WRT54GS V4.0 Laptop Connects But can't access internet unless I am in DMZ mode.
This is recent. I've changed no settings or otherwise done anything to block access, but I've had this problem 2 times now, and I'm beginning to think the router is crapping out on me.
Here's why I know it is not the laptop Wifi that is the problem... When I am connected to the router, I CAN access the router administration pages, but I can't access anything on the internet itself unless the modem is in DMZ mode(I have to put it into DMZ mode and then power cycle the router). If the modem is in DMZ mode, I have no problems.
This only happens with the Wireless connection. On my desktop I have no such problems either way.
I have been using this router since January of this year and have not had any issues until recently when I would occasionally have to reset the laptop's connection to this router, and now this issue.
Note: after it happened the first time, I took my laptop over to the in-laws house and I had no issues for the entire day that I was using the laptop. I come back here to my router and start having issues again.
P.S. I use Ethereal (wireless security monitor) to determine what channels others are using within my range and have set mine to different channels that do not conflict with others, but still no change.

Hi.. What are the DNS serves that are assign to your laptop when you have this issue? Are they public or private? Are you able to ping to any of these DNS server?
You should have public DNS server assign to your laptop. and you should be able to ping to that DNS server to make sure that you have internet connection. If you dont have public dns server, try to ping to 4.2.2.2 (a very common dns server) if you are able to ping to this, then assign this dns to your laptop. you should be online.
Also try to upgrade the firmware on the router.

Windows 7 Won't work with GT704WGB - Connects, but can't access internet or ping router
Upgraded my Verizon DSL.
I replaced an old WireStream DLS router and NetGear wireless access/router with Verizon's GT704WGB.
After I replaced it, Wireless connections from Windows 7 no longer work.
Help. Any ideas?
1. The GT704WGB installation seemed to be easy and successful.
2. I have 3 devices and 4 operating systems
a. An iPhone - It connects to my wireless network and works fine.
b. An Acer lap-top running Windows XP service pack 2 - It connects to my wireless network and works find.
c. An Hp Pavilion lap-top running Ubuntu Linux
i. It connects to router via cable and works fine.
ii. It connects to router wirelessly and works fin.
d. The same Hp Pavilion when booted to Windows 7 doesn't work wirelessly. :-(
i. It connects via cable to router and works fine
ii. When I disconnect cable and connect wirelessly IT DOESN'T WORK. :-(
What happens is Windows reports the the wireless adapter has connected to the network, but says it is NOT CONNECTED TO INTERNET. Further I can't ping the router, 192.168.1.1. I have checked the IP4 properties and settings for the adapter. They seem
fine.
1. Adapter has an address on the network.
2. DHCP is enabled.
3. Gateway is provided automatically by DHCP
4. DNS is provided automatically by DHCP.
Pinging router gets no response. Attempting to resolve a name, www.google.com reports unable to resolve name.
All of this works perfectly when directly cabled to router.
Any help with how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Solved my own problem. Sorry for the spam. :-)
Windows does not support multiple gateways. I had foregotten I had a 2nd wireless access point/router plugged into the network (Cisco/Linksys E1000). That router had been working fine in combination with old SpeedStream DSL router from Verizon, but apparently it introduced a second gateway address which was in conflict with GT704WGB.
Solution:
1. Unplug Cisco E1000. Reset it to factory settings by pushing red button.
2. Plug Cisco E1000 back into network.
3. Use Cisco CD and setup.exe to "install" E1000.
4. Use Cisco CD and Cisco Connect to reconfigure E1000.
5. Done.

IPhone 5s can connect to wireless WIFI router but can not access internet.
iPhone 5s can connect to wireless WIFI router but can not access internet at work. The admin says the router lets my iPhone connect to LAN, but the iPhone does not have server IP to access the internet. I entered the server IP and port number in the HTTP PROXY fields but I still can not access the web. Any ideas?
TIA
RichYou IT person should be able to sort this out. But, they seems to be too busy or disinterested to do this. Suggest you provide the it person with an iPhone to get interested.
Any could be lots of things.
The best you can do is to get access to the admin setup for networking on a pc? The internet settings are all the same. Only what names the manufactures change from OS to OS. Check and compare parameters.
Phone works to internet at home, I assume? -
I have just bought a iPad 2 WI-FI 16G today. I have a full WI-FI connection but can't access the App store or Safari for any webpages, can anyone help?
Thanks!!!!Despite what you call, "a full WiFi connection", you may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid local network IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power to the router for 30 seconds and then restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc. -

Connected to wifi but can't access internet
My MacBook connects to the internet through wifi, but ipod, iphone and ipad only connect. Even though the bars are there indicating connection, I can't access the internet on any of the 3 devices. When I reset the router it the devices can access the Internet for a while, but then i lose access again. Hmmm?
We got our son's working yesterday. It didn't dawn on me until many hours later that I kept giving the router password instead of the Hex key for the I-touch password Entry. We had to supply the Hex Key. We use WEP as a security mode and both password and Hex key are in Hexidecimal format. I hope this helps you and saves you many hours of headaches.

WRT54G v6 - Can Connect to wireless network but can't access internet
Ok, this is my last resort for help. I spent two hours yesterday with linksys "chat" support to no avail.
First the techincal details:
OS for all machines = Windows XP
Laptop w/two adapters - one wired, one wireless
WRT54G v6 upgraded with 1.00.9 firmware
SpeedStream modem from DSL provider
I have manually set the IP, subnet mask, gateway, primary and secondary DNS for my wireless adapter (using the Alternate Configuration in the Internet Protocol Properties of the Wireless Network Connection). When I connect to the wireless network I see that the IP, subnet, gateway and DNS server IPs are all correct (via ipconfig /all). I see that I am connected to my SSID (11.0 MBps, signal strength Excellent) however I can't access web sites (the server not found message appears in the browser) nor can I ping the router IP or any other IP (LAN or WAN).
My wired PC works fine with this router. My laptop works fine with this router when wired.
Anyone face a similar situation and have a solution? Thanks.A new discovery...
When I disable the wireless security on the router, I am able to connect to the wireless network, ping the router and access the internet. So, there is apparently something wrong with the WEP security (although I am able to connect to the wireless network when WEP is enabled).
I am thouroughly confused. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. -
Can connect to router but can't access internet on some devices
Hello everyone,
I'm fairly good with comptuers / networking but this issue has me baffled. Help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a linksys router (WRK54G) and have 2 desktops and 2 laptops connected to it wirelessly at the moment. I bought 3 smart phones (AT&T Tilts) and a new laptop recently. I don't use encryption but I do have MAC address filtering enabled.
The issue is that 1 of the smart phones can connect to the network and the internet, but the other 2 phones and the laptop can connect to the network but not the internet.
I did add their MAC addresses to the "allow" list ofcourse, which is why they're able to connect to the internet. DHCP is enabled, and these devices get an IP address. I can see them as connected when i log in to my router as well through one of my other computers (I see the MAC address and the IP assigned to those devices) so I know they're properly connected to the network. However, when i try to pull up a website (using either its ip or its domain name), the devices try to open up the page but eventually give me a "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost" on the pocket PCs, and a generic "page cannot be found" on the laptop. I don't see these requests in the outgoing log table of the router either... I'm supposed to see them as when i use one of my desktops, I can see which site was accessed by which IP.
So basically, the requests from 2 smart phones and 1 laptop aren't even getting to the router apparently. What could be wrong? These devices can access the internet on other routers elsewhere at my workplace or at wi-fi spots.. just not at home, which is a major inconvenience. Why would the router be stopping some devices from connecting to the internet and allowing others? I know it's not a setting in the devices as it can access the internet through other wi-fi spots elsewhere..
Help will be truly appreciated.Hi, I'm just getting up to speed on wireless but here's some info. Don't have a clue for your phones tho.
If you can connect to your network and talk to each other but can't connect to the internet, then it's an "Authorization" problem. I'ts not a Router "hardware" problem because your other equipment can connect to the internet (modem). It's not a Wireless card "hardware" problem on your laptop because you can connect to your network (router).
You say the Router sees the laptop/phones IP#'s but, do you see the IP#'s ON the computer/phones that can't get online? The Router sees them but do they see the Router?
The computers can talk to each other because your using the "Switched hub"(and wireless) part of the Router. I't doesnt do any translating, it just tells computer 1 that computer 2 want's to talk to it.
Is the Shared Key enabled on one and not the others?(Router menu)
If you can connect at work but not at home then again it's an Authorization problem. You have the right password, setup, etc, for work but not at home. "Hotspots" have no encryption so any one can connect. Do you have the home Router set up as WEP and and Work as WPA? Does your other laptop connect at work also? Do you have a mixed B,G,N band system at home. The Router has to be set at the band your using or have it set for mixed. If it's set for "G" only then any items that have B"or"N" won't be able to talk to it. If i go to a wireless motel thats next to a truck stop and a wireless Cafe, i can "SEE" a good half dozen "networks". I can even connect to a few of them, but, i can't get online because i don't have the password, etc..
Well one more kinda, sorta, possibility, did you lower the "Maximum number of DHCP Users" count to 4 (Router menu) and forget to raise it to 8 or what ever you have now? If you only had 3 computers on, then the Router would only hand out one more IP# so the other phones and laptop wouldn't get any more. It's defaulted to like, 20+ or so, so probably unlikely.
The First phone seems to be the magic bullet. My only suggestion would be to double check the settings and compare everything. You have got to be close.
I hope this get's you nearer,, -
New PC laptop - can get on Airport Network but can't access internet
Just got a new HP laptop for real estate reasons (MLS is only available through a PC).
All of my other computers are Macs and my wireless network is on a Airport Basestation.
I can access the network with the PC but can't get on the internet even though I'm on the network.
Anyone have any ideas?Ok, you have a completely different situation than that of the Originator of this post. In your case, you're using your Mac as a software base station and not a wireless router.
The following would be the setup steps...
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
Enable Software Firewall
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
- Click Stop to start the software firewall
Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] Mac > (wireless) > PC
Setup Port Order
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
- Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
- Verify that "Built-In Ethernet" is at the top of the list, followed by "AirPort".
- Click "Apply Now."
Configure the Internet Connection
System Preferences > Network > Show > Built-In Ethernet > TCP/IP
- Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
- Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
Enable Internet Sharing
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
- Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
- To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
- AirPort Options
-- Network Name: <anything you want>
-- Channel: Automatic
-- Enable encryption (using WEP) (optional)
-- Password: (optional)
-- Confirm Password: (optional)
-- WEP Key Length: (optional)
-- Click OK

ASA 5505 IPSEC VPN connected but can't access to LAN
ASA : 8.2.5
ASDM: 6.4.5
LAN: 10.1.0.0/22
VPN Pool: 172.16.10.0/24
Hi, we purcahsed a new ASA 5505 and try to setup IPSEC VPN via ASDM; i just simply run the Wizards, setup vpnpool, split tunnelling, etc.
I can connect to the ASA by using cisco VPN client and internet works fine on the local PC, but it cannot access to the LAN (can't ping. can't remote desktop). I tried the same thing on our Production ASA(those have both Remote VPN and Site-to-site VPN working), the new profile i created worked fine.
Below is my configure, do I mis-configure anything?

: endI change a Machine's gateway to this ASA and capture again, now we can see some reply.
All ohter PCs and switches gateway are point to another ASA, maybe that's the reason why i didn't work?
what's the recommanded way to make our LAN to have two 2 gateways(for load balance or backup router, etc)?
add two gateways to all PCs and swtichwes?

I am a college student who went to college and used an apple airport base station for my mbp and everything worked fine, and before i went to school i used my parents linksys wireless router and it all worked fine. i came home from college today and used the internet (over the linksys router) for about 5 minutes, then came back a few hours later. after i came back my computer said i was connected via airport to the linksys router but i cant load any page at all with any internet browser, also aim and msn messenger wont work. when i get on the internet i get this message "safari can’t open the page “http://www.yahoo.com/”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message." i can connect if i plug my mbp in and i have tried the network diagnostics for airport several times, and it comes back saying that i am connected and it is all working fine, but its not. any help would be great. thanks.
I have the same problem...New MacBook Pro connects fine to Airport at home. Shows connected to WPA network at work but no Internet connectivity - or it takes a VERY long time to pull anything up. Have run the Network Diagnostics successfully and Mac thinks it is connected, but still not able to reach web sites.
Have followed instructions here: Article ID: 106799 Mac OS: Long Delay Before Web Pages Start to Load, Then Load Suddenly at Normal Speed without success. Can hardwire my MacBook Pro and use the network in this way.
I am a network admin and I set-up the wireless so I am familiar with the details, but am truly baffled why my Mac will not connect to the Internet. -
IPhone connects to secured WiFi network, but can't access Internet
Problem: iPhone connects to my secured home WiFi network, shows WiFi strength bars at top of screen, displays checkmark, lock, power, and blue arrow on WiFi Networks screen; however, cannot access Internet, iTunes store, stocks, Weather or anything else.
Tests I've run:
1. iPhone itself:
---DCHP:
IP Address = 192.168.2.102 (within range automatically allocated by LinkSys router--see below)
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 (as per LinkSys router)
Router = 192.168.2.1 (as per LinkSys router)
DNS = 192.168.2.1 (confirmed by Apple as a valid DNS address given the above information)
Tests:
*Forget Network and rejoin--Failed to connect to Internet
*Forget Network, reboot iPhone, and rejoin--Failed to connect to Internet
*Reset Netowrk Settings and rejoin--Failed to connect to Internet
*Reset All Settings and rejoin--Failed to connect to Internet
*Deleted DNS entry--Failed to connect to Internet
*Connect to Apple Store unsecured network--Success
*Complete reset of iPhone at Apple Store:
**Brought home, made no calls, did not sync with iTunes, did not reenter any info deleted by complete reset, joined network--Failed to connect to Internet
**Synced data previously saved to iTunes, rejoined network--Failed to connect to Internet
2. LinkSys router WRT310N:
Tests:
*Updated Router firmware--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
*Entered a Static IP address on both router and iPhone--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
*Reserved an IP within range automatically allocated by LinkSys router--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
*Reserved an IP outside range automatically allocated by LinkSys router--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
*Forced MAC filtering to use iPhone WiFi Address--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
*Disabled all MAC filtering--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
*Changed security settings:
**No Security--Success
**WAP Personal (AES)--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
**WAP Personal 2 (auto selection AES or TKIP)--iPhone failed to connect to Internet

*Set router to Wireless G Only Network Mode--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
*Changed Router IP address from 198.168.2.1 to 198.168.1.1 (LinkSys default)--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
3. Microsoft router MN-500:
Tried this old router (the one I used before purchasing the LinkSys). It is an old (circa 2002) Wireless B base station with WEP Security. The iPhone was never able to connect to the Internet using various settings, many of which were duplicates of the LinkSys tests above.
On both routers my wife's Dell laptop and my HP printer connect without incident, using the same network/security settings.
I have always been able to connect to various unsecured WiFi networks; I have never been able to connect to a secure WiFi network (although the only one I've really tried has been my own).
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions?SUCCESS!!!!!
I visited my brother-in-law yesterday and attempted to connect with his secure network. By sheer luck, he is using the exact same model LinkSys router. My iPhone connected first time--so the iPhone was eliminated as a source of the problem.
I didn't do a lot of troubleshooting at his house, but I did notice that his network was set for both dynamic DHCP and dynamic DNS. I know that either or both of Windstream (my ISP) and my broadband modem requires a pair of static DNS addresses.
Sure enough, delving real deep into Windstream's support site, I discovered a LinkSys router DNS help page, specifying how to set static DNS addresses in LinkSys routers. I then accessed my router, enterd the known static addresses, saved the router settings, then rebooted the iPhone and connected to the network.
SUCCESS!!!
Thanks to Jane, who suggested it was an ISP issue, Jason, and all at Apple support. dumonj, I'll email you directly. Try this suggestion and see if it helps. -
I'm showing a strong wi-fi connection but can't access web?
I have a strong WI-FI connection but when I go to access a website it won't open?Any suggestions to fix problem would be appreciated. I've already tried the reset network settings route but that only worked temporarily.
You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart).

Airport Off, but can still access Internet?
How is it that my Airport is supposedly OFF, yes I can still access the Internet.
This may seem like a stupid question, but I need to toggle off and on, because I am setting up a print server (or atleast attempting to), and I can't access it with it's IP address when the airport is on.
Anybody have any advice with perhaps setting up the Netgear Wgps606 print server?
I was able to print through it, but only because the server is connected directly to my computer via internet. My goal is to be able to print wirelessly.I think I need to start over.
Basically, I bought the Netgear WGPS606 inorder to set up two printers to print wirelessly.
I called Netgear and they informed me that one of my printers (Epson CX5800F) is NOT compatible with Wireless printing (although I was able to print with the server connected directly to my computer).
They also told me that I have to call Apple and have them help me to open up a port for that printer.
Anyhow, I have a wireless router (Belkin N1 Wireless Router).
How can I access the server without having to plug it in to my computer?
When my AIrport is ON, I cannot access the printer server, and now even when I turn it off, I still cannot.
I think that I am just going to return this thing. Any suggestions of Print Servers that DO work with apple (are affordable) and perhaps even wireless?
