WRT54GS V.5 AND WRT54GS V.6

Which the difference between them? But the Hardware in v.6 is better?
Sorry bad english.

From the WRT54G wiki it says the only difference is the Broadcom chipset numbers.
They both have VXWorks operating system
Version 5 has BCM5352EKPB Chipset
Version 6 has BCM5352EKBG Chipset
You can read up on the WRT54G series and get a better understanding from this LINK

  • Difference between wrt54g v.2 and wrt54g-tm

Have the old v.2 and got the new -tm from tmobile as part of their new uma voip hot spot at home phone option. the v.2 seems to have the wmm option so the phone will work, but I'm curious about any other improvements or upgrades the -tm has I'm not aware of. I'm trying to decide which to keep and use. I'm also try to use a wre54g v.1 expander with these.

Difference is QoS(quality of service) bandwidth, specifically geared for VoIP. If you want to get eid of of v.2, private message me.

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • WMP54GS and WRT54GS = dropped connections

I have had the WMP54GS and WRT54GS setup for around 2 years now. I have version 2 of the router, and everything has been fine up until a couple weeks ago. Lately I have been getting randomly dropped from the router. I already have the latest firmware for the router, and have tried changing the channel, and the operating mode to G only, but nothing helps. Sometimes drops occur ever few minutes, sometimes they are so constant that I cant even connect at all. I will refresh my network list and the network will not show up for a few seconds, and then it will, so I will try and connect and it will say Unable to connect.
Sometimes when I refresh the network list and it will show my network like 4 times... like this
    SSID
    SSID 1
    SSID 2
    SSID 3
I have SSID broadcast off if that makes any difference...
I have no idea what is going on, is this a problem with the router or the network card? What should I do? thanksMessage Edited by jls1986 on 05-03-200709:38 AM

First of all, give your network a new unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router.  Also, do not use your old SSID.   Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
After you have completed the above stuff, then go into your computer, to your "Preferred Networks"  (sometimes called "Profiles" ) and delete all networks named "linksys", also delete all entries with your old SSID.  While you are there, delete any network that you don't recognize, or that you no longer use.  Add your new network with your new SSID, encryption method (if any), and key (if any).  Reboot your modem, router, and computer.  Then try to connect to your new network.  Once you have connected, return to "Preferred networks" and set your computer to connect to your new SSID automatically.  If you have an option that says, "Connect to any available network", turn it off.
If you are running any peer-to-peer (P2P) software (BitTorrent, Ares, etc.), this is known to cause disconnection problems.  Go into the P2P software and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
    Hope this helps.

  • Connect WRT54G and WRT54GS

Hello, Hoping for some help with the following. So, in my living room, i have my comcast dual phone/cable modem, my linksys wrt54gs, and range of wireless devices (PC, PS3, Wii) We just bought an XBOX 360 today for my son's room, and i am trying to figure out how to connect the 360 online, without having to buy the Xbox or Linksys wireless adapters and without moving the modem into his room. Is it possible to connect my WRT54G wirelessly to my WRT54GS and then use ethernet from the wrt54g to the 360? Expert advice needed. Thanks in advance. Gavin

You cannot do what you described, at least not with Linksys firmware.  Linksys routers are designed to generate a wireless network, not to connect to an existing wireless network.
The function that you described is called a "wireless ethernet bridge".
One option would be to check around for third party firmware, to see if you can find firmware to convert your WRT54G to a wireless ethernet bridge.   You might want to check "dd-wrt" or others.  Note that loading third party firmware into your router will void your Linksys warranty.
The other option is to but an Xbox wireless adapter, or get a Linksys wireless ethernet bridge, such as the WET200, or WET54G.
Of course, the ideal solution for gaming is to run an ethernet cable from the WRT54GS to your Xbox.  I am sure your son would love it!

  • Trouble with WPA in WDS between AE and WRT54G

Hi folks, I've have WDS with my AEBS as a remote base station and a Linksys WRT54G as the main base station. I've be running smoothly with 128 bit WEP encryption for about 6 months, so last weekend I tried upgrading the network to WPA personal .
As soon as I go to WPA the AEBS stops talking to the WRT54G. My G4 powerbook can get an get an IP address directly from the WRT54G (when it's in range) so I'm confident the WPA password is correct. Other than changing the wireless security settings I left the AEBS configuration the same as was working for WEP.
I'm running Airport Admin 4.2 and I've tried both firmware 5.6 and 5.5.1 -- same problem in each case. No connection between AEBS and WRT54G.
I had hoped the AEBS would send and error messages to the system console, but so far I have found no useful diagnostic to debug this problem.
Anyone out there get WPA encryption working for a wireless distribution system between AEBS and WRT54G ?
    Thanks,
    David

    Thanks for the reply Henry.
    Hmm... I'm running WRT54G firmware version: v4.20.6, May. 26, 2005.
The SSID's are the same (WEP still works) and personal WPA in the WRT54G is set up using a pre-shared key and TKIP algorithm.
And yet still with DHCP turned on I see that my AEBS is generating "local" IP addresses 256.xxx.xxx.xxx rather than getting an address from the range served by the WRT54G. Since this same configuration work using 128 bit WEP I'm assuming the issue is that the AEBS and WRT54G aren't talking properly.
Do you have a pointer to the previous discussion that suggested WPA on an Linksys AEBS WDS is possible? ... maybe I can contact the author directly.
    Thanks again,
    David

  • Play Station 3 and WRT54G Recent Problem

My Play Station 3 and WRT54G DID work fine (connecting to internet) and now it doesn't.   Can't connect to the Internet with WRT54G now.    Tried Chat Line but since Router is out of Warranty, they won't talk to me without $$$$.    What do you do to solve this issue.    It DID work.    Have V3.      Downloaded new software v4.21.1 but haven't installed it.   Will this be of any help or will it get worse.    I did hook up the Play Station 3 via a WIRED Linksys Router and it works fine so Play Station 3 is okay.

Before your Connect your PS3 to your wireless network, you need to check the wireless settings of your Router (SSID, Security key).
On your Computer, Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Once you login to the setup page of your Router, Click on the Wireless tab and check whats the Wireless Network Name, and then again you need to click on the sub tab "Wireless Security" and check the Security Mode and Security Key....
On your PS3, Search for your Wireless Network and attempt to connect to your wireless network....

  • XBox 360 and WRT54GS no one can fix this. Please help if you can?

I'm totally out of ideas here and would appreciate it if someone could help me?  We have 2 XBox 360's both with the Microsoft XBox wireless adapters.  My son has had his since they first came out whatever year that was.  My youngest daughter got hers last October.  Both XBox's connect to XBox LIVE without a problem via a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router.  The problem we can't solve is - my oldest daughter and son-in-law live about a mile from us and they have an XBox 360. When we try to connect to their XBox (or anyone else that's local) to play against her and her husband, it won't connect and gives us a "Disconnected" prompt every time. They have no problem connecting to other XBox's locally but we, for some reason, can't.  I can connect our XBox directly into our cable modem bypassing the Linksys and it connects to them, so it isn't the cable modem.  I've changed settings on the router, internet, XBox with no luck.  I've updated the firmware.  I've read thru posts on the internet for weeks and now my brain is mush.  Is this fixable or do I need to buy a new wireless router?  Also, I don't know if this has anything to do with anything but we have 3 PC's and 3 DVR's also connected to the internet but are hard wired.  My kids and grandkids have DSi's, a Playststion3, and a Wii and those all connect via wireless and work great.  XBox has this WRT54GS listed as compatable.  I'm stumped.  I know there's some really sharp folks out there somewhere.......please help if you can?  Thanks for any help you could offer!

Have you opened the ports on the router....?
If not then, you need to open ports 53-3074 on the router..Read this link. Also, under the security tab on the router, uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...

  • Xbox 360 and WRT54G

I think I've reached a solution to the issues that I've had w/my Xbox network settings and the console not finding an IP address via the WRT54G v.6. After hours and hours of trying all the suggestions that I've read on this forum I've decided to take the SOB back to the store and exchange it for another brand of wireless router. I think this router and its software are poor and is not complimented by the ability of the average layperson. Anyway, if any of you other poor users are doing a search on Xbox then I hope you read this first before you waste the amount of time I have.
    Good Luck.

I didnt hve an issue with my WRT54G and my sons XBox.  Entered the security key in the xbox, clicked on connect and away he went.  But the difference might be is that I have a vesion 4.  Has been running for about 4 months now ever since I recieved the wireless xbox adapter.

  • Can WRT54G use WPA and WEP at the same time?

I used to have a smc 802.11b wireless router and a dlink 802.11b wireless print server.
In order to have WPA and a firewall, I replaced the wireless router with a linksys WRT54G.
Then I realize the dlink print server, even though it has the "g" keyword in the model name, does not do WPA (DP-G321).
Do I have to buy a 802.11g wireless print server? Or is there another solution?
I don't supposed the linksys router can do both WPA and WEP at the same time?
Connecting the print server to the router with a cable is not feasible. They are on different floors.

both of your devices are has a wireless b technology settings, just set a wep encryption on your network rather than wpa because some wireless b devices don;t work with wpa. with regards to your query if wep and wpa can be used at the same time, the answer is no.

  • Problem with non-wireless Orange Livebox and WRT54GS

    Hi all,
I have a non wireless Livebox modem that I was using perfectly. The livebox modem is able to connect itself to the internet, so the only thing I have to do is to plugin the laptop lan cable into the modem and it works.
So I decided to add wireless capabilities and bought the WRT54GS. I followed all the setup steps until the point when it says that it can't connect to the internet. So the setup is the following: the linksys router is connected to the livebox modem via Ethernet cable, though I don't think I need any PPPoE settings as the modem already dials in itself (it's actually also a router I guess).
Currently I'm trying to use Linksys with the Livebox using DHCP instead of PPPoE. It won't work and I don't have the Livebox PPPoE settings.
Is this a very specific scenario ??
I would really like to solve this!
    Many thanks,
    Joel

    Hi,
After some browsing on info on the internet I found how to fix the problem.
Since I have two routers chained together, their private LAN IP addresses must be in a different network. So I changed the default router private IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1
    Now it works.

Connected it to the router again, No effect, the network line shows no sign of life.
Checked the cables, changed the cables, no effect.
I have abolutely NO idea what's wrong.
Please help, I hope someone has had similar stuff and solved it.
    I have software version 1.42.2 and a wrt54G v1.1

Hi.. Try to change the wireless channel to 6, 9 or 11. Also change beacon interval to 50 and fragmentation and RTS thresholds to 2304. Well you seems to have very old fimrware on your router. I believe linksys has come out with version 4.30.5. You can also try to upgrade the firmware on your router.
