WRT54Gv5 cannot reach certain sites some times

Every so often (maybe once every day or so) none of the three computers I have wirelessly connected to my WRT54Gv5 router can reach certain sites. Using tracert from the router's Diagnostic page displays nothing. Pinging these sites from the Diagnostic page either shows "Unknown host" or "DNSRDSocketRecev: FdPoll Timeout".
The sites I have found this normally effects are (please don't judge me by the list :
www.papajohnsonline.com
www.washingtonpost.com
www.worldofwarcraft.com
If I can't hit one of them, normally I can't hit any of them but other sites like CNN or Yahoo work fine. Some times it effects Google but not all the time. When I unplug/replug in the router and once the computer reconnects to the router, everything is back to normal for a day or two.
I was hoping the latest firmware update (1.01.0) would resolve it but it didn't.
I've also noticed that when this problem happens getting to the router's admin page is really slow and is some times completely unresponsive.
I called Linksys support about this many times a while ago and they weren't all that helpful. They had me changing the MTU to a different size each time I called. None of settings fixed it. They also had me switch from DHCP to a static IP which didn't fix it either.
Anyone else have any other ideas?
Thanks!
Pat

great_white, thanks much for your reply.
I've got the MTU at 1492 but the problem still occurs (expected but I appreciate the tip to keep it at 1492).
I ran "netsh winsock reset catalog" and it runs but says I have to restart the machine to complete the reset. I'd rather not have to do that on all machines.
"ipconfig/flushdns" runs successfully but doesn't resolve the problem.
Sigh. Thanks, anyway!
Guess when this router dies completely (or another need to upgrade comes up) I'll buy a D-Link or something.

  • Two Issues: Cannot connect to wireless networks; Cannot load certain sites

    Hey everybody,
    I have a MacBook Pro 15".
In just the past week, I've stumbled upon two sudden problems with my network/internet connectivity.
First, I can no longer connect to wireless networks, be it an infrastructure point or computer-to-computer ad-hoc networks. I'm not really sure why. I installed the latest AirPort Update (4.2.3, according to System Profiler). I also recently installed both iStumbler and KisMac v.21. When I started having issues, I thought that maybe one of these two programs might be the culprit, so I uninstalled both of them but I still have the same problem.
Second, I've had issues with not being able to connect to certain websites. I use both Safari and BonEcho as my browsers. The specific sites seem random:
    www.weffriddles.com
    www.macrumors.com
    images.google.com
    sports.yahoo.com
    finance.yahoo.com
    to list a few.
If you need any diagnostic information, please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any advice/help you can provide!

MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   browsers: Safari, BonEcho/ Airport Driver Version: 4.2.3

If you are trying to connect to a third-party router using WPA or WEP, there is a good chance that your Airport card was broken by Apple's 2007-02 Airport Update. There is no fix, and for many of us, our Macbooks and Macbook Pros are useless for wireless connections until Apple fixes the issue. At this point, Apple seems to be denying that there even is an issue, so we may all be in for a long wait indeed.

  • Firefox sometimes loads certain sites, most times won't load.

After I installed the noscript addon, it seems my firefox won't load certain pages. Firefox also updated itself on the same day.. which of these two are my problem? Some videos will also not load(e.g. youtube videos will say an error has occurred and keeps telling me to try later). It was fine yesterday... but today it seems all messed up. and Yes I have allowed noscript to allow these sites... I just don't know whats wrong..

  • On certain sites, some lines have the lower half missing. Changing the font or its size does not help. The error does not appear with Iceape or Chromium.

On some sites certain lines appear with the bottom half missing, as if obliterated. Changing the font or its size does not help. The error does not appear with Iceape or Chromium.

I looks that the whole line doesn't fit in the container, so the bottom part is cut off. The usual cause is that a font is used that takes more vertical space, so any increase or changes from the font in what the website prescribes can cause this issue. I've seen web pages that were even affected by changing the minimum font size from none to 1 (!). If you do not have the font installed that the website specifies then Firefox will fallback to another (default) font that may have different dimensions.

  • Firefox was infected with a virus or spywar and now tries to pop up a certain site every time I load a new page or refresh.

A few days ago my computer was infected with a virus from my antivirus license running out without me knowing it. Ever since then every time I load a page in firefox or refresh it a pop up window to a site that my ESET antivirus blocks comes up. This will not stop and I can't figure out how to fix it. I've deleted all temporary files on my comp and tried reinstalling firefox from scratch and still won't go away. I'm running out of things to try and not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.<br />
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • Cannot open certain sites properly

cannot build a vehicle on ford website
cannot use kawartha pine ridge website
have problems on john deere site as well when logged in as a dealer

Without seeing the URL's, I can only guess the sites you listed are not Safari-friendly. Usually, when Safari does not cooperate, I switch to either Firefox or Camino browsers. Might want to give either a try.

  • Cannot reach support site

Hi folks, feedback on the website: looking for warranty info, many blank links.  First example: click on Support from wdc.com, this entirely blank page comes up: http://support.wdc.com/?wdc_lang=en. I found a different support site:https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/ind/id_home Tried to register a drive. It took the info, then said 0 products registered.  Is the warranty period less than 18 months? There was no error message. Just failure. UPDATE: these links are working now, but now on the Warranty Check page here:https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/ind/id_warrantycheck I get "System Request timed out, please try again later"

    Hi, welcome to the community.
Thanks for letting us now that the support website was down, and also for the update when it was backup.

When I try to log onto a secure website, such as a bank or tax office, when you hit the log on button, firefox opens a new window, not in a tab, with just the address bar at the top saying search bookmarks and history, and goes no further. This has only happened recently, the problem does not occur in safari.

  • Spent some time trying to find a Safari download site with no success.  Where is the iMac Safari download site?

Spent some time trying to find a Safari download site with no success.  I found lots of Safari sites but no Safari download site.  Where is the iMac Safari download site?

(The following does not apply to users of Lion OS 10.7 or later)
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have) and it is misbehaving:
N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings, and don't change the application's name or move it from the top level of the Applications Folder to a sub-folder.
(If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall. Alternatively you can download Safari directly:
Safari 4.1.3 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1422
Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
Also, observe the recommended procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4, Tiger 10.4.11 uses Safari 4.1.3, Leopard uses Safari 5.0.6,  and Snow Leopard uses Safari 5.1.x. If these latest versions of Safari are not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari  can have repercussions, as previous versions of Safari used a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet, and the dreaded CT Toolbar. If you have them, trash them, and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for the latest version of Safari on your current operating system.
You must also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates. These require a restart and a permission repair.
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
    Home/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
Lastly, the Safari updates require a restart of your Mac, and sometimes even a double restart is required.

  • Tried some things Safari 4 crashes on certain sites...help new mac user

I have a brand new imac, 1 month old. Only thing I installed on it was Firefox but didn't really like it so I'm using Safari 4. However, on certain sites it was randomly crash. I would reopen Safari and it would work like nothing happened until another random site. This happens once every day or so. I removed the "Java Cocoa" plugin and the "assistance" box is unchecked in Preferences. What plug-ins do I really need for Safari and what happens if I remove them all? Can you help me out? Thanks.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The next time Safari unexpectedly quits, select "report" on the Quit Panel. Then, copy/paste the entire crash report to your reply here. Perhaps the crash report will shed some light on what is occurring.
