WRT54GX Wireless Failure, Empty Wireless MAC, No Wireless Light???

I have a WRT54GX v2 wireless router which has worked fine for a long time. I had it disconnected for a while and when I reconnected it, the wireless part of it no longer works. I've reset it. Hardware reset it. Restored factory defaults. Upgraded firmware to 2.00.20. Nothing seems to matter. Wireless is definitely enabled and configured properly via the web interface but no matter what, wireless no longer works. In the status page, the MAC address for the wireless router is blank: Wireless MAC Address: Mode: MIXED SSID: linksys Channel: Encryption Mode: Disabled Channel will also be blank if I leave it configured as auto, it will show up as the right channel if I manually select a channel. So has anyone seen this? Is the wireless functionality of this box hosed and I need to junk it or is there any remedy?

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
5) Power down the router.
6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • P1102w no longer working on wireless, lights don't blink

I just moved and have not been able to get the wireless working on my printer. We have an apple time capsule (airport) router that moved with us, so it should be the same wireless network we connect through. Tried reinstalling, but when I go through says it can't find a network even when I put in the SSID in the advanced settings. The wireless light is not blinking at all.
Self test says: wireless status: enabled, SSID: correct, network status: not connected.
I have tried resetting, reinstalling, and re-plugging in everything.
Any idea of what could be wrong? Is the wireless radio broken?

    Hi @number1jon,
I see by your post that since you moved that printer isn't working on the wireless network. I can help you with this, but I will need to know what operating system you are using, for more specific setup steps.
The network information would be from the old location, the router would most likely assign the printer a new IP address at the new location.
Restore the printer to default settings.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
    Run the setup again.
Here is a generic document for setting up the wireless. Installing the Printer on a Wireless Network.
What operating system are you using?
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
Does the configuration page show if the Wireless Direct is enabled and does it show a IP address?

  • Photosmart Plus b209 - won't see networks, won't run WPS, wireless light ON

    Hello.
So I've had a Photosmart Plus b209 for the past three years. Never had a problem. Suddenly I switch my router to a Linksys e2500 and everything stops working.
I've printed network tests; my printer has no IP address, even when I revert to factory settings. Though the printout tests indicate the printer can "see" my network, I am not able to get it to detect it via the touch-screen menu. WPS also refuses to work, either prompting an error message or a time-out. The wireless light has been on this whole time.
I'm on a Mac, running OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). I'm starting to get very frustrated. What can I do?

Status of the blue wireless light on the printer, on, off blinking?  Verified you are connected to your SSID with correct password?  What is the IP of the printer?

  • WRV200 Wireless light keeps blinking, no clients connected.

    Hi,
Sorry if this is a silly question, but im wondering why my linksys wrv200 wireless light on the router keeps blinking even though my wireless laptop is not turned on?  I checked the router status and no other clients are connected so im puzzled as to why the wireless activity light is blinking which shows activity as per the manual.
    Is this normal??
    Thanks

The DHCP client table only contains the computers which requested an IP address from your router. Any device/computer with a static IP address will never appear in that list. You cannot tell if a wireless client with a static IP address is still connected or not.
Wireless clients may (more likely) appear in the wireless client list. I don't know if the WRV200 has it or not. Usually you'll find the wireless client list by going to the wireless MAC filter setup tab. Enable the filter if it is not enabled (no need to save the setting), press edit filter list, and it pops up a window where you have another button "wireless client mac list". That button shows you a window of active and inactive wireless clients with their IP address. Any static IP address client should appear there, too. (If the list is not there, search the manual for it...)
You could make another test: change the SSID temporarily on the router to something else. A longer random string. Setup WPA2 with a random preshared key. Save the settings. Disconnect all computers from the router. Still blinking? Unplug the modem connection from the router. Still blinking? If the router is still blinking with nothing wired to it and a wireless network that nobody knows (yet), well, that should clearly indicate a router problem (or at least a wireless light problem). If that is the case it should not be too hard to bring the router back to the shop and show them what is happening.Message Edited by gv on 12-18-200605:43 PM

  • Linksys WRT54G Wireless light

If all macs are shut down, I thought that the wireless light would go off, but it stays on. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

I would think that a signal could be sent from the wireless device to the router (encrypted and specific) so that the router could recognize "who" is asking to sign on and it would wake up the router's wireless section and sign on. However, since there is no wakeup of wireless devices (to my knowledge) I guess that may be why it can't be done. Needless to say, I still can't imagine why we still can't wake up a network wireless device directly from within the network

  • Wireless radio is not functioning on C7250. Reboot didn't fix. #6 didn't fix, wireless light is on

Wireless radio is not functioning on C7250.  Reboot didn't fix. #6 didn't fix, wireless light is on, Vista 32 bit, Win 7 32 bit, D-Link DIR-625 router. Worked great for 2 years. Diagnostic says Contact HP support.  Other functions work fine. Prints via USB all right.

Thank you for your suggestions.  I appreciate your help.
I had previously verified that the wireless radio was on.  The wireless radio test report confirmed it was on.
I had not used the network settings reset function as I was focused on looking for a "printer reset" capability.  Based on your suggestion I used the network settings reset and then printed the HP Network Configuration Page.  This confirmed the settings had been reset.  However this test also checks for all available 802.11 networks.  The report shows the number of networks discovered as 0.  Based on this, I'm assuming the wireless is still not working.

  • HP LaserJet P1102w - Flashing Wireless Light

My printer kept changing IP addresses thus I kept having to add a new printer to my wireless laptop. I wanted to stop this, so I went to the web interface of the printer (looked up the IP address of the printer it was finding on the network and typed that in my browser). I then went to the page that listed the IP configuration and switched it from automatic ip to manual ip and under manual ip address, typed in the ip address I wanted it to be (which was showing under my already installed printer but listed as offline). Once I did this, I could no longer see the printer on my network. The wireless light is flashing blue and I have no idea how to get back into the interface to change it back to automatic ip (I tried typing in the ip address I changed it to, but that didn't work). I went through the hp wireless configuration wizard that was installed on the computer the printer is usb connected to, and it sees my network, but at the end, it says "the printer was able to successfully connect to the wireless networking using the wireless credentials, but this computer is unable to communicate with the printer". I went into my router's (Motorola) web browser to see if I could see it under the DHCP section, but those ip addresses listed didn't bring up an hp web interface

Wireless light flashing, you are not connected to your routers SSID.  Reset the printer back to Factory Defaults and try again.  But try the following.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here.
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer
       Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
    5. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    6. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    7. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    8. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    9. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    10. SSID broadcast must be enabled.
    11. Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
    12. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.

  • HP8610 Touchscreen Won't Respond - Wireless Light is On

The touchscreen on my 8610 is frozen.  Discovered this when I tried to make a photocopy and the icon on the touchscreen wouldn't respond.  I can still print wirelessly from my Macbook with no problem.  The blue wireless light on the printer is on.  I've been printing wirelessly, scanning, and copying for 6-months with no issue.  Any help is appreciated.

Makes no difference.  I unpluygged the printer, let it sit for 10+ minutes,  plugged it directly into a wall socket, then turned it off/on using the power button on the printer.  Still the same ... the wireless light is on, the touchscreen won't respond, but I can still print wirelessly from my computer.

  • I have a Linksys WRV200 wireless router and the wireless signal is not working properly so I cannot connect to the internet wirelessly. the wireless light has a fast green blinking light. how can I fix the router?

I have a Linksys WRV200 wireless router and the wireless signal is not working properly so I am unable to connect to the internet wirelessly.  The wireless light is blinking green very quickly and I connect and disconnect from the network constantly.  How do I get the router to work properly

    Hello James,
The flashing WLAN light means activity (data getting transferred). Try disconnecting all your devices and check whether the light is still flashing or disconnect the router from internet and do the check.
Do you have your SSID as linksys or the default one? If your neighbor has the same SSID, then traffic could result from your neighbor's one. Try changing your SSID and password. Make your security WPA/WPA2.
    Hope this helps,
    Thanks

  • Wireless Light - Question

At what moment I should see the "Wireless Light" on?
I ask 'cause I've tried to make my wireless connection to work, but it does never work. Maybe the fact that the light is always off is a way to tell me that my router is (maybe) broken and need to be replace.
Also, the "Security Light" is always on. Is that ok or should be off? What does that light mean? (When On means ? And when Off means ?)

If you are earlier using wireless connection & not done any changes on the router setting... then by default the wireless light should be turned on .....
Access router setup page ... click wireless tab & see if the wireless SSID broadcast is enabled or not .... it shoulds be enabled ....
also the Wireless mode should be MIXED .....
If all settings are GOOD still no light ...then reset the router for few seconds ... & see if light is there or not .....

  • Photosmart C4585 no wireless light

    Hi all,
i am trying to use the wireless function on my HP Photosmart C4585,
when i press the wireless button and press "enable wireless" i get the message "Wireless Radio is now on"
however, the wireless light doesn't come on and i cannot configure the settings - I tried the HP Solution Centre and clicked on Settings> Other settings > Network Settings but it tells me "The product has not been configured for networking" "no network settings are available"
Any ideas? I have had it about 12  months but never needed to use wireless before as i just had it plugged in via USB.
    thanks in advance

I was re-reading the thread and noticed that you said that the wireless network test report indicated that it found 5 networks. If so, then the radio is working!
Let's try to manually connect the printer to the network.
First, restore the network configuration and then enable the radio again. The printer should create an ad-hoc wireless network called hpsetup.
From a wireless laptop, connect to this network and then print the network configuration page from the C4585. It should indicate the printer's IP address and should start with 169.254.
Now wait 60 seconds and try to browse to the printer's IP address. This should bring up the printer's internal web page. From there, you can connect to your wireless network by entering the SSID and security key in the advanced page under Wireless (802.11) which is under the Networking tab.
Note that when you manually connect to your network, the laptop will disconnect from the printer's ad-hoc network as the printer connects to your home network. Reconnect the laptop to your home network and then resintall the SW.

By the time you pay shipping from China it will cost as much or more than purchased in the USA.

    I get my G5 cases from 1-800-WE-FIX-MACS via eBay auction and generally pay $50.00 + $40.00 shipping = $90.00
