  • WRT54G V.6 - Swedish/Danish/Norwegian type Language in setup.... DRIVING ME NUTS!!!

I was wondering how I can fix this. My brother had this router and never had any problems... he's since lost the install cd and I've inherited the router which I'm attempting to set up with a D-Link 3420 Wireless G gaming router (Xbox 360 Live).
When I go in to configure it, everything is in a different language. I managed to flash it to the latest version and reset it, but still the same problems. Does anyone know how to remedy this? I'm also not sure what language this is either.. it might be Dutch.
    Thanks.

    Hi!
I have the same problem, I've solve that before, and need to do it right now but I need a language file that comes in the router installation CD which I lost , If you have the original CD-ROM for WRT54G V.6.0  I will thank you if you can send me the following file from the CD  ( :\language\en_lang.bin) that will make me very happy
Before you begin the updating process please put your router configuration cd-rom in your pc drive but don't use any autorun application and connect your pc to your router (wired)
    steps:
    1) log into your router, if your router IP address is 192.168.1.1  then type in your browser http://192.168.1.1/language.html
    you´ll get a Multilanguage page
    2) select the appropriate language, let's say english in the combo dropdown list
    3) click the "upgrade button" below the "langpack version" information
you´ll get a pop up window
    4) select "english"  in the "upgrade country" dropdown list
    5) in the "language file to upgrade" section, click the browse combo
a standard windows file select window will pop up
    6) if your cd-rom unit is identified with letter "D:" please look for the following file "D:\language\en_lang.bin"  (in not sure if the directory name is language or languageS) and select it
    7) click the buttom below that says something like "uppgradera"
...wait until the router  upgrades and reboots
    8) D O N E !
    IMPORTANT NOTES:
Don't execute this process via wireless, please connect your pc directly to the router with an appropriate UTP patch cord
Do not turn off, reboot your router or PC while the upgrading proccess is taking place,
Do not unplug your PC from the router while the proccess is running
If you are executing this process from a LAPTOP computer, be sure that is not running on battery or the battery is fully charged before starting the upgrade proccess
If you are executing this process from a LAPTOP computer, avoid it to turn into standby mode while the upgrade situation
any of the above conditions will interrupt the upgrade proccess with unpredictable results and a recovery proccess could be necessary, such proccesses are not so simple to be explain in a forum, so be careful
I hope this message would be useful for you.  And , if you have the file I asked you for, please send it to me via e.mail or a download server like rapidshare; Thanks in advance!
    Best regards

  • WRT54G Language and conecting problem.

I have router Linksys WRT54G version 7. When I installing my router first time everything worked OK. When I installing my routers in my parents DSL link, it doesnt work. I gave this error message Step 9: Sender Error while upgrading the router's language pack I find in this forum, I tried 192.168.1.1/language.htm to upgrade language from routers CD in directory Pack/en_lang.bin. It gave me white window with black border without any text or buttons. When I try to read web based menu, I see only graphics and numbers without any text. I cant change anything. In step 10 : Router configuration error. Would you like to try again? and Unable to connect the Router. Check the cable connection from the computer to the router. Cables are OK, because internet on main PC works fine, wirelles I cant configure, I doesnt see menus. I tryed RESET button, my firmare is last official 7.00.4. Sorry for my english.

Basically, your router's firmware has been corrupted. With the same reason, the configuration or setup page is corrupted as well. This means that you cannot do a firmware upgrade by using the router's setup page (The one that you usually access through 192.168.1.1).
To solve this problem, you may need to download a certain application that will help you in upgrading the router's firmware instead of using the router's setup page since in the first place, it is corrupted.
You need to download TFTP.exe (The application that upgrades the firmware of the router rather than using the setup page) and finally the Firmware file that is downloadable from the Linksys website.

  • German language on WRT54GS web interface

I purchased a used router on EBay. When I went to configure it. I found that language on the interface was German. It was running firmware 105.1. I downloaded firmware version WRT54GSV4_1.06.1_US_code.bin and installed it. It fixed my problem. I now have English on the web interface.

Nice. this is a common problem. so upgrading/reflashing the firmware from linksys US website would fix the problem.

  • WRT54G Language Pack Error

I received a language pack error while trying to up grade a brand new
Router. It works fine even have a wireless printer port working with it
on Charter Cable modem. Problem is I cant access the printer setting
page through the internet. It partially loads but you can't do anything with it.
    Is there a fix?

Might be I misunderstood you first. Sorry! If you are not able to see the setup page for this router properly, it can be an Issue with browser settings, Firewall or router’ firmware, So check the browser settings, delete all offline content, set the privacy and security to low and increase the size of temporary internet folder (from Internet Options). Disable all the firewalls and internet security software’s. If you need to upgrade the firmware on this router, as I mentioned earlier, you don’t need to login to the setup page. You can simply download the tftp.exe file and upload the firmware file through it.

  • WRT54G (v7) reboots when notebook connects

    Hey folks!
I really have a weired issue here...
My WRT54G (Version 7) was running just perfect for a couple of years already... I've bough a new Netbook recently and when this netbook connects to the router it takes about 10 seconds and the WRT54G reboots itself again and again.
You know, I really see a lot of PC problems, but this one just odd
Just like I said it was running perfect for years.
    I have two notebooks here:
    - My old one (ASUS X-52SA, running Win7 Ultimate)
    - and the new netbook: A Lenovo S10-3t, running Win7 Home premium.
When I'm working with the ASUS, everthing's fine. I've sent a "ping 192.268.1.1 -t" from it to the router and the WRT is responding well.
As soon as I connect the Lenovo to the WRT (not matter if I'm doing this via WiFi or LAN-cable!!!) the ping will show about 3 timeouts on the ASUS. The ping is OK then for another 7 seconds before it goes dead again. This goes on and on...
On the Router itself I can see that it's really rebooting then.
    - When the ping times out, the router really is rebooting (all LEDs are off, shorty after it all of 'em will flash for a short time).
    - And it's rebooting and rebooting and rebooting...
I really haven't seen this before in my whole career...
I though I would just update the Firmware and everything's will be fine - until I found out that the v7 cannot be upgraded somehow...
Does anyone of you guys have an idea what the reboot could cause?
(I'm sorry for my grammar - English is not my native language )
    Best regards,
    Michel

Check if you have static ip assigned on Lenovo computer.
If yes, then set it on “Obtain an IP automatically” to do so follow this link .
If it is already on “Obtain an IP automatically” then try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware of the router.
To do that first download the firmware from here and then follow the below mentioned steps
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Now login to the setup page of the router and check the firmware version of the router it should be updated.

  • Technical Newbie Need help linking 2 computers with WRT54G

Hi, Please excuse my non-technical language!
I have 2 PCs that I would like to connect together so that one can get files from the other and vice versa.
I have a broadband modem hooked up to a linksys wrt54g wireless router, and each computer is hooked up to the router with cables. I figured out how to configure it so that both computers can get on the internet and I haven't had any problems there.
This may sound dumb since I was able to get online using the router, but what I need some basic help with is how to connect the 2 computers to each other.
I read the information on the website and I'm sure this is possible, I just don't know what I need to download or change on the computers to make it happen.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

What operating systems do you have on your PC's?  There are a few ways to configure your network but largely depends on your operating systems you have.  Basically you can open the network wizard and set up the network on each PC or you can do it manually.  Depending on your OS go to your control panel and click on Network Connections or Network Setup Wizard .  If you use the network Wizard just go through the set up or you can click on Network Connections and on the left side there is a link to "Set up a home or small office network" if your OS is Windows XP.  Make sure both PC's are on the same workgroup and file and printer sharing is turned on.

  • WRT54G v6 Odd Problem

Hiya. I lurked these forums a bit and looked around but I did not really find my problem listed here. I will describe it as best as I could.
I was playing a game online when all of a sudden my Internet connection dropped. I looked at my modem, thinking perhaps my cable connection dropped (it WAS at about 4:00 (4:00 AM), and the cable company sometimes disconnects the service for a bit for maintenance or whatever. Hell if I know.
Anyways, my Internet connection was all lit up so I looked over to my router and the wired port #1 light was blinking. Not normal "activity" blinking, but blinking on and off very slowly, about once per second.
I have two computers hooked up to my router and did a little testing... I plugged in computer #2 into all four ports and the lights were just fine. I plugged Computer #1 into all four ports and there was a problem. When computer #1 was in ports 3 and 4, it worked fine. But when it was in ports 1 or 2, the light blinked in the fashion I just described.
I tried reinstalling the router, reinstalling my network card, and upgrading the firmware. Nothing worked. (I called tech support but my P.O.S. cell phone dropped the call. >: )
Nothing worked. I mean, I could get both computers working fine by plugging it in another port, but Hell if I was going to let this problem stick around.
Now I am a computer repair technician. I did every conceivable option aside from reinstalling Windows (it was basically a fresh install, I doubt that was the problem) and nothing worked.
As I was browsing the forums over here I noticed that my model, the WRT54G, has a lot of problems. Bah. Anyway, after about an hour total of the lil' blinky problem, it just stopped on its own.
I was just wondering if anyone knew what this was and if it happened to anyone else. Thanks.

The only thing that I believe that you can do is reinstall the correct firmware in the language that you want. Below is an firmware upgrade link.

  • Download WRT54G v6 CD copy.

    Hi ladies and gentlemen
I recently found that many people lost their WRT54G v6 CD copy(heard it works with v5 also, not sure.), so I decided to upload my own CD copy for you all in my spare time.
It's splited in 3 parts  (2 50Mb each, and the last one 16Mb), and after extracting it's 216Mb.
The files can be rejoined by using the famous program WinRAR(It's free and available in all languages). Just get it by googling it. The WRT54G v6.iso file is created after extracting and joining all the parts together
To burn the .ISO file to a CD you must have a ISO Burner, which you can find by searching it on google, yahoo, etc...
    Here are the download links...

    Part 2
    Part 3

  • WRT54G Troubleshooting

Here's what I expect of my router:
-Connect to a DSL modem (the modem itself stores the password, so I should not have to enter the password at the computer OR the router)
-WEP 128bit encryption key and MAC Address Filter to allow only my computers in should the encryption key be decrypted (we can ignore this, I already set this up myself and have all my computers connected, these settings are fine)
Here's how I originally had my settings for the DSL set (in the web-based settings):
-PPOE with my Verizon user-name and passoword entered in Here's what went wrong: -This worked perfectly for an entire year, then I bought a v8.2 (I was originally using a v6). I set it up the same way as my original v6, and it worked perfectly for a month. I then proceeded to upgrade my firmware (yes, I used Ethernet to do this), and the router worked fine for a few days; in fact, the performance was improved, but only just. Then suddenly, I had no Internet connectivity.
Here's what I have tried to troubleshoot:
-I reset the router with the reset button and reset the PPOE settings, still nothing. I then proceeded to bypass the router and connected my old laptop directly to the modem itself. My Internet connection worked perfectly without the router, so I proceeded to upgrade the firmware for the modem itself. When my Internet connection continued to work perfectly, I power-cycled the modem, shut off the router, connected it to the modem, and plugged the router back in only to find my Internet not working again via the router. I tried setting my router setting from PPOE to Autmatic Configuration-DHCP, and the router successfully picked up on my modem's DHCP server (the modem itself serves as a router, but I turned off it's wireless and bought the WRT54G because the modem absolutely [excuse the language] SUCKS as a router; however, the router still refuses to load any web pages that I request.
I am now stuck without a fully functioning [proper] router because 1) It is now past the 30 day return policy at the super market, and 2) My grandma now has my old router to use for wireless with her cable Internet. I am living off of the modem's horrible routing capabilities for now, but I'd like a true router, and until now, the WRT54G has been just that. Any help fixing this would be deeply appreciated.

Before doing the following steps, you have to connect the modem to the
router's Internet Port and the computer to the Ethernet Port Number 1.
    Step 01 : - Reset the router
    1. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
    2. Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for
    another 30 Seconds.
    3. Plug back the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button
    for 30 Seconds.
    4. Release the reset button.
Step 02 : To Configure the router for Wired Connection.
Please access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet
Explorer and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as “admin "" all in lower cases and then
    click on ok.
On the main setup page select the "Internet Connection Type"
as "PPPoE”. Then provide the username and password provided by your ISP
(Internet service provider) for your connection(Example:
[email protected])- Select the "Keep Alive" option and choose the
redial period as 30 sec" and then click on the Save Settings button.

  • Setup CD & language issue

Hi, I just got a WRT54G (V4) here in China and, strangely enough, the interface is in Chinese.
I've bought a few of these here and previously, it was in English. I didn't run the install CD, just hooked it up and accessed it.
My question is, what will the install CD do for me? It gives a choice of languages (English or Chinese). If I run the CD will it change the interface to English? Since I've already hooked it up I'm guessing that I'll have to reset the router before running the CD (I remembered where all the important settings where and was able to get it working via the Chinese interface, but really need the English).
The firmware is a bit old and I've downloaded a newer version from the U.S. web site. If I update the firmware with that can I avoid resetting and running the CD?
Guess I can play around w/ it but was hoping to get some feedback first.
Thanks in advance - JoeMessage Edited by bigjoe on 09-04-2006 03:13 AM
    Oh oh, in another pickle!

Yes if you upgrade the US firmware , you will be able to configure without the cd....do it manually by going into http://192.168.1.1

  • Slow initial association with WRT54GS w/WRE54G

I have 2 laptops and both are having problems with initial association with the WRT54GS and WRE54G.
I had some initial problems with the WRE54G but have fallen back to a default install with no security for troubleshooting.
However even with this default install, both laptops will do the initial attempt to associate with my SID, fail to acquire IP, and then grab an IP about 2 minutes or so after failure.
Does anyone have an idea as to what would cause this and how do I speed up the acquisition of a valid IP?
    Thanks,
    GimmeFive

I'm new here, too, and looking for solution to exact same problem. Starts at 54 mbps and then very quickly drops down to 11 then 2 then 1!  I've done no updates or changes since buying it.  I have V7.2.  My very old D-Link 524 worked better than this!  Sure hope someone has a solution. Keep in mind that I don't know what all the special language is, and since I work 60 hrs per week at 3 businesses, don't have time for much more than I'm doing.  So hope you explain VERY clearly what needs to be done if you have a solution.  Thanks so much for any help to any of us... : )

  • WRT54GS v6 firmware problems...

i just bought my WRT54GS v6 router today. i installed everything the way the directions told me to and everything was working fine until i i tried to install the latest firmware. While the firmware was installing, i got an error about not being able to unpacc language file and the installation stopped right before it was gonna hit 100%. so i shrugged and thought maybe i can try to install it again. well i run the file again and after i put in my password and clicc next so it can upgrade my firmware it now says it cant connect to my router. i can go to my router's webpage but i the firmware cant connect to it. well i shrugged that off knowin that i can upgrade it manually. so i got my routers page and this is how it looks like:

  • Trying to setup my Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router but having trouble.

Right, i will keep this nice and simple. I have had broadband internet for the past 10 days and yesterday i got myself a Linksys WRT54G Wireless router so both myself and my partner can connect our Macbook Pros up to the wireless internet.
But the problem is we cannot seem to connect onto the wireless network. It shows up when searching for internet connecting even when its is open without a password or with a password it does not want to connect?!?!
I can plug my laptop directly (as i am doing now) into the broadband modem and it works so i have no idea what is wrong? This afternoon we tried using a Windows Laptop and had the same problem. The wireless network shows up but when you enter the password that was entered on the 192.168.1.1 website it does not reconise it?!?!
If you can reply speaking English and not too much computer language that would be fantastic.
    Many thanks

Hi candn14 and welcome to the forums!
Since internet connection is working fine on the laptop computer when plugged directly into the modem, you just need to configure your router settings.
Are you using a DSL or Cable connection? Please see the links below on how to configure your router with your internet provider (ISP).
Setting-Up a Router with Cable Internet Service
Setting-Up a Router with DSL Internet Service
Once you are finished doing so and your laptop is able to connect to the internet when connected to the modem > router > laptop, then you are now ready to configure the wireless settings of the router for you to be able to connect wirelessly.
    Here are the steps:
Setting-Up the Wireless Settings on a Router
And please secure your network w/ a password.
Setting-Up Wireless Security on a Linksys Router
Please feel free to ask any questions again if you encounter any problems. Hope this helps.
