Wrt54gs v5 and softphone

I had a heck of a time getting the xlite to work with this router (wrt54gs) back when I got the phone.  I got some good info on triggering that helped a lot and fixed my original connectivity issues with the phone.  Recently another issue (or maybe a similar one) has come up.
The phone will load and operate great initially.  when it sits for awhile (some days a little as 20 minutes) it seems to disconnect, sort of.   what I mean is that it reads connected, but it isn't sending or receiving.  It never happens if I bypass the router and come straight off the modem.
When it happens, if I pull the power for a few seconds and repower it, the phone will be fine again for about 15-20 minutes.   It never happens when I'm actually using the phone, only when it's in "standby".  When it happens my browsers are working fine, so it's not a complete shutdown of the router or anything like that.
I've had a similar thing with my comp itself.  Once or twice a month (I 'm on this one at least three or four times a day) when I open the browser it times out.  The connection reads fine, but it's not really working.  I cycle the power on the router and it's fine again.
The fact that it also happens with the browser (after the comp isnt used for several hours) sometimes and that the power cycling clears it up immediately for both situations seems to point to the router.
I am still using the original firmware.  I haven't upgraded it because unless it's going to affect this issue, I'd rather not change what's working.
I have also deleted and reinstalled both the browser and the phone, just in case I got a dicked up download.
It's not a fatal error thing.  More of an inconvenience.  Just looking for some thoughts on whether or not I'm on the right track or what else I should be looking at.

I would suggest you to upgrade the router's firmware and re-configure the router from scratch..You can download the firmware from www.linksys.com/downloads...On the router setup page,Click on the Administration tab to upgrade the firmware.
After upgrading the firmware, reset the router, power cycle it and re-configure the router from scratch.

  • Dear All, I have currently buy a WRT54G router and would...

Dear All, I have currently buy a WRT54G router and would like to set it up remote desktop so that i can access the office system from my home. But after looking at the Port Forwarding in the Linksys,i do not know how to set as Linksys can only accept IP address start from 192.168.xxx.xxx while my house Prolink router is configure with IP address 10.0.xxx.xxx. The difference in IP address has make me confuse on to how should i go ahead with the settings. Hopefully anyone can help. Thanks a lot JQ

The WRT54G is connected to subnets: one on the internet port and one on the LAN side with the numbered ports and the wireless.
The LAN side uses 192.168.1.* by default. The router uses 192.168.1.1 on this side. This side is where you connect your computers. The connected computers can get addresses by the DHCP server on the WRT. The default address pool of the DHCP server is 192.168.1.100-149.
The internet/WAN port subnet is whatever the next router or your ISP has defined. The router gets a IP address assigned on this side, usually it is the public IP address provided by your ISP if the router is connected directly to the internet. If there is another router then the address of the WRT on the internet/WAN port is usually assigned by this router.
Port forwarding forwards a specific port number on the WAN IP address to a specific computer inside your LAN. Therefore the destination IP address of the router is always the LAN subnet 192.168.1.* as that is the subnet which is used on the LAN side.
If the internet/WAN port IP address of the router is not a public IP address, i.e. if there is another router which uses private addresses 10.0.*.* then you have to configure additional port forwarding on that router.
Remember that the destination of the port forwarding should always be a static IP address and not a DHCP assigned. The latter can change over time. Therefore the computer to which you forward the port should have a fixed static IP address configured on the computer.

  • Wrt54GS router and Wrt54GS wireless adapter on Xbox 360

Totally new in the wireless router business, I bought the Wrt54GS router and the Wrt54GS adapter to connect my Xbox 360.
I installed the router with the cd and connected my pc on the router with a fixed ethernet cable.
    So far everything working fine.
Then connected the wireless adapter on the Xbox 360, but it seems like the Xbox 360 doesn't recognise the Wrt54GS adapter.
    What did i do wrong?
    Sebastian

Do you have wireless PC's ? are they able to go online ?
enable network security and also change the beacon to 50 and the RTS and fragmentation threshold by 40 each under the advanced wireless settings.

  • Ok i need lots of help here... i have a WRT54G router and...

ok i need lots of help here... i have a WRT54G router and trying to hard wire a computer to it and wirelessly connect to a laptop... i have dsl internet connection... the power light is blinking constintly and when i try to setup the router the default password doesnt work already tried to reset the router and that didnt help... any thoughts> thanks

the power led blinking all the time can be caused by a corrupt firmware, or a defective power adapter,  try doing a hard reset, you may need to do it a couple of times, and then power down both the modem and router.
after a couple minutes, power up the modem, wait for the link led lights up, then power up the router and look for it to link up with the modem, at this time the power led on the router should be on solid if all is ok.
if it still don't light solid, you may need to do a firmware update, or the router is defective.

  • I am trying to conect a wrv200 to a WRT54GS v4 and use the WRT54GS as a repeater?

i am trying to connect a wrv200 v1 to a WRT54GS v4 and use the WRT54GS as a repeater? Can this be done i have latest firmware in both.

you cannot use router as a repeater... router has only AP mode it will broadcast the signals but it will not repeate wireless signals.

  • WRT54G V7 and SSID broadcast disable

have problems connect to the router when ssid broadcast is diablet. I can see the "network", enter the SSID and wep-key, but it will not connect.. If I select to broadcast my SSID I can easily connect to the router.. Strange, anyone who have the same problem ? I also have a wrt54g v1, and this router do not have these problems..With this you can easily connect to the router when ssid broacast is disablet..

I've used Intel PRO 2200GB ver 9.x and earlier version of 10 (driver + management software) to connect to a hidden SSID wireless network without any problem. I manually created a profile for the hidden network and connect to that profile.
On an unrelated note, I've enable SSID broadcast after reading a few articles about it being nothing but trouble. Here's one.

  • ISA550 Series and Softphones

    All,
I have a ISA570 appliance installed with a combination of Physical VOIP handsets and softphones.
We run a call center so we have wo different VOIP providers, redundant WAN, etc.
Primary VOIP Provider (Physical and Soft Phones) - All working order
Backup VOIP Provider (Softphones only) - Works, but painfully slow
According to the Provider, they see the phones try to register and all seems well, however when a call is placed to or from a softphone, it takes approximately 30 seconds to connect.
Hooked softphone laptop direct to other ISP router and all works fine.
So, it is in the ISA570
Created a VLAN to make it easier to work.
Created rules for WAN -> VLAN of VOIP
Created rules for VLAN of VOIP -> WAN
    Same issue.
Provider says not to use ALG SIP.
    Any thoughts?
    Brandon

Yes, all of the devices use the primary WAN1.
    1.  We use company A and with them have physical phones and laptop softphones that all work fine.
The physical phones run through one switch and are all on a vlan together.
The laptop softphones run on our standard vlan (since they are in the computers) and all work fine.
There has been no special setup for either.
    2. We use company B and with them only have softphones on the same exact laptops as Company A.
The softphones are using the same softphone program on the same laptops as Company A.
They do work, only they take 30 seconds to register (and sometimes wont register) and 30 seconds to connect a call.  As you can imagine we do not think this is a going to be a good backup option but the company insist that their product is fine and it is just our configuration in our ISA.  And I tend to agree as it works, just super slow like the ISA is not happy with some request, but then ultimately agrees to let the traffic through.
Indeed, we connected to a third, independent DSL connection here at the office (that is in no way connected to the ISA or our network) and it connected and made calls immediately.  So, we do think it must be some policy I have not configured correctly.
In reference to the the separate VLAN.  I made a VLAN called VOCAL for a laptop to be connected to so that as I made changes to that VLAN/ZONE I could not mess up daily activities of the office.
I have not yet configured and QOS.

  • WRT54G Router and VOIP/Softphone

I am having trouble using X-lite (softphone) with my WRT54G.  I just recently signed up for VOIP with Voip your Life and am using their X-lite software to start making phone calls.  The softphone works perfectly when my computer is hooked directly up to my modem, but when I run the modem into the router, and the router to my computer, it does not work.  So obviously there is a problem with the router, and the software is configured just fine.  I have tried port forwarding in the range of 5060-5069 and 16000-16500 as UDP protocol.  I was instructed by their tech support to set it up this way.  I also clicked off of "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" under the Security/Firewall settings.  Still no luck.  What else could be preventing the Internet phone from connecting to the internet?
Message Edited by Schreebs on 11-13-2007 03:33 PM

So obviously there is a problem with the router, and the software is configured just fine.
This is incorrect. It is usually a configuration problem on the softphone because your router only does what you want it to do which is NAT for your private LAN. You have to enable STUN in x-lite for NAT traversal of the router. Otherwise x-lite will register your private IP address with the provider which obviously won't work.
You should have a look into the log of x-lite. It shows you which packets have been sent out and which you have received. See if it only sends something out end does not get any responses. You can also see what IP address the softphone uses to register.

  • Regarding a WRT54G: Firmware and trouble with Vista

    Hey all,
First of all, this is my first post here on this board so please don't have me assassinated if I skipped some board rules/policy. I'm trying to find a solution to my problem a.s.a.p.
My first question is: what's up with the firmware versions and my router's modelname? When I bought the router I got it in a box saying WRT54G (v1.1) with firmware version 4.30.7. As a first step getting the problem described below solved, I downloaded the latest Linksys  firmware for a WRT54G v1.1 from this website. After the firmware update my router now seems to be known as a WRT54GL and next to that my firmware version number didn't increase, it deacreased to 4.21.1. I don't know about you guys but this doesn't seem logical to me. Any explanations? Also the firmware's date seems to be somewhere back in 2006, isn't this a bit outdated for 'latest' software?
Now onto the next subject: the fact that my Acer notebook keeps losing the wireless signal since Vista. The wireless connection between the router and my notebook has always worked very fast and flawlessly when I ran XP SP2. However, as soon as I install Vista, something odd happens. With the same drivers for my wireless chipset (they're for both XP and Vista) either my notebook keeps losing the wireless signal or the router has trouble providing my Vista notebook with a steady signal. For 30 to 45 minutes I seem to have a steady signal with 5 blocks filled on Windows' signal'O'meter and then suddenly I get disconnected from my router for like 10 seconds to 1 minute. At first it says my connection turned from "local and internet" to "local only" and after a few seconds the entire signal is dead and the wireless tray icon gets covered by that little yellow triangle. Without interfering it'll take up to a minute at most and the connection will be back as it was before. However, this minute is just enough to mess up skype sessions, downloads, streams, you name it. To be honest, I haven't got the faintest idea what might cause this. Does anyone of you have?
    N.b.
    - I think I've noticed the issue occuring more frequent during high bandwidth usage like downloading with 2.5 to 3 MB/s but I'm not very sure about that.
    - My notebook hasn't moved an inch over the past years and there are no other devices added in my house that might interfere with the signal.
    - I've tried all the eleven channels.
    - I've set up a dualboot system on my notebook with XP SP2 and guess what, problem is gone when I use XP SP2 again.
    - I'm using an Atheros AR500G wireless adapter.
    - I'm only using Acer's drivers for the wireless adapter, not their useless resources consuming utility that "manages my wireless settings". Which seem to be Acer's words for slowing sh1t down a lot!
    - I'm using exactly the same internet security software with Vista as with XP SP2. Turning this software off won't help in any way.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    G.

First thing which you can check is the Model number of your Router. Flip the router upside down and below you will find the Model number of your Router and version number. Make sure it is WRT54G or WRT54GL. As you have mentioned that previously the firmware on your Router was 4.30.7, Basically that's the Firmware version of WRT54GL Router.
Since you have already upgraded the firmware on your Router, Have you resetted your Router and re-configured all the settings back on your Router? If not then you can do it now.
While Configuring the settings on your Router you need to change the Wireless Channel to 11.
Now you can try to connect to your Wireless Network and check if you are able to go Online.
The model on the router itself says WRT54G.
I've already resetted and reconfigured the router several times, doesn't help. Also tried all the 11 channels.
And yes, I am able to go online but the problem described in my first post still exists. I don't see why switching channels would solve it anyway since it's clearly a problem caused by the router in combination with Vista, it's not signal strength related. But like I said, I tried all the channels anyway.
Is it possible for a Linksys employee to take a look at this topic? Are there some known issues with a WRT54G and Vista and/or an Atheros AR5005G chipset? Is my hardware and software supported by the WRT54G at all?

  • WRT54G router and call of duty online gaming

I just bought the WRT54G wireless router and had no problem installing it. I was able to get internet connection on the wired desktop and the wireless laptop. However, when I start playing 'Call of Duty 4' online, within a couple of minutes I start to lose internet connectivity until it completely goes out. At the same time, I will lose connectivity on my laptop as well. In one iteration of fixing this problem, my laptop displayed a message that said something about an 'IP address conflict'.
I called tech support and tried a few different changes in configurations, including changing the MTU to 1400 and creating a static IP address in the 'Accessibility and Gaming' section of the Linksys configurations.
I read several other posts that mention a gaming wireless router (WK300TN or something like that). Do I need that even if I'm gaming on the wired desktop and not on the wireless laptop? Help!

yes WRT310N, WRT330N etc are build for good performance in gaming. Those would definitely improve situation.

  • WRT54G v5 and v6 Auto-Reboot

    Hello...
It seems as though I am not alone when I describe the propensity for my WRT54G to reboot on its own.  As the subject of this thread indicates, I do own both a v5 and a v6, both of which are up-to-date in their firmware.
I have read a number of other threads about this issue, and can come to no succinct and logical conclusion as to what the ultimate verdict is on the root cause and the proper means of address for this problem.  Both my routers are well out-of-warranty, and I couldn't even begin to think of where the receipts for these things are.  If I had them, the imprints on the thermal paper would have long faded by now.
Before I find it necessary to replace the router with one that doesn't reboot itself (perhaps a D-Link or a Motorola or some other brand not plagued by such an issue), I would appreciate it if anyone out there could provide a clear answer as to what the problem is and how to resolve it, if that information is, in fact, available.  Otherwise, I'm done with Linksys and will replace my router at first opportunity.
I have already tried the power off/power on and all those rudimentary steps.  We're beyond that, here.
    Thanks.

    Hi there...
Unfortunatelly you are not alone facing this problem. I' also expiriencing the same, and also looked and looked for answers. I've even contacted the Linksys Live Chat Support Centre and they couldn't tell me what causes this problem. I've tried other advises found on forums but in vain.
So I've contacted Linksys Support again and this time they told it's a hardware problem and that I'll have to get a new one.
    Very encouaging answer.
But now that I've read your post and also another one about a different model I've come to realize that we've all done the same thing, and that's updating the firmware. The problems seem to have appeared after the upgrade.
I suspected the firmware as being bad but I had no satisfactory proof.
I tried to download the latest version 1.55 again as I've deleted it but I couldn't find it anymore on Linksys website.
I think they've realized the firmware had a bug, so they are not offering it anymore. Probably to cover their mistake
The Linksys products are not bad, just stick with whatever you buy, don't try to make it "better" by updating anything.
Unfortunately we've learned this lesson on our own expense, but at least we know what not to do again.
    Hope this helped.

  • Bridging between WRT54G v6 and WRT54G2 v1, possible?

I have been using a WRT54G v6 for quite some time now, and I recently purchased a WRT54G2 to use at my home theater system with my Tivo and HTPC.  I want to have my Tivo and HTPC hard wired to the WRT54G2, and have that linked wirelessly to my WRT54G, or the other way around if that will work.
Is it possible to set either of these devices to a "bridge" mode to allow this?  I have heard that it can be done with 3rd party firmware, but I don't want to go down that road if I can avoid it.
    Thanks

You can connect 2 routers to each other, For that you need to make some changes on your router in order to make them work.
Click here and follow the setps and once you are done with the settings you will be able to go online from both the routers.
