WRT54GS Router-trouble connecting to vista computer

I have 2 laptops. One is xp and one is vista. I used the setup cd to install my new router on both of them. the first thing i noticed was that there were 2 very different setups for the vista and the xp computers. when i loaded it into the xp computer it came with a proram called "easylink advisor". All i did was folow the directions and it was perfect, the xp computer is wireless. when i go onto the easy link advisor it has an option and tells you how to connect another computer to your router wirelessly. I followed all the steps on that and it did not work. as soon as i unplug the blue cord from the vista computer the internet connection is lost. I noticed that the router is connected to that computer becasue when i go to "manage wireless networks" it is there, but  when i click on the symbol by the clock and click "connect to a network" there should be a lst of all the networks i am connected to and there is nothing there. so where is my netowork??? its there according to the "manage wireless networks" page!?!?!?!
I hope that someone can help me with this problem. I have been at this all day!
thanks

Try turning your ON the wireless switch of the laptop & you will be able to see the wireless networks...click yours...click CONNECT...if secured it will ask you for hte wireless password & you will be able to go ONLINE WIRELESSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WRT54G Router - Internet connection issues using the Ipod touch

Ok, first - here is my setup. I've got the router hooked into the modem, with the desktop computer hooked directly into the router.  I've got my laptop running off wireless internet, and I've got an ethernet cable connecting through my laptop to an xbox for xbox live connection.  I recently just got an iPod touch, and I've come to realize that whenever I'm on the iPod, it messes with the internet on the desktop computer and on the xbox, but not the laptop really.. it makes the internet really slow, or sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially on the xbox.  Is there anything I can change to make these all work at the same time?  Or is this too many connections or what? Please help. thanx.
(running windows vista home premium, WRT54G router, pretty much beginner status, though I can follow directions easily : ] )
Also, the internet always works on the ipod, it seems as though the ipod is 'taking over' the internet.. it doesn't lose it while in the area, yet the other computers and xbox does at times..

You might be facing the problem, because the Ipod and your Desktop computer must be having the same IP address thats the reason whenever your IPod is connected to your Network, your Desktop must be getting disconnected. Check the IP address of your IPOD and of your Desktop Computer.
First thing which you need to check, if the Physical connections are done properly. Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Linksys Router and then Connect the computer to the LAN Port No.1. On your Desktop computer login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Status tab and check "Internet IP address"
If required you can Re-Set your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from the scratch.

  • WRT54G Router Intermittent Connection Drop

To keep all of this in a nutshell, i have one WRT54G router wired to a PC and connected wirelessly to my laptop.
With the router in place, everything has been fine for over a year until last week when the router just couldnt connect to the internet. Upgrading the firmware helped a little bit, but the connection just kept on dropping ever minute (literally) and reconnecting by itself quickly. This basically meant that the connected IP address changed every single minute, making it hell for my instant messengers and downloads which disconnect every minute when the problem happens.
A direct connection without the router in place, from modem > internet is perfect, no drops whatsoever.
I went out and bought a BRAND NEW ROUTER but the same problem is happening. Ive tried everything but cant find an answer.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Guys, im reading articles on the relation between router problems and P2P programs. It does make sense, ive been disconnected because of my torrent downloads but it still doesnt make sense that the problem is the same with a BRAND NEW ROUTER.
And why doesnt the version 7 of the WRT54G have any firmware upgrades?
I'll post here if i find anything else.

  • Trouble connecting Windows Vista to TC

I have a Windows Vista laptop that just received a new hard drive that will see my TC and says that it is connected at excellant strenght, looks it connects wirelessly to the TC but will not go out to the internet. Shows the conection as "local"? I have tried resetting the TC and the cable moden several times with no luck. If I run the cable from the TC to the Laptop it conects fine. I have also tried truning off my fire wall and have had no luck. Also I have other apple and window laptops that connect without issue. Seems to be just this one. Any suggetstions?

I had a similar problem. I was able to see and access the wireless network with my Windows Vista PC, but with no internet access. As soon I turned off the WPA2 Security on the router, everything worked fine.
It turned out to be a driver problem with the network card on my notebook. I have had this problem for over a year, and finally I nailed it.
My network card is Atheros 5007b/g and it turned out that there is some problems with these cards. You need to update the driver.
As far as I can see, the Atheros network card is installed in ACER, HP and maybe other brands. I found an updated driver on userdrivers.com, and not on the manufacturers site - hmmm - and that solved.

  • Having trouble connecting 3G to computer

So I have a bit of an odd problem. My stepfather's iPhone 3G won't connect to his new computer. iTunes is installed and updated, yet when we plug his phone in, it doesn't recognize anything. Windows isn't even recognizing it. Here's the strange thing. When we plug MY iPhone 3G into HIS computer, it connects just fine, AND when we plug HIS iPhone 3G into MY computer, once again it works just fine. Both computers are PC running XP.
Does anyone have ANY idea what could be going on here?

    Hi,
Are you connecting the iPhones with the same USB cable?
Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the PC, using the USB cable that came with it.

  • Trouble connecting Ipod to computer (USB)

I've had my iPod for about a month and a half, and haven't had any problems using it or connecting to to my PC. Yesterday I tried to connect my iPod to the computer to transfer some music and was greeted with the message "A USB device has malfucntioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port" and the instruction to remove the device. I have tried using other USB devices in the same port--it works fine with a mouse, a printer, and an external hard drive--and moving the USB cable for the iPod to another port. The iPod does not work with any port--USB 1 or 2--even though the ports work fine for other USB devices. I have tried using a different USB cable, as I had a spare--this also did not work. Is the problem with my iPod? How do I get this fixed?

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

You might need to reload the driver file for the camera. What computer operating system are you using? Windows 7, or maybe a Mac? Would need to know more about the computer to give good advice.

  • I am having trouble connecting to my computer via the personal hotspot on my iPhone 5s, can anyone help?

My iPhone 5s will not connect via wi fi to my computer using the hotspot. sometimes , if I plug it in via USB it works but most times the blue"personal hotspot connection" bar just jumps and does nothing else. Anyone , can you help?

If nothing else is working, I would reset the network settings on the iPhone. Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings. Nothing will be erased from the phone, but you will need to re-enter any wifi connection you had set up previously along with re-enter any bluetooth connection you had.

  • WRT54G Router Trouble

Noone on my wireless network can connect to the internet (including me) using this router. However, without the router I can use the internet just fine (but obviously noone else in my network can). I think my router's just given up on me after two years, but before I decide to buy a new one, is there anything I can do to fix it?

Try logging into the router and restting it to defaults and see if it works.
If it does you have the same problem as a lot of people on this board probably.

  • WRT54G v6 - Troubles connecting XBOX 360 to XBOX Live?

I just purchased a new XBOX 360 and I'm finding that I can't connect to XBOX Live using my WRT54G v6 (firmware version 1.01.1).
If I connect the XBOX 360 directly to my DSL modem, I can connect to XBOX Live.
If I try to connect the XBOX 360 to the WRT54G v6 (using either a direct ethernet connection, or using the XBOX 360 Wireless adapter) I can't connect to XBOX Live.
When I run the diagnostic tests on the XBOX 360, all of my connection tests pass with flying colours.
Has anyone else had this problem?  How do you fix it?

hi, i have just recently bought the wireless adapter for the 360, and i keep getting boot off xbox live when ever my brother turns his PS3 on or off. even when a house call is made or comes in i get booted. if my brother doesnt turn his PS3 on or a call doesnt come in or go out, i can play fine, but once one of those happens i get booted. noone knows what i can do, xbox told me to call linksys, i was never able to talk to a real person on the phone, just machines. does any one have a clue??? i was told to change my NAT, but it's open, so i dont know what to do.

  • Nano not connecting a vista computer

Have made sure up to date iTunes but it is saying cannot identifiy
    Any ideas???

    1. Plug in your iPod, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.
