WRT54GS Settings Problem

hi, i am having a problem changing my router settings. i tried using the Easy Link Setup software but that didn't do anything, also i have tried doing the http://192.168.1.1. thing, and whenever i go there this is how it looks [image] and there are no links, tabs or anything to click on except for those text boxes. i've opened it in a few different browsers and it still looks the same, any help would be appreciated

To view the router's web pages:
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Check to see if your "modem-router" is using the same 192.168.1.x address space as your Linksys router. If it is, then report back with this problem, and also state the make and model of your modem-router.
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.
If all of the above tips fail, then reset the router to factory defaults: Power down the router and disconnect all wires from it. Wait one minute. Power up the router, allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the button and allow the router to reset and reboot ( 2-3 minutes). Power down router. Wait one minute. Connect one computer, by wire, to a LAN port on the router. Boot up system. It should work.
If the reset does not fix your system, then you need to download and install (or re-install) the latest firmware for your router. After the firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

  • Wirelessly changeing WRT54G settings

    Hi
About a month ago our house got hit by lightning which fried
our trusty WRT54G and some power lines. I replaced the dead
WRT54G with my old WRT54B which worked fine and immediately
ordered a new WRT54G. (you can see I'm a fan of your equipment!)
I hooked up the WRT54G and wirelessly I can access the set up screen
of the WRT54G however I can not access the internet. If I leave all the
wiring the same and just replace the WRT54G with the old WRT54B
everything works fine and I can access the internet. That is how I am
    connected now.
It seems obvious that the problem is in the WRT54G and is probably
something I can fix through the admin screens. When I called your
support lines I was told that one can not change the setup wirelessly
and I would need to connect directly to the router. This did not seem
reasonable to me as 1) I did not have a suitable cable and 2) I had set
up both WRT54B and WRT54G before without having the cable.
My situation is slightly complicated by all my computers are Linux
machines and thus I can not run your CD.
    Questions
    1) can I change the WRT54G settings wirelessly?
    2) What settings are significant in the connection between the router
and my ISP (which is Cable Vision)
    Any help would be appreciated

    Go to Solution.

Yes you can make changes wirelessly but there are chances of you loosing the conenctions in midway . Try these settings :Configuration for cable connection:-
Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter.
    When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the WAN Ip
    address .....

  • ICal settings problem.

I have an iCal settings problem. I simply cannot change the format to 12 hours. I have repeatedly set the system to 12 hours and that works fine. I have re launched iCal several times to no avail. Running system 10.6.7 and iCal is 4.0.4. Any ideas? Thanks. Geoff.

iCal takes its format from System Preferences>Language& Text>Formats.
Click on the 'Customize' button for 'Time' and set as here:
Then drag the  'PM' button in the 'Time Elements' section to after the short time - though when I tried this it didn't appear in iCal. You may need to experiment a bit.

  • [Solved]Gnome settings problem

    Hi all.
I have some strange problems with Gnome 3.2, it is hard to explain but these screenshots should:
    http://bildr.no/image/1012613.jpeg
    http://bildr.no/image/1012614.jpeg
In the first picture you can see that something that is selected by default is pink, this happens all over Gnome. In the second one you can see that in nautilus when I want to select with the mouse it creates a white block so you can't see behind. I know it is a settings problem because the same doesn't happen on a new account, but the problem is that I have tried to delete .gnome2/ .gconf and .config but once I start to customize again the problem reappers. So I was wondering if there is anything else that I can try to delete without deleting the whole account or if there is some settings that I could to to remove this problem.
    Thanks in advanced

  • I downloaded a security update & when i tried to open firefox afterwards ,I couldn't open it. have a DEP settings problem i tried to change my computer's DEP settings but was notified i couldnt for firefox, what should I do?

I was prompted to downloaded a security update & so I did. when i tried to open firefox afterwards ,I couldn’t open it. My computer told me I had a DEP settings problem.I tried to change my computer's DEP settings but was notified i couldn't for firefox. I tried the uninstall & then install Firefox again route (could not even do it in safe mode since i can't even open firefox)but still had the same problem afterwards. What should I do?

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • N73 - Operator Settings Problem

Hi I've received settings from my operator to setup my phone automatically & they have been received in my txt inbox. When I try to open them I get the message "General: Feature Not Supported". I'm unsure why this is, the phone has the most current firmware on it. It is the standard edition if that changes anything, but I don't think it would. Would be greatful if someone could shed some light on the message I'm getting.

As i told it might not be the phone " or it might " but i've been reading through the Blyk support forum and they have their share of settings problems. on the other hand i think the N73 is one of the best handsets around so it's not a waste.
try using Blyk support forum for help:
    http://forum.blyk.co.uk/forums/default.aspx
and the best way to diagnose the problem is to use another sim card from another company "if you have one", and let them send you the confiquration messages , and try that, if it worked, then it's not hte phone.

  • Security Settings Problem w/ WRT54GS

I recently had to reset my router, and after a few initial problems with setting everything up again (had to change the routers default IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 to get it to work)... I've now hit another roadblock I can't figure out.
Every time I activate any kind of wireless security, (I've tried both WEP and WPA) I lose access to the router and the internet.
I end up having to reset the router and start all over again just to regain access to the manual configuration interface... so I can then change the default IP address to 192.168.1.2... so I can get on the internet again.
I don't recall having this much trouble last time I set this thing up... I need some help please.
    Thanks!
Dell XPS running Windows XP (SP3)

Disconnect the modem power cable and log on to the router...You need to change the router IP to 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.168.1.2...After that power cycle your router for 1 minute...Open the set up page of your router using the new IP(192.168.2.1)...Click on Wireless tab...change the Network Name (SSID) to a new name...change the channel to 11...and click on Save Settings...
To enable Secuirity follow this and then try to connect to the Wireless Network on the Wireless Computer...

    hi
ive just set up the router and everything was fine but when i upgraded the firmware it kind of scrambled the online settings. i can only see bits and pieces of the info. is there a way to fix this ? thanks

It is advisable to reset the router after upgrading the router's firmware..So reset the router for 35 seconds, power cycle the router and re-configure it from scratch.

  • WRT54G V8 problems

Ok folks ready for a story here?! First I have been fighting with this router for two months now, and as the Message subject hints I am not happy. I have three computers I want to share the internet with and so far I am at my wits end with this router!
I started with my wife's custom built desktop (wired) system because it runs Windows XP SP 2 and installed the EasyLink Home Network CD first just like it says on the package the WRT54G came in. Now that should be simple right? Nope! The setup runs I install the router into the LAN and the software tells me that there is NO router installed after I followed the guide to install it when the software told me too. So I unhook the router and connect the cable modem back up to it. I unistall the software and reset everything back to the orginal settings. I start a do over on the install and the software tells my the router is hooked up and working fine....which would be great except the only thing hooked to the NIC card is the Cable Modem?! Confused I uninstall the software once more change all the settings in the system back again and try this all over once more from scratch, barring reformatting the computer itself. I jump on this website and start reading a ton of posts that tells me nothing about this problem, other then to update the firmware of the router itself which as you can guess would be nice if the thing was actually hooked up and working. I refresh the custom built computer once more and start the install of the easy link software I go through the hook up and for the thrid time connect the router. NOW the software tells me that the router I have is not supported by this software and to use the software that came with my router originally. HUH?
Then it gets stranger!!! For giggles I jump on our sons Acer Laptop which is why we bought a wireless router in the first place. The Acer runs Windows Vista basic and is a week older then the router we bought I try the software in that and it too tells me the software isn't the original to the router that I bought. We wipe all the software from the Vista laptop and set it back up with a connection to our neighbors network once more, and I shelf the EasyLink software all together! This is where it gets strange though....I read some more of the posts on this very website and I begin to wonder if I have been had! It seems a lot of people have problems with this router and Linksys does very little to fix them. For about a week I read all I can stand to know and WRT54G routers and I really wish my D Link DI 604 wasn't stuffed in a storage room somewhere. Then it hits me.... The D Link can be set up direct using Internet Explorer...So I wonder! I head to my nine year old Windows ME, HP 8754 system I connect the Router to the Cable modem and then to the HP and open IE 6. I type in the 192.168.1.1 and in a few seconds Ba Da Bing I hit paydirt all the settings are at my control finally I start tossing all that I learned about the router at it and within a few minutes and a couple of set backs I have internet on my HP, after I shutting the wireless connection off.
Excited I race to the custom built Windows XP machine hook in the NIC card and guess what...NOTHING. I reassigned the IP addy of the NIC that I used when it was hooked up to the D Link (as I had done during the set up of my HP) and pinged the router and the HP from it but every ping to the internet failed big time! I go back to the router and the HP and start over again. I come across that article on the MTU settings I and a ping format that helps me set up a manual setting for MTU I try changing that setting and sure enough I have internet at the Windows XP machine. BUT it is slow very very slow. So slow it takes twenty minutes to download a 5 megabyte file on the Windows XP system! I restart the wireless side of the router then the fun begins all over!
Vista it seems has its own mind and it doesn’t play well with other OS’s. First it kicks the Windows XP machine out telling me that there is another machine on the LAN that has the IP Addy I gave to the custom built machine leaving it disconnected. I change the setting on the Windows XP and then the router assigning it a new addy 192.168.1.105. everything is back to “normal” slow web speed as normal and with the router installed the XP machine takes six minutes to open a webpage such as Yahoo, if you can consider that normal. Then Vista strikes again this time on the only computer I can control the router with the HP 8754. I hammer on the settings and quickly change the HP to 192.168.1.106 then set up the router to follow suite. BUT again I start finding problems after a few days the the Vista changes its IP addy over and over again, and finally I set the XP and ME machines to 192.168.1.108 and 192.168.1.109. I find that the Windows ME machine is even very slow at downloading and the speed webpages open at is sluggish at best. I have since tried static IP settings with little success and even turning off all the security systems of the router helps very little, and yet the only computer in the house that can control the WRT54G version 8 is my Hewlitt Packard. Perhaps I should just give up and buy a different router!
(Mod note: Edited for guideline compliance. Thank you.)

Also I have found that various settings in windows that you would never locate all of them can have strange effects on a computer especially when you are trying to network multiple OS's. go to http://networkmagic.com Download the free 7 day trial put it on a jump drive or burn it too a disc. install it on every computer. When I had troubles with Vista and XP on the same network this like instantly fixed all the problems I was having. Needless to say I purchased the program after it did fix it, but only cause I liked the net2go feature that allows me too host a server page for my fellow coworkers, so they can access the files I have to resolve technical issues.

  • WRT54G Website Problems

Help! I am having problems connecting to certain websites using the WRT54G Router ([ver. 8] [Firmware ver. 8.00.2).
Most websites I go to work but a select few show up as page cannot be displayed. I checked my security settings in IE and they are fine, and I also pinged the site I cannot connect to and got the MTU in CMD and adjusted the MTU on the config page accordingly but that doesn't work either. To confirm that the problem is with the router, I checked with a freind to go to the same site that I am having problems with and he said the site is up and running. Can anyone help me?

    Hi,
Download firmware from www.linksys.com/download and reflash it even if it is same version
Now reset it for one minute, and reboot it
    Now do this:
Connect computer to router directly on port 1 and modem on internet port
Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser's address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name.
Here enable MTU and set size to 1300, save settings
Goto MAC address clone subtab at top, enable it and Clone your PC's MAC, and save settings
Go to security tab, and disable block anonymous internet requests, save settings
Now power cycle modem and router.

  • Wrt54gs v6 problem

Hi, i have a wrt54gs v6, and a major problem. My router used to work pretty well, and long story short, now it doesnt. Basically what happens is eventually my access to 192.168.1.1 gets slower and slower until it doesn't work anymore at all, and the request times out. This sometimes takes 3 hours, or a week. This would't really matter, but when this happens, if I try to make a new connection to the router, its almost impossible. It wont assign an ip unless i litterly try connecting for 20 minutes repeatedly. The only thing that seems to fix it is power cycling or restoring factory defaults, but all this does is start the process over again. I've upgraded my firmware many times, and even bought a new router with the same problem, wrt54g, and i don't know what to do. The only thing i may have done to this router is install firmware for and earlier version of the router, but it worked fine and I have since updated to a correct firmware so I dont think this is the problem.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Jake,
I have a WRT54G with exactly the same problem.  I just tried the steps suggested by "Wizzard" as list below, and so far so good.  If it runs OK for a couple of days then I'll know that it's fixed.
    Fred
did u reset the router after upgrading the firmware ? u need to reset the router and then reconfigure it...on the router ui... change the mtu settings to 1396 ...go to the "wireless" tab....change the ssid and channel - 1 or 11 ...  under the "advanced wireless settings" , change the beacon interval - 75 , fragmentation threshold & RTS  - 2304.....

  • WRT54G huge problem NEED HELP! FAST!

I puchashed my WRT54G router about two weeks ago and connected it to my network and connected my xbox and xbox live to it. i noticed the live wasn'tworking as well as it should and found that i needed to open some NAT ports and update my firmware. While updating my firmware the interet page expired and i'd assume it didn't update, then i lost connection to live and the internet. It said on linksys advisor that the network had changed. So i tired to reinstall the router and it would'nt work. i made sure all the plugs were in the correct spot also, and even tried resetting the router but still no dice, and the big problem is i can't even view the router on that i.p website thing!!
p.s. i haveverizon internet and have a westell 1600 modem
if anyone can help me god bless you

    verizon , ur modem is not really a modem . its a router/modem .
its already giving u an ip address in the same DHCP range as of the router . i.e: 192.168.1.xx
u need to just plug in ur router to computer , uninstall the easy link(wont be of any gud in verizon connection ,and its buggy as well ).
once router is connected to computer from port no.1.2.3or 4 ..any one .
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds ..den unplug the power cable and plug in the power cable after 20 seconds.
then try to log into the routers web user interface - 192.168.1.1
    see if it opens?
    if yes
then ull find A local ip address option there- change it to - 192.168.7.1
and save settings .after saving the settings u might again kicked off from internet or set up web user interface.
then again , unplug the computer cable from router , and Power from router
wait for 20 seconds , now plug the verizon / westell into back of the router's into internet port as well.
    power cycle.
lights should be like -power/wlan/1/internet - on router.
    try to go online .
if it works ....let me know the status ?

  • WRT54GS VPN problem

I previously had a Linksys BEFSR41 that died. I purchased a WRT54GS that works fine "except" for the VPN connections I have. I have two seperate VPN's to two seperate facilities. These worked fine until I changed to the new router. The new router lets me connect, I can get in and do anything I want, but after about two and a half minutes it "breaks" the connection.  If I try these VPN connections directly thru my DSL modem it works fine. It also works fine from other locations. I have compared my settings from the prevoius router to the new one and I cannot see a reason why it will not work. Anybody had this problem?

I know bumping old topics is usually frowned upon, but I figure there may be others who got new routers for the Holidays (such as myself) who may now be facing the same problem... I am replacing my BEFSX41 with the WRT54GS. I got the wireless up and running and internet up and running, and I was able to VPN into my company network with no issues. My wife on the other hand could not VPN into her company network, either wired or wireless... I searched and search forums all around. I tried port forwarding, port triggering, dynamic routing...until I found this gem...I didn't even know what MTU was (I still don't fully understand it - it was disabled on the BEF), but changing it from Auto to 1452 - I can't believe it but it all works now! Thank you peanuts! molloni
