WRT54GX-2 and Yahoo DSL.

I have searched on this forum regarding my problem. but I can't find anything that seems to relate to my problem. I have a WRT54GX-2 SRX router I am trying to connect to a yahoo dsl gateway. If I leave the device disconnected from the modem, I can connect to the router and access configuration. However, when I connect it to the modem, I can connect to it. But I have no connection to anything, I don't have local network, or even the ability to access 192.168.1.1. I'm not sure why connecting it to a yahoo dsl gateway would mess with the router in such a way... I have been using the router on the go for awhile now, and haven't had any problems with it untill today. Since I can't see a reason why it would be doing this, I'm clueless where to go to fix this problem.

Problem solved... I was using a Motorola DSL modem. My problem didn't lie in my router. But the Modem apparantly also routes internet. Always a good idea to make sure you aren't creating two of the same IP spectrum. I didn't catch this untill I furthur investigated the modem when post 2 asked me what model of modem it is.

  • WRT54GX2 and Yahoo dsl

    Hello,
    Hardware Below:
    System: G5 OSX version 10.4.9
    Router: WRT54GX2
    Modem: Siemens Speedstream 4100b
    ISP: ATT Yahoo DSL
I'm having some trouble with my Yahoo DSL connection staying active on the router I have. I've had the router since release and used it great with comcast for a couple years with out issue. However since I've made the horrible switch to DSL due to budget I'm pestered with a constant loss of connection.
I tried enabling pppoe on the router but it won't connect to the dsl service. It connects with the DHCP settings I used for comcast however after not using it say over night the connection just drops and I'm forced to power cycle the modem. Is there a way for my router to ping something every 30 seconds or 10 minutes to keep my connection up? I have no way of updating the firmware as I don't see a package designed for the Mac and I'm not sure if it would work using a virtual PC.
Any suggestions from the folks here at linksys or any other users having the same problem?
    Thanks

You could possibly call up the Service Personnel at the
Help Desk, of your Internet Service Provider , and state
them to convert the Modem to Bridge Mode.
When the Modem is bridged, the ISP will authenticate
the Request from the Router, only using the Username
    and Password from your ISP.
    So, Bridge the Modem,
Get the Username and Password from them,
In the Router's Setup Page, Under PPPoE
Settings, Enter the Username [ in the format username@
    ISPname.com/.net ] and Password , Save Settings.
Below the Setup Tab of the Router's Console,
Change the MTU from "AUTO" to "MANUAL" , and
Set the Size to 1400, Save the Settings,
Powercycle the Modem and the Router.
    Check the Connections.
If problem persists, plz revert back . . .

  • Mail and SBC Yahoo DSL

I'd been using a dial-up AOL account previously and so never bothered setting up a Mail account on my iMac until I got SBC Yahoo DSL last month. Now I'm using Safari to access the Internet but have been unable to set up a Mail account and thus still have to log into AOL to send and receive mail. Every time I try, the computer tells me it is unable to confirm my settings. What process do I need to follow to set up Mail so that I can get rid of AOL?

You can set up your AOL email account in Mail as an IMAP type account per the instructions provided in this link.
    http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html
SBC blocks the use of all SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25 even if authenticated such as the AOL SMTP server. The instructions provided include entering 587 as the SMTP server port.
If this doesn't allow you to send a message with your AOL account using Mail, you need to contact SBC and "opt out" of Port 25 blocking even though you are using 587 as the server port for AOL's SMTP server. I believe you can "opt out" online at SBC's website.

    Here is my dilemma....
I currently use aol as my email account. I have att/yahoo dsl. I am trying to configure my iMail so that i can use my aol account but use my dsl as my outgoing. I have tried all the suggestions on most of this board. I did the aol service assisant which gave me so much hope, but then I go this message, "missing domain in rcpt command" after that I started changing and doing many of the suggestions on the message boards... called att/yahoo they were no help. Any takers????

  • Yahoo DSL from Dell Desktop to ibook-wirless via Airport Extreme

Greetings. I have just ordered a ibook G4 to replace my Dell Dimension desktop PC running Windows XP. I am currently wired to my DSL modem (Speedstream) with SBC Yahoo DSL as my ISP. I want to do the following and need some help: 1) move my Internet settings from my Dell Desktop to my new ibook, which will become my primary machine used (would like to use my Dell for only a couple of programs that are Windows only--and then only occasionally at that); 2) once Internet settings have been set up and are working as it should, I'd like to then set up my soon to arrive Airport Exteme base station to my modem and be wireless with the full 802.11g Wi-Fi capabilities. Anyone who may have experience with similar tasks that may be able to assist me? I can't wait for my machine to arrive, and I want to make sure the setup frustration, esp. w/ the 'net set up and going wireless, is eased. Also, through from anyone who's made a similar switch from desktop using the Windows platform to a 12" ibook G4 (80GB hard drive and 1GB RAM) and how that's been as their only/primary machine would be nice to hear as well? Cheers, robyn.
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

ya i believe you are right.
on my new Palm Lifedrive i first entered in the ip for google and it worked immidiately.
oddly enough i entered in apple.com and that worked also so i am gonna try other devices.
in the even its a dns issue what would be the resolution?

  • Watching CNN and Yahoo videos with mplayer-plugin [SOLVED]

I had a hell of a time trying to view CNN videos (http://www.cnn.com) and Yahoo videos with mplayer-plugin (firefox) and didn't seem to find any solutions in a forum search.
    The following worked for me:
To get it working at all, I had to edit /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf and add/edit the following options:
    noembed=1
To get smooth video and sound without choppy playback, I had to add/edit the following options to /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf:
    cachesize = 1024
These value for cachesize will obviously vary depending on your internet connection.  But, with my DSL/broadband connection, the default cachesize of 512 was for some reason resulting in *very* choppy playback.  The cachsize of 1024 fixed everything.
I can now view CNN and Yahoo videos with no problem.
Just thought I'd share if anyone is having similar problems.

    Thanks

  • Help to configure Airport to recognize Yahoo DSL

I just changed from dial-up to Yahoo DSL, but need some experienced help to get my DSL signal to go through my Airport Extreme. I have read all the topics that are related, printed out the soft/hard reset procedures, but want some knowledgable info, if possible, before I commit to any major action. The Yahoo DSL did not give me an option of a wireless port when I installed it- it offered only modem or Ethernet connections, and I chose Eternet (which works if plugged into my G4, but not the Airport). Is this a Yahoo software issue? or can this be resolved by a rest and putting in Yahoo details in the Network fields? Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you- Dave

  • Still losing Internet connection - SBC Yahoo DSL

My setup includes a new 17 inch Powerbook G4, AEBS, and a Speedstream modem connected to is SBC Yahoo DSL. I have configured my AEBS based on the recommendations I have read on these forums and have also downgraded the Base Station firmware to 5.5.1.
Unfortunately, my AEBS still loses the internet connection intermittently. This requires me to power cycle the Base Station, after which the connection is restored.
I'm really not sure what else to try, so any help would be appreciated.

Not to worry. I signed up for SBC Yahoo DSL June 2004. Your installation instructions, DSL installer CD, and your selected HomePortal will be very easy to install. Just follow the instructions that are sent to you after you sign up for the the SBC service. I connected my eMac using the ethernet connection and a PC using the USB connection. The HomePortal that I requested is also wireless so I can also connect wirelessly when and if I want too.
FYI, before I purchased the SBC Yahoo DSL service, I checked out the HomePortal that was to be furnished in June 2004. This equipment was coming from a company called 2Wire (www.2WIRE.com). I went to their web sit and checked out their "frequently asks questions and answers", support, video clip, etc, which made me comfortable before the HomePortal arrived. Depending on which SBC service you selected will depend on what hardware you will get. Hope you will have the same success that I had.

APPLE IIc, iMac 333, HP notebook   Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

    you can try this :
1)check the ip add on the computer when connected to the 2wire modem
2)if the ip add is 192.168.1.x , then connect the computer to the router's port#1
3)access the setup page of the wrt300n using http://192.168.1.1 . the default password is admin
4)change the local ip add to 192.168.1.2 and disable the DHCP server in it ..

  • Problem with JRE and Yahoo applets

Hi, I couldn't find any answer for this anywhere else...
Whenever I try to play a Yahoo game, certain windows will "shake". For example, if I log into yahoo, then go to play their spades game, the applet will load without any problem. The game room will appear and everything seems to be fine. But if I click on the Start Panel, the borders of the Start menu will "shake" If I right click on anything, that menu will also shake. This only occurs while JRE is running the yahoo applet. Once I leave the yahoo game, everything returns to normal. If I use IE and MSVM, this problem does not occur. This problem does not seem to occur with other instances of Java either. Only Yahoo games. I tried searching Yahoo for an answer to this, but didn't find anything. When I tried getting help from them, they replied with an email to update Java and/or my browsers. Well, I am using version 1.4.2_04 of java, and have IE6 updated as of today. Also, I am using Opera version 7.54 and Firefox 0.93. This problem with Java and Yahoo occurs no matter which browser I am using. The only way to keep this from happening seems to be to use IE with MSVM. Any ideas?

That page does apply. Everything that you have written indicates conclusively that the Yahoo game you're playing is the source of the problem. The fact that it works with the MS jvm but not with the Sun jvm, that the Sun jvm works with other Java applets, etc all say the same thing - that Yahoo applets wer/are coded to work with the MS jvm, which uses MS extensions in violation of the Sun/MS licensing agreements. The statement at the bottom of the page is proof positive - your spades game is not listed by Yahoo as being fixed.
"07/17/03 - From Yahoo! Customer Care:
We have deployed a fix for the incompatibilities with the Sun JVM in the following games:
    Chess Gin Cribbage Euchre Bridge
Hearts Toki Toki Boom Graffiti Pool
We plan to upgrade the rest of the games on an ongoing basis. "

  • Safari and yahoo mail not getting along

Safari and Yahoo Mail don't seem to be getting along this past month

    Hi powerbook1701!
It is a shame...Yahoo has always been bad with Safari...I think most people here keep a copy of Firefox/Camino for cases like this when webdesigners don't make their pages compatible with Safari. It's not much of a problem anymore but there are still a few sites depending on where you surf...
Actually the reason I started using Mail is because the standard Yahoo mail wouldn't display custom fonts, etc. on Mac. At that time not even with Firefox for Windows. But I'm glad that I switched because I enjoy using Mail much more that Yahoo's webmail which by the way was never good at searching...
Oops this sounds like Yahoo bashing!!! It's not meant to be...just letting you know other people have the same issues you're experiencing...

  • I have Exchange and Yahoo accounts on my iPhone 4. At least 1 email a day I send as a reply fails to leave my outbox of my Exchange account.

I have Exchange and Yahoo accounts on my iPhone 4. At least 1 email I send from out thru my Exchange account fails to send and it simply refuses to leave the outbox. The only guaranteed way of sending it is to change the sender to my yahoo account. Note that is ONLY occurs on replies to existing emails, never new emails.
It is only certain mails that fail. Even if I delete the mail and write another reply it will still fail.
Could it be content related? It happened on IOS4 & 5.
I've asked one of the staff in the Apple shop and he said he's seen this before but doesnt know the answer - not really helpful if you're trying to work off your iPhone :-(

    Thanks razmee209.
I would agree with you if I still couldnt send the reply by changing the sender to my yahoo account; but as I mentioned before - whenever the mail fails to send, I can ALWAYS send it by changing the sender to my yahoo account.
I agree that it must be something within the original mail, but why does it trigger a failure if I reply from my exchange account and not my yahoo yahoo account.
I can delete the Exchange account and re-add it, but it makes no difference. I've also rebooted the phone but again, no difference.

  • On my iphone4 i need to be able to use both TDS and Yahoo e-mail.  TDS works only sporadically.  For instance, today I was able to both send and receive, then an hour later could not send.  got the message that the server was not recognized.

On my iphone4 I need to be able to receive and send both TDS and Yahoo e-mail accounts (I also need to access from my Macbook Pro and my HP desktop).  I have NO problem with Yahoo, but with TDS, the e-mail seemed to work on my phone.... and then it didn't.)  In adding the TDS account, I chose "other" ( TDS is somehow accessed on the back end through gmail).  For the incoming server I used the Incoming Sever Name of pop.gmail.com and the Outgoing Mail Server as smtp.gmail.com.  I have using SSL "on" and the server port is 995.  Is this setup correct for TDS?

FYI: POP will by default, delete messages from the server after downloading them (This applies to most pop clients, computer or mobile). POP is old tech and is not recommended if IMAP or Exchange are available. The default when setting up a g-mail type account is IMAP. Full synchronization with the server. You may also be able to set it up as an Exchange account, allowing for push e-mail and sync of calendars and contacts as well. See the Gmail help pages for instructions.
