Could be a router problem or your Wireless Adapter...
Hard reset your router and then re-configure it...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
-Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
If you face the same problem then you need to download and update the drivers for your wireless adapter...

  • Help! Sony S560 Bluray + WRT54G router

Hello - I just bought the Sony S560 Bluray player and is connecting wirelessly (with the built-in WiFi) to my old Linksys WRT54GS router on my home network.  I used Sony's automatic setup (picking my access point using my SSID, automatic IP address/subnet, WEP 129-bit passkey, and no proxy).  The player reports the network connection to be successful - it seems to be working as it also downloaded the latest bluray software/firmware as soon as the connection was established.
Now, I am trying to set up the DLNA network to stream photos.  On my PC (connected via wire to the WRT54GS), I cannot see the bluray player anywhere under "My Network Places" (I am running XP).  For example, when I turn on one of my laptops in the house, I can see the laptop appear under "Workgroup" when it connects to the router.  But even when the Sony bluray player connect to the router, I cannot see this device anywhere on my PC.
On the player, the Network Connection diagnostic is reported successfu.  But on the Connection Server diagnostic (when it tries to find a DLNA server), the bluray player reports an error - it says it cannot find the server and suggested I check all my firewall settings.
I have gone into the router admin page and turned off the hardware firewall (no change).  I also ensured that the checkbox for uPNP devices is checked.  My DLNA server is on my desktop (via XMBC software) computer (under "Entire Network"\Microsoft Windows Network\Workgroup\Desktop").  This is the same network place that my laptops appear as well when they are connected to my home network.  My questions:
    1) Why doesn't my PC see the Blurray device, even though the internet connection to the player seems to be working?
    2) I know my Bluray player can connect to the internet - so is it really the firewall settings that is preventing the player to see my DLNA server on my PC?
    3) I've been reading that some needed to buy a "wireless gaming adapter" to stream from PS3, Xbox etc... do I have to buy this adapter to stream photos from my PC onto my Bluray player?
Any help is greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!!

Normally it is because of UPnP..As the UPnP is already enabled on the router,I would suggest you to try upgrading the router's firmware, reset the router for 30 seconds after upgrading and reconfigure the router from scratch.

  • Help w/ my Wrt54G router!

I have a WRT54G router and a PS3. When i go to test the connection the PS3 obtains the IP Address but when it gets to internet connection it says "An error occurred during communicationwith the server" "This is a DNS error" I have tried multiple numbers to try and get this connection to work but it seems impossible. When I clikc the Linksys icon on my computer desktop and it shows the 3 tabs with My Network, Actions, and, Supports, I can't seems to find the DNs settings. Where are they? If anyone has had this problem please help Thnks.

You need to access router setup page usiing 192.168.1.1 .... click on Status .... it shows DNS numbers ..... under network settings ....
Use the same DNS numbers under PS3 settings ....
    Power cycle the network .....
    See if it works ....

  • WRT54G Router Setup Help!!!

Hey guys.  I have a WRT54G router.  I have AT&T yahoo DSL and a modem that came with it.  Whats going on is that I bought a new Dell inspiron laptop computer with a 802.11g wireless card. I bought the router so I can create a wireless network.
When I connect the ethernet cable from the MODEM to my LAPTOP i can access the internet just fine when I click on internet explorer.
When I connect the router to the ethernet cable and try to setup the wireless network nothing happens and it won't finish the install from the LinkSYS CD I installed. I even tried to make it into a wired network.
(MODEM ----CABLE --ROUTER--CABLE---LAPTOP) but I couldn't setup up the internet at all either.
I click on the network connections(on my VISTAPC) and I can see the greens bars lit up on the LYNKSYS network and can't seem to connect to it.
when I take the cable from the router and put it straight into my laptop without my router the internet works just fine.  Help! Thanks
    Ernesto

hi... if you are aware of modem settings...logon to modem's setup page and select "ethernet bridged" and save the settings...connect modem >> router >> pc and logon to router's and select PPPoE under "automatic configuration DHCP" put the username and password and save the settings...click on status tab and try connecting to the PPPoE server...however if you are not aware of the modem settings...well in that case you need to get in touch with your ISP and convert the modem into the bridge mode...let me know if you have any issues will get back to you...
    thanks.

  • Help! Extremely slow Internet speed using Linksys WRT54G router

I have an eMac running OS 10.3.9 and wired to a Linksys WRT54G router using ethernet cable. I have to use this router for my work PC. I'm also using WildBlue satellite internet. The problem is, I'm getting about 1.5 Mbps on my PC, but less than 33 Kbps on my eMac. It was running faster before using dial-up. I've called WildBlue and Linksys tech support, and they can't help. Can anyone help?
By the way, my son is using his iBook on the same router, only wireless, and he's happy with the speed he's getting compared to dial-up.
    Thanks,
    Eric

1400 kbps is a lot nicer than 33 kbps, isn't it? You can possiblly tweak it a little more --- I know I've seen a MTU of 1460 mentioned --- since you can also revert back to the 1400 MTU setting you found.
(Broadband Optimizer is in one sense a nice GUI to the terminal commnads you found and used.)
One more thing to be aware of, satellite internet is subject to longer latency times than cable or DSL, due to the unavoidable geometry of bouncing data packets off a satellite in orbit. That could be an issue if you ever want to play real-time online multiplayer adventure type games. It shouldn't be an issue for being able to grab OS updates in minutes instead of hours, through. Enjoy your broadband access!

ok i need lots of help here... i have a WRT54G router and trying to hard wire a computer to it and wirelessly connect to a laptop... i have dsl internet connection... the power light is blinking constintly and when i try to setup the router the default password doesnt work already tried to reset the router and that didnt help... any thoughts> thanks

the power led blinking all the time can be caused by a corrupt firmware, or a defective power adapter,  try doing a hard reset, you may need to do it a couple of times, and then power down both the modem and router.
after a couple minutes, power up the modem, wait for the link led lights up, then power up the router and look for it to link up with the modem, at this time the power led on the router should be on solid if all is ok.
if it still don't light solid, you may need to do a firmware update, or the router is defective.

  • Need help with understanding static vs dhcp on wrt54g router

I currently have a NAS200 device attached to my WRT54G router. The WRT54G is in DHCP mode so as to allow my various laptops and cameras to be accessed over the internet. What happens is that when I have a power failure the NAS200 is given a new ip address even though its plugged into a service port. I am then forced to go into the router and change the port mapping to whatever port the router has given to the NAS. Is there any way to keep the NAS200 at a specific ip address regardless of router resets. Thanks Hexmate

You have to set the static IP address on the NAS. The NAS is currently configured to use DHCP. Change it there to set a specific static IP address. The router itself does not have to option to set a fixed IP address to a specific device via DHCP.
For static IP addresses make sure to choose an IP address which is not used by any other device nor is inside the DHCP server address pool of the router. With default configuration a Linksys router uses 192.168.1.1 and the DHCP server uses 192.168.1.100-149, thus you have addresses 192.168.1.2-99 and 150-254 available.
Use an static IP address like 192.168.1.50, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1 (if the NAS needs internet, e.g. for time synchronization) and DNS 192.168.1.1. That should do it. Again: this has to be done on the NAS device. The router has no option for that.

Having trouble setting up a linksys WRT54GS router with verizon DSL using a westell 6100F modem. the modem works fine by its self  but the router will not connect  to the internet when installed like the cd tells you to.
online help and phone help has been less than helpful,  anyone have any Ideas?

Ok I found " Installing the liksys wireless router with a westell 6100 modem" in the verizon troubleshooting guides. printed the instructions so I would'nt forget. step 1 open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field.  PROBLEM it comes up with a login screen that I don't know how to sign into. tried the obvious stuff. cannot get past the login screen. I knew this sounded to easy to be true. anyone have any ideas?

  • I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad, will that work?

I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad, will that work? And one more thing about the setup, the linksys router shich acts as a base is in a different room as the airport express which i wanted to use for airplay. So I'm hoping to hook up the Airport express via wireless signal. If i can set it up, can someone pls help me out by posting detailed instructions. Thanks so much!

The first message that AirPort Utility will display during the auto setup will be that the Express will be confgured to "extend" the network. When AirPort Utility analyzes the network further, and sees that the Express cannot "extend" the 3rd party network, the next message will indicate that the Express is being configured to "join" the wireless network.
Once the Express is configured, if you later go into AirPort Utility to check the settings under the Wireless tab, you will see that the Wireless Mode is indeed "Join a wireless network".

  • WRT54G Router - Internet connection issues using the Ipod touch

Ok, first - here is my setup. I've got the router hooked into the modem, with the desktop computer hooked directly into the router.  I've got my laptop running off wireless internet, and I've got an ethernet cable connecting through my laptop to an xbox for xbox live connection.  I recently just got an iPod touch, and I've come to realize that whenever I'm on the iPod, it messes with the internet on the desktop computer and on the xbox, but not the laptop really.. it makes the internet really slow, or sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially on the xbox.  Is there anything I can change to make these all work at the same time?  Or is this too many connections or what? Please help. thanx.
(running windows vista home premium, WRT54G router, pretty much beginner status, though I can follow directions easily : ] )
Also, the internet always works on the ipod, it seems as though the ipod is 'taking over' the internet.. it doesn't lose it while in the area, yet the other computers and xbox does at times..
Message Edited by jmaxey0122 on 12-16-2009 05:27 AM

You might be facing the problem, because the Ipod and your Desktop computer must be having the same IP address thats the reason whenever your IPod is connected to your Network, your Desktop must be getting disconnected. Check the IP address of your IPOD and of your Desktop Computer.
First thing which you need to check, if the Physical connections are done properly. Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Linksys Router and then Connect the computer to the LAN Port No.1. On your Desktop computer login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Status tab and check "Internet IP address"
If required you can Re-Set your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from the scratch.

  • Linksys WRT54G router--Why doesn't it work with my Macbook?

I have a perfectly functional Apple MacBook (Unibody, late 2008) running Leopard 10.5.6. I have used it to connect to public Wi-Fi but it is unable to connect to my home Linksys WRT54G router. I called Apple Tech Support, and they suggested that I change the wireless channel and/or temporarily remove the WPA encryption. I did both, the computer still could not connect. In System Preferences on the MacBook, it tells me that "AirPort does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet." The tech support guy tried to help, but in the end basically told me that the router just plain might not be compatible with Apple products. (My iPod Touch cannot connect either.)
I can buy a new router, but this one works perfectly for the rest of the computers in the house (PCs) and they're expensive--and there's no guarantee that those will work either.
So: Does anyone know any solutions short of buying a new router that would make my Linksys compatible with my Macbook AND our home PCs? Or, failing that, a good, WPA-encrypted router that WILL work with both?
I have a Snow Leopard disk (I just received the computer on Thursday). Would upgrading to Snow Leopard be of any help? I'm planning on doing it anyway one of these days.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Sola Gratia

You are in the wrong forum but I'll try and help anyway. That model of Linksys router has a long history of not getting along with Apple products. That is not to say it will never work, but it does require that you download and install the latest firmware for the exact model of router that you have. There are multiple sub-models of that router so make sure that you get the right one.
Once you have done the firmware update, restart your router and try it again. WPA-psk should work but for troubleshooting purposes, turn off encryption and see if you can get your MacBook and touch working. You might want to use WPA2-psk instead of WPA.
I would hold off on Snow Leopard until you get WiFi working. Nothing like changing to too many things at one time to really mess things up.

  • Win XP SP3 PC wired to WRT54G router repeatedly crashes

I have a Win XP SP3 desktop that is wired (not wireless) to WRT54G router  (v 3.0 router with latest firmware version 4.21.1).
The PC repeatedly freezes when I connect to internet using IE or Firefox and has to be re-booted using power button. The following are the 2 error messages from Event Viewer:
    1) The AEGIS Protocol (IEEE 802.1x) v3.1.6.0 service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified -  netevent.dll. Source of the error is Service Control Manager
    2) The PCASp50 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified - netevent.dll. Source of the error is Service Control Manager.
    Other details:
    1) Vonage adapter also connected to router
    2) This PC used to be connected to same router via a wireless-G adapter WUSB54G. That has been disconnected, Linksys software uninstalled and PC is now wired to router. The problem used to happen at that time also.
    3) Router is setup with WPA-PSK security with TKIP and mode G-only.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am at my wit's end.

I also would like to suggest that you download and experiment with another browser, Google Chrome or Opera and see if they are affected also. Their installation may refresh or reload the missing dll's.

  • WRT54G router IP address is the same as my modem's IP address. how to change the routers IP address?

The broadband modem got broken and the ISP changed it to a new modem. Now my problem is I cannot use the router when they changed the modem. The ISP won't provide support since they didn't provide me with the wireless router. I've read through the forum and found that I had to change my router's IP address. WRT54G router IP address is the same as my modem's IP address, 192.168.1.1. I already changed the local IP address of the router to 192.168.1.2, saved the setting, released and renew the ip address. Now, when I connected my internet modem cable to the router, I cannot connect to the internet. I am able to ping 192.168.1.2 but I cannot connect to the ping 192.168.1.1. Please help me do the proper setup.
    Thanks!

Hello! I solved my problem but I find the solution so weird. After changing the routers IP address to 192.168.1.2, instead of plugging the modem cable on the Internet port of the router, I plugged it in one of the WAN ports. Presto, it worked. Even my wireless connection is also working.
