WRT54GS - Web page loads slow or not at all

My parents have two wireless laptops accessing their WRT54GS.  Both receive excellent signal strength.  Web pages load at normal speed for the first unit to access the internet on their network.  However, the web pages will take forever or not load at all for the second computer, despite the fact that the signal strength to the second computer remains excellent.  It does not matter which connects first and which is second; the problem still occurs.
I might mention that the computers and the router were purchased on Dec. 23, so everything should be current, with the exception of the 12/28/06 firmware release for the router.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

hi...you can try different wireless settings on the router...
channel -- 1,9 or 11
under advanced wireless settings ,
beacon interval  - 75
frag threshold    -  2304
RTS                   -  2304
if this does not make any difference then upgrading the firmware could help you....

  • Web pages loading slowly or not at all in all browsers

I don't know why I'm having this problem.... for the last few weeks now.    95% of the time, web pages (for me.... particularly in Ancestry.com and Ebay) load very slowly, or don't load at all.  The other 5% of the time, it appears to work normally.  I don't seem to have a problem with most other web pages.   The problem occurs in all three of my browsers - Safari, Chrome and Firefox.    I have dumped all my history and cookies.  I have scanned my computer for malware/spyware with MacScan (which I just installed tonight).   I am having the same problem on both my laptop (macbook pro) and my iMac.   Again.... this problem started just a few weeks ago.   I have tried everything I know to fix the problem, but haven't found a solution yet.  It is very frustrating.  Why would I only be having an issue with browsing on Ancestry and Ebay....and nowhere else?   HELP!!

I'm having the same issue, except its not just web pages. It's apps, like facebook and getting emails. It's only a problem when I'm on my home wifi. If I shut the wifi off and use mobile data, everythings much faster.
I contacted Samsung and have a ticket open with them, but there's nothing else they can do for me. I've tried running in safe mode, and resetting to factory settings, but no luck. My next step is to contact Verizon, but I wanted to check here first. Funny thing is I did a google search, and others are complaining of the same issue. I'll update if I ever get it fixed!

  • Web pages load slowly or not at all.

At least half the web pages I try to access load slowly or not at all, especially those I am accessing for the first time. This problem has been getting worse over the past few months. I ran the Wireless Diagnostics test, and it said there didn't seem to be a problem.     I am using a Belkin G Wireless Router, and only use the MacBook Air at home.  The PHY Mode is 802.11g.  What should I do?

Try going to Speedtest.net (if you can ) and see what your speeds are. If they seem fine then try turing off or resetting your router. If that doesn't work it might be something with the Wi-Fi antena within the MacBook Air. Try connecting it via Ethernet.

  • Safari 6.0.1 page loading slow or not at all

    Friends,
I have scoured the message boards of many self help communities and cannot find a great deal to resolve my question and that of many others -  Safari taking ages to load a page or not at all - having to hit reload several times to get the page to load. I have tried Firefox and Chrome with no problems on the same web pages. This has only started in the last week or so. I am on OS 10.8.2. I have treid the following solutions which do not work for me:
    Resetting Safari
Manually and with software dumping of Safari and Java caches
    Disabling all Extensions
    Removing all Website Data
Removing Safari's folder to create a complete new one in ~Library
    Changing DNS
    Turning off Prefetch DNS
    Checkiing for virii
    Turning off virus software
    Starting up in Safe Mode
    Repairing Permissions
    Repairing Prefs
Starting up in a Test Guest account
    Unsyncing Safari from iCloud
Making sure of my router having the latest firmware
All to no avail. Anything I am missing here in an attempt to solve this issue?
Thanks for reading this and cheers for now,
    sam

Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network. If the Network preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Hardware tab. Select  Configure: Manually and MTU: Custom. Enter an MTU value of 1280. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
You must apply the change before it takes effect.
If the issue is resolved, experiment with higher MTU values until you find the highest one that works. The higher the MTU, the better the network interface will perform.
If changing the MTU has no effect, restore the Configure setting to Automatically.

  • Web pages load slowly or not at all, but internet connection is fine. Can anyone recommend a fix?

Please help!  I have a long standing problem with my MacBook Pro, whereby I experience the following symptoms:
    - Webpages sometimes load very slowly.  The URL is displayed in the address field, but the progress bar appears stuck.  Only very slowly does the web page then load.
    - Webpages sometimes do not load at all.
    - Webpages sometimes load incomplete.  Eg. Only part of the website appears, for example the top bar; or certain images fail to load.
    However...
    - My internet connection is fine. Mobile devices / iPad / work PC all work perfectly well on the same wifi. The problem is isolated to my MacBook Pro
    - Clearing the cache, resetting the browser etc do not eliminate or reduce the problem
    - Changing to OpenDNS does not fix the problem
    - The problem is not specific to Safari.  I experience the same on Chrome, Firefox etc.
    - Switching it off and on again does not work either (in case anyone suggests it!)
I'm running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and my MacBook Pro is from early 2011.
    Suggestions welcome!

  • Why is my internet fine but web pages load slowly or not at all?

Hello. I'm going to try and keep this as simple as possible. Last night I went to use my imac and for some reason every wed page I would try and go to either wouldn't open, would time out, or would load so slowly as to be almost no use at all. I reset my modem (I use a wired, ethernet connection) and everything was fine with the internet connection (or so it seemed) because I checked to see if I was able to torrent for instance and that worked just fine. The problem seemes to be based solely around browsing the internet (using both safari and chrome). I'm not sure what's going on and would appriciate any help. Thanks.

Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

  • Web pages load SLOW on IPad: how to disable DNS prefetching; other ideas?

Brand new IPad 16 GB WiFi + brand new Airport Extreme in bridge mode. Comparing IPad web page load speeds with side-by-side WinXP computer running IE8. Any web site will do: take www.apple.com if you want.
Problem: IPad web pages generally load much too slowly compared to IE8 on a computer 6 inches away on the same Airport Extreme network. Maybe twice as slow at worst, occasionally not much slower, but generally pathetic and annoying. WiFi signal strength is "excellent". Airport Extreme network is working great with all my (Windows) computers and devices except the IPad.
I already switched to OpenDNS on my Airport Extreme; didn't help noticeably. I would like to try disabling DNS prefetching in Safari, but don't know how to do it on the IPad. Question #1: How do I disable DNS prefetching? Question #2: Any other suggestions for this embarrassing (to Apple) problem?

I'm experiencing a similar problem with a new iPad 2 using iOS 4.3.3 connected to the Internet via Time Machine to a DSL line.  The Speedtest X HD App shows the connection speed to be fine (about .6 Mb / s).  The problem is only with accessing web pages.  I frequently get a "server not responding" msg.  There is no problem when I connect the device via USB to an iMac, only through wifi.  The iMac itself (Intel with OSX 10.6.7) periodically experiences problems (both Firefox and Safari):  I have learned to solve it by cleaning out cache and fixing disk permissions periodically.  I've tried cleaning out cache on the iPad, deleting cookies and erasing web history, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.  The problem reminds me of an old VNC problem:  you had to allocate a large amount of cache or streaming would stall.  This is also happening with the iPad 2.  Maybe the problem is a DNS channel issue but my impression is that it is somehow related to a memory or cache issue with the iOS device or to Airport.  I've occassionally experienced similar slow page loading problems with other Airport connected devices--it varies from device to device.  It seems to be a client-side software or caching problem.

  • Mid-2009 iMac w/ 4gb ram.  Since Maverick web pages load excruciatingly slowly (if at all).

My wifi is an Airport connected to Comcast modem (no issues prior to Maverick upgrade).  Sometimes if I turn off the wifi at the iMac end then turn it back on, and then reload the page, it'll come up at normal speed.  I've tried a Safari reset and disabling DNS prefetching with no effect.  Occasionally pages will load normally, but most of the time will be slow (at or below old dial-up speeds), and about 50% of the time the progress bar in Safari will go about 1/3 - 1/5 of the way and then just stop (with the page not loading at all).  Any ideas?  In advance, many thanks!

  • My home videos will either load slow or not at all. what is best format to use. all mine are mp4

after updating itunes all my home movies seem to struggle to load which are in my itunes. i am not sure if this because of the amount of home movie i have but they are all store in a thunderbolt drive through my imac.
this all seems to have happened during the last update or is it because of something else
do i need to convert all my media from mp4 to a apple tv friendly format?

What sort of bitrate are your movies. They are in the right format, but they may just be too large, 10 Mbps or less should be your target.

  • Slow web page loads on Mac, but not for PC

I use a D-Link wireless router (DI-524) for my PowerBook G4 15" and my roommate's Dell PC. Very recently I seem to get very slow web page loads with some pages not even loading at all.
Airport is consistently connected with no drops at all and when I'm downloading something it never gets interrupted the whole way through.
My roommate's PC has no problem whatsoever and all of the web pages that he visits load instantly. It seems that my main problem is with web pages.
I've tried doing a clean install on my Powerbook, I've tried resetting the router (I've tried upgrading the firmware but the router decided it didn't want to work with the new version). And surprisingly, I get the same slow speeds when I hook up my Powerbook to my router via ethernet cable. The only time my speeds are perfectly fine is when I hook up my Powerbook directly to the wall (I dorm in a university so we have a T3 line).
Can someone please give me some advice on this very frustrating issue?

In addition to Neds suggestions, empty the Safari cache (which should be empty after a clean install).
Goto the Safari Get Info screen (in Finder or in Dock if you have Safari there), click the triangle on languages, and disable those you don't use.
My Safari response time was significantly slowed after the 10.4.5 update, and using the combo updater took care of that. The 10.4.6 combo update is located here.

  • System slow and certain web pages load slowly

For six month's I have been trying to determine what is wrong.
    Back ground os: Maverick 10.9.4.
I think I may have found the trouble.
When I shut down the computer, a box opens and ask's
to continue the download or abort?
    So, I always abort.
I have done all the maintenance and permissions and reset
the Pram and Sms. (I think that's it?)
The last time I posted a tecky had me download EtreCheck software.
And I was able to find a lot of bad or damaged files.
I ran it today and under, Top Processes by C.P.U.: ( In red) was
    100% installer.
I can not tell which or what installer?
    And how to find this?
My whole system is slow or unresponsive and web pages
    sometime's do not load.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thank you,
    John

    Found the culprit. ( WOOHOO ! )
I went into the library and under logs,
found a file called: com.apple.Tcc and
it had a red icon on the bottom.
So I re- ran EtreCheck and it was gone.
    By maintenance, I mean, Permissions.
I hope this solved the problem?
Thank you to all for your assistance.
If this does not solve it I will be back.

  • Web page VERY slow to load

I created a website in Dreamweaver CS3, but the gallery page loads very slow.  I believe it's from the images, but they want to keep all those images and that size.  I used IrfanView to compress the images but to me, the page still loads slow.  Here is the web page http://www.kmmcement.com/gallery.html.  Is there anything else I can do to help the web page load faster?  Thank you!

I think you're missing the point.
You need to actually resize each fullsize image to make a smaller image which will be your thumbnail. Then compress.
    e.g.http://www.kmmcement.com/gallery/DSC00486.JPG is 3264px x 2448px.
    1. You need to resize that image in Irfanview to 240px x 216px then compress it.
    2. Then insert the 240px x 216px thumbnail in your page. (Not the fullsize image which takes far too long to load)
    3. Then link each thumbnail to its fullsize version (3264 px x 2448px which is still too big dimensionally for a webpage)
    4. Same steps are required for all the fullsize images.

  • Web pages and/or images not loading

This problem started a few weeks ago once every few days or so, then got more and ore frequent where now it is happening multiple times each day.
I am using Safari 6.1 on an iMac running OS 10.7.5
Random web pages (some way more than others) will not load when I go to them. Sometimes, the text of the pages will load, but no images. Sometimes the URL progress bar will go across about an inch and the screen will go to blank white (this is most often) and it will just sit there. If I leave it alone, usually the web page will finally load about 4-10 minutes later on its own.
I have talked with my ISP and we have tried the following fixes, with no positive results:
When the problem happens, I try pinging the website {using Network utilities) and it always pings just fine.
When the problem happens, I run Traceroute (using Network utilities) and email him a screen shot of the results.
I have changed my DNS numbers to OpenDNS, per his comments.
I have removed the router and plugged in direct.
I have replaced all my Cat5 cables with new Cat6 cables.
While the problem is happening, he can ping me just fine from his end.
When the problem happens, I open Firefox and go to the same site, and have the same blank results in Firefox.
When the problem happens, I can open a new Safari window and go to other sites just fine.
This morning, I had the same issues, so I left it to clear on its own. I then went to Outlook to check my email and I had two emails where the images would not load at all, just like the web pages. So I left it alone for over 20 minutes and still no loading. Then I quit Outlook, re-opened it and the images came in just fine. During that 20 minutes, the web pages loaded in Safari in the background.
I found and read a discussion about this issue  (  https://discussions.apple.com/message/22125235#22125235  ) and per that conversation, I created a GUEST user account, closed out of my account and logged in as a GUEST. I then used Safari to browse the web ans while it was faster, eventually after about 30 minutes, I found a page that would not load (one of my usual suspect pages). I then sat back and let it go and after 5 minutes, the page loaded just fine.
    HELP!!!!!
    John

    Interesting side note . . .
After writing this (above), I clicked on the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page and the screen went blank white and it sat there for more than five minutes, when it finally went through. SO, i had my problem occur while submitting my question about the problem!
    Awesome!

  • WRT350n Firmware Update 1.03.7 - Web page load really slow after update

Well I updated my WRT350N with the new firmware, but now web pages load very slowly, and streaming video is even slower. Before the update it was blazing fast. I run a mixed network of wireless N and G. Both Wireless N connections connect at 200 or higher Mbps now, which is a great improvement.
Anybody got any ideas why web pages and steaming video run so slow now.
Also downloading files never goes above 30 kb/sec now.
I use comcast cable and downloads were so fast before.
    Thanks in advance.

check the download speed and the streaming video when the computer is directly connected to the modem

  • My Internet Connection is Fast, but Web Pages load slowl

I have tested my connection on several websites. I am using RoadRunner and I consistently get speeds between 3500-4500 kbps. In the past few days I have the same internet speed but all my web pages load really slow. Up until this problem I would click on a link and it would take 2-3 seconds to load the next page. Now it is more like 15-20 seconds. Once I get a page loaded if I download something from that site it is still a fast download.
Any ideas on what could have slowed loading web pages , but download speed still shows really fast?
    Your help is appreciated
    Cheers
    mrjazz

If your download speeds are still fast, it is most likely the broswer that is slow in rendering the pages.
Are you using Safari and if so, do you leave it open all the time? Safari is notorious for hogging RAM and CPU cycles and slowing to a crawl if you do not quit and restart it.
