WRT54GS Not broadcasting wireless

Not broadcasting SSID
I am able to get an IP address when wired in but I cannot see my SSID being broadcast. Windows firewall is OFF, I can see my neighbors SSID but I still cannot see mine. I have tried the SES setup, the manual setup etc and I cannot get the wireless to work. I am using comcast as my ISP, I am also using Norton. WindowsXP as well. I have also updated the firmware. I can be this dumb...well maybe so.
Any help would be appreciated.

hi....the function of the beacon interval is to synchronize the wireless network periodically.....by default it is 100ms....u have in turn increased it to a 1000ms.....normally we reduce th 75ms or 50ms....since it is working for u right now , do not make any changes.....if at all it stops....then change the beacon to 75 or 50....
the IP address can remain the same at 192.168.2.1 .....it will not make any difference....the lease time has to be defined in minutes...by default it is 24 Hrs , but if u want to specify a lease time , u will have to calculate the minutes and enter that value.

  • WRT120N Not Broadcasting Wireless N

I was wondering if anyone had any input on this situation.  I have a WRT120N router, 1 computer hardwired to it, a laptop that connects wirelessy and another computer that connects wireless.  Both the laptop and the 3rd computer have wireless N network adapters, yet they are only getting wireless g signals from the router.  The laptop connects at 54Mbps and the other computer is anywhere from 2-11 Mbps at any given time.
Now I have another laptop with wireless G that I dont use as much, but I still need occasionally so I can't set the router for only wireless G.  I checked my router configuration and the network mode is set to mixed mode.  When I go onto any of the computers and view available wireless networks it lists my network but the radio type is 802.11g.  I also downloaded inSSIDER and did a scan and it also has me as a wireless G network. I changed my channel from 11 to 10 as a bunch of my neighbors were on 11(I live in an apt), but that didn't seem to make any difference.
Can anyone walk me through getting my router to broadcast in wireless N like it should be?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on the router.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet able. Download the latest firmware from Linksys website.
Open the setup page of the router. Click on Administration tab and go to Firmware upgrade sub tab. Browse the firmware file that you have already downloaded and upgrade it on the router.
After upgrading the firmware on the router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure it.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the button and wait for 10 seconds. Power cycle router and reconfigure it.
    See if that works.

  • Router Broadcasting Wireless A, not N

    Hello all,
I've had a refurbished EA2700 since a few days after Black Friday. I've had some issues with it since day one. Currently, it's not broadcasting an N signal, but instead an A signal, even though I have the 5 GHz network set to N-only, and the 2.4 GHz one to G-only. I have the latest firmware version. Why is this happening? Thanks.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate your time.
I have several laptops and smartphones plus 1 Playstation 3 hooked up to the router. All are Wireless G, except the smartphones are also N. My main laptop's wireless program shows what kinds of networks are available in the area. It displays my network as A and G currently.
I've been playing with what types of signals the router sends out because all the devices connected to the router have been picking up/dropping the signal quite frequently since I installed the router. The WRT54GS I had before the EA2700 worked flawlessly, but I decided to upgrade to an N router for my smartphone.
When I turn off the 5 GHz network, the A signal disappears from my laptop's wireless program, so you're probably right about it not being able to detect the N signal on that bandwidth. When I switch the 2.4 GHz one to mixed, it displays G and N.
Still, it's annoying when several devices, not matter how far they are from the router, pick up and drop the signal frequently. Frequently being sometimes twice a day, sometimes once every 10 minutes or so. I just hit the "repair" button on my wireless card on the laptop and it reconnects fine, but sooner or later it'll drop again.
Just ensure you set 2.4GHz to MIXED. Set a fixed channel, not auto. Check if you have the latest firmware and update if necessary. Reset the router and reconfigure.

  • WRT54G very SLOW Wireless

    All-
I hope someone can help me with this problem.  I have a WRT54G v8 router and a PC with Vista.  My ISP is Comcast, and I am paying for 12 Mbps.  When I plug my computer directly into the modem or router I get speeds usually about 6 Mbps, sometimes up to 8 or 10 Mbps.  However, when I connect to the internet through my wireless connection it is VERY SLOW.  The connection is only about 200-400 Kbps.  I have all ready spoken to one of the technicians at Linksys.  They advised me to change the following settings:
On the setup tab, Make MTU "Manual" and size 1365.
On the Wireless tab, set to Channel 11.
On the advanced wireless settings, set Beacon Interval 50 and Fragmentation Threshold and DTIM Interval to 2304.
In the Security Tab, uncheck "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" box.
I made these changes, but my connection is still very slow (380 Kbps).
    Help!
    Thanks!

As you have already made the changes on your router, and still its not working. Have you tried upgradeing the firmware of your router? If not then you can Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop.
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Now reset your router : Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Once you configure all the settings on your router, Below are the wireless settings which you can change on your router.

  • Getting my F4580 to connect to my network thats not broadcasting it's SSID

I'm an Apple Mac user, I'm trying to connect my Deskjet F4580 to connect to my network wirelessly.
I am using a Belkin Pre N1 Wireless Router, which is set not to broadcast it's SSID.
I've tried entering the SSID manually on the setup for the F4580, but it can't see it.  I do want to start broadcasting the SSID due to security issues.
How do I get the two speaking to one another.
    Thanks in advance

Broadcast your SSID.  Not broadcasting it is not a security measure.  At all.  There is freeware on the internet that can read your SSID whether you are broadcasting or not.  Read more here.
Use WPA or WPA2 (not WEP which can also be broken with freeware) encryption with a strong password and enjoy more security and less hassle than you have now.

What is the IP address you are getting on this PC? Check if you can ping to this router with its IP address (default IP: 192.168.1.1) if not then try resetting it for 1 min by pressing the reset button. Once you get the ping then you can try configuring the router.

When I used to have Windows XP I found connecting to the router simple, and reliable.  However I just got a new computer with Windows Vista, and for some reason I can't seem to install the router anymore.  I tried inserting the Linksys CD and I followed all of the directions and it goes to check the router's status it brings up a page that tells me to right click my internet connections or something and my computer still doesn't find the router but connects to Realtek or something a long those lines.  Thanks for any help.

  • UC 520 not broadcasting.

I have gone into global config mode.  Turned off/re-enabled the wireless device and it still does not broadcast.
CCA says that it is broadcasting.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

    grschinon,
Thank you for a very useful reply.
The question I have, therefore, from anyone from Nokia Support - is why this limitation has been built into the Phone's software and will it be changed?
For if the laptop (and many other devices) can connect happily to everything else (including the latest iPhone5), then the limitation is a particular decision by Nokia - and, most importantly, needs to be communicated to their customers.
For at present I can only determine that the Nokia 520 is indeed 'not fit for purpose' for the purpose it was bought and I will have to think of taking it back and changing it for a phone that is.
So, will a patch fix this issue, or will retailers have to publicise and communicate this fact to buyers so that they can make informed decisions?  An early reply would be appreciated.

  • I had a problem with my WRT54GS not connecting to my inte...

I had a problem with my WRT54GS not connecting to my internet until I cloned my old routers mac address. I was using a BEFW11S4 which was bullet proof and worked for several years until I changed to Wireless G. Upon purchasing the WRT54GS and setting up all parameters exactly like I had before I could not make any connections, wireless or otherwise until I cloned my mac address to the same address as my previous router. Apparently my ISP had that mac address registered and would not properly perform DHCP even though all other paremeters were correct. I read lots of messages here on line with issues with the WRT54GS connecting and this fixed my problem outright. If you upgrade from a previous generation router (Linksys or otherwise apparently) copy your old routers mac address and clone it to your new router and you should be able to connect. This fixed my problem after several hours and days of troubleshooting. Good Luck Karnage

As an alternative to using MAC address cloning, you can phone your ISP, tell them you have a new router, and tell them to reset their system to accept the MAC address of your new router.   This way, you won't have to remember the old MAC address, in the event that you need to reset your router to factory defaults.

  • Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID

Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID

"Hiding" the SSID will do nothing to protect you from hackers.....and anyone else who wants to see your network, since there a numerous free utilities on the Internet that will reveal your network in seconds.
On the other hand, it might keep a few honest neighbors from seeing the name of your wireless network.
iOS devices often have trouble connecting to a "hidden" network, so you may need to display the network if your iPhone, iPad, etc have trouble connecting to the network.
    Your call on this.
Assuming that you have Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks on your MacBook Pro.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the smaller window
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options at the bottom of the window
Enter a check mark in the box next to Create Hidden Network
Click Save, then click Update and allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 not finding wireless network

When I run the Wireless Setup Wizard the printer displays the names of all of my neighbor's wireless networks but it doesn't show mine.  I know it is working as my laptop is connected wirelessly right now so I can post this!  This is a new issue as the printer has connected and worked in the past.  I  have restarted the printer several times and I have left it off overnight and reset.  Still my wireless network doesn't show up as an option for it to connect with.  Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forums ehudson
I saw your post about your Officejet 8500 not showing your wireless network when you run the Wireless Setup Wizard.
My suggestion would be to first power recycle the network:
Power down the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (not touching any buttons on the router)
Plug the router back in and wait another minute and then restarting the printer and PC.
Run the Wireless Setup Wizard again
If the network is still not detected, check your router settings:
Network name and password need to have no spaces or punctuations
If using WPA2 security, switch to WPA personal
Dual broadcast Wireless b/g/n (printer will only connect to g)
Mac filter needs to be turned off
Firewall settings need to be at there default settings, or set to a lower security
    Multicasting "on"
Following ports need to be un-blocked:
    Incoming (UDP) ports : 137, 138, 161, 427
    Outgoing (TCP) ports : 137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500
I hope that helps, let me know the results!

  • How to make 2nd Airport Express to broadcast wireless signal?

Hi im absolutely lost as to what to do. Currently I have an Airport Extreme which creates my network and two Air Port Express (APX 1 and 2) configured to extend my wireless network. The issue I have is that APX 2 will not broadcast the signal it gets from APX 1 and thus none of my wireless devices can connect to APX 2 even though the green light indicator shows on all the devices and in the Airport Utillity App. However if I move APX 2 within the signal range of the AE, only then will APX 2 broadcast a signal, and allowing my devices to connect to it. I would attempt to illustrate what I mean below, with Example A - showing APX 2 NOT broadcasting a signal and Example B-  showing APX 2 broadcast a signal.
            Eg. A                                                      Eg. B
          Airport Extreme                                      Airport Extreme
            Airport X 1                                  APX1                     APX 2
            Airport X  2

The bottom line here is that the wireless signal can only be extended one time from the AirPort Extreme.....if you are trying to extend using wireless only.
Apple's "extend" feature works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. In your case, the AirPort Extreme would be the "hub" and AX1 and AX2 are located at the ends of two separate "spokes".
AX1 and AX2 communicate directly to the "hub"....not to another device at the end of another "spoke".
Another way of saying the same thing is that AX1 and AX2 must both be located closer to the AirPort Extreme than they are to each other if you want AX1 and AX2 to both "extend" the wireless signal.

  • WRT610N SSID for 5mhz not broadcasting.

I have a WRT610n v1.0 router with firmware version 1.00.03 B15 and for some reason when I set the router to N and to auto channel width it does not broadcast the SSID. On my windows xp machine it only shows the b/g SSID for the 2.4 mhz. Even when I shut off the 2.4mhz and only turn on the 5mhz it still does not broadcast the SSID for it.

If that's the exact model then that is the reason why it does not work: the adapter is not 802.11a compatible, i.e. it does not support 5 GHz. Only an adapter which supports 802.11a is able to use the 5 GHz band.
Of course your adapter will pick up the 2.4 GHz band regardless of it's mode.
Thus again: try to set the 5 GHz band to Wireless-A only and check if you can see the SSID now. With an 802.11b/g/n adapter you won't pick it up. Your adapter simply does not support the 5 GHz band...
