WRT54gs no internet

my router has no ip address  i have logged in to it and in the status bar there is all 0's. i have also downgraded the firmware for it and have still no joy. if i plug the modem directly to the computer then i can get on the net.  the wireless side of the router is working fine with no problems.
i have tried the power cylcles aswell.
Any help

Hello na2009, I believe your wireless device is not connected to your network, the reason why it's online/working because it might be getting a wireless connection from other wireless network. Since you mentioned that you went into the web UI of your router and check the Status page and you're getting 0's here for the Internet IP then that means your router is not communicating to your modem. The router's not setup right.
What's the version of your WRT54GS? It's located underneath the device. There's a small printed sticker here and the version is beside the model number of it. Upgrade your router's firmware and get it here. How to upgrade? Click here. Reconfigure it after. Click here for Cable Internet Setup and for DSL Internet Setup.
Hope that helps.

  • Wrt54gs loses internet connection when using P2P Ares

I have a wrt54gs v5 and I've installed the latest firmware and reset back to factory then reconfigured.  Whenever Ares is started all other computers (wired or wireless) lose their inet connection.  Within 2-5 minutes of stopping Ares everything starts working again. I've checked Ares and it's set to am max of 10 connections.
I've hooked up my old befsx41 and it works fine but I need the wireless.  Both of these are talking to a befcmu10 cable modem.  I've never had problems with linksys before but from what I'm seeing on the forums the wrt54xxx doesn't seem to be of the same quality as the oldser stuff. Anyone know of any specific versions that fix this?
(Mod Note: Edited for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

Since your BEF works with P2P, why don't you simply convert your WRT into a WAP (wireless access point).  This way you will use the wireless of the WRT, while using the BEF to handle all the routing chores.
To do this, setup the BEF as your primary router.
Then wire one computer to port 1 (not the Internet port) on the WRT.  (Note:  Disconnect everything else from the WRT at this time.)
Then in the WRT do the following:
    Turn off the DHCP server.
Set the "Local IP address" to 192.168.1.2  (assuming no other device on your network is using this fixed LAN IP address, and assuming the BEF is set to use the 192.168.1.x  address space.)
Save your settings.  Power down the WRT.
Next, connect any numbered port on the WRT to any numbered port on the BEF.  Do not connect anything to the Internet port on the WRT.
The BEF will control your router settings (DHCP server, port forwarding, etc.)
The WRT will control your wireless settings.
Please let me know whether this setup allows your P2P to work properly.

  • WRT54G Router - Internet connection issues using the Ipod touch

Ok, first - here is my setup. I've got the router hooked into the modem, with the desktop computer hooked directly into the router.  I've got my laptop running off wireless internet, and I've got an ethernet cable connecting through my laptop to an xbox for xbox live connection.  I recently just got an iPod touch, and I've come to realize that whenever I'm on the iPod, it messes with the internet on the desktop computer and on the xbox, but not the laptop really.. it makes the internet really slow, or sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially on the xbox.  Is there anything I can change to make these all work at the same time?  Or is this too many connections or what? Please help. thanx.
(running windows vista home premium, WRT54G router, pretty much beginner status, though I can follow directions easily : ] )
Also, the internet always works on the ipod, it seems as though the ipod is 'taking over' the internet.. it doesn't lose it while in the area, yet the other computers and xbox does at times..

You might be facing the problem, because the Ipod and your Desktop computer must be having the same IP address thats the reason whenever your IPod is connected to your Network, your Desktop must be getting disconnected. Check the IP address of your IPOD and of your Desktop Computer.
First thing which you need to check, if the Physical connections are done properly. Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Linksys Router and then Connect the computer to the LAN Port No.1. On your Desktop computer login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Status tab and check "Internet IP address"
If required you can Re-Set your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from the scratch.

  • WRT54G no internet default gateway

My WRT54G was working fine until my TiVo couldn't find my router anymore.  I got the message "Unable to locate gateway".  I logged onto 192.168.1.1 and my internet default gateway was 0.0.0.0.  I have reset the router many times, but the gateway address still doesn't come up.

The Internet Ip address depends on the Service Provider you are getting ....
So if you are using Cable Connection try this ...
Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the WAN Ip address .....

  • WRT54GS Blocking Internet Access

    Hi,
I have a WRT54GS router that constantly blocks the internet access.  Any computer (Mac or PC) is able to access the wireless network, however, no internet signal is passed through the router.  I know the internet signal works because you can connect directly to the cabel modem and the internet works fine.  When the router is connected to the modem the internet light on the front of the router blinks (as if there were data being transmitted), but still no internet access availabe.
I have tried unplugging and fully restarting both the modem and the router in every order and combination possible with no success.  The only way I can solve this problem is to leave both the modem and the router unplugged for 24 hours and then plug them both back in.  This problem/blockage only seems to occur when the router has been inactive for 2 or more days (when I leave out of town or something).
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jordan

    Start with restting your router...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • WRT54GS losing Internet link

    Hello,
I got a linksys wireless network since a few years now and never got ay issue with it. On Saturday though, I started loosing my Internet Connection. By releasing the DHCP and renewing it, I can get Internet back for 20-30 minutes or so.
Here's what I tried so far:
    - Contacted my ISP, my connection is perfect, no lost packets, anything
    - Network works fine, file sharing is slow (as mentionned here) but it works nonetheless
    - Upgraded the lastest firmware yesterday morning
    - Rebooted the Router
    - Hard Rebooted the Router
    - Reset many times (more than 1 minute to release static)
    - Changed the channel
Nothing worked. The Internet light is flashing like crazy on the router, like it was spamming or something.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

It sounds like your modem and the wireless router both are loosing communication with each other...
    Kindly state your ISP...
Kindly state the model number of your modem(not the wrt54gs)...
Kindly state the IP Address information when connected to the modem and when connected to the router...

  • Bizarre WRT54G, DDNS, internet connectivity problem

The other day, we lost power at home (my cable modem and router are not on a UPS - they will be shortly). The problems started soon after that (it can't be a coincidence, but I'm stumped as to how they are related). After everything powered up, we could no longer connect to the internet from any machine on the network. When I checked the WRT54G however, I found that it was connected to the outside world and had a valid IP from my ISP. Poking around from outside my network (at work, for example) showed me that if I try to connect to my web server, I instead am routed to the router setup page (I have remote config turned off and port forwarding on, and it has worked flawlessly in the past).
Further investigation showed that my DDNS service (TZO.com) was not working (the error message is "Connect to server fail"). I double-checked with TZO and they do not see an issue on their side.
Any ideas for further investigation? I'm stumped at this point. I'd almost say the power problem fried the router, but if it did, it seems to be an awfully selective frying. Thanks in advance, and please let me know if there's additional information needed to help.
    My setup:
Time Warner Roadrunner cable modem (not sure of the type/model)
    Linksys WRT54G router, firmware 4.21.1
    TZO.com DDNS service
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!

  • Installing WRT54G - "No internet Connection" message

I have a 2wire Gateway and AT&T high speed internet. Just got a WRT54G, trying to do the setup.
Connecting my gateway to my PC, using either of my two network cables, the internet works just fine. Connecting gateway to WRT54G to PC, following the installation software, installation fails with "No internet connection" - and it's right, there is no internet connection - I had to plug the network cable directly from the gateway to the PC again to type this.
When I connect gateway-WRT54G-PC, the power, WLAN, internet and 1 lights on the WRT54G are lit, so it clearly thinks there's a connection.
Does this router not work with 2wire gateways? Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Peter

If you are getting Ip - 192.168.1.69 ...change the LAN IP of the router to 192.168.2.1 .... Click save settings .... it will show "Page cannot be displayed" message .... Unplug the Power of Router & then the Modem ...
Wait for few minutes ... then plug in first Modem Power then the Router Power ....
Access the setup page of router using http://192.168.2.1 .... use same username & password you used last time .. ...
Check if you are able to go online or not ...
If not then on the router setup page ...use Internet Connection type as PPPOE .... use ISP ...... username & password ....
    Click save settings ....
Check under Status tab if it shows connected or not ... if so then you are getting valid Ip Address .....
If not then let me know the error message you are getting .....

  • WRT54G no internet connection issue

    Hi,
I've been using a WRT54G router for a few years and it's worked fine until now.  I recently installed AVG8.5 on to my computer and now the router can't find the internet connection.  I have my compture wired to it.
I hooked the mode directly up to my computer to make sure the modem wasn't the issue and it worked fine.  I checked to make sure the local settings were on autodect and the lights on the router are all lit correctly.  I have uninstalled AVG8.5 and the router still keeps saying that it cannot detect an internet connection.  I've tried reseting the router and reinstalling the software, but no dice.
I did manage to get it to broadcast its SSID, but when I tried to connect wireless it won't allow anything to connect to it.  So, I'm assuming something is blocking it on my machine.  Any advice?  Thanks!
                                  -Ashes

After resetting the router I assume the router is not properly confiured and that's the reason you have lost the Internet connection on all the computers...
You should leave the AVG8.5 un-installed and re-configure your router...

  • WRT54GS Gaming & Internet problems

Ok I have a WRT54GS router and about every 30 seconds I lose internet connection. The version of firmware is 7.50 and I also have a PCI card for my P.C so mostly its all wireless and I also have a PSP and I also lose connection to the internet.I was wonderin what can I do so I can minimize the times it loses connection and what are the things I can do under the gaming section.

If firmware is already upgrade on router ,then you can try these settings
    Channel - 01 or 11
    Beacon Interval - 75
    Fragmentation & RTS threshold -2306
For PSP try forwarding ports under "applications & gaming tab" on routers set up page .

  • WRT54G dropping internet connectivity with Clearwire modem

I recently switched ISPs from Comcast to Clearwire. I'm linking two laptops with v. 6 of a WRT54G, which I used successfully for a couple years with my comcast service. The Clearwire service is working ok, but lately every day, sometimes twice a day, my internet speed slows to a crawl and finally stops. While this degradation of connectivity occurs, my status bar on my computer shows good wireless connection at 54 mbps and I have 5 lights on the clearwire modem, indicating best signal. I can unplug the power to the router, then after 30 seconds or so when it boots back up, I'm back to full speed on the internet. This tells me (I think) that I have an issue with the router rather than my internet connection. I'm running the router in secure mode. Is this thing just getting sick and tired or do you think there is something to be tweaked here? Thanks.
    Tad

  • WRT54GS - Slow internet when hooked up

Hi all....I have a WRT54GS (seems to be a popular unit with some issues) and here is my thing:
I hooked it up about two months ago and had no problems with it. Last week, I started having slow internet connections when the router was hooked up. I ran the cable modem straight to the PC and it was fine. I just hooked up the router again and it was horribly slow. I used testmy.net to test my speeds and my download time was about 143 times faster WITHOUT the router (with speedbooster, no less). The only thing I've done is to do a firmware upgrade to the most current version and the major problems began. I checked my setting and they all seem fine.
Does anyone have any ideas? Unfortunately I did not save a copy of the configuration before upgrading. Thanks....

    Thanks for the help.
Here is what I have so far:
    1. ISP is Time Warner Cable, and I am not sure of what I was setup for, but my internet connection icon in my system tray shows 100 Mbps.
    2.  The modem doesn't have a name brand on it that I can find, but the model is 60194E-A02. Google says it is an Ambit modem.
    3.  I used testmy.net for some tests last week and here is what I got (using my laptop):
          a.  Wired to modem directly  - download speed 773 kbps, connection 6.33 Mbps; upload speed 18kbps, connection 0.1 Mbps
          b. Using router - connection was so slow it times out.
So I hooked it to my desktop PC, and ran the tests:
          a. Direct to modem:
Download Connection is:: 7155 Kbps about 7.16 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)
    Download Speed is:: 873 kB/s
Upload Connection is:: 162 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB)
    Upload Speed is:: 20 kB/s
         b.  Using router:
Download Connection is:: 45 Kbps about 0.05 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)
    Download Speed is:: 5 kB/s
Upload Connection is:: 17 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)
    Upload Speed is:: 2 kB/s
Only other thing I can think of is that I put the new modem beside the router. Earlier today I put the modem back where it was, about three feet away. It actually seems to have helped. Is there a true phenomenon when the units are side-by-side?
    Thanks...Rick Ferguson

  • WRT54G, no internet, internal ping and traceroute do function - DNS error?

With my laptop I have wireless (or wired, makes no difference) connection with my WRT54G-router (192.168.1.1.).
This is connected with a Motorola-cable-modem.
The laptop has an internal IP-adress, 192.168.1.102. On the laptop I have no internet-connection.
The router has an external IP-adres. Pinging from my laptop results in a time-out. Pingin direct from the router (diagnostics) goes well!!
So, what's going on? How is it possible that external devices can not resolve DNS-records and direct from within the router pinging goes OK? Connecting the laptop directly to the modem is OK, I have internet connection. My other devices, 2 internet-radios and a WII neither have internet-connection, so the problem is not related to the laptop.
No change in DNS-records. DNS-servers are automatic assigned.
Can anybody help me? Regards, Roger

    Thanks for your answer.
I've reset the router, adjusted the settings. No internet-connection, same problem.
I added the DNS-record for a open-source DNS and see, then I can surf the internet. Strange, seems that the router can't work with the DNS-records the ISP is giving to my router. Although they work fine when I connect my laptop directly to my modem.
My internetradio's also function properly now.
I still want to know what's going on. The router doesn't work as he should be, he can't work with the obtained DNS-adresses.
    Any idea what's he malfunctioning?

  • WRT54G - no internet via wireless, though connection is established

Hello, I have run out of ideas for getting my wireless to work and I need help.
I am trying to setup my WRT54G v2 router to transmit my Verizon ADSL internet connection and for my laptop to have wireless internet.
Currently, the internet works if I connect straight to the Verizon (Westell) modem to my laptop. Internet also works when I connect from the Verizon (Westell) modem to the WRT54G and connect to the laptop with a CABLE.
However, If I unlpug the direct internet connection to my laptop, and try to surf the net wirelessly then my laptop will find the wireless network, and my laptop will be connected to the wireless connection on the WRT54G, however, it will not pull up any web pages... seemingly, the router and laptop have established a connection but no information is going between them that's of use to me...
I have updated the firmware and reset the modem. I've switched the LAN IP address to 192.168.2.1. Does anyone know why my wireless connection isn't working? How do I get it so that I can get on the internet with my laptop on a wireless connection, and not just the hard line? I really am at a loss, please help.  THANK YOU!!!

If you are getting Ip - 192.168.1.X ...change the LAN Ip to 192.168.2.1 ....Power cycle for 3-4 minutes ...
    Try going online
If still not working ...use Internet Connection type as PPPOE .... Use Username & Password provided by Service Provider ....
    Click save settings....
Look for WAN IP address again under status page ....
