggestions and review your responses. This is usually the best way to get assistance.  Additionally, what operating system are you using?

  • IMac, Netgear wireless router & Airport express

I've recently purchase my first apple mac: a iMac G5 and would appreciate some help regarding my wireless set-up. In a nut shell...
I have netgear wireless ADSL router in one room (physically connected to a PC but that's not really relevant). The next nearest wireless 'thing' to this is my iMac. The iMac easily connected to my wireless network and works great.
In another room (nearer the iMac than the netgear router) is my airport express, which I want to stream music to from itunes on the iMac. It works, but is only just in range and the connection drops frequently (so is not suitable for playing music through).
My question really is, (without purchasing further kit - or moving the existing kit around), can the airport card in the iMac be used to extend the range of the network? (it seems to me as if the airport extreme is connecting through the netgear router that's further away rather than the iMac).
Or perhaps, is it possible for me to have the iMac simultaneously connected to 2 networks: 1 connecting it to the netgear router (and therefore the web and the windows PC), and a 2nd network just between the iMac and the airport express (to just steam music).
Any thoughts or help would be gratefully received...
    PS
So far I've dead impressed with the iMac and the software too - it's a chore to come to work and have to use a windows box!)

Dan, Welcome to the discussion area!
...can the airport card in the iMac be used to extend the range of the network?
Sorry, but no that won't work.
Or perhaps, is it possible for me to have the iMac simultaneously connected to 2 networks: 1 connecting it to the netgear router (and therefore the web and the windows PC), and a 2nd network just between the iMac and the airport express (to just steam music).
No, the iMac can not simultaneously be the client of a wireless network and act as a server on a wireless network.

  • 10.4.11 Update conflict with Netgear wireless router

I downloaded the 10.4.11 update, and now I can't access my comcast email. I can surf the internet and access everything else, but when using my Netgear wireless to connect, no email. I can connect and access it elsewhere using other wireless routers. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I hate when people do this and feel bad, but . . . I have a Netgear WPN824v2 and have not had problems with wireless connections and or retrieving mail.
I would not be surprised that the Location profile is damaged in someway since you can connect and function on other wireless networks. This type of problem I have never heard of and it kinda makes no sense. Now if you were completely locked out and couldn't surf, then I would suspect the router. But since you can surf . . .
Try making a whole new Location Profile and see what happens. And/or try to track down any differences in the connection setups for the working wireless' and see that are any differences that the OS upgrade could have changed.

  • Is is possible to use a netgear wireless router to share a cable internet connection between an airport express and a Sony BD player?

    Hi,
I have a couple of netgear wireless routers (WGR614, WPN824 v3) as well as a Belkin wireless router (F5D8233-4v3) lying around, and was wondering if it is possible to use any of these to share the internet feed from a cable modem to both an airport express and a Sony Blu-Ray Player?  I connected the WPN824 router between the cable modem and the airport express but the airport express will only give an orange light then as if it does not have internet access.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Many thanks.

What you are basically attempting to do is extend the Belkin router with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) via a wireless connection between them. This method is known as a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). Unfortunately, WDS is not a standard and router manufacturers implemented, in most part, to only work with their products ... so it will be very unlikely that you can create a WDS between your Belkin and the AX. There have been a few Belkin model that have been updated by third-party firmware that support WDS, but the models you listed are not any of them.

  • Issue with HP 3600n, NetGear Wireless Router and SUBNETS!!

    Hello All,
I want to say (admit) first off that I am a PC person. The school I work for has recently acquired some new iMacs and I have to say I am very impressed with the design, ease of use and reliability. I can't believe I am saying these things out loud! Here, however, is my dilemma and I am hoping a community with a little more experience than me can help out. I searched through these discussions already and found some useful info, but nothing to really nail it on the head. My situation may be unique, but I am not sure. Here goes:
The school building we occupy is very old. Each classroom has only ONE data drop in it. Each classroom has a few PCs and a few Macs (mostly the newer iMacs). In one classroom in particular, I am unable to print wireless-ly to a networked HP LaserJet 3600n I have setup elsewhere on the network. Here is the network breakdown:
Main network (FIOS modem to SonicPro 2040 Firewall)= 192.168.168.xx. The HP Printer has an IP address on this scope. The classrooms have a NetGear WGR16 setup to act as a switch and wireless access point. The WGR16 also distributes IPs on it's own subnet, 192.168.1.xx. The iMac connects wireless-ly to this NetGear and receives an IP of 192.168.1.xx.
The PCs in the classrooms connect directly to the NetGear Router via an Ethernet cable. The PCs can see the printer, the firewall and get out to the internet with no problems. They can print with no issues. The iMac, however, can get out to the internet but cannot see the HP printer on the other scope. I know how to add a printer in Windows directly via an IP address, but trying that with the Mac doesn't get me anywhere, probably because I am not doing something correctly. I can get the Mac to print to the HP printer's IP directly but it just sends garbled text to the printer and then shoots out 100 blank pages (lol).
The Mac, HOWEVER, can print with no problem wireless-ly to another networked printer I have elsewhere on another scope (it's a Lexmark C532n).
I am thinking the issue has more to do with the HP printer than anything else but my questions are:
    1. What is the best way to have Macs recognize printers that are on different subnets if the built in features of Mac OSX aren't "seeing" the printer?
    2. Are there any specific issues with the NetGear Router or HP Printer that I should know about and address to solve this issue?
    3. We are a school on a limited budget so purchasing any additional hardware is not likely.
I appreciate anyone who has read this entire rambling discussion and certainly appreciate any help in moving things in the right direction. Please let me know if I need to clarify anything I have said here.
    Thanks much!!

I just had the same problem with my MacBook Pro using 10.5.5 After trying a number of things, the following worked. (not sure what specifically ... just did this combination)
    1. Had the Apple store Genius Bar folks install the latest HP drivers.
    2. Restart computer
    3. Restart the HP Color LaserJet 3600
    4. Connected the HP printer and MacBook Pro directly into a switch, so the wireless was not an issue (both machines had IP addresses set and computer's was set to DHCP with manual IP).
    5. Instead of using the System Preference printing and fax tool, I started Text Edit, typed something and said "print".
Print window came up and said "no printer selected"
    6. I clicked on the drop down so it would look for printers.
    7. It found the HP Color LaserJet 3600.
    8. I clicked on the name of the printer and the computer went out and found the driver
    9. I clicked on "Add" and it added the printer.
    10. I tried a couple of test prints in different programs.
    11. I disconnected the hard wired ethernet cables and set the computer to be on the wireless.
    12. I printed a few more test prints in various programs.
I had previously tried selecting the printer and drivers through the System Preferences to no avail, but doing it this way worked.
    Blessings

  • Hp Officejet 6110 & Netgear wireless router

I picked up a Netgear 54 mbps WGPS606 wireless print server yesterday to handle the many mixed computers in my household. I want everything to print to my HP Officejet 6110. So far, my MacBook Pro (10.5.4) had no problem, neither did my wife's laptop with Vista, or my son's desktop with Vista 64. However, I have an older MAC (466 MHz PowerPC G4) running 10.4.11 that is having problems. Previously, the G4 was using the OfficeJet via USB cable. I go into the system preferences, choose print/fax, under printing click +, select LPD, add the ip address (the number is good, it works with the other 3 computers!) add L2 for the queue, but when I go to choose the printer under "print using" , the office jet 6110 does not appear as an option. Auto select just defaults to "Generic Postscript printer" (which does not work). I called Netgear support, and they said to contact Apple so they could show me how to open to the port #'s for the specific ip address.......I'm lost on that one! Any help would be appreciated!

I think it's rather that you need to update the Gimp-Print drivers (on 10.4.x) to the latest (now called Gutenprint):

  • Netgear wireless router

There are several separate issues that might be involved.
The initial time to connect to a website happens because of the DNS, which translates the literal name of the site into a real IP address.
Then there is your actual internet speed.
And lastly there is your local speed.
You can verify your local speed easily by running Network Utility.app and selecting your Network Interface and seeing the Link Speed.
You can verify your internet speed by using the following website:
    http://www.speedtest.net/
Finally you can check your DNS by opening the Network Preference Pane and selecting DNS.
Some DNS are provided automatically by your ISP or you can use your own openDNS servers as shown here:

  • WDS and a netgear wireless router

    Hi all.
I have searched for information but had no luck, I do hope that you can help.
I am trying to get an internet connection from the ethernet port on my express unit. I have followed the apple instructions found elsewhere on here and kindly posted by Duane. However, as I do not have an apple main base station I could not follow them.
My question is, can I do this with a netgear router and if so, how?
Thanks in advance for any help.

silverflux, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sorry, but since the Netgear device is not compatible with Apple's WDS, this will not work.

  • Macbook Pro won't operate with Netgear wireless router

In my setup, the macbook pro's physical IP address has to be configured in my router and that seems to be entered OK. However, the macbook won't work wirelessly via the router. The router uses 128bit hex WEP key and the macbook at first seems to accept the key even though it fails to function. When I go back to check the settings however, it seems the macbook is requiring a WEP password, not a key. Could this be the cause of my problem? How can I sort out this problem please? TIA .... Greg

First try with out a password. Then try a 10 digit WEP key.

if you are just going to be using the wrtu54g as a phone adapter then you can connect that to the wrt54g with no problems, you may need to forward some ports on the router as well.
the best recommnedation is to just repalce the main router for the mean time and the wrtu54g function almost the same way. that way you would not have too may device plugged in.
