WRT54GS v6Router - laptop connects, disconnects, re-connects, disconnects...

I have Linksys router wired to a desktop and a laptop that connects wirelessly.  Recently, the WZC was stopped somehow and I turned it back on.  This didn't resolve the problem.  My laptop will show connected and then disconnected on the EasyLink Advisor Status screen.  This connect-disconnect-reconnect is continuous about every two to three minutes.  The wired desktop has no problems.  Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Donnie

Dan, et al,
Okay.  So I didnt resolve the issue.  What i learned is that if I close the internet connection, i.e., close email or and PC restart, I have no WZC.  From hte command line I start the WZC and then, in the properties of hte wireless connection I have to check "Use Windows to configure my networks" or something like that.
Why do I now have to perform this each time the PC or internet connections are closed?
Also, when I try to view networks in area I get hte warning that WZC isn;t running and maybe a third party set up is running.
Any ideas what I have done to mess this up?  Thanks in advance for your(anyone's) help.

  • Question - WRT54G to laptop, connection sharing

    Hello Group,
I wasnt sure how to title this, sorry if it is in anyway misleading. What I would like to ask is this...
I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router and what I would like to do if this is possible is this. I have a wireless broadband usb card that plugs into my laptop (Vista Ultimate) that provides my internet connection to my laptop, I would like to plug my WRT54G wireless router into my laptops 45j plug and provide a wireless internet connection to other laptops within the wireless range of my router. Is there a way to do this, can anyone help me?
Thank you for your help in advance.
    Doug

Router will broadcast and provide the wireless signal, nomatter whether your laptop is connected to the router or not. You just need to do the proper wireless settings on your router with the computer connected to the router.Once the router is configured you will get the wireless signal on all the wireless computers..
Do the following wireless settings on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Xbox disconnects when laptop connects to network

My Xbox 360 disconnects from the network everytime my laptop connects. I have static IP on my 360 and automatic IP on my laptop.
I tried putting my Xbox on automatic, still didnt work.
I tried putting my laptop to manual - it worked but I can't leave it like this because I connect to different networks (school, home, work, etc).
Other computers/consoles dont get disconnected when I connect with my laptop.
Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

As you are already using static Ip on X-BOX, forward ports 88 & 3074 for the same Ip
    Also try this setting:
    Channel – 1or 11
    Beacon interval – 75
    RTS & fragmentation threshold – 2306

Does the cable you try is the official one from the apple store?
Which iphone model do you have and what's the iOS version, iTunes version?

added: same problem connection gps on msi laptop.
installation did not succeed of the new update card.
second time, I  held the laptop and followed the installation (while watchin tv), at the end, I moved then, connection was lost en then made back again, and this for a couple of times.
But at the end, card was installed succesfully, luckily, it take hours to download and install the card.
I really hope for a quick solution.
Can you explain how you install the card and what kind of card are you installing?
Are you conneting to the internet through wifi? or you use bluetooth or something else to download the GPS maps or something else?

  • Laptop connects to wireless network via a WRT54G but it can't access internet

I’ve got a WRT54G cabled to my desktop, I set up a WEP-secured wireless network for my laptop, and the laptop connects to the wireless network and receives a strong signal, but it can’t get Internet access. I know the problem is not with the router because the laptop CAN get internet access when it's cabled to the router.  (So the problem isn’t an IP address problem—which I knew because I had to reconfigure the static IP of the laptop to get it to connect to the network in the first place.)  I turned off the Windows firewall, Symantec virus protection, and Internet Explorer’s pop-up blocker on the laptop. The laptop connects perfectly to the wireless network and receives a strong signal, so why can’t it access the internet??
Linksys tech support couldn’t figure it out, so I really need your help.  Thank you!

(because I wanted it to have the same static IP address as the router).
Just wanted to clarify what you meant in this post. If you entered the router's IP address as the static IP for the laptop, you would get the symptoms that you are describing. Try entering a IP that isn't normally used like 192.168.1.142. (That is assuming that your router IP is the default 192.168.1.1.)
If that isn't the issue, please tell me what ipconfig is returning on both the laptop and the desktop.

  • WRT54G v.6 Periodic Disconnects. HELP!

The issue i am having is interesting. I have the WRT54G v.6 wireless router. I have a strong cable connection wired directly from the modem to my desktop, currently. I purchased the router so that my roommate could make use of the wireless cable connection as well.
I set up the router, wiring my desktop to it, while my roommates laptop picked up the wireless connection without an issue. However.. about 20-25 minutes afterward, the connection for BOTH the wired desktop and wireless laptop would be interrupted/disconnected for a few seconds to minute, then reconnect. This happens continuously. This is problematic as a main reason for the connection is to game online. I will be having a wired LAN gathering of sorts for the same reason this weekend, so i am hoping to understand why this is happing, and resolve the issue.
Linksys tech support has been unable to diagnose the issue, nor even provide me with a competent understanding of the problem i am describing, being as outsourcing has resulted in the support staff simply reading a scripted log. I have called them three times, and they have been of no assistance.
The wired and wireless connection worked and was recognized with the base default settings of the router. I altered the settings as per the support staff's directions to no avail. I also ran the wireless notebook through the linksys "easy access setup" program, also to no avail.
I have since then disconnected the router, and once again, i am running my desktop directly to the modem. I have not experienced a disconnect since, so i am certain the problem is router-based.
    Can anyone provide some insight?

    EXACTLY MY SAME PROBLEM!!!!
Im using the same router version 6, 1 WIRED computer, 3 Wireless LAPTOP connection, And disconnection is relgular, although it jus reconnects autmatically, i jus find it ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!
contacted Linksys, who is now offering me support she directs me to
    "Please follow these steps:
    1. Connect one computer directly to your router.
    2. Access the setup page of the router using the router’s IP address on the address bar of your Internet browser. The default router’ IP address is 192.168.1.1. Just leave the username blank and type admin for the password. If you have changed the router’s password during the initial setup, you may use that password. If the router doesn’t accept the admin as well as your password, try to reset the router for 5 seconds.
    3. Under Setup tab, locate MTU.
    4. Set MTU to enable then enter 1300 on the size field.
    5. Click on Save Settings then click Continue.
    6. Click on the Wireless tab. Change the SSID if it is still linksys, change it to your family name to avoid network interference.
    7. Change the channel to 11.
    8. Make sure that your SSID Broadcast is enabled.
    9. Click on Save Settings.
    10. Shut down everything for 2 minutes.
    11. Power on starting from the modem then the router and lastly your PC."
Stll i get disconnection problems which i emailed her back and now hoping to get a reply.
So if anyone can give it a try and see if it works, otherwise im gonna giveup and just return the **bleep** thing!
    **bleep**!
I was having the same problem.
WHAT THE LADY SAID WORKED!! I GOT MY CONNECTION BACK, SIGNAL STRENGTH AND CONNECTION AT 100% AND STAYING!!!!!
I would suggest everyone give the instructions above a try cause it seems to work.
But even thought it did work, technical support you guys need to reaize this is a issue and a problem and needs to be resolved.
As my connection kept coming in and out I was watching the signal strength and it kept going from Good to Poor and back to Good and on and on and on. AND MY ROUTER IS ONLY 30FT FROM MY WIRELESS COMPUTER. THIS NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED!
    Thank you.

  • Wrt54g flaky wireless connection

my wrt54g router has been working fine since i set it up over 6 months ago.  i have 2 pc's connected via ethernet cables and 2 connect via wireless.  recently i have seen minor disconnects on my laptop via the wireless.  today, my son's computer (which is connected wireless) wont connect at all.
the icon in his system tray will show a connection ranging from good to very good but he can not access the internet.  the linksys monitor shows connection to the router but cant reach the internet.
i have confirmed that my isp is up and running by connecting one of my wired pc directly into the cable modem and then connected to the router.  i get internet connection both times.
now i see my wireless laptop connecting and dropping it's connection.  it sounds like the wireless side of my wrt54g router is flakey.  is there diagnostics i can run to check it out.

  • Why do multiple laptop connections block each others' connectivity?

    HP 6000 Plus, XP
I set up my personal laptop and my work laptop to print to my HP 8600 printer. 1) If I print from my personal laptop, it disconnects (albeit temporarily) the VPN connection on my work laptop. 2) If I connect my work laptop to my company VPN, then I can longer print from my personal laptop. Why do these two situations occur?

    Hello ratfink80,
These applications may be running when you shut down or restart the system. You can use Activity Monitor to determine if they are, and also quit or force quit them as necessary before shutting down or restarting.

we have a movie downloaded on a laptop connected to the internet pluged into our router in the basement and an apple tv upstairs trying to play the movie through home sharing but it wont play. can anyone tell me whats wrong? it comes to the last loading page where it shows the desscription of the movie befor it acually plays.

It can come about without any change done by the user, and it's not just from other networks. The placement of the router can also affect performance. Also make sure router is up to date.
Apart from that would be the reboots.

  • Laptop connecting to Router but cant access intern...

Hi all, my girlfriend and I have recently moved into a new place and decided to opt for B.T Broadband. Our Home Hub 4 was delivered yesterday, and we set it up according to the instructions. Since setting up, my girlfriend has been able to get the internet working absolutely fine on her laptop (X.P), and I have been able to access it on my mobile phone (blackberry) and tablet (Android)
However, despite my laptop connecting to the router, it is refusing to actually allow me to access the internet. The router is displayed as an 'unidentified network' and the connection is local only.
Does anyone have any advice? I can't connect using an ethernet cable as my laptop's port is broken. I have tried performing a windows updaet but it doesn't seem to have done anything. Not a complete disaster but a little annoying, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Vista does have issues with WPA2 encryption.  Could it be you weren't using that on your previous router?  The BT Hubs default to that, so you could try changing the encryption type.  There is a windows update for that which should have come down.
If it is showing unknown network, you could try setting a fixed address for the laptop if you only use it at home.
Press windows key and r, then type ncpa.cpl in the box that pops up.  Then right click on wireless network.  Select Internet Protocol v4 (TCP/IPv4) then press properties.  Then on the next page select use following address for IP address and fill the fields with, as an example,
    192.168.1.10
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.1.254
Then in the dns fields beneath you could use:
    8.8.8.8
    192.168.1.254.
Hit ok, then close and that'll get you back to the page that shows the wireless connection.  It should have stopped showing unknown connection by now and hopefully, you should have a connection.
There are known issues with doing this on Vista, but the fix for this is readily googleable and not every user gets it.

  • WRT54GS won't connect to internet

I've turned WEP security on and off with no success. My computer can connect to Road Runner when the cable is not going through the WRT54GS. The connection is excellent on all my devices, just no internet. I'm thinking there's one tiny setting I'm not thinking of enabling but I'm out of ideas at the moment. If you need more info from me let me know. Thanks...

  • Can I hook up a laptop connect card to iPad?

okay, i want to make sure of this - if i get a Wifi iPad can I hook up a laptop connect card so i can have a connection no matter if i'm in a wifi hotspot or not? From what i understand there is no usb connections but i hear there may be a camera connect or some other piece of hardware i can attach to the ipad to allow for this? anyone? thanks.

Sorry, but it won't work. The camera connector kit doesn't provide enough power for a USB modem, and there is no way to install the required drivers at the OS level on an iPad.

  • WRT54GS - Show no connection in My Network Page even if online

Why dose my WRT54GS show no connection to the internet on the My Network Page but I am on the internet ?

If i am correct, i guess you are talking about the Network Map that we got to see after we connects our Win VISTA/7 computer to internet directly or via Router....
If that is the case, i guess resetting your router back to factory defaults and reconfiguraing the same using the required settings should sort this out....Try using:
