WRT54GS:Needs Resetting every day to work

There is no Version on the unit but when using the browser it says: V.4.70.6 (5/26/2005). It looks like there is another version 4.20.7 with a later date but I cant find it? Does anyone have suggestions on what I should do???? Thanks so much... Skip

Hi huisking,
Well i wont suggest you to follow it blindly. Just try locating hardware version number one more time carefully.
When you go to www.linksys.com/download and type model number of router. And go to the downloads for your router.
It will show you how to locate version number of your router.
Once you get it, then you can check the latest firmware and update it.

  • My password needs resetting every 2-3 days

I am going crazy with my Apple account. When I try to purchase apps, music, anything from the store I and asked to enter my Apple ID and password as usual. However, I get the message saying that either the Apple ID or password is incorrect. I know it isn't. I then have to reset it and it works for another couple of days and then the same story. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I am wondering if someone is trying to hack my account, but then if anything was suspended by Apple, surely my iPhone would lose its ability to send and recive via MobileMe as the passwords seem linked???

Thanks for the tip. I do have an Apple TV and have recently changed my Apple ID password but haven't yet updated it on the Apple TV. I suppose the Apple TV tries to communicate with Apple and tries to use whatever password it has stored and gets rejected.
I'll monitor this but I'm hopeful it's the solution. If so, I think the Apple TV should be able to show an error message that the password stored is incorrect and not bring down the Apple account!
    Thanks again

  • WRT350N - I have to reset every day

Guys, first of all I´m far from an expert on this...
so let me tell you my problem.. probably will be a pretty simple one for you. I have at home a WRT350N, witch I´m used with my desktop computer using a utp cable and a regular wifi N with my notebook.
The issue is this, every day I go to work, left my desktop computer online using utorrent, and when I come back from the office I see that the utorrent is still downloading.. but if I want to use explorer or firefox I can´t... so, I have to reset the router, wait a minute to get connected again (I have a adsl connection with a modem) and then I can surf on the web.
I think this is strange, since I don´t loose the complete connection but only the webtraffic...
do you have any idea what could be happening? thanks in advance !!!!

You can try to Upgrade the Firmware on the Router and reset and re-configure it...
Download the Firmware from here , after downloading the firmwar follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: -
Launch a web browser on your computer, and enter the Router’s default IP address, 192.168.1.1, in the Address field. Then, press Enter Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...To upgrade the firmware, click on the Administration tab and then click the Upgrade Firmware sub-tab.  Click the Browse button and select the .bin firmware file. Finally, click the Upgrade button and follow the on-screen instructions.Once done reset and re-configure the router.Check if this helps...

  • Wrt54g needs reset 2-3 times a day. (version 8)

okay, I am frustrated to no end. I have called tech support and they tell me it is my ISP. I call my ISP and they tell me it is my router...
I have my wrt54g hooked up to my 1.5/758k dsl. I can connect my dsl modem directly to one PC and it works beautifully. When I place the router in use and start using both my computers, I enter a world of frustration and anger.
    Here are some more deatils:
My connection: Static IP, pppoe, 1.5(down), 768 (up)
my network: 2 computers, one wired, one wireless (laptop), ssid broadcast disabled, 128bit encryption.
problems: constantly lose connection, sometimes reset works, sometimes I have to do a hard reset (reset button) and re-configure router. I have tried disabling wireless and ran a cable to my laptop but the problem still exists. Tech support suggested one of my computers had a virus... I ran scans on both computers with AVG (no virus) also ran spybot, spysweeper, adaware, pestpatrol, avg-as + trendmicro (NOTHING FOUND!!!)
I tried to take this heap of worthless plastic back to bestbuy but I did not have the box or receipt and they could not look up my past purchase made on a gift card (!!!!!!)
someone please help before I take extreme measures and smash this router with a sledge hammer!!!!

Are you using any peer-to-peer (P2P) software?  This is known to cause router slow downs and disconnections.  Go into the P2P software and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.
You need to do a few tests on your system, to try to isolate your problem:
    1)  Turn off the laptop.  If you have the laptop wired to your router, disconnect this wire.  Wire only your wired computer to the router  ---  does this give you a properly working Internet connection, without disconnections?
    2)  Turn off your wired computer, and disconnect the ethernet wire that connects it to the router.  Next, wire only the laptop to the router  --  does this give you a properly working Internet connection, without disconnections?
    3)  Disconnect the ethernet wire from the laptop.   Next connect your laptop wirelessly to the router.  Does this give you a properly working Internet connection, without disconnections?
Are you using any fixed LAN IP addresses on your system?  If so, list the addresses that you are using, and also state your DHCP server range.
Also, state your ISP and the make and model of your modem.
Also, has your router ever worked correctly, or is this a new setup?

  • Ipod need reseting every 3-4hrs

I got my IPOD 3 months ago. After sitting for 3-4 hrs, sometimes more, it wont turn on and requires me to reset it. I reset that baby more than 3 times a day.
I have done a software update, factory reset and all that jazz.
Sent it to Apple a week ago and they sent it back saying no problem!! :O
Well, its still doing the same thing...Is this typical of 5th generation Ipods? If it is, then I dont want it...
    IPOD VIDEO   Windows XP   30GB

The 1G iPod can only go as high as iOS 3.1.3. As you know, there are few apps compatible with your iPod. If you want the app you need a newer model iPod. You want 3G or later since a 2G can only go to 4.2.1

  • I need to reset my time capsule/airport every day - time capsule has green light but I don't see any wifi signal on my mac and other computers.

as many of you do, I use time capsule as airport, too...
It worked fine for 6 months or so after I bought the new time capsule. (I bought it in September 2012.)
Since the beginning of this year, I had to reset, and power off and plug it in almost every week, then now I need to reset and power off and back on again every day...
When I first set up the time capsule, I followed the instruction with the manual.
But, now I am so lost and don't want to reset every day for wifi connection.
Anyone has problem like me or knows how to solve this issue?
    Please help..
I have MacBook Pro OS X 10.8.4 & my roommates have PCs. (just in case if it helps...)

For PC it is important the wireless has names that are compatible.. short.. like 10 characters.. but 2-20 is fine. no spaces.. and pure alphanumeric.
Use WPA2 personal only.. with pure alphanumeric password .. again 10-20 characters should be fine.
The latest firmware is a dud. Go back to 7.6.1
Open the airport utility.. click on the TC and holding the option key click the actual version number..
Go back to 7.6.1 is simple.. just select it and away it will go.. ignore future requests for upgrade.. you can also tell the utility not to check weekly for updates. You will need 5.6 utility for this I think..
    So do the firmware downgrade.
Then do a factory reset and follow the name information above.. for TC name as well btw.. wireless name/s and disk share name.. which by default is data and that is fine.
    So some instructions in...
    The Factory Reset.
    Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Be Gentle! It is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on better.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed or broken off).
Power on the TC.. remember with the reset held in.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults. No files are deleted on the hard disk.. but the name of the TC may change.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.
You can also load airport utility into a pc and get access to all the settings.  Untick the box for firmware updates.. it will still bug you occasionally.. regardless of the setting.. just ignore it..
You might still need to do the occasional reboot of the TC as well.

  • WRT54G-Need to reconnect every day / firmware question

So each day my router stops connecting to the internet. I go through the same troubleshooting wizard, and each time all I do is unplug and plug back in the router as per it's directions. While this works, I don't want to do it every day. I'm trying to download the firmware for it, but I guess I'm not used to downloading firmware for things because the download is trying to run on a flash player on my computer >. I thought they were supposed to be executables? T.I.A. all.

Well, I updated the firmware, but still it has reset again today. The usual message I get when I open Easylink Advisor is "Different Network Detected". It can't connect to the internet, and I need to setup my network again, detecting my router, entering Network Name and unplugging the power so it will find it again. This computer doesn't connect to it wirelessly, it's a direct connection, and none of the cords and cables are ever touched, all of them are always plugged in. Nothing is being done wrong, it connects fine until one point during the day then it just stops and I need to go through the setup again. Anybody recognize the problem? Thanks.

  • Showing. I RESET. Works, but doing this every day...does not seem right. What am I doing wrong?.

Classic iPod in Dock, suddenly stops playing. Fully charged, blue play button showing. I RESET. Works, but doing this every day...does not seem right. What am I doing wrong?

No problem, sometime the iPod need a Reset to clear the overflowing cache.
So it's good to Reset once a week or after you recharge it.

  • Hub 3 needs to be restarted every day to restore s...

    Hi
Every day, our Hub 3 needs restarting to restore our speed. It has been constantly 37+ MBPS for months. Recently, both wired LAN and wireless connections have slowed to 3Mbps.
Speeds checked on BT Wholesale Speedchecker, Lan and Wifi
    All ususal checks completd
Used BT to check the following:
    Line Checked = OK
Problems in our area = 0
Used Inssider to identify wireless channel 1 as clear from interference. Speeds still drop (Both Lan and Wifi)
Reset the Hub and Hey Presto, speedy Wifi and Lan for a few hours.
Wake up in the morning, same old story, slooow infinity.
Reset the Hub and Hey Presto, speedy Wifi and Lan.
Get home from work, slow again, and around in circles we go for another week.

Make a direct connection from your PC to the modem which will eliminate the homehub. Follow this guide to do that. Use your computer as normal for a while to see what speeds you get. If the speeds do not improve you will know it is probably a faulty hub. Obviously you can not use wireless devices or other wired connections when doing this.
Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.

  • Wireless accesspoint needs to be reset every morning

We do have 2 airport extreme stations that needs to be reset every morning before users can connect to it.
We connected the airports to a UPS to see if the problem disappeared but it is still there.
One of the lights of the airport extreme is off (left)
by resetting the airport everything is back to normal.
the airports do have the latest software installed.
I do know there is a lot of interfearence in the building.
Could this be the cause or is it something else.

I think I am having the same problem. Every morning and sometimes in the middle of the day when I leave my ocmputer for a few hours I have to restart my DSL modem and my airport as well as a router i have for my VONAGE phone. Everything is working correctly and connected correctly as well. It works fine but when i leave the computer for some time I lose my internet connection. I disconnected my airport entirely and just plugged the DSL directly into my computer and there was no problem so it is for sure some conflict with my airport extreme. I have the main base station which is the Airport Extreme and a express for my stereo and then another express in the back of the house extending the range.
It was all working perfectly when i first set it up but now this just started. i have been on the phone with vonage and with SBC for the dsl and the problem is not with their hardware. I tried calling Apple but they wanted $$ to even talk to me over the phone which I thought was pretty lame.
Can anyone offer suggestions that might help me?
    thanks

  • WRT54GS Resets Every 5 Seconds?

So after a year of solid useage, my WRT54GS has encountered a serious problem.  The router seems to reset every 8 seconds.  The process looks as follows.
The Power button flashes and Internet button stays solid for the entire process
After 5 seconds, the WLAN comes on for 1 second
Then the Cisco Systems light comes on Amber for 1 second
Then Ethernet lights 1-4 flash for another second
    The process repeats indefinitely.
I can't seem to upload new firmware b I can't seem to upload new firmware ecause it is constantly resetting.  Oh, and it resets regardless of whether or not I have it connected to the internet.
Any ideas on what can be done here?

Try this procedure to reset the router to factory defaults, and see if this will give you a stable router.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • I have to reset the password of sa every day.

    hi
I have sql 2012 working OK. from last few days my 'sa' password is getting
re-set automatically. i know it is not possible but it is happening to me.
then i have to login with window authn. and reset password almost every
    day.
Even i have formatted a server and scanned with anti-virus too. Even
    though problem is there.
please help me as soon as possible.thanks

    John
    M. Mahfoud EL HOUDAIGUI is right. Sa should be disabled for the servers that work with web application  as it exposure over an internet. There is no such document that
states we need to disable that login but if you worked with web application you probably know that hackers try to capture the SA password first.....
This from SQL Server 2012 best sequrity practice document
Best practices for authentication mode and logins
Always use Windows Authentication mode if possible.
Use Mixed Mode Authentication only for legacy applications, non-Windows users, and users from untrusted domains.
Use the standard login DDL statements instead of the compatibility system procedures.
It the sa account is not going to be used, you should disable it. Change the
sa account password to a known value if you might ever need to use it. Always use a strong password for the
sa account and change the sa account password periodically.
Do not manage SQL Server by using the sa login account; assign
sysadmin privilege to a knows user or group.
Rename the sa account to a different account name to prevent attacks on the
    sa account by name.
Do not delete internal built-in logins
Use Windows Logins rather than Windows Group to control access to SQL Server and use care when using Windows Group logins to prevent group overlap for a particular user.
Use login triggers for more granular control of the login process
