WRT54GS v.6 and Axim wireless connection

Have been battling this with 2 different routers. First was a WRT54G and now the WRT54GS. When I connect wirelessly with my Dell Axim x51v the connection only lasts about 1 minute then degrades down to nothing, but still shows connected. I have latest firmware for the router and the Axim. I have tried connecting to other routers with no problem, so I know this has to do with this router (manufacturer) and maybe I'm missing some setting somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi , you will have to make a few changes to your wireless config.....bring up the router setup bu http://192.168.1.1 "admin" is the password....go to the wireless section  and select channel 11 , enable WEP under wireless security and then go to advanced wireless settings....reduce the beacon interval to 50 and reduce the RTS and fragmentation threshold by 40 each.....save settings and then check if this improves your wireless signal.

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

  • Linksys E2500 and Mavericks wireless connection

Installed Mavericks and lost wireless connection with my linksys e2500.
Cisco connect says "unsupported operating system"  and "visit http://homesupport.cisco.com/linksys/support"
Cisco website does not address Mavericks OS

I'm having the same issue with my Cisco Linksys router.
I am unable to connect to the wifi network, or use the Cisco Connect application. As the application is the only way of adding and removing devices from the network, changing the password, and likely fixing this issue, I'm quite frustrated.
I phoned Cisco about this issue yesterday and they had no helpful information. They advised me to download the newest Connect software from their website, and stated this should fix the issue. I told them that I'd already attempted this solution, but their software has only been updated to include a compatibility fix with 10.8, and the issue is with 10.9. They then advised that I restart my computer. AKA, they would be no further help.
The Connect software is available for download here, so I hope that they release an update soon with a fix to this problem. The release notes under the latest update include a mention of the 10.8 compatibility fix, so I hope a 10.9 fix will be forthcoming.
The only solution in the meantime seems to be a complete restart and install of the router and software using a PC. And even this only works to correct the Cisco Connect issue, and likely not the main issue of actually using the wifi network with Mavericks. Regardless, I believe this is a Cisco/Linksys issue, and not an Apple issue.

  • WRT54G No longer available as Wireless Connection, Cat5 connect without issue

Without changing a single setting I can only appear to go wireless on the neighbors unsecured network OR plug in the old Cat5 leash.  My network no longer appears as an option when attempting to connect wireless.  It's consistent across two laptops.  Any ideas?

This appears to be similiar to my problem.  The router worked fine via wired connections but the wireless connections failed.  The real problem was that the router was not issuing IP addresses to any clients connected via wireless.
The clients recognized the router and connected utilizing WEP 128 bit encryption.  However, the DHCP in the router never issued an IP address thus no connection to the internet.
As it turned out it appears to be related to the latest firmware update issued by Linksys.  In my case 201.13 for the WRT54G3G-ST sold by Sprint.  I ended up at one point with 2 routers from Spring and both of them had the same problem after upgrading the router firmaware.
To get around the problem I had to perform a hard reset and restore the router to factory defaults.  I can change the router name without issue as long as the name is 8 characters or less.  I was utilizing the name of spiderweb and that causes the problem.  The client PC's would see spiderweb and connect but never got an IP address.  Also activating WEP in either 64 or 128 bit encryption causes the same problem so I am currently running the system in "open" mode.
Hopefully the next firmware update release will have these issues addressed.

  • Netgear WNDR3700, Tp-Link WPS510U, Epson Photo 1400 and PowerRIPX: wireless connection

    Hi All
I need some advice regarding a wireless connection to my inkjet printer.
I have recently replaced my router with a Natgear WNDR3700 dual band device (2.4G and 5G). Connected and working wirelessly are my MacBook Pro, iPhone, Zeppelin Air, smart TV. Connected and working wired are my satellite modem, VoIP ’phones and laser printer.
However, I have an Epson Photo 1400 with a Tp-Link WPS510U which isn’t working. It worked with the old router.
Netgear’s Genie application shows the printer to be available under AirPrint.
The printer driver I use is PowerRIPX PostScript.
The TP-Link has the correct IP address from the previous configuration (192.168.1.10).
Printing shows the document processing in the print queue, but there is no flashing green LED on the front of the printer and no output results.
So … how do I actually get this to work? Advice gratefully received.
    Cheers
    Paul

  • Macbook and slow wireless connection

I have trouble reaching high speed when connecting with AirPort to my BT Voyager 2110 router. Connecting with a cable works great.
It seems to be a problem many people have that their wireless connection between the Mac and a router gives only a fraction of the transfer speed compared to when when using a PC and connecting wireless to the very same router. Is Mac more sensitive and have compatibility problems?

I solved the problem I described above. I changed the channel on the router to 11. Tech support told me that Macbook prefers 11, then 2 and then 6. I tried number 2 yesterday and it was still bad. However, channel 11 solved my problems. Now the wireless is fast as with cable.

  • Severity: 3 Administrative access denied, and lost wireless connection

What does that mean? I am currently watching my Logs file update every other second with a new line that looks like someone is trying to access my Airport.
The date is wrong too, says Dec. 31 when it's May 31. Line is as follows:
    Dec 31 19:03:15 Severity:3 Administrative access denied to fe80::21e:c2ff:fec0:4f0d%mirror0/49925.
The original reason why I was looking at the Log was because I got bounced off my Airport again. It happens now and then, when there are a bunch of wireless connections in the building, I can see them listed, but when it happens, my own Airport is missing from the list.
The other issue is that I am not interested in paying for someone else's internet access. I have it password protected, but the person I *think might be trying to hack it, is a computer genius/programmer who's built systems, so I'm a bit worried because I don't know anything about this stuff.
Is there any way I can make sure I'm not bounced off my connection again, and that noone else gets to use my connection?
    Thanks!

As long as you're passwords are strong, I wouldn't worry about it. There is always someone somewhere trying to gain access to a router, to get internet access or what have you.
More then likely if someone did try and access your routers, and got denied, they just moved on to the next router he could find and try to access that one.
Just make sure you're passwords are strong enough.
If you're concerned that your password isn't strong enough, or to common, check out this website.

  • New macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

Just looked throught this part of the forum and found out there are a lot of people out there which seem to have the same problem as me.
I purchased a new modell 2011 MBP on the very first day from our apple store.
At home, sitting directly beside the wireless router I didn´t noticed anything wrong.
I have got beside of the Mac OS a bootcamp Prt. with Windows 7 on it and everythign works fine so far.
Five days after purchased I started traveling on business and at present we are for some weeks in Melbourne. Were having a wireless connection in our appartement and here I have got massiv problems with my connection.
We are having altogether four windows mashines with us, my IPad, my Iphone, another HTC smartphone, and my new Macbook.
All the other devices connecting to our room wireless without problems. The net strengh is not fantastic but the other devices bringing it up to four bars on the windows wireless symbol in the task bar. None of the other computers where ever loosing the connection.
Only my macbook can not make it over three bars and its going on and off. Donwloads fail freuquently because the conection is interrupted more than one times..
In my opinion this problem is even worse on the Windows OS and a bit better but far away from beeing good and acpetable on the Mac Os.
I hope its only a driver issue and there is no hardware problem with the new mashine. Other than this I love the new notebook and I am very satisfied with its performance.

    Hi,
I've noticed similar behavior - specifically with the new 2011 MacBook Pro 13 and 17" models (tested) on Cisco infrastructure - using a 1252 and 3500i/e series APs running in dual-band mode, with 5GHz preferred. I've seen the transfer rates when in close proximity to the AP move between 72mbit and 243 - occasionally 300. My 2010 system in the same position is a solid, dependable 300.
They did modify the wireless chipset in the new 2011 MacBook Pros to replace it with a true 3x3 802.11n device. Cisco have long praised the Broadcom chipsets so I will see if their wireless team can advise me on what this new gear is capable of.
I currently look after a very large deployment of wireless LAN equipment so my wireless performance is absolutely critical to my work - the 2010 system was a godsend and a testament to how wireless devices should be built. It looks to me like this could be a software issue so I only hope Apple resolves this ASAP. I'll hang on to my 2010 system for now...

  • Express and lost wireless connection

I use a wireless connection through my mac for my interent. I have had no problems with my airport express running through my stereo in the past. However, i just encrypted, locked, secured, passworded (whatever you want to call it) my wireless connection. I no longer can connect to my airport express. I just get the amber blinking light. I know there is something I need to tweek, I am not sure what. My internet provider was no help. Any suggestions?

    vandy101, welcome to the discussions!
You will need to open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup to adjust some settings on the Express. Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons. Select the network that you want to join or extend and you should be asked to confirm the password, etc.
Basically, the Express must be setup with the same security, password, etc as the base station in order to connect to the network.

  • I have a WRT54GC, and our wireless connection to the x360 is lost anytime we turn off the PC.

I have a WRT54GC that is hooked properly to the cable modem (adelphia) according to all literature... but, our wireless connection to the x360 is lost anytime we turn off the PC, which shouldn't happen. The router is connected directly to the motor. modem. We can be on line on with the pc and x360 at the same time and we have the internet connection. But both connections will also free from time to time on us. The cable HSI was just installed and we are new to this. Any assistance would be great! I'm taking my laptop home this weekend to see if I can get on wireless with it. Also (sorry) all the lights are working as they should according to the router software, but when I put the cd in ran the wizard, it tells me it can't find the router connected to my pc. I'm going batty with this. Thanks.
    MC

Hi ... Mac address cloning is enabled on my router - so I guess that could be a problem, and the filmware version is 1.02.5 - we just installed this thing and haven't done any type of upgrades.
A little history - adelphia didn't connect properly - turning off the pc killed the wireless router connection and then if I hooked right into the cable modem from the pc, I didn't get a connection. So, we unplugged everything and started out fresh following the install wizard and the pc now sees the router. After that, my laptop didn't lose it's connection when the pc was shut down either. So ... the xbox was next. It seems that when we have the WEP enabled, the xbox 360 can not connect to xbox live. We did a media test first it passes the connection to the wireless network and takes the WEP key, but it fails when looking for the IP address. All DHCD information is enabled. So, we disabled the WEP and ran the console test - and it passed. We then did the media test and it obtained the IP address this time, but then failed the media connect (whatever the next test is). Not sure we actually need the media text or just the xbox live test.
I'd like to be able to use the WEP security, but we can't go live when it is enabled.
We are new to this, so appreciate any assistance!

  • 169.254.x.x and limited wireless connection

Hi, I'm having some problems with my wireless network. I have a WRT54G router set up and 2 computers that connect to it wirelessly. My new laptop with vista can connect to my router and works well. My pc with xpsp2 does connect to my router but it has an ip address of 169.254.213.2, 255.255.0.0 for subnetmask, and the default gateway is blank.
I set everything up to obtain automatic ip and dns info. I tried the repair icon on my task bar, but an error message comes up saying it couldn't renew the ip address. I tried ipconfig /release and /renew but renews with the same ips.
From my pc, I tried pinging around:
to my router (192.168.1.100) and it worked
to my laptop (192.168.1.101) request got timed out
to website (google.com) and it worked.
From my laptop, I tried pinging:
to my router (192.168.1.100) and it worked
to my pc (169.254.213.2) and it worked
to website (google.com) and it worked
So, I THINK my problem is with my linksys network adapter.
    I use a WRT54G router
My USB Network Adapter thats on my pc is a WUSB54G

Your PC with address 169.254.213.2 is not connecting wirelessly to your router.  This address indicates a failed connection, and it is generated by the PC itself.  If you were connected to the router, your address would be 192.168.1.x
The most likely cause is a computer software firewall problem.  Temporarily turn off your computer software firewall, and see if that helps.
If you still have trouble, do the following:
First of all, in the router, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. Delete your current network (this will remove any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  You should connect automatically (within 2 minutes).
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.

  • WRT54G V8 Slow as hell wireless connection

Im about to go on a killing spree because I cannot figure this out. I have a desktop connected to the router. The router to the modem. I can get on the internet fine with nice speeds on the desktop. When I connect wirelessly with my laptop it is slow as hell. Wont load anything than after 2 minutes it will load it all at once. I have no idea what the heck is going on. I've changed settings and changed them back in the router config. What could possible be causing this??????

I have exactly the same problem with my WRT54g V8 router. My Dell laptop takes forever to load web pages. My desktop "flies" when connected via ethernet but slows like the laptop when I connect wirelessly using a USB wireless adapter WUSB54G.
When I connect to my neighbors Netgear wireless, everything is very fast. When I use my old Microsoft wireless router, things are very fast. When I go back to the Linksys, SLOW SLOW SLOW!!!!!!!
I have updated the firmware to no avail. Changed channels and turned off all wireless security.....no change!!!
I am running Windows XP SP2 and using Comcast cable broadband.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • WRT54G v.6 loses wired/wireless connection after 2 hours

I have been trying for two weeks to get my router to maintain connection to both my wired and wireless computers.  It drops after 2 hours. It says it is connected but I can't get anywhere.   I have DSL with a static address.  I put the static IP on the router and have the router DHCPing to the others.  Have "live chatted" with Lynksys 4 different times with no luck.   Based on live-chat advice, I have updated the firmware to 1.01, and changed the MTU from 1500 to various other numbers with no positive results. Both computers drop at the same time.  If I take the router out of the loop and plug straight into the DSL modem, it stays up forever.  I run XP home on my wired computer and XP Pro on my wireless laptop.  I am at my wits end and would appreciate any help that you can offer.

It didn't like that either! I got to thinking about how it said that I was still connected but I couldn't get anywhere so  I called my ISP today and had them double check my connection.  The technician said that I was having abnormally high errors rates going out of my dsl (new, had it replaced recently) modem.  He had me reset the modem, then reset the router, update my DNS numbers.......same thing, about 2 hours later, DROP!  I have about decided that it is a problem between my dsl modem and router instead of my router and computers.  For one thing, I reset everything during my lunch break.  Back at work, right after lunch, I could ping my static IP on my router but, sure enough 2 hours later, I couldn't ping it despite my ISP saying I was connected. That leads me to believe my router doesn't like my modem or vice versa!  Any other suggestions?

  • 10.4.11 and secure wireless connectivity

Have G3 and emac running 10.4.11.  These are capable of "WPA personal".  I realize that significant progress in wireless security has supposedly been made, but it seems that newer routers (FIOS in my case) will not allow these older macs to connect even though I am willing to keep the WPA instead of WPA2 (which my newer macs are capable of).
Is there a way to do this or should I give up?
Also, since I use the 10.4.11 macs less than the newer ones, I don't see a lock next to a WPA personal network in the airport menu of the 10.4.11 macs, even though shows up as a WPA personal network in the network pref pane.  Is it safe to assume that the lock icon was not part of 10.4.11?
I have all the macs running now on an older FIOS router, but I need to upgrade the router. I have a newer (not the newest) FIOS router that I have been swapping in/out and just can't get the older macs to join on the newer router
    Thanks

You could get another wifi router to ethernet. Attach via ethernet to your new fios router.  Note to do printer sharing and/or file sharing. all devices need to be connected to the same router. Unless, you are a networking geek and buy more expensive hardware. You can get to the internet from any router.
