WRT54GS V6 multiple access restrictions

I have setup access restrictions for my kids machine but can only get 1 profile to work.
I would like to have access for then between 6pm and 10pm Monday - Friday and 24 Hrs Saturday & Sunday.
In the profile I have created (that works) is the IP address for my kids machine as well as the MAC address.
Can someone help please.
I can only find help on single policies.
Thanks

Oh, I didn't seem to get it right. You were asking why you can't enable 2 policies at the same time right? (e.g. policy 1 & 2 is selected)
Well, here's the thing, the router will be the one to enable the policy on that specific date. For example, policy 1 is for weekdays and policy 2 is for weekends. Just double-check that the router's time is the same with the pc. The router will be the one to disable policy 1 and enable policy 2 on weekend. When on weekdays it will then disable policy 2 and enable policy 1.
Hope this clears things up!

  • WRT54GS 1.1 Access restrictions

I have a WRT54GS 1.1, firmware 4.71.1, and cannot block sites. I can create DENY rules to selectively block my kids, but must set up 2 rules for each MAC address, one to block 1200-0600 and another to block 9PM-1155PM, leaving 6AM-9PM open for the internet. Problem is, by having to use DENY rules, I cant block sites by URL or keyword - that only works on ALLOW rules. If I make a generic ALLOW rule, the URL blocking works, but none of the DENY rules then work, allowing internet access 24/7. I tried a generic ALLOW, 24hrs, and named all MAC addresses. This was followed by specific DENY's, by MAC, to filter. The ALLOW rule was the only rule being used - all others stop. Help?

Policies are evaluated from the top down, i.e. it starts with the first and continues from there. For each policy it is checked whether the time of day matches and if the IP address/MAC address is in the list of pcs. If a policy matches it is evaluated, i.e. either it denys the traffic for deny policies or it allows the traffic for allow policies. If you have configured URL/keyword blocking those are excepted in allow policies.
The important thing: with the first matching policy the processing ends! No other policies are evaluated. If you have a allow all policy with 24/7 time and some computers listed this will be the only policy which will be evaluated for those computers.
Thus to use URL blocking from 0600-2100 and to block all internet the rest of time you should be able to use two policies:
    1. allow traffic 0600-2100 for listed PCs blocking certain URLs
    2. deny all traffic at any time for listed PCs.
This allows full internet to all non-listed PCs. It blocks all traffic on listed PCs outside the 0600-2100 time. It allows internet traffic from 0600-2100 except for URLs listed.
This should work. Unfortunately, the access restrictions implementation varies between routers and has a long history of flaws. Thus no guarantee that it will work this way. Still, the basic rule remains the only the highest matching policy gets evaluated and no other.

  • No Internet with Multiple Access Restrictions

    Hi,
I have a WRT54Gv5 and have setup the following Access Restrictions for an Ipod Touch.  Having a single AR works fine but adding another kills internet for that user.  I am using the MAC filter for that user.
    M-F: 6am-7:30am, allow Internet but block MSN.com, live.com and facebook.com
    M-Th: 2:45pm-7:30pm, allow all
    F-Sa: 6am-8:30pm, allow all
    Su: 6am-7:30pm, allow all
I was thinking of using block instead of allow but that would make a lot of block windows (or maybe that is the only solution).
    Thanks

Make sure that your router is running on latest firmware.
If not then try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on your router.
Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer. Open the setup page of the router and upgrade the firmware. After upgrading the firmware on your router, reset the router and reconfigure it.

  • Access Restrictions bug of firmware 1.01.1 for WRT54G V5 V6

    I am using WRT54G V5.
The Access Restrictions function won't work properly when using firmwares 1.01.1 and 1.01.0. Ports can't be blocked by using the "Blocked Services" in this function.
Now I have to switch back to 1.00.9 to make the port blocking work, but there is a DHCP server issue which could only be fixed in 1.01.0 or above.... Could someone fix this BIG BUG and roll out a new firmware????
    Thanks a bunch.

What is your Fragmentation and RTS threshold value? I'm not sure if I'm reading your message right, but it says as far as I can understand 30. The value should be 2304 instead for both.
Ty changing the wireless channel also to either 1, 6 or 11.

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Downgrading firmware on WRT54G/access restrictions

I had a WRT54G.  Access restrictions worked.  I upgraded the firmware and the access restrictions no longer worked.
So after researching, it appears the firmware I upgraded to was buggy and the access restrictions didn't work with the new firmware.  I couldn't figure out how to downgrade back to what I had.
Called Linksys and ultimately they said they would send a new router.  I asked if it would have the old firmware that my router had previously, where the access restrictions worked.  Yes, they said.
New router arrives today.  Firmware is v1.02.2, June 7, 2007.  NOT the prior firmware.  Sure enough, the access restrictions still do not work on this router either.  I don't want to spend yet another two weeks trying to resolve this with Linksys.
Question:  Is there a way to downgrade to firmware where the access restrictions actually work for WRT54G?  If so,
what version should I downgrade to?
where do I obtain it? and
can I download the firmware and then install it using the administration/upgrade firmware tab on the router (even though it is a downgrade)?
Thanks very much for any thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestion, Badboy.  Unfortunately, although I could download the firmware and successfully load it onto the router, the access restrictions in that version do not work either.
It doesn't seem as though all prior versions of firmware are on the ftp site, ftp.linksys.com.  For example, I also have a wrt54gs v. 4 (speedbooster) with the same access restriction problem.  It currently has a firmware version loaded that doesn't appear to be listed on that website.  (I couldn't download prior firmware for that version that worked.)  So, perhaps prior firmware exists for the wrt54g v. 6 that is not listed on that site also.
Does anyone know if there is another site that has a more extensive collection of prior linksys firmware?
If not, I suppose I can call linksys again, but even if they send yet another router promising the old firmware on it, I suspect the message is just going to get lost between the promise made on the phone and the guy in the warehouse filling the RMA order.

  • WRT54GS Access Restriction for WiFi Connected Devices

I have the WRT54GS v4 running with the latest Firmware Version: v1.06.3 -- I am attempting to add Access Restrictions for a few MAC addresses and IP addresses (my kids iPod Touch and laptop).
I am simply wanting to deny total internet access from 9pm to 7am.   I have gotten it to work but ONLY for computers that are actually plugged into the router (cat 5 internet cables).  All the computers/devices that connect to the router via wifi do not seem to be restricted at all.   I am thinking this is an issue with the router in that it ONLY seems to apply the Access Restriction rules to those devices that are actually directly connected by hardwire.
Has any one else noticed this issue for WiFi connected devices?  Access Restrictions do not seem to apply to WiFi connected devices.
Please help -- I would hate to have to buy another router.

Are you sure you have enter the correct MAC address or IP address? Wired connections use different MAC and IP addresses then wireless connection...

  • WRT54G Access Restriction Time /Day Problems. Need Help!

    Hi,
I have a WRT54G wireless router. When I set the access restriction time to DENY everyday from 11:00pm to 6:00am, it displayed that "The end time must be bigger than start time!". It is from 11 at night to 6 in the morning. How else do I set it? I even upgrade the firmware to v4.21.1 but it still does not work with that time setting.  I tried to set to ALLOW everyday from 6:00am to 11:30pm and it accepted the settting but it just applied the restriction right away without waiting for the right time (after I enable it, none of the laptops can access internet even its only 9:10pm).. The time in the linksys setup page is correct as well as all my pcs. Please help! Thanks.

The Access Restrictions feature of a Linksys router allows you to limit Internet access on your network.  You can deny certain computers’ Internet access or block certain applications and services.

  • WRT54GS Internet Access Restriction Policies

I am finding it challenging to correctly define Internet Access Restriction
policies on my Linksys WRT54GSv4 wireless router. Documentation does not
describe multiple policies being enabled.  I think that multiple policies
should be from most restrictive to least, but I am not sure.
I wish to deny Internet access from my child's WII and PSP from 10:30 PM to
6:30 AM.  Also, I want to filter all hosts for blocked words and blocked
    sites.
    Currently, I have three policies:
    1) Child_Evening --
    WII and PSP MAC Filter
    10:30 PM to 11:55 PM
    Deny
    2) Child_Night --
    WII and PSP MAC Filter
    12:00 AM to 6:30 AM
    Deny
    3) SiteWord --
    IP Range 192.168.1.2 - 254
    Block Various Sites
    Block Various Words
I would like input as to the correct use of multiple Internet Access
    Restriction policies

create an Internet Access Policy:1. Internet access Policy - 1
    2. Enable.
    3. Child Access(Name of the policy)
    4. Deny range 192.169.1.252
    5. 10:30 PM to 11:55 PM - Everyday
    6. Blocked Services - All
    7. Port Range Start - 1  ;  End - 61000
    8.Save Settings
    9.Rebooting....
You deny all access through by all services to any sites.
Create the same policy with different number and name to deny access  from 12:00 AM to 6:300 AM..
Url Filtering Policy to deny adult sites, they're too much with different url address. You can deny most of them, but not all.
    Good Luck!!!!!

  • WRT54GS Internet Access Restriction Doesn't Work

I have a WRT54GS wirless router and I can't get the internet access restriction capability to work. I'm trying to limit the time my kid's spend on their laptops, but the settings don't seem to take hold.
I have upgraded to the latest firmware (V4.71.1) for my router. (AT least I think it's the latest). I am using the Wireless MAC Filter for security, so only my family's PC's can access my wireless router (and I'm not broadcasting my SSID to the world). In the Internet Access Restriction screen, I have my kid's PC's MAC addresses in the PC list... same ones that I'm using to allow them to access the router, so I know they're correct. Then I have set the settings to 'Deny' internet access during specific time periods: 12:00 am - 1: 00 pm, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and 10:00 pm - 11:55 pm. I have 'Enabled' and 'Save Settings', so they should be live. After all this, my kids can still access the internet... this just doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas? Shouldn't this work even without the latest firmware?

Open the setup page of the router,Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz..Under Advanced Wireless Settings..Change the Beacon Interval to 50,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...Also reduce the MTU size to 1350.
    For Access Restriction,try this link.

  • Can't get Access Restrictions to work WRT54G v3

I am trying to get a cell phone to have access to my LAN from 3am to 7am.  I gave the policy a name, allowed access, checked everyday and the time 3a to 7a.  Under edit list of PCs, I entered the MAC address of the phone, and I have also entered the MAC address of the phone on the wireless>edit mac filter list, though didn't know if I should.
Anyway, I can't seem to get the Access Restriction to work and would appeciate any guidance...thanks

hmmmmmm... have you tried using the IP address instead?  based on my experience, the Acces Restriction policies are a bit tricky.
Too bad the WRT54g has no parental controls which is a lot easier to configure.

  • Access restrictions w/ WRT54G Ver 8 (Firmware 8.0.5).......

It seems that Access Restrictions are a bit of a problem w/ the Linksys routers. Well, here's my story to go with the crowd. Hopefully, someone at Linksys / Cisco can provide a solution.
I am wanting to set up access restrictions on my Linksys WRT54G Ver. 8 (Firmware 8.0.5). Following the "instructions", I built my access restrictions as follows:
    Policy 1
    Enabled
    Named for my PC
Edited List of PC's - inserted my NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Everyday
    24 Hrs per day
    Saved Settings
    Policy 2
    Enabled
    Named for my daughters laptop
Edited List of PC's - inserted her Wireless NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Sun - Thur: 07:00 AM - 09:30 PM
    Fri - Sat: 07:00 AM - 10:00 PM
    Saved Settings
    Policy 3
Enabled Named for my wife's desktop
Edited List of PC's - inserted her NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Sun - Sat: 06:00 AM - 11:00 PM
    Saved Settings
....then, I reset the router. Once up, I tried access from each PC...nothing. Couldn't get out.
Thus, I went back into the Linksys set up, disabled the access restrictions. Viola ! I'm back on-line with all three PC's.
Checked around the forum and found that some people had built a primary policy that included all of their PC MAC's or IP addresses and was "Enabled" and set to "Deny" Internet access 24/7. From there, they built out their access restrictions and, supposedly, they worked.
I tried that as well...deleted all the access restrictions. Reset the router and went through the entire router setup to be on the safe side. Built the primary "Deny" access restriction then my other three PC restrictions. And....it still didn't work.
Thus, I would really like to get this working so I can limit my daughters access. It's interfering with her school work so I want to lock her down a little bit. Friends are important to her but I've stressed that her education is even more important.
Thus, if Linksys themselves or someone on the forums can provide an answer, excellent ! If not, I'll look into another router that can do the job. I'd rather not do that, but if the Linksys won't perform this function, I'll have to. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Thanks for the reply. I deleted all profiles and built just the two specific for my daughters laptop and one for my wife's PC. My wife's PC is running XP SP3. It follows the access restriction policy with no problems. My daughters laptop is running Vista Home Premium. With the policies active, her connectivity was sporadic for about an hour before it just finally shut off her connectivity completely...well before the policy was supposed to.
Thus, I'm now thinking that thismay be a Vista problem to an extent as well(Gee....who would have thought that !?!?!?!?).
I disabled the IP 6 protocol just as a precaution. Still no access. And when I disable the policies on the Linksys, she's back in service.
    Any further suggestions are appreciated.

  • ABOUT wrt54g 'Access Restriction'

    Dear all:
once the duration of rule expired. It won't apply another rule by the time serial.
For example, I set up one of PCs was allowed to access internet between 7:00am~11:55am. This PC could access to internet after 11:55am, even I set another rule for this PC with duration 12:00pm~18:00pm.
Is any solution for my needs.

The Access Restrictions feature allows you to limit Internet access on your network.  You can deny access to certain computers, block certain applications and services, and block certain websites by the use of keywords or by the URL at a given time.  This feature allows you to customize up to 10 different Internet Access Policies for particular computers, which are identified by their IP or MAC addresses.

  • WRT54G access restrictions

    Hi
I've (foolishly perhaps) just updated the firmware of this router and I'm trying to replace the access restrictions.
I am trying to permit continuous internet access for one machine (identified by MAC address) but block facebook from 10.30pm.
The current policy (set from 10.30pm to 11.55pm) allows me to do this but then refuses the machine ANY internet access outside of this time.
    Anyone had this problem before?

Thanks for you help with this. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way around the problem. It would appear that I can set a policy to allow internet access and block a URL (in this instance, facebook) but this also establishes the parameters for the time available to access the internet.
    An example is as follows:
Allow internet access and block facebook for one machine (identified by MAC adress) from 10:30 to 11:55 (only 5 min blocks of time are available).
This has the effect of the diasallowing ALL internet access at other times. Writing a second policy that states internet access IS permitted has no effect - all other machines on the network are unaffected.
Presumably it's just not possible to achieve what I want which is very frustrating - firmware is v4.30.15. It's simply become an academic challenge now!
Again - thanks for the help. Must sleep now!
