WRT54GS V.7.50.5 disconnect

I have a Dell Inspiron 531 AMD 5600 machine with wireless using the vista home premium operating system.  I am connected via WRT54GS with firmware 7.50.5.  I have a clearwire internect modem connecting into this router.  My problem is the router just dissappears at times.  The communication to the computer just dies.  I have a wireless printer so I know it is not the Dell wireless hardware.  I've tried reloading the Dell software and the Nvidia network software.  I've changed my wireless channel to 11.  I've reduced my fragmentation threshold and RTS theshold by 50.  Initially the upgrade worked wonderfully.  Since the recent Vista upgrades this past week I've had intermittent signal and usually within two hours my connection to the router disappears.  I could reset the router and its orignally configuration.  That is a lot of work updating, putting security back in place and configuring the family computers.  So do you have any recommendations that I haven't tried? Thanks.

I have a desk top model.  I can rebooted my machine and actually have gotten the internet back.  Unfortunately it just drops the connection and then when i try to re-connect to the internet it can't find the router.  The router just disappears.  I've reset the router and reconfigured it twice.  I still can print using my wireless printer.  Another computer only a few months older and a little less powerful operates fine.  I just don't understand why this one computer has a problem.  It is my main work computer at home so it has microsoft office 2007.  Plus several online games.  Other than those items they are pretty much the same configuration except I made sure the IP for the other one was different than my work computer.

    wrt54gs v1.1
my router have 4 lights on...
    POWER, WLAN, "1", INTERNET
    n from time to time....
They just go Solid and dont Blink....
then i check connection...my router is disconnected from the internet...
i've try connecting the wire to all those 3 other ports....but then same thing...
this only happen like this 2 months...just started....

observe the Power light; if it is blinking in intervals of time in that case it requires hard reset. If it still shows the same status upgrade the firmware from http://linksys.com/download ..... After upgrade again reset for 20-30 seconds & reconfigure the router.

  • WRT54GS with SpeedBooster random internet disconnects

Hi all I'm new to the forums,
I have an issue with the WRT54GS router i bought a few days ago, my 2 desktop computers are wired connected, where as my laptop, xbox 360 and wii are wireless.  Everything is connected correctly and the internet works, but at random times (from 10min - 1hr) the internet disconnects on me.  I had to turn off the router and turn it back on to get the internet back, then again at random times it disconnects on me again and i have to repeat the process over again.  Is there anyway to fix this? I've downloaded the latest firmware drivers from this site, V6 i think.  Plz help me! i want to play xbox live without this

Hi… Reduce the MTU on this router to 1365. If you have DSL and you have configured PPPoE connection then make sure that you have selected “Keep Alive” option. For Xbox you need to assign a static IP on it and forward the ports 88 and 3074 for its IP address.

  • WRT54G v6 keeps hanging and disconnecting

I used to connect to the internet by an ADSL modem router (PPoE mode) and use a hub to share the internet into my two computers that I have in my local network.
So, I bought three days ago a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54G v6). Then, I installed it and configured it. What you need to know is that I put my router modem to work in bridge mode, and I started to use the wireless router to connect to the internet and send the connection to the other computers. The problem is, since I have configured the router I have been experimenting an intermitent connection. I'm working and then the OS (Windows) shows a window saying that I have been disconnected from my local network. A few seconds later it shows another window saying that I can work again in the local network. But when I come back to the local network I don't have internet signal anymore. I have to wait some seconds or minutes to this signal come back. And when I enter in the router configuration, go to status and try to connect manually, the button doesn't work.
There are more additional information that you should know. This problem appeared since I have installed the router WRT54G v6 with firmware 1.00.7 and persisted when i upgraded the firmware to 1.00.9. And, i joined here and other assistents told me to change the MTU. I changed it to 1492, 1470, 1450, 1400, 1350, 1300 and the problem persisted. And when the signal of the network hangs, it hangs two times in a short period of time (5 minutes) .

    Just something to try...
=>Reset the router back to factory defaults
    =>Power off modem/router
=>Power on the modem (wait a minute)
    =>Power on the router
=>IF DSL AND PPoP Required - set it now
=>Test for internet connectivity (Google something) on wired connection
So long as the above is working...
    =>Reset your SSID and password
=>Set security to WEP (lowest common denominator) write down the HEX key
    =>Change channel to 11
    =>SAVE YOUR CHANGES
    =>Power off modem/router
=>Power on the modem (wait a minute)
    =>Power on the router
    =>Reboot your wireless device
=>Using proprietary or Windows Zero Cong Utility, do a Site Analysis
=>Make sure your SSID is there...
=>If possible, connect with Secure Easy Setup... If not:
=>Configure the wireless client as WEP with HEX key from above
I have set up many wireless networks in my neighborhood with the WRT54G and WRT54GS (FWIW - all have been cable ISPs). Complaints about dropped connections have always been resolved by changing channel to the upper end of channel spectrum. Bottom Line: There are too many 2.4 devices nearby playing havoc on your network...
    Good Luck!

  • WRT54GS / Vista Home Premium / Media disconnected Problem [NEED HELP]

Okay, I of course own the Linksys WRT54GS
My wife's HP laptop connects wirelessly runs Visa Home Premium and usually auto connects to the wireless network.
Our network shows it is available, excellent strength, when she clicks to join a network, it acts like it is going to connect then "Windows can not connect to network"
She tried to diagnose and repair to correct the problem in Vista and "Can not correct more than one problem at a time" This is strange because she is not trying to correct any other issue.
I had her connect using the ethernet cable and she is able to get online.
I own a Gateway laptop that runs XP Pro and I am able to connect to the router via wired or wireless with no problem.
I am also able to connect wirelessly with my iPod touch with no problem.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

Click start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center >> Manage Wireless Networks, here remove all the networks present and close the Window...
Click on Connect to a Network and try to re-connect to your Network, it should ask for your Network Key/Password, enter the correct password/network key and click Connect...
It should connect...Once you are connected you should restart the computer, it should connect to Internet...

  • WRT54GS Ver 6 XP/Vista disconnects

I'll do my best to explain the problem.
My wife and I have 2 laptops, 1 XP & 1 Vista. Whoever is online first, will be disconnected from the internet once the other connects. This will be felt as either a temporary disconnect (almost a hiccup) or will require a reboot in the case of the Vista machine.
It feels like they're trying to use the same info to connect, but I can't see how that's wrong.
    Any thoughts?

This may be due to an IP Address conflict...Try to upgrade the Router to the newest firmware...You can download the firmware from here , After downloading the Firmware Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: - Open
an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin file and click on "Upgrade"-Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for
    another 30 Seconds.
Plug the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button
    for 30 Seconds.
Release the reset button. Now re-configure your router...If you still loose the connection on the First Wireless PC/Laptop whenever the second Laptop is connected then you have to check the Wireless Network connection properties and assign static IP Address on the Wireless Computers...

  • WET54G to connect a WRT54G and WAP54G?

I currently live in western Uganda where we have set up a wireless network to share a satellite ISP connection (between houses separated by about 100 meters).
The system has been previously configured as follows (the ISP requires that we use their set of Static IPaddresses).
Our old system looked like this (and this wireless network has worked for us for about 5 years!)
    WAP54G (call it #1)
WAP54G  v.2  (call it #2)  - this one is connected to the satellite gateway via Ethernet 8-port Linksys switch
     WAP54G ( #1)
    IP Address  172.16.148.204
    Subnet 255.255.255.224
    Gateway   172.16.148.193
    Mode: AP
    Channel - 6
    SSID: CCRouter
    WAP54G (#2)
    IP address 172.16.148.199
    Subnet mask 255.255.255.255.224
    gateway 172.16.148.193
    Mode: Client
    channel 6
    SSID: CCRouter
The WAP54G #1 allowed us to disconnect the standard small rear antennas and connect large external parabolic antennas (via coaxial cables) which could be roof mounted and allow distant houses to catch the broadcasted wireless signal.
In a rainstorm, the WAP54G#1 died.
So, all we have now is a WRT54G which does not have disconnect-able rear antennas.  We do have , however, a WET54G Ethernet bridge.
The WET54G has a connector which will allow us to connect to a roof-mountable unidirectional rod antenna via coax cable.  The WET54G can connect to the WRT54G via Ethernet cable.
The current settings are as follows:
    1
     IP address 172.16.148.204
     Subnet 255.255.255.224
     Gateway 172.16.148.193
    Mode: AP
    Channel - 6
    SSID - CCRouter
    2
     IP Address: 172.16.148.199
     Subnet 255.255.255.224
    Gateway 172.16.148.193
    Mode: Client
    Channel 6
    SSID CCRouter
(connected to the satellite gateway via the Ethernet 8port switch)
    BRIDGE
    172.16.148.212
      255.255.255.255.224
    gateway 172.16.148.193
    channel 6
    SSID CCRouter
    Mode infrastructure
BUT THIS IS NOT WORKING.  The WRT54G (#1) can connect to the Internet (through the Client) when in CLOSE Range to the Client (WAP54G #2), but the Bridge does not seem connected to the Client WAP (the Ethernet light on the Bridge is constant indicating that the Ethernet connection is OK, but the Wireless light does not blink (no connection)..
    Thoughts?
    Thank you.

Are you able to go online when you connect the computer to the bridge directly...?
On which port you have connected the bridge to the router..? It should be on the Ethernet port.

  • What's happening here?

I’ve just set up a wireless connect between this computer and a laptop to share the internet and it seems as if I don’t even have to be using the broadband for it to be downloading e.g. I just tested it by opening a webpage then closing it, after I had closed that page I was still downloading at 4bps? It isn’t much but still if for no reason the usage goes up by 4 bps over a day that starts to sting. I even tried opening and closing a page, then turned the modem off and for over a minute it downloaded at this 4 bps, well that’s what was received on the Local Area Connection Status dialog box and when I turned the modem on again it started it again. But this isn't happening when I don't connect to the Linksys WRT54G e.g. if I disconnect the router from the modem and only use the ADSL2 modem to connect to the net it doesn't happen.
I have two Local Area Connection icons on the taskbar when this is happening. I’m running Windows XP and the L/T Vista; I have noticed that it doesn’t always happen. E.g. If I go into show all connections page and I only have the Local Area Connection icon showing, it’s not happening, but if I have the Local Area Connection and a Internet Gateway icon as well it’s doing it.
If anyone knows what’s going on here and has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers M-B

Thx for everyone that contributed to resolving this issue and to the same person who helped in the set up of the wireless connection, Oh yea that would be me!
In add and remove windows components unclick network service, which got rid of the gateway icon and stopped that downloading.

  • Failing to detect internet connection

Here is the deal... I'm running through the final potion of the setup to where it checks to see if there is an internet connection present. I have my modem connected to my router properly, everything is plugged in, but for some reason it says that there isn't an internet connection present. So I unplug the router from the computer, and connect my computer directly to the modem... and boom... I am connected to the internet with 0 problems... I have checked and rechecked all of the connections... everything is fine except for the internet.... it just won't detect it. Anyone have any ideas? edit: BTW the model number is WRT54G
Message Edited by peaches86 on 12-29-2007 12:33 AM

The problem that you are having is that your "modem" is actually a "modem-router" and it is using the same 192.168.1.x  address space as your Linksys.
The setup disk will not work.
To fix the problem, power down your entire system - modem, WRT54G, computers, printers, etc.
Disconnect the WRT54G from your modem and all other devices.
Using an ethernet wire, connect one computer to one of the numbered LAN ports (not the Internet port) on the WRT54G.
Power up the WRT54G and the computer.
Point your browser to 192.168.1.1  and login to your router.  If you have not changed them, the user name is blank and the password is "admin"  (with no quotes).
Change the "Local IP address" to 192.168.2.1
Click on the "Save Settings" button, then wait (3-60 seconds) for the screen to refresh.  You might be disconnected from the router at this point, if so, do not worry about it.
    Exit your browser.
Power down the WRT54G and computer.
Now, using an ethernet cable, wire the ethernet port on the modem to the Internet port on the WRT54G.  Leave the computer wired to a LAN port on the WRT54G.
Power up the modem and allow it to fully boot (1-5 minutes).
Power up the WRT54G and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    Power up your computer.
Test your Internet connection -  it should work.  Note that all your computers will now be using addresses of 192.168.2.x .

  • Disconnection from internet behind WRT54G V2.2

I have two computers at home with both access to WRT54G V2.2 wirelessly.
Since the first day i set up the router, both of my computers get disconnected from the internet from time to time. It is very irritating. The two computers are still connected to the router but no data is exchanged with the ISP,for example, both the computers usually will get disconnected from the MSN one after the other. Then, try to connect tp the MSN but it wont be possible. Everytime, i need to do troubleshooting on MSN and the DNS and Wireless part always fail. I will have to click the repair button to make sure that both DNS and Wireless become normal before i can connect to the MSN,as well as websites. Usually,if i dont do the troubleshooting in MSN, i dont know how long i will have to wait before i can access to websites.
    What should i do ??

1, 6 & 11 are the channels that the wireless router are using to transmit signals. try to check which of those three works best for your computers. and if that wont work, lower the beacon to 75, frag to 2306 & rts 2307 for starters. and if still that wont work, i recomend a firmware upgrade. ^__^

  • WRT54GS-Wireless devices either won't connect or disconnect when a game is launched

My old router went out last night, and I had a wrt54gs that was given to me a while back, so I hooked it up, but I am having some issues with it.
For a while it would say that it had no internet access, when it was connected. Then I couldn't get my wireless devices to connect (xbox, and cell phone) All I had done was change the name and the encryption to WEP.
I was able to get them online when I switched to WPA2 for a while. Then I decided to play a game (Tried Diablo 3 and Path of Exile)  Every time I loaded up the game, the devices would get kicked off. WHen I disconnected from the game, they would reconnect to the network. Until 1 time they didn't. Now my Xbox wont connect at all, and my phone keeps saying the network is not in range, when placed a foot from the router. I've tried disabling UPnP, but that doesn't do anything. I've turned MAC filtering, on and off. I've powercycled, and just get no good results.
I'm not sure if this is just a bad router, or whats, going on. (FYI my old router was a 10 yr old D-link that I never had problems with)

  • WRT54G v7 disconnections solved

    Hi,
I updated the firmware with this one and the disconnection and out of service problems went out.
The update was done from router Web admin panel and the configuration of precedent firmware (7.00.4) has been saved.
Now the problem is that Web page has been a bit screwed. A file (share.js) containing JavaScript is broke and some code of the page is not written. The page still have correct Spanish (I live in Spain) characters with all tildes and nothing of chines (that's why the Web of link is in chines ).
Maybe the problem is just the JavaScript file with incorrect code but i don't know how to solve this, since access to file is not an option (or it is???).
Well fortunately I think I could write a local page with frames to correct this... meanwhile my wifi router WRT54G v7 is still working without an issue (and with p2p softwares running all the times).

    Hi...
Try reseting and reconfiguring the router. Also set it up as keep alive specify the redial period. Change the MTU setting of the router to manual and specify the value as 1300. Also the PPPoE connection on the computer should be disabled when router is dialing.

  • WRT54G v6.0 Disconnects From Server After Ten Minutes

I posted this once before and somehow it got....deleted?
Anyway....here we go again. I purchased A WRT54G over the holidays. It has worked fine for me with the exception of a real estate data source (server) that I need to use for my business. I can log on and start doing my analysis just fine, but when when the ten minute mark hit....the router disconnects me. It's EXACTLY ten minutes...everytime. I've spent the better part of 20 hours on the phone with Liksys Tech Support and they have been very helpfull, but unable to help me fix this issue. They sent me a new router to replace the one I bought thinking that there was something wrong with that router. After installing the router they sent me....same problem. We opened ports, reduced the MTU to 1375, disabled security, ect... with no luck. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Actually try this...
Connect wired to your ISP provider cable/dsl modem  and release/renew dhcp lease...
IP address is then assigned based on MAC address of that computer
    IPCONFIG to check assigned address
Re-connect wireless router and in settings duplicate the mac address of the PC used above.
Release/renew dhcp on router and check status on router settings pages
assigned IP should be same or in relative range.
Why this may be occuring....     At least what leads to the above suggestion:
ISP providers in the mid-west region around me started assignment of Router based MAC addressing to monitored and limited bandwidth servers - IP assigned would renew into those servers as the MAC address from a router was a clear indication of mutiple PC use and bandwidth consumption.
Duplication of a desktop or wired network card on your PC into the router defused this by detection your MAC appears to be a single PC and the ISP assigns the address to standard server loads.
Try it see if this helps - keep in mind most of these hardware manufacturers use base hardware from common pools of sub-suppliers - I believe you will have just as much issue with a netgear unit.
    Daak

  • WRT54G V8 randomly disconnects/"powers off"

Well, I'm having an issue here. I got a WRT54G V8 two days ago, so it's brand new. Anyway, I have this problem where the router randomly "powers off". By that, I mean that the power LED (orange light) goes off for a few seconds, then comes back on. The other lights stay on. When this happens, everything will get disconnected from the internet - my computer, my Wii, etc. However, everything go back to normal quickly after. I also had to disconnect/reconnect it once because nothing would be able to connect on the internet anymore, and the Linksys EasyLink software seemed to be convinced that I changed the router. After that happened, I decided to upgrade it to the latest firmware version. While this last problem didn't happen ever since, the power led still goes off randomly and I still get disconnected from the internet. Other than that, everything works like a charm and XP never gives me any network errors or anything of the sort. It's just that this issue is quite annoying when you're gaming and makes me wonder if I bought a defective one...
    Any help?
Oh, and in case you need more information... the computer has a wired connection to it, as my PS2, my Wii uses a wireless connection, and so does my DS when I use it. When the power light goes off, everything gets disconnected, wired or not. Also, I'm on a cable internet connection, the modem is a Motorola SURFboard SB5100.
Message Edited by Kelmster on 02-07-2008 12:45 PM

Okay, now I'm getting quite a bit annoyed. The problem keeps coming back randomly. Sometimes, it'll happen once or twice in a day and fixes itself quickly. But other times, like today, I feel like throwing it out of the window. Plus, I've been reading a lot of topics in here, and a lot of people seem to have the same issue as me. The orange light doesn't go off anymore, but the internet connection is being dropped randomly with no warnings, and the internet light does stay on. Power is not flashing, everything seems well when I look at the router. When the internet goes off, I can still access the router. I tried pretty much everything I saw in here, from disconnecting it and the modem for like a half hour to changing the IPs (gave everything on my network a static IP, even tried changing the router's IP), but that only fixes it for a couple of minutes, then bam, the problem comes back. Also did a factory reset, and yes the firmware is updated, but sadly, the problem is still there. It was there from day 1 and it won't go away.  I have no idea if it has to do with my Wii accessing the internet wirelessly while it's on WiiConnect24 (it connects randomly to check for updates). It would make sense if it did that everytime, but sometimes I play online on the Wii and the internet connection still works on my wired PC.
Seriously, is there anyone with a clue? I'm seriously thinking of returning it. I bought it to replace a noisy no-name wired router that seemed to like to make me mad. However, the Linksys one is giving me MORE problems! Is this a firmware or hardware issue here? Because I see a lot of people with the same issue, which makes me wonder if exchanging it for another one will actually change anything! I usually figure out problems by myself, but I have to say that this one has me clueless here. And, so far, in many, if not all, the cases where I was clueless about a problem, it was because of faulty hardware/software. The no-name router never dropped connections, and yet I always feared that it would explode in my face. But seriously, this is getting ridiculous. At this point, I actually wish that the problem is something stupid I forgot about, some setting that's hiding from me and that I have to activate/deactivate... I just wonder if exchanging it will fix the problem here.
Is there anyone who actually managed to fix that issue? If so, how did you do it? If you didn't, post here too, we need to make Linksys aware of that issue. Disconnecting the power every half hour or so is not a good solution. I hope it's just a firmware issue that could be fixed soon...
