WRT54GS "Router Not Supported".

Hello.  I have a WRT54GS V.6.  I have had it for quite a long time, but just yesterday it stopped giving internet to its wired connection.  The wireless connection was working fine.  I reset the router (holding the button in for thirty seconds and planned on making a new network). Everytime now it tells me: "Router Not Supported".  I looked around the support here, and ended up downloading the firmware upgrade and upgraded the router, reset it once again, and tried once more.  Same problem.  "Router Not Supported".  The power light is on.  The WLAN light is on, the Ethernet Port 1 light is on, and the Internet light is blinking.  So it IS recieving the signals.  I don't understand what's wrong.  I have no internet connectivity through the router, either.
Can someone help me?

Further browsing of the forums, and I came across this:
Step 1 : You should just connect the router to main wired computer from ( port 1,2,3,4). No need to connect the dsl modem in this step .
Step 2 : hard reset the router It seems that we will have to reset the device back to the factory defaults. Kindly follow these steps to reset the device:- - While the device is 'ON', press the reset button on the back panel of the device using a pointed object and keep it held for about 60 seconds. - You will notice that the power light on the device would start blinking, indicating that it is being reset. - After 60 seconds release the reset button and switch 'OFF' the Linksys device and wait for 10 seconds and then switch it 'ON' again. - Let the power light on the device stabilize.
Step 3 : wireless settings. Please access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet Explorer and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as admin all in lower cases and then click on ok. Click on the Wireless tab - Here Wireless Network mode should be mixed - Provide any new name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box, all in lower cases without any spaces in between. Do not use any old name - Set wireless channel to 11 - And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings.
Step 4 : wireless security
1. When the router's setup page appears, please click on the Wireless tab.
2. When the Wireless area appears, click on the Wireless Security sub tab.
3. When the Wireless Security area appears, select WEP under Security Mode dropdown.
4. Encryption should be set to 64 bits 10 hex digits.
5. Skip the Passphrase box.
6. In the WEP Key1 box, type in a phone number (just the numbers no spaces or dashes) that you can remember in the box.
7. Make a note of these 10 numbers; this would be your wireless network's key.
8. Leave the key 2, key 3 and key 4 boxes blank, and then click on the Save Settings button.
Step 5 : On the 192.168.1.1 set up page of the router , please click on the set up tab . In that you will find an option as local ip address 192.168.1.1 . Please change that to 10.10.10.1 and then hit save settings at the bottom. Once setting's are saved close that page.
Step 6 : confirmation of the physical connection. You should connected the modem router ( internet port ) to main wired computer ( port 1,2,3,4). Now switch OFF both your modem and the router. Switch ON the modem first and wait for about 40 seconds and only then switch on router. At the end of the step 6 try going online from the wired computer . If you are not able to go online from the wired computer than do the step 7
Step 7 : Please access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet Explorer and type on the address bar, 10.10.10.1 and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as admin all in lower cases and then click on ok. On the main setup page select the Internet Connection Type as PPPoE. - Then provide the username and password provided by your ISP (Internet service provider) for your connection. (Example: [email protected]) - For MTU select Manual from the drop down box and set the MTU size to 1250. - Select the Keep Alive option and choose the redial period as 30 sec

  • Updated Firmware WRT54GS V7...Now Router "Not Supported"

Hello all. Just bought a new WRT54GS V7. Set up per instructions and it worked flawlessly. Detected both wireless rigs without a problem, and wired rigs worked. Decided (as I always do) to upgrade the firmware to the latest update. Got the latest .bin file for version 7, etc. Followed update instructions to the letter, including pressing the reset button for 30 seconds. Now, when trying to set up the network again, I get to the point of EasyLink trying to find the router, and I get the message "Router not supported. Easylink Advisor is designed to set up Linksys networking products.....". I re-downloaded the file in case of corruption...three times actually. Repeated the entire process with each. Still same problem. Now, I know that pretty much everything, including this router, says not to update the firmware or bios unless you are having a problem. No, I wasn't having a problem, and I guess for the first time I should have paid attention. Any suggestions/solutions? Thanks in advance.

Disable all firewall first on the computer ..... again download the .bin file from the website ....
Save it on your computer .... access routers setup page & try to upgrade the firmware again ..... make sure that you are picking up the correct file ....
After upgrade reset & reconfigure the router ....

  • Questions re: "router not supported"....and other questions

I bought the WRT54G v. 2.0 several years ago and never had issues with it until I started messing with it.  I have 3 laptops (1 hardwired, 2 wireless) and a wireless tivo working with this router.  My biggest issue is the laptop and tivo in the living room are only getting a very weak signal.  I was trying to fix that when i noticed my router was not "secure".  I don't have any linksys software on the host computer.  It was on another computer that died 2 years ago, but everything worked fine when I plugged everything in.  The router is currently doing its job except I want it to be secure and have a stronger signal.  I downloaded the Linksys EasyLink Advisor and tried to secure it from there but keeps saying "Router not supported".  It says its too old or not a linksys product (which it obviously is).  I then upgraded my firmware to the newest version and then tried to secure it with the web setup.  I did that but linksys support instructions tell me to click on a linksys icon and set it up using the software that came with the router.  I don't have that software on my computer.  I do have the disc, but when I try to set it up, the disc tells me I'm already running a router and that I should exit the setup.
My question is this:  How do I secure my network and get a stronger signal to my tivo and laptop in the living room?
    Paul

You would need a hardwired PC for this job so that every change you make and do will not kick you off the wireless network. On your hardwired PC log in to the router set-up page. To do this, open up internet explorer and type on the address bar the numbers 192.168.1.1 (username just leave it blank, password as a default is admin)...
Then go to the wireless tab and edit the following settings:
SSID - this is going to be the name of your wireless network, just give it whatever you name you would want to give it.
Channel - suggested value is "11"
Then to secure your wireless network go to the Wireless Security Subtab and set your security mode to WEP... and input your phone number on key 1. (include the area code)... then save the settings.
After this process, your router should now be secured with your own phone number as the Security WEP key.

  • Router not supported

Ok I'm new at the router game. I've had a WRT54GS for about a month now. This is really dopey but yesterday I was looking at the router box and noticed that the secure easy setup button was there, I hadn't noticed that it had any function before. soo i pushed it....it blinked so i pushed it again and it eventually stopped so I thought...i'm ok. I go on about the day and it's fine we're using the network with the other computers everything is fine until about 5 am I tried to log on from my laptop and it couldn't find a connection. I got on the master computer to see what was wrong and it said there were two connections so choose the router. I chose and it said the router isn't supported so since then I've tried everything uninstalling reinstalling resetting, nothings working. I got on here and downloaded the newest version of LELA and the firmware updater for the WTR54G and the WTR54GS but when I ran the updater It said my router isn't supported too. So basically now any time I run LELA or the firmware updater it says my router isn't supported when I know it is. What have I done and how do I reverse it? Sorry I'm long winded btw I've been working on this since 5 am.

As you pressed the secure easy set up button on the router ..... it changes the wireless settings on your router ..... making the network name as linksys_ses & the security level as WPA passpharse .....
So you are not able to go online with laptop later on .....
To make it agian configured ...... open routers set up page using http://192.168.1.1  .....leave username blank & in password use admin .....
Click wireless tab ..... change the network name to any non-linksys name .... click save settings ....
Go to wireless sub-tab .... change the security level to WEP or WPA ....have a note of the key ..... & click save settings ....
Check on laptop are you able to connect new network name & try going online .........

  • Actiontec GT704WG Rev. B router not supporting needs of WiFi use in home.

My internet WiFi lags horribly, and is suspected of causing our mobile devices to switch over to our data which has gone through the roof. Any suggestions on how this can be corrected. I have completed numerous speed test which come back ok. I have had a service tech come to the house , and he said the wires to the phone jack were loose. I am fed up with this. The load placed on the router is: 4 mobile phones, printer, Xbox, PS4 (not on at same time), and a laptop.
Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation, seriously thinking about cancelling my service with verizon if this is not fixed. Has anyone else had a similiar situation?

Reset by either unplugging the router, using the on/off switch, or using the router settings page go to advanced at the top then click on reboot router (this can be usefull if you don't want your roommates to know you temporarily interupted their internet service)
Just to clarify terminaology, reseting the router ususally refers to a hard reset of the router, whereas the actions you listed are all ways to reboot the router which does reset it to factory redafults.

  • WRT54GS V& Not Recognized By EasyLink

Hi there.  I've trawled the forums for the last hour or so but still can't seem to find a solution, so I was hoping that some of you might be able to help.
I am trying to configure a WRT54GS V7 using the CD that came with the router and the EasyConnect download from this site - but I am running into problems.
I have a cable modem which works fine when plugged directly into the computer.  However, when I follow the guide to set up the router, I get to the part where I have the internet connected to the router and the router connected to the computer.
After the wizard runs for a few minutes I get one of two messages.  When using the CD I get the "Can Not Detect Internet" message and when I run the EasyConnect utility I get the "Router Not Supported" message.
I've been trying this for a few hours now, and I just cant seem to get any further.  This is all suggesting to me that there may be a problem with the router (it's brand new by the way)?
Other info:  Dell Laptop (lattitude), Cox Cable ISP.
    Thanks!

    Hye there.....
Here are the solution k....but this is without CD..give it a try manually....

  • WRT54GS Router installs fine on PC but does not reconize Router

I just purchased this on Tuesday and trying to install. Everything seems to load using the CD but when it tries to connect to the Internet it errors out. When I check the Device Manager it shows the router as being installed properly. Direct connect to Internet works fine. This is a first time wireless setup in house, brand New computer out of the box running Windows VISTA.
Also am using a D-Link ADSL modem for internet connection.
    Any help would be great
    Thanks
    Skip77

I don’t think you need to install the router but configure it and the setup CD just does that. It does not install anything and there is no way you can find that in Device Manager. So if you are trying to configure WRT54GS, make sure you are using correct CD. Secondly this router is a Cable/ DSL router and does not support ADSL. Your ADSL should be working in Gateway mode and not in Bridge to make this router work with this modem. Check if your modem support Gateway mode and has a build-in DHCP server on it.

  • Wrt54g v8 router not working

I am trying to use the wrt54g router.  I have spent hours and hours on the phone with linksys, and finally got it to connect to my dsl.  Now when I go to the internet, the msn page will come up, but if you try to go anywhere it sits in limbo.  Maybe if I left it overnight it would come up!  My dsl works fine if I plug it directly into the computer and not through the router.  The dsl is a msn broadband dsl 1000, through qwest.  Any ideas?

connect the computer to the router's port#1 .. access the router using http://192.168.1.1 .. the default password is admin
on the ui , change the "internet connection type" to PPPoE. Enter the username and password as provided by the ISP ..
click on the "mac add clone" subtab , enable it and click clone..save the settings and do a power cycle...
connect the modem to the router's internet port..do a power cycle..check whether it connects to the internet..

  • Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router Not working

I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router and it has worked good for a couple months and yesterday it stopped. When I plug it in all the lights are lit even though there arent any ethernet cables connected and the power light blinks constantly. I tried holding the reset button on the back and it didnt help. Anyone know whats wrong or anything I can try to fix it?

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • What can I do if I want to use a route that is not supported by my device

I am using a refrence trigger  Vi. and I want the source of the trigger to be Ai\ start trigger but this route is not supported by my S series DAQ device.
since I want the source of triggering to be one of the analog input signals that I'm acquiring by my device, I have to use a refrence trigger Vi.
otherwise the source and destination of my triggering would be the samewhich will give me an error.
Is there any other way I can do my triggering by my device or I need to change my device?

  • Not able to connect my Iphone to my WRT54GS router with security enabled

As the subject line states, I'm not able to connect my Iphone to my WRT54GS router when the security is enabled. When ever I attempt to connect to my network with my phone it always tells me the password is incorrect. I have double checked the password in the easylink advisor and it matches up. I have also tried both WPA and WEP with the same result, I know that the wireless is working on the router as I turned the security off and was able to connect to it. I updated the firmware this evening also with no changes. If anyone could help me with this issue it would be much appreciated.

First of all, in the router, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also, in the router, set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your iPhone find and lock on to your router's signal.
To connect using WEP, enter WEP "key 1"  (found in the router)  into the iPhone, not the WEP password or passphrase.
To connect using WPA, make sure that there is not an encryption nomenclature problem.  For example, WPA is not the same as WPA with AES.  Please note the following:
WPA    =   PSK    =   WPA with TKIP  =  WPA   personal
    WPA2  =   PSK2  =   WPA with AES   =  WPA2 personal
I am not certain, but your iPhone probably does just ordinary WPA  (not WPA with AES).  Assuming that this is correct, then the router should be set to:
    "WPA personal"  with  "TKIP"
Also, in the iPhone, be sure to delete the entry for your unsecured connection to your router, before you try to input info regarding the secured connection to the router.
    Hope this helps.

  • WRT54G Problem- SSID not showing in list & router not sending correct IP address

Everthing was humming along.  Comcast Internet = fine.  WRT54G router, several XP Pro/SP 3 computers, 1 Powerbook + wireless printers. etc = fine.  PCs find network SSID and auto-connect without fail.
Then, Comcast Internet down.  Reboot everything. Network back up.  Computers then get wrong IP Address or do not see SSID.  (No config changes on computers.)
    So I:
    1.  Reinstall WRT54G firmware (v8) - no change.
    2.  Install new fresh WRT54G - using CD to install  - no change
    3.  Update firmware in router used in #2 - no change
    4.  Complete reset cycle and reinstall -no change.
    5.  Repeat same reset with original router -no change
    6.  Using static IP address/default gate way/DNS address - PC finds and connects to SSID but does not access Internet.
Result - no computers find SSID.  (SSID is hidden.) Don't find it when it's not hidden either.
Ethernet cabled PC works just fine.  Gets correct IP Address & Internet  access is fine.
Cable modem = Motorola Surf Board.  No physical locations of any omponent has changed.
Is it possible that both WRT54G's are not working?
Is it somehow a Comcast problem?
Should I try some other router settings?
    Many thanks!

Thanks.  These are great instructions and quite useful for setup.  Unfortunately, my problems seemed much more complex.
In the end, I redidi all the networking from scratch from the router through all the connected devices.  Finally got things back up.  I don't know how, but the Comcast failure seemed to corrupt lots of the settings even if they all looked OK.

  • "Having a cluster node act as a router is not supported by Sun Cluster"

    Hello,
can someone please explain me the rationale behind the above statement?
I need to enable ip_forwarding in the kernel and would like to understand what "not supported"
means exactly (i.e. what the involved risks are).
    I have a 2 node Solaris 9 / SC 3.1 cluster runnning with ip_forwarding = 1 since more than 2 years
wirhout a problem, at least that I am aware of :-)
    Thanks in advance,

Correct, I only use failover addresses (Logical Hostnames), glad to know it is safe to have routing in this case!!
I think you should mention that in the docs, and maybe in scinstall (which, right now, just touches /etc/notrouter
and says "please DO NOT enable routing" :-))
Thanks for the explanation, I really appreciated it.
    Best,
    Rick
