WRT54GS slow down issues

I have been recently having an issue with my router.   I have a 10M line and everything will work fine but after a few hours my speed slows anywhere from nothing to 1M.
I will reset my wireless router and the speed will go back up to 10M for a while then the whole process repeats. This just started happening a couple of days ago and have never experienced this.  Usually its on or off not somewhere in between.
I have 5 other computers hooked up to the router wireless and wired and all of them have the same issue.  I have just installed XP on one of the systems and still have the issue.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Try this setting on router ....
Under set up tab look for MTU ....change the size to 1300....click save settings ....
Channel - 1 or 11
Beacon interval - 75
DTIM - 2
RTS & fragmantation threshold - 2306
If still you are getting same issue ...
Check the firmware version under status tab......

  • Slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro

I am having a similar slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro, but I don't have bloated prproj file size.
Here is what I am working with:
Mac Pro intel quad core 2.8ghz
    OSX 10.6.7 Snow Leopard
    6Gigs RAM
3TB storage between 4 drives, each drive with about 50% free space
I am editing a 10 minute HD video from avchd files.  The edited video is very heavy in photoshop files with a variety of different fx including green screen.  The system has slowed down to almost a standstill.  Anytime I move the playcurser, or try to do any action, it displays the spinning top "thinking" icon and takes 15 seconds to several minutes to unfreeze.  I am often forced to force quit and I have gotten unexpected quits several times.   The program also freezes on startup frequently.
No other programs are running.  When I export with media encoder, it took about 4 hours to complete.  The last 4 or so photoshop images I added seemed to tip the program over the edge.  It had been slowing down some, but those last few really dropped the processing speed.  Before those additions, export took 30 min to 1hr.
I did delete the render files (did not check if the file size was bloated beforehand, oops) but it has not significantly affected my performance.

Do you need all of those extra pixels in the stills? Are you panning the full 4976?
Two things to consider are that if you using, say a 1920 x 1080 Sequence Frame Size, you can only see that at any time, regardless of how large the images are in pixels. If there are extra pixels, i.e. the Pan is not using all 4976 pxls., I would Scale to just what you need in PS, prior to Import.
If you are doing any Scale in PrPro, its Scaling algorithms are not as efficient, as those in PS. [Note: CS5 and 5.5 are a major improvement on that statement.]
With many large stills (the max for CS4 is 4096 x 4096, if there ARE extra pixels, pushing those around will use up resources, and quickly. As a test, some years back, I was working on a "photo wall," and was using 4000 x 4000 images. The workstation had no issues with slowness, until I got to the 5th large still. By the 8th, the Project was too slow to edit. I had to wait for everything. Luckily, I have AE, and it handles large stills much more efficiently, and much differently, than PrPro. I just moved to an AE Comp, and completed the Project, finishing up n PrPro, after I Exported from AE.
Just something to think about. With Scaling in PrPro, this is one time, where bigger is not necessarily better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • CS5 and 6 slow down issue - was working fine

    Hi Everyone
Hoping you can help as i've tried pretty much everything I can think of to resolve this. I've been running CS5.5 production premium for a while now, powerful PC, everything was running fast and working great.
Now, all of a sudden Photoshop keeps slowing down to a crawl - im talking massive slow down, the mouse cursor doesnt even move properly. No hardware has changed, and no major software changes, all CS5 is up to date. All my other CS programs (after effects, illustrator etc) are working fine. Tried re-installing CS5, I also installed the PS CS6 trial to see if that works, but it also suffers from the same slow down issue.
So if anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate them! Before I have to do a complete clean install of the whole system.
    Thanks
    Jack

More details on your set-up might be helpful.

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • Opening CC project in CC 2014 and having slow down issues

I need to update my project with the newest version of Premeire so I can share it with another editor. When I open the old project in the up to date Premiere, everything takes 10 seconds. Hit space bar - 10 seconds before anything moves. Hit it again to stop - 10 seconds. Everything.
So then I tried an XML out from my old project and opening it in updated Premiere. The slow-down is gone! but all the data I entered for all my footage (this is a feature) has been erased!
Can anybody help me with either the slow down or the XML loss of meta-data?
    thank you!

    An Update.
I exported an EDL out of CS5 and then brought the EDL into CC2014. I relinked the media in question and it works fine. The EDL however is not ideal for what I am doing here, as the relinking in CC2014 is not working properly either.

  • [Athlon64] Windows XP is suddenly having extreme slow down issues

    Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone has had something like this happen.
Two nights ago, my computer ran just fine, but when I logged in last night, it took over a minute to bring up the start menu, a minute to load any sort of software, pretty much a minute for anything I wanted to do.  I updated my Ad Aware software and searched for spyware (none found) and also updated my Norton Antivirus and did a complete scan (nothing found).  Only myself and my wife use this computer, and she claims she didn't download anything, and I know I didn't (other than updating Ad Aware and Norton).
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Ui30,
Thank you for the reply.  I am currently at work, and I don't remember what version I am using.  When my subscription expired about 2 months ago I upgraded it to the latest (I think).  Norton isn't the only software package that is experiencing this slow down.  If I load up a video, or an mp3, it still takes over a minute to load it up.  Two days ago either of these video/mp3's would take less than 2 seconds to load.
    Thanks again.

  • WRT54G slows down speed and makes many downloads fail

I can't get utube videos when I'm going through the router.  I can get them if I'm on the modem only.  The same applies to long PDFs, software updates, long virus definition updates, videos in general and graphics heavy websites.  It just slows down eventually to a standstill and the download fails.  As stated when the router is not connected the above items pop up or download reasonably quickly through the modem.  We have moderate speed DSL.
    Help!

So the concern that you explained is that you cannot run videos,PDF's or any software updates while connected through router.. So in that case you need to upgrade the firmware of the Router which can be downloaded from the Cisco website ( homesupport.cisco.com )...
Then reset the Router and power cycle the whole network....
Once done with that you have to reconfigure the Router again according to ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) setup...
Disable the anti-virus and security centers if any...

  • WRT54G Slows Down... Fast, Slow, Fast, Slow

My internet connection seems to constantly "burp". This is a relatively new issue and has been happening since the local cable company was down for a day of maintenance - coincidence, I don't know. This morning my internet was flying, running perfect. Now, and most every evening, it seems to "burp" all of the time... sometimes works perfectly, then sometimes creeps. The cable company has checked everything on their end and swears it is not their problem. They mentioned it may be a problem with my router... i don't know. Anyway, here is my network: Cable Modem, 5MB connection Linksys WRT54G, running latest firmware Laptop PC - wireless Desktop PC - wireless Mac G5 - wired Desltop PC - wired X-Box 360 - wired Anyway... that's it. It has always run fine until just recently. I think it's a cable problem, but they seem to think it's my router. Any ideas of what I can try with the router to fix the problem? The cable guy mentioned the possibility of a virus on the router? Thanks!

okay... go to www.linksys.com/download and download the firmware and try reflashing/ upgrading firmware on the router...after reflashing firmware on the router try resetting it back to default settings and reconfigure it according to ISP settings, try reducing MTU to 1365 on the router...check whether it works for you or not, if it still doesn't work let me know the version and firmware version of the router and ISP details...

  • Slow down issue when editing in Presenter 8

One of our Presenter users just new to Presenter 8 (Until recently used Presenter 6 with no issues), imported a mp3 file into the first slide of a PowerPoint presentation. Here is the description of the editing issue:
The issue is that when we are editing the audio in presenter 8, there is significant gaps in the time it takes. The system seems to be “thinking” after we make the changes and then go back and look at them. Like there is something running in the background. It is on every slide and after every edit. So you remove a 1 sec “um” and the system has to think before can move on to next edit. This adds up to significant production time increase. I would say 4x production time increase.
This is too significant of a performance issue to justify moving to Presenter 8 if not addressed.

I've just launched PS Elements more than ten times while holding down on these keys.  Elements launches, but absolutely nothing else happens.
At first, I thought that perhaps this keystroke combination might only work on a Windows computer.  But with your information in hand, I went into the Elements help file, and found that this is indeed the keystroke combination to use on a Mac.  However, this keystroke combination definitely does nothing on my computer.
If you tell me what this preference file is called, or where it is stored on a Mac, I'll delete it manually.

  • Massive slow-down issues

My MBP is about 18 months old now. But in the last week or so it has been having huge issues with speed. I've got enough hard drive space free, and there's nothing in the activity monitor taking up power. I honestly can't find whats wrong. Disk verify comes back with all ok, and even starting up takes almost 5 minutes! Even with nothing plugged into it. Also, annoyingly, Spore is taking almost 5 minutes to even get to the opening movie. And then, invariably, it crashes a few minutes later. This has also only just started to happen.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi e3gle;
If you put the install media for your Mac into the optical drive and hold down the "D" key that will invoke the AHT. This can test all of the hardware in your Mac including RAM.

  • Is there max number of switches I can connect to Linksys SD2008? Slow down issues...

I have a SD2008 main 8-port switch.  Connected to this, I have THREE 5-port switches from DLINK, each on its own SD2008 port.
    1) My DSL provides 10 Mbps maximum.
    2) On two of the DLINK switches, I can get 10 Mbps with speedtest.net
    3) On third switch (connected last in time), I can only get about 2 Mbps.
    4) If I disconnect one of the other two switches, the 3rd slow one now is 10 Mbps.
It seems like there can only be 2 switches connected to the SD2008.  Is this true?
If so - is there a new model of switch that I can connect 3 switches to (two 5 ports and one 8 port).

  • Computer to computer copy slows down over internal airport network over time

This is a strange problem but here goes...
    Some useful background info:
I have recently successfully downloaded a 212MB file from a site on the internet through a new Apple Airport Express network I just created as a troubleshooting method in about 12 minutes or so and I don't seem to have any slowing down issues with internet connections to websites and downloads.
The issue I seeing with internal network copies:
When I try to copy files from an Apple PowerBook G4 running Leopard 10.5.2 to an iMac G5 running the same version of the OS, copies over the internal network exhibit a very odd behavior. The copy is from the Power Book G4's Public folder to any folder on the iMac.
The copy starts in The Finder just fine and seems to be going very fast as expected by an internal network copy but after some short arbitrary amount of time, the copy slows down, the estimated times grows slowly but consistently for the copy to complete and eventually the OS says there was a problem and the copy fails. There's no error number of message other than the copy couldn't be completed. As I mentioned above, the time to complete the transfer id initially estimated as a very short amount of time but eventually, the copy action hits a brick wall where it slows down further and further until it fails.
Other notes: the copy I've been attempting consists of files and folders that are of various sizes but I've tried it with small and large copies and this has worked fine in the past with Leopard and other, older OS' over the WRT54G's wireless network. I created the Airport Express network to see if that would solve this problem but it hasn't which makes me think the issue is with the router and not the wireless network.
    Additional details:
Sometimes, the reported copy slowdown occurs at 5MB into the copy, other times it doesn't happen until it gets about 50MB into the copy. What's strange to me is, large file downloads over the Internet are just fine. There does appear to be some burst that degrades a bit over time but not like the internal network copy's speed which just drops off really quickly.
I have been successful in the past copying from Mac to Mac over this exact same router using the WTR54G's wireless network but I started having problems fairly recently and now the copy doesn't finish over the WRT54G or the Airport Express network that I recently created to see if the issue was with the WRT54G's wireless network settings or hardware.
There's plenty of free space on the machine that I'm copying to but this happens repeatedly when I try to copy from one computer running Leopard to another.
I don't think this issue is related to the Airport Express because I recently created a new network to test this issue called Bedroom Airport Express. Previously, when I'd been successful performing these types of transfers, I was using the LinkSys WRT54G's built in wireless capabilities and had no issues using Go To and entering the computer's IP address.
The router is still the WRT54G on ATT's DSL network using DHCP and there's no special config., other than that I had to re-IP the internal network to 192.168.199.1 for work related reasons but that's about it.
The MTU had to be increased to 1492 for the internet to work properly when I got my first WRT54G; an older version of this device that I replaced recently with a new one [although this copy worked with the new one as well prior to the issue I'm posting about coming up].
The firmware version of the WTR54G router is v8.00.2 and the Airport Express has been recently updated to the latest firmware available (this issue was occurring over the WRT54G's wireless network before the firmware upgrade to the Airport Express).
If anyone knows what if anything I can do to troubleshoot what the issue is, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.
This networking stuff is a bit of a black art to those of us that are dilettantes in this arena and I certainly qualify as a dabbler in the art of network configuration.
I've been using a LinkSys router for a long time with a Mac/PC internal network that connects to the internet and computers inside the internal network for many years now and have had few issues.
    Thanks in advance,
    Darin

I'm new to the Apple discussions, although not new to Apple computers and I've seen that this post has received quite a few views but no responses. Maybe someone could direct me to the right place to post this, if this is not that place, or, suggest some terminal tools that I could use to troubleshoot the issue with the Airport network or LinkSys Router I'm using [WTR54G v.8.0.0.x]? Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide to a networking noobie.

  • Why does Photoshop keep slowing down?

I've been using Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 for two years now, and for some reason it seems to have the problem of slowing down after using it for a while, so if I'm working on a project I have to keep closing it and reopening it to get it fast again. It's weird because it doesn't seem to matter how much stuff is on the canvas, it's just how much I've drawn and hit undo and erased or did anything, After like 5 minutes of straight work it just gets too slow for me to work in, like when I switch tools or change the color it takes a couple seconds to respond. So literally every couple minutes I have to restart Photoshop and open the same file.
What's really odd is that sometimes Photoshop will work perfectly fine and stay lightning fast for hours. Like, for the last couple of months it's been 100% fine, but since a few days ago it started to have this "slowing down" issue again. Every couple months it seems to decide to be perfectly fine or just really annoying. I didn't change anything in my computer.
It can't be my computers specs or my settings in Photoshop, but I will tell you all of that anyway.
    OS - Windows 7 64-bit
    CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0GHz
    RAM - 12GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz

There is no malware scanner running, in fact I have tried closing out all other applications and unnecessary processes to help improve performance. No luck.
Also, my post actually wasn't quite finished, but my internet shut off on me last night and I guess that just automatically posted whatever I had done before then. What's even better is that the forums won't allow me to edit it. What great features!
Anyway, here's the FULL spec sheet of my computer...
    OS - Windows 7 64-bit
    CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0GHz
    RAM - 12GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz
    GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 1GB
    Storage - 1x 128GB SSD (OS installed on), 1x 750GB HDD, 1x 160GB HDD
I have the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5.1 Extended, installed on the SSD. Here's the settings I have in the preferences:
    Memory Usage - 100%
    Scratch Disks - All 3, SSD 1st, 750GB HDD 2nd, 160GB HDD 3rd
    History States - 100
    Cache Levels - 8
    Cache Tile Size - 1028K
I have fiddled with these settings and restarted Photoshop countless times. In the end it's the same exact result: Photoshop slows down after a few minutes of work and I have to restart it. I have about 50GB free on the SSD, 150GB free on the 750GB, and about 140GB free on the 160GB.
I don't understand why it gets so slow even when my RAM usage only makes it up to about 45%. Why doesn't it just utilize ALL of the memory like I told it to?
I've tried setting cache to 1, 2, and 4, same result. Cache tile size to all the different settings, same result. History states to an extremely low level like 10, same result. I just don't understand why Photoshop is doing this, especially because it decides to speed up on its own every couple of months...

  • Windows 8.1 "explorer.exe" gradually slows down - Observation

Hi, I posted a question a year ago about Windows 8.1 gradually slows down issue, and it seems still not being solved. I recently found some new clues about this, hope it can be useful. (Please read the original post first
since it contains basic descriptions of the issue:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f9ab40a8-6681-4c66-bdbd-9de7b2fb021f/windows-81-gradually-slows-down-after-hours-speed-returns-normal-if-restart-explorerexe?forum=w8itproperf)
This issue is found to be somehow related to total Page Faults of explorer.exe since it starts. The majority of page fault is created by desktop background slide show. On my laptop, the slide show is set to randomly switch between 53 jpegs
(mostly 1920*1080) every 10 seconds. The Page Fault Delta of explorer.exe is usually 2 per second when not doing anything, and tenth to hundreds when there are some actions. But at the instance when the background is switching, it will peak to a value
    between 13,000 and 30,000.
I don't know if this value is normal or not, but when the total Page Faults reaches about 20,000,000, a slight slow-down can be observed by moving your mouse up and down on the favorite bar items in IE (the right bar shown when pressing Alt+C
in IE), a slight lag can be observed. The slow down (slightly) of normal windows can be observed when Page Faults reaches about 40,000,000. At that time, the mouse lag on favorite bar items becomes much more obvious. After another few hours, the slow-down
    will become more serious.
I tried to disable the slide show by only using one background image, the total Page Fault stays low and the slow-down issue does not occur after one day (the Page Fault after one day is also far less than 20,000,000). That's why restarting explorer.exe
can temporarily fix it. I tried it on 2 other Windows 8.1 computers and get the same results. Maybe there is some memory allocation or fragmentation problem building up? One thing I don't know is that if this is caused by the background slide show itself,
or if explorer.exe in general will slow down after experimenting enough page faults.

    Polyhedron,
This main reason of this issue is not the Windows system. A page fault occurs under these situation:
    1. A program requests an address on a page that is not in the current set of memory resident pages.
    2. The virtual memory system has become unstable because of a shortage of physical memory (RAM).
    3. The virtual memory system has become unstable because of a shortage of free disk space.
    4. The virtual memory area is corrupted by a program.
    5. A program is attempting to access data that is being modified by another program that is running.
Please refer this blog to determine it's hard faults or soft faults.
    The Basics of Page Faults
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2008/06/10/the-basics-of-page-faults.aspx
In addition, from your description, since the background slide itself is without problem, I suspect the root is your ram. Try to increase the amount of memory or reduce the cache size for test.

  • Firefox 6 slowed down the loading of webpages to a ridiculous level. What the heck is going on, and why isn't there a fix for it?????

Web pages take forever (ie, minutes) to load.

    I suggest you revert.
6.0 apparently has many performance issues. I can't speak to your specific slow-down issue, but if you look at these boards, 6.0 has enough problems to suggest it should be avoided until Mozilla actually puts out a FIX release, not a "new release with new added bugs" release.
