WRT54GS V7 Gaming Issues

I have the WRT54GS V7 Wireless router with it hard lined to my comp. I play World of Warcraft and get lag spikes every few minutes that make it very hard to play. I have upgraded firmware and opened the correct ports for the game but it is still happening. The game runs flawlessly when my cable modem is connected directly to my computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did that, still getting really bad lag spikes while playing Any other suggestions?

  • WRT54G LAN gaming issue

We have a WRT54G v8.  We are having trouble connecting Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds multiplayer games.  Both computers are connected to LAN ports.  Both computers can ping each other and browse each other's shares.  In the game, each computer can see a game put up by the other computer.  But when trying to connect to the game, it times out and fails.  This happens whether we use DHCP from the router or static IPs.  If we connect the PCs by cat5e crossover cable and change nothing else the game connects and works fine.  It therefor seems obvious that the router is blocking something.  I thought that the firewall settings, port forwarding, and port triggering only affected WAN to LAN traffic.  I thought that all traffic was passed unfiltered LAN port to LAN port as if using a hub, but it seems to not be true.  I have turned off UPNP and played with the 4 firewall checkboxes - still having the problem.  The game uses TCP Ports 2300-2400,6073 and UDP Ports 2300-2400,6073,47624.  We recently upgraded from a BEFW11S4 v3.2 which worked fine for this game.  Can anyone tell me what is being blocked and why?  Can anyone tell me how to make this work just like a hub with respect to LAN port to LAN port?  Also buying a hub and connecting it to the router is only slightly helpful since we also would like to do this using the wireless built in to the router.

Enable the UPnP and reduce MTU to 1458 and check whether it works or not and let me know…

  • WRT54G - Online Gaming Problem

I have been trying for almost a year trying to get online gaming to work with my router. I've been trying to play Age of Empires 2. I've done about anything and everything to get myself about play. I know it's my router as when I connect my computer directly to the modem, it works and I'm able to play online. I can never see the room when I use my router. My router is a WRT54G v2.2. It's been upgraded to the latest firmware which is one of the things I tried with no luck. I have tried port forwarding, but it didn't work. I followed this website exactly and tried it more than once: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/Age_of_Empires_II.htm But no luck... I also even tried to enable DMZ, but no luck either. I tried Hamachi too. We're able to connect and all, but nothing either. I don't know what's wrong, but if anyone can help, I will appreciate it greatly. However, maybe I did something wrong with port forwarding. You never know, but most likely not. Still...

  • Gaming issues and heat issues, running windows 8.1 pro via bootcamp

I have a few problems, and I don't know what else to do, then to write for help here..
I really hope someone out there can help me, because I have had this problem since I bought my laptop mid 2012, and I got smarter since then, so now I know that I actually shouldn't have these problems, it's not because my very expensive laptop is bad, or that it is a laptop or because it's a mac, regardless of what people say, I'm positively certain that it's a problem which shouldn't be there.
I have pretty great specs, (trust me i checked them out, not the best in the world, but pretty good) yet I can't enjoy 1 single mmorpg game like, Tera, or the new Archeage (currently in open beta), or any other game, (swordsman online)... Even though people say Tera has bad coding, I have tried adjusting things for weeks if not months, NOTHING helps, i get a frame rate that is from 0-25 very unstable, usually around 7-12, and sure if I go the lowest settings in the games I can get very unstable framerates but i guess they can get up to around 35-72 but drops to like 7 or 3 sometimes as well, so even on the LOWEST settings in the games I can't enjoy the games fully... It lags and such because of the low fps ofc...
Other than that it also have a heat issue, mostly when running windows 8.1 in bootcamp.
It get's quite hot, just by opening a browser window, and yes i have tried reseting smc, and p-rams, many times.. nothing seems to help.
And even if it helped the heat problem, the gaming problem is still there.
Now to my specs: (I have the macbook pro retina, mid 2012, 15 inch)
    - Prosseser: 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache. "Core i7" processor (3720QM)
    - Memory: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory
    - Storage: 256GB ssd flash storage. (Seperated into os x = 130GB, windows 8.1 pro = 120GB) Running games and such from my 1TB external harddisk.
    - Graphics and video support:
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors.
And here's a link to see what is inside it for yourself: http://http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core- i7-2.6-15-mid-2012-retina-display-specs.html
When that is said, apple's warranty has run out, and I didn't buy apple care, but I still have warranty from the store (humac) I bought it in, because in my country the law is warranty 2 years, no matter what, but if i can avoid it, I REALLY would like to avoid switching it out with a new one, since there could be problems all over again, and I would lose what I have on it right now, plus it's a hassle to get a new one, they will always try and fix it for a long long time before they give a new one, and probably can't find the problem...
But if that's the only thing i can do about it, I will ofc, but just don't advise me to do that, unless there's no other solution to the problems.
    Please help me.
ps: sorry if I posted it the wrong place, I wasn't allowed to post it the right place by apple...

If the underlying hardware was exposed correctly by the CSM-BIOS when Windows was installed, your Device Manager should look like this.
If the Windows installer did not see any devices as your screen indicates, Windows will use generic software-based drivers which will be very slow and painful.
Rudegar ... I think the Windows installer did not see  any hardware, otherwise there should be HW with yellow triangles with exclamation marks.

  • Linksys WRT54G v5 - Connection issues

    Good evening,
I picked up a new WRT54G (v5) the other day to replace an old BEFW11 router, and so far have been far less than impressed.  I have one computer on the wired connection, and one on wireless.  It seems, though, that if the wireless system is running any P2P software (Limewire, in this case), or anything else which creates a large number of simultaneous connections (BitTorrent for d/ling CD images, for instance), the router simply dies.  Although any existing TCP connections are fine (e.g. MSN Messenger switchboard connections, though not _new_ conversations), it is virtually impossible to generate any new TCP connections.  They appear to connect immediately, and then disconnect less than a second later.  This occurs for HTTP, SSH, Telnet, IMAP, and SMTP connections, so far as I've tried.
A hard reset of the router seems to be the only thing that helps.
I ran into similar issues with the BEFW11, and ended up using it only as an access point, and relying on an old D-Link DI-704P to take care of NAT -- and this worked fine.  But in this case, I want to take the DI-704 with me when I move, not leave it here ... and so I would really prefer if the Linksys could, uh, do what it's supposed to in the first place.
I tried upgrading the firmware to v1.00.9, but after sitting there for a few minutes I ended up with a "this page cannot be displayed" error from I E.  I'm going to give it another shot, but am a little hesitant to reboot the router at this point because I have no idea if it will be toast at that point or not.
EDIT: Now upgraded to v1.00.9.  Apparently this doesn't work over HTTPS, but it worked fine via HTTP itself.  We'll see if this has made a difference ...
I see some similar reports from other people.  Any suggestions?

yeah use a WRT54GL instead. my website is unindated with wrt54g/GS v5 and v6 router problems. how linksys has been able to ignore this problem is beyond me. the WRT54GL is by far the better router. (linux based)

  • WRT54G v6 Connection issue

The firmware that was shipped with this router (WRT54G v6) seemed to have a corrupt web GUI. So I decided to upgrade and fix the problem as well as get some added features.  I successfully flashed DD-WRT micro Generic v23 SP1 onto the router using TFTP and have had it running smoothly for about 2 months now.
Side note: In the process of flashing the firmware I had several problems, but I found the router had a boot-wait automatically setup. Eventually resolved the issue.
Apparently my roommate came to it one day and saw it had no connection. (Not knowing what to do) He hit the "Secure Easy Setup" button on the front, with no results.  I'm not sure if this button has any affect on the router since the firmware had changed.  Now I can't seem to access to router at all.  All 4 Ethernet connection lights steady on as well as the power light.
I can't seem to ping the router (using static IP and 10base half-duplex or otherwise).  I've tried power-cycling a number of different ways (including holding reset, power off, power on while still holding reset)  Although when I first start the router, the power light blinks for ~8 seconds for the boot-wait sequence.  I can't get TFTP to flash anything onto my router as I did before (from command prompt or GUI mode).  After trying these methods repeatedly and varied, I've about run out of options.
I'm sorry for the length of my post; I felt I should describe the situation.  I'd appreciate any help you guys could provide.  Let me know if there is any info I've neglected to post.

Well you can just send it to Linksys and see what they do and if they do it under warranty. Either they simply reflash the firmware with tools they have available and never notice or they notice and let you know that they won't do it for free. In the latter case you just let them know that they can keep it. As you are planning to buy a new router anyway you don't really loose anything except a bricked router (O.K. some spare parts maybe...).
I am not aware that all v6 routers have a broken GUI. Maybe your router was bad from the beginning...Message Edited by gv on 06-09-200710:53 PM

  • WRT54G wierd connection issue

this problem just started the other day... i am unable to connect to Internet explorer or AIM, it tells me no connection. but the wierd thing is, is i have connection, i can log into Ventrilo, i can play Counter strike Source Online, but World Of Warcraft tells me no connection, so half of my online things work, half dont.  I am able to write this post because if i plug the modem directly into computer it works fine, but it doesnt fix all the other computers we have that are wireless.
The router i have is the WRT54G, the modem is SurfBoard SB3100 Cable Modem, internet service is Adelphia (now time warner), not sure if you guys want to know that.
but it seems to be a direct issue witht he router as i can do everything fine normally
oh, and the router is passworded, not sure the correct term, but to get on my wireless you need to enter a set IP and stuff
thanks for any help (i d/led new firmware, havent tryed it yet though) a friend told me that may help

Your friend may be correct.  Flash your firmware then reset the router to Factory Default settings, then reconfigure it for your ISP and wireless network.  Let us know how that turns out.

  • WRT54GS WEP Security Issues

I have used a WRT54GS for a few years with MAC filtering but no other security.  A few months ago, I decided to add WEP security.  While using WEP security, my wireless connection would go from an excellent signal to dropping randomly.  Additionally, internet browsing would be very slow at times to the point of being unusable.  When I disabled WEP, these issues went away.  What should I look at to troubleshoot this issue?
    Thanks.

  • WRT54G Web-utility Issues

First of all...I'm using a Linksys WRT54G v5 wireless router and a sbc/yahoo DSL service with a Siemen's 4100 DSL modem.  I am addressing all of my issues using a Dell XPS710 fully loaded running Windows Vista and using IE 7.0.6  I've always been able to use the internet (besides DSL's inevitable issues), but in the last few days have been messing with the settings of my network in order to streamline our filesharing/printersharing within my household.
So I tried checking out the 'General Linksys Router FAQs' but when I clicked the links regarding my problem, it only loaded windows addressing how to set up a "PPPOE DSL service."
So my issue is in regard to accessing the Web-based utility.  When I key in my router's IP address to my web browser (http://192.168.1.1/) and type in the generic password, then it loads the web-utility with obvious 'errors on page.'  I then cannot do anything more than change the time zone...I cannot chose a different tab than the "Setup Basic Startup" tab which loads automatically.
When I click on the "wireless" tab for example, a white page loads with this gibberish:
    ¶âÐ&†¶¤ ´! h% Cèl£¹>²$h VÚ ªå QVÄš\aIAB Öd` «°xU cñj Veñê Æâ5 ¬Æâ5)ŒÅk X Å;¡0 O– ° cDæ‰äË eì …BÚƒ,í³³óÅ ÍÚA †P ¿þ öc.]¡˜g®2( Ê1‘3š)}l’Ç*y¬ÐÖ }¤uòX¥ úH[›ä±F[[ô‘¶ž Ç:m•%úL›e:¯FÐN'Ö ÚéÌšA; Z«†ž 50<ˆ g^Œ3/Æ™ ãÌ‹qæÅ8óbœy1μ˜`^L0/&˜ Ì‹ æÅ$ó(Œ™ÇÎd‹Â  W0• ‘ Ãvˆ•´Í®"µÍR Û
I can then return to the previous page on my browser to see the Setup screen again, but there are still obvious visual errors in how the page loaded (it has some of those stupid 'red x's' where images were supposed to load).
So I tried updating the the firmware (its still 1.00.6) using the instructions I found for my router on the linksys website...but halfway during the upload of the .bin file from the management screen, the page failed to load and I recieved the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message.  Since then, my connection has been cutting in and out (Local only) and sometimes I cannot view that the WRT54G is part of my network.  Connecting to the internet directly through my DSL modem works just fine still.
So why can't I access my web-utility correctly?  Why can I not upgrade my firmware?  Would upgrading the firmware fix the web-utility access errors?  Why is the connection cutting 'in and out' rather than just not working?  Has ANYONE else had this problem (with the web-based utility not loading correctly in IE)?
    Thanks,
    Todd W.

I fixed it!  I had to 'reset' the modem for that minute and then upload the firmware from a non-vista pc.  The web browser gave me the 'upload successful' page and so I restarted the computer and unplugged and replugged back in the router...then when the computer rebooted and I loaded the Linksys Router Web-Utility...viola...it no longer contained those ridiculous error screens or jibberish.
And here I though I was gonna have to drop another 50 bucks...

  • Z97-G45 Gaming ISSUES..

    Hi all..
I have the Z97-G45 Gaming board in my pc.. recently installed it.
I am trying to install windows 7 and having a nightmare with it.
The OS seems to install ok, when it comes to reboot to finish the installation I will get a BSOD
If then i reset it again it may boot up ok and get onto the desktop.
If I then shutdown the PC.. on next boot I get the EFI shell inferface and the SSD drive that I am installing to has dissappeared from the BIOS and I cant select it to boot from at all.
If I then turn off and on again, the SSD drive may re appear, system will boot. Then again, if turned off and on again the SSD drive seems to dissappear and I get the EFI shell again.
I have changed my SSD.. same problems happen.. I am on my 2nd motherboard now... same thing happening..
I have tried a new PSU.. same issues.. changed RAM and GPU same issues..
Flahed latest BIOS when I got windows to load but still same issues
Its driving me INSANE.. Can anyone shed any light on this problem for me?
    Thanks, Dan

    looking forward for help

If your XBOX is wired or Wireless to the Router?
If your XBOX are wireless then login to the router setup page and change the Wireless Channel on your Router to 1 or 11, and then under the Advance Wireless Settings tab change the Beacon Interval to 50 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2201 Change the RTS Threshold to 2202 >>Click on "Save Settings"...

  • WRT54G Ver2 VPN issue

I have a HUGE issue with the WRT54G Version 2, Firmware 4.21.1. I have been beating my brains out trying to get this to access my clients VPN. After having no luck, I replaced it with my own WRT54G Version 1 and all works fine. All the settings are exactly the same, but I can not get the VPN to connect. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

This did not work. In fact, once completed I rebooted the router and was not even able to get back on the Internet. I assumed it was the router, so I bought a new WRT54G Version 8 with Firmware 8.0.0. Guess what, this does not allow VPN traffic either. I find this very odd, since all the settings are correct and ports are opened.

  • WRT54GS VPN Connection Issues: Error code 87

    Hello experts,
I have unsuccessfully tried to help my wife connect her XP laptop to her work VPN over our home wi-fi network. I have a WRT54GS v.4 router with the latest firmware, WPA2 encryption. It connects to the VPN just fine but is unable to ping any internal IP addresses and I get the following log message everytime.
    1      09:58:43.546  10/10/09  Sev=Warning/2 CVPND/0xE3400013

I have tried the following troubleshooting tasks:
    a) Plugged her laptop directly to the cable modem >> Works like a charm which makes me think it has got to be a router issue.
    b) Reset to factory defaults, tried running it without any encryption, tried running it in DMZ mode >> No joy, still get the same above error message in the VPN log.
    c) Opened up ports 500 and 1723 for TCP/IP and UDP with her laptop's IP address >> Still no luck.
All passthrough options are enabled for VPN in the router's config interface. I have also tried disabling the router's firewall.
I am at my wit's end here guys. Is it possible that the WRT54GS isn't VPN friendly (although it seems very unlikely) and I just have to get another router? Any help is appreciated.
Edit: The VPN server is IPSec/UDP
Message Edited by sidewinder_us on 10-10-2009 07:36 AM

No, I wasn't trying to ping my router from the VPN connection, I was trying to ping the VPN host server at the office for troubleshooting purposes and the request times out everytime. I am still getting the error message in the log "AddRoute failed to add a route: code 87". I disabled "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" like you said but it didn't make any difference. I am able to ping the computer's IP address assigned by the VPN but I can't ping the host server or anything else.
It's basically connecting to the VPN but not connecting as in I can't do anything on the VPN like access local folders or run a specific software called eClinicalWorks which works fine from the office.
If I plug the laptop directly to the cable modem, I don't get that error message in the VPN client's log anymore and everything works fine.

  • Linksys WRT54G power/cable issues.

So I just bought a Linksys WRT54G for $4 at a flea market, but the lady didn't have the exact power cable, so I just grabbed whatever was the closest. The power cable works, but every couple of minutes the router's power light will start blinking and the internet is out. The good news is it comes right back on after about 20 seconds and I also have an original Linksys power cable from my other router, which fixes the issues.
In conclusion....I know the power cable is whats causing it. A new oem charger is like $12 from amazon, but is there any cheaper alternatives from walmart/etc?
Unless someone knows if there is something else causing the issue, but like I said, when I plug an original linksys charger in it from another linksys router, the issue is not there.

Universal power adapters should work provided with the proper output voltage and amperage. It's adjustable so it would be easier to match the requirement. Check your original linksys adapter then match the output voltage (V) and amperes (A or mA).
