WRT54GS no longer recognized by EasyLink

Well, it's been a hellish two days since I purchased this product.  I've always used Linksys in the past, and was surprised, after I had setup the home network using the EasyLink software included with the router and having no difficulty assigning all of my wireless and wired systems correctly, that overnight I had lost connectivity.
Turns out it was worse than I thought - every 30-45 minutes, the router would just stop being recognized by EasyLink.  I would open up the program to diagnose the problem, and it would say "different network detected".  I would update, reset communications to the router, and all would be good for another 30-45 minutes.
I saw there was a firmware update that was available, I installed it (didn't reset the router), and it was good for about 2 hours before having to update the router again.
This morning, I spent another 30 minutes putzing around with it.  I remembered the last step to installing the firmware was a router reset (Which I didn't do before), so I did that, then power cycled the router, reconnected through EasyLink - or so I thought.
Now the wireless lights aren't on (SES light is off and button non-functional as well), and EasyLink won't even recognize the router as a Linksys/Cisco product.  The router still recognizes a connection with my PC, but I can't even access the web interface.  Awesome.  I tore out the hardware in frustration and now I have it in my car.
I am returning it.  I do not know if I just got a poor unit or not.  Contemplating getting the MIMO Netgear WPN824...
What do you think?  Is there any way to salvage the current unit?  Should I try the WRT54G instead?  Get another WRT54GS and attribute it to user error/bad luck?  Or should I abandon what I know and start working with Netgear?
PS: I have printouts I took for the technical specs and info, so if anything is needed to diagnose this, please let me know.  I would rather just keep what I bought (not a big fan of returning), but...

Beuller?  Beuller?  Bumping this thread - I have about 30-45 minutes before I hit up the store and make my decision.

  • WRT54GS No Longer Recognized by Windows

My WRT54GS is no longer detectable by Windows.  I've tried everything I can think of.  Nothing works.  The only lights that flash are Ethernet 3, 4, and Internet.  They flash randomly.  The Power light, WLAN, and Ethernet 1 and 2 no longer light up.  I've reset the router several times and still nothing.

ive had the same problem before.
I had reset it, tripple checked all settings. in the end i down powered my broadband modem then into the router,
    then on "Administration"
    then "Factory defaults"
then ticked box to yes to reset
    then onto save settings
after that down powered everything inc PC and then powered everything back up, set up router again and then it worked ok then.

  • WRT54GS V& Not Recognized By EasyLink

Hi there.  I've trawled the forums for the last hour or so but still can't seem to find a solution, so I was hoping that some of you might be able to help.
I am trying to configure a WRT54GS V7 using the CD that came with the router and the EasyConnect download from this site - but I am running into problems.
I have a cable modem which works fine when plugged directly into the computer.  However, when I follow the guide to set up the router, I get to the part where I have the internet connected to the router and the router connected to the computer.
After the wizard runs for a few minutes I get one of two messages.  When using the CD I get the "Can Not Detect Internet" message and when I run the EasyConnect utility I get the "Router Not Supported" message.
I've been trying this for a few hours now, and I just cant seem to get any further.  This is all suggesting to me that there may be a problem with the router (it's brand new by the way)?
Other info:  Dell Laptop (lattitude), Cox Cable ISP.
    Thanks!

  • My 4th Generation click wheel 40 GB iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes.

    Hi There,
The title actually says it all..
(My 4th Generation click wheel 40 GB iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes 7.4.2, although the iPod works fine.. iTunes keeps saying to reset it, but I don't see why I should)
The iPod seems to work just fine, so I'm not in a big hurry to erase all my songs audio books etc..
I am thinking that this is a problem with Macintosh iTunes version 7.4.2, from what I'm seeing, but how should I proceed?
    Many thanks for any help.
    Eric

Sounds like a dead battery. Take it into your local Apple store/Genius bar and see if there is anything they can do for you.  Another option is to send it in to a third party repair company who can replace the battery at a pretty low cost.

  • IPad no longer recognized by any computer after 4.2.1 update

    Hi,
my iPad is no longer recognized by any computer after the 4.2.1 update. It does not show up in iTunes and this even in recovery mode. When connected to charger it does not show that it would charge (but it does). The iPad is still usable except in the iPod app is says "cancelling sync" and does not show any music.
I already reinstalled iTunes, reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service, used different computers with different OS version, but it does not show up, not even in the system profiler (USB tab).
Any idea what I should do? I mean it is quite unlikely that there is a hardware issue as the problems appeared right after the 4.2.1 update (from 4.2).
    Thanks in advance

Yes I know, I already reset like 100 times. Turned off-on...
I guess a recovery could solve the problem, but how do it if the iPad does not even appear in iTunes. I guess it is somewhat stuck in "cancelling sync" and therefore will not accept an USB connection (the USB port behaves like it is deactivated).

I had the exact same thing happen and you aren't going to like the answer/solution. One day my eSATA just disappeared, the DVR no longer recognized it. I unplugged, rebooted, reset, reconnectedetc. etc. and nothing. So I thought it was a DVR issue , after working with Verizon Customer Care Verizon sent me another 7232. I connected the eSATA to the new 7232, alas still nothing, it was not recognized. Turns out it was not a DVR/FiOS issue, the eSATA went bad (after 12 stinking days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Western Digital eSATA's are junk. I contacted Western Digital and they sent me a new eSATA (if it is still under warranty they will replace it for free BUT you have to pay all shipping costs), I connected that and it works just fine (but I am holding my breath, it has been 11 days since I connect the new one).
If the eSATA is bad you need to contact that Western Digitial, NOT Verizon. If it is bad it is not a Verizon problem.
And the Verizon In Home Agent is pretty much useless, that did nothing except waste a lot of my time.

    Hello there, Blueye3355.
The following iPad Troubleshooting Assistant has some good steps to run through, to make sure you've covered all your bases:
Apple - Support - iPad - iTunes Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
If following all the steps listed there are additional options on the last step you might want to try or review the "if the issue persists" steps mentioned in the second part of:

  • IPhone no longer recognized by ITunes, and Service is not starting

    Hi
My IPhone is no longer recognized by ITunes. I already tried the steps on http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495, but had no luck, and I also tried to remove all relevant Apple software and reinstall, but this did not result in anything either.
Now, also, if I start up ITunes, it tells me, that the "Apple Mobile Device Service" is not running. Trying to start this service by hand, did not work. Following the rules on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 did not work.
I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit, my ITunes version is 9.0.3.
This is my third PC in this household this has happened (i switched the PCs after it appeared on my other PCs), and I am simply not willing to do that again.
Please, if anyone has an answer, it would be greatly appreciated.
    cheers, Roland

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2553 as a last ditch effort but if it has been recognized by computer before and you did everything in HT1923 and TS1495 then i would say like msconfig stuff or disk cleanup and such.. it would be worth it to contact apple tech support if HT1923, TS1495 and HT2553 doesn't work.

My ipod nano is no longer recognized by itunes after I installed windows 8.1.  The ipod nano still is recognized and works with a Windows 7 computer

    Hello, Pete.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when an iPod is not recognized by iTunes or the computer.
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

pod Touch 4G is no longer recognized by iTunes
Today have been the problem that my ipod touch 4G is no longer recognized by itunes. He'll appear in My Computer as a DigitalCamera etc, but not in itunes. I've already uninstalled Itunes + Ipod rebooted and then installed it to try a different USB port + different USB cables, all useless. No jailbreak.
Got it now put into DFU mode and restore to read, unfortunately it is still not recognized by my PC but only on the laptop so I must go to my mum´s Laptop and everything transferred from there again ... pity me here is displayed only when the restore Ipods "Can not restore: errorcode 21" or something like that.

I've now uninstalled the USB device driver but now my iPod listed as a "portable device" and no longer listed under Apple MobileDevice

  • IPod no longer recognized by MacBook Air

Yesterday I purchased a refurbished iPod Photo. It worked fine yesterday - I synced it with iTunes and was able to place 20g of music on it. Today I plugged it in, and it is no longer recognized by my computer, but still charges. I tried resetting both computer and iPod. I reinstalled iTunes. When I forced my iPod in to disk mode, it did not recognize that it was plugged in to my computer - instead of displaying "Do Not Disconnect" it stated "OK to Disconnect". I tried it on two different computers, and had the same issue.

  • I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac.  Any suggestions?

I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac. The drive is not listed in Disk Utility.  Any suggestions?

Is the computer in you equipment line:
    Dual Core Intel Xenon
(which is not a PowerMac but a Mac Pro) the one you are asking about, or do you have an older PowerMac?
If a Mac Pro, their forums are here:
    Mac Pro
and, as Mac Pros have a totally different architecture from the pre-2005 Macs this forum covers, you may not have the same issues that can affect the older models. If someone didn't notice your equipment line, you could get advice that doesn't apply.
If you really have a pre-2005 PowerMac, read on.
If the stubborn external is USB and does not have its own power brick (i.e., it gets power only from the computer's UBS ports--"bus powered"), it may not be getting enough power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power than when new, and the power available on any USB port is limited.
The typical workabouts to making a computer recognize an aging, bus-powered USB drive are:
Get a powered USB hub (has its own power brick
Get a "Y" USB cable: 1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
The second gets power from two USB ports on the computer and often that's enough.
Remember that the USB ports on your keyboard seldom provide enough power even for a thumb drive, so be sure to use the USB ports on the back of the computer.
