WRT54GS ver.6 disconnection problems

Everytime I turn on my laptop and when it connects automatically or whenever I turn on my gaming consoles (xbox360 and PS3 wired connection) its just drops my desktop's internet for at least 10 sec and then comes back on... already updated the latest firmware and still the same...any suggestions?

As you upgraded the firmware on the router...you need to reset the router for 30 secs in such a way that the power light on the router is blinkin & then you need to unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router. Then you can plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid yo can plug in the power cable to the router & you will be Online!!!

  • WRT54G ver 6 disconnect problem.

every hour or so my computer just drops the connection.
it usually happens when im playing an online game, no matter how close i am to the router it always happens.
is there a way to maybe release some of the strain my game causes on the router?
    im on windows xp.

logon to router's setup page, try changing wireless channel to 11, go to advanced wireless settings reduce beacon interval to 50, reduce fragmentation and rts threshold to 40 by each, also try upgrading latest firmware on the router...check whether it makes any difference or not...

  • WRT54G ver 6.0 problems

I have a good internet connection when I hook the CPU direct from cable modem but every time I try to connect the router I get Limited to no Connectivity. I have tried reseting, and disconnecting and I still can't got online.
I can talk to other computers on the network but can not go online. I have to unplug from the router, and plug into the modem directly to go on line.
I have reset both the modem and router to default, and it still won't work and it did before.
    Thanks
    Ken

Your problem is that your modem and router are using the same 192.168.1.x  address space.
Disconnect the modem and router.   Then, using a computer that is wired to the WRT54G, login to the WRT54G at 192.168.1.1 and change the "Local IP address" to  192.168.2.1  then click on the "Save Settings" button.   Wait 3-60 seconds for the screen to refresh.  You will likely be disconnected from the WRT54G.  Exit your browser and power down your computer and the WRT54G.
Next, reconnect the modem to the Internet port of the WRT54G.  Your system should work.  If not, in your computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall, including Windows Firewall, and see if that helps.  If you still have trouble, login to the WRT54G and verify that "Internet connection type" is set to "DHCP automatic".

  • WRT54G: Pinging and Disconnection Problems

I have the WRT56G and both the wired and wireless connections are very weak. When connecting my computer directly into my cable modem, the connection is very fast and rock solid. For example when I ping linksys.com when connecting directly into my modem, the average latency is about 15ms. When pinging linksys.com using the WRT54G, the latency is a horrendous 3800ms. I've already swapped things 4 times already and every time is the same. Constantly getting disconnected from games, getting 404 errors when visiting websites.

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Also, the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • WRT54G ver. 7 problems

PC connected via cable and it works on a wireless network on a laptop, after some time (5-10 min), it disables the Internet (Skype and the torrent works) no ping (if enabled laptop without a PC, it works fine) if it is to restart it for some reason changing IP address and have to release and renew DHCP. then everything is fine for 5-10 minutes. What is the problem and how to solve it?

Uograde your Router's firmware and then reconfigure it..As you have WRT54G V6 Download 1.67 MB firmware and follow the given steps..
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • WRT54G Ver 6 Internet connectivity problems

    Alright so here's the deal.
I'm on Windows XP with Verizon DSL (in Orange County, CA) that uses a Westell modem (just modem, not modem and router combo).
I have the old Linksys BEFSR41 v.2 router that runs with everything fine.
I just bought the WRT54G Version 6 and connected everything up as needed.  Powered things down and then back up.  And it could not detect an Internet connection, but I could access the router via web browser.
    - Ran the Setup CD and it couldn't find the internet.
    - Upgraded the firmware.
    - I searched the forums and did not find a successful solution.
    - Called my ISP to confirm it is DHCP.
    - Talked to Linksys Support via phone and he had me do all sorts of stuff.  Releasing, Renewing, Local IP Address changes, pinging, MAC, etc.  All this to try to get some sort of IP address with the internet.
    - Tried it with a diff WRT54G Ver 6 (Yeah.  I bought two.  One for me, and one to bring to my parents), and it still didn't work.  (Can't be that both the routers I got are defective.)
    - Searched forums some more and ran across the EasyLink program.  I used it, and it tells me my freaking Wired adaptor is disabled.  Where do I enable it?  Can't be my computer because it all works fine with the old Linksys router I got....or could it?
    - Powered down and back up in many different combinations.
Did all that to no avail.  Anyone got a solution?  I couldn't find anything that worked.  I'm about to go return this and get something else tomorrow.  Maybe if I wake up, there will be a workable solution that is replied back.
Thanks in advance to all those that tried to help and posted something, or didn't post due to having no solution.
    - Chris

Yup Yup Yup.  I tried the WAN address thing and it still didn't work.
I was about to pack everything up and go return the stupid thing.  BUT.....I decided to talk to Verizon DSL support since I hadn't tried that.
    They helped me out good!!!
    Here's the solution.
I plugged in the old router, the BEF, and went to Status to click the DHCP Release.  Then unplugged the old router.
Then per Verizon DSL support instruction....powered down the modem, then powered it back up and waited for lights to stabilize.  Then I plugged in the new router, the WRT.  And went to Status (IP was already autofilled, with internet working) but I still clicked DHCP Renew.
    It all works.  WOOOOOO!!!!
By the way.  The WAN address thing is important.  I went to it on the new, WORKING router and disabled the WAN address.  The internet stopped working.  I re-entered in the WAN address I copied and the internet worked again.  So......yeah.
I hope for all those out there having the same problems as me, and without a solution, see this thread and try this.
Thanks again for your guys' help.
    **edit**
By the way.  Is there a way to stop my internet to being a stickler to this MAC address?  I'm just curious.  I'm gonna go google MAC address and see if I can read anything useful.

  • Xbox360 WRT54GS ver. 6 NAT problems

my xbox 360's NAT is set to strict and prevens me from connecting with a lot of otehr players and my wireless router is a WRT54GS ver. 6

for xbox 360 having NAT problem... you need to call Xbox to ask for the port numbers to open...now if your isp is dsl then call them up and set the modem to bridge to set the rtr to pppoe...in this way we will be able eliminate the multiple NAT issues and for your xbox to work...

  • WRT54G disconnect problem

I have been a loyal Linksys (CISCO) user since buying my 1st Wireless Access Point router/4-port Switch (BEFW1154 v2) in 08/2002. I upgraded to a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router (WRT54G v8.00.2) in 11/2007. My home wireless network supports; IBM Thinkpad (Windows XP) and Lenovo Ideapad (Windows VISTA Home Premium). About a month ago I started having disconnect issues with the WRT54G. Both laptops experienced the disconnects. Initially, I unplugged the WRT54G power for about 1 minute then plugged it back in. This did not resolve the disconnect problem. I then tried to unplug the cable modem and WRT54G power. Wait about 1 minute then plug in the cable modem allowing it to reset and sync up. Then I plugged in the WRT54G. This temporarily resolved the problem for a few minutes but the disconnect problem returned eventually. I reset the WRT54G to the factory default configuration and reconfigured it for my home network. The disconnect problem was not resolved by taking this action. I contacted Cablevision who provides my broadband Internet access. They could not identify a root cause for the disconnect problem. To determine if the root cause was something other than the WRT54G, I reinstalled the BEFW1154. I have not had a disconnect problem since taking this action leading me to believe that the WRT54G is bad. I would appreciate any suggestions that might resolve the disconnect problem except for a suggestion to purchase a new router. THANKS
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I too have had the disconnect problem. I am thinking now that my problem started when I moved the Router next to the printer. I think when the printer is on my router disconnects. I have the printer off this morning and have no problems. Last night the printer was on and both my wife's and my Pc's would lose connection to the router until I unplugged it and plugged it back in.
Is it possible for a printer to throw off the connection? I know my cell phone causes a lot of noise in the speakers if I have it next to the PC.

  • WRT54G ver. 6 --- Connection Problems

I am currently plugged in to the DSL box.  It's working and, obviously, I am online and able to use the internet, BUT when I plug the DSL box and the computer all into the WRT54G ver. 6 Wireless -G Broadband Router, it says I have a connection on both the home computer that it is plugged into and my wireless laptop, but the internet does not work.  All of the lights on the router and the DSL box are lit up and work right.
    I really wish someone would help me out with this. D;

  • WRT54G ver 5.0 refuses ISP?

I have a WRT54G ver 5.0. My ability to connect has become very inconsistent--90% of the time, I need to power down my ISP provided modem prior to connecting. My ISP ran a diagnostic & says that my wireless router is refusing the signal from the ISP. Once I power down/up the modem, it all works fine.
In all attempts to connect, I always get a screen that says I am connected to the router, but the internet can't be found--even when it is a successful connection...
    Would welcome thoughts & suggestions!

Just to save you some time, instead of powering down the modem and rebooting it, just disconnect the ethernet cable that connects the modem and router (with both the router and modem turned on), wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the ethernet cable, and see if that works.
Is this a new setup?  Have your modem and router ever worked properly together?
Please state the make and model of your modem.
    Please state your ISP.
If known, please state what version of firmware you have in your router.
If you connect your computer, by wire, directly to your modem, do you get a properly working Internet connection?
If you connect your computer, by wire, directly to the router, do you get a properly working Internet connection?
Are you having problems with a wired or wireless Internet connection, or both?

  • WRT54G Ver 1.1 Firmware Upgrade

I was experiencing some connection problems that were causing me to cycle the power on my router a few times a week. I decided to upgrade the firmware to 4.21.1 hoping to resolve this issue. The firmware upgrade completed and all configuration settings were put back as I had before the upgrade.
Since the update, I cannot connect to the internet through my DSL when connecting through the router. I can connect to the internet when my computer is directly connected to the modem. I called Linksys and I was told to reset the router three times. Had no results.
Can anyone help me out with this? Or is there a place where I can download the old firmware that I originally had?
    I have a WRT54G ver 1.1 and Bellsouth DSL
    Thanks

Message Edited by JOHNDOE_06 on 11-20-2007 08:55 AM

    --Update--
I solved the problem. The Bellsouth DSL modem is in bridge mode after it is either reset (hard button) or configured via the web utility.
WITHOUT connecting the router to the modem, configure the router to be PPPoE insted of DHCP. If the router is connected to the modem while still in DHCP mode, the modem will assume the router is a computer. This will kick the modem out of bridge mode.
So the steps to solve the problem are:
    1) Disconnect ethernet between router and modem.
    2) Reset modem / put in bridge mode.
    3) Connect to router via web utility and configure PPPoE settings.
    4) Connect router and DSL modem via ethernet cable.
