WRT54GX2 Power cycles every 75 seconds

I have three wrt54gx2 v.1 wireless routers.  All three in different subnets but basically configured the same way with the exception of the ip addresses.  Two of the routers power cycle about every 75 seconds.  I backed up the configurations (in case a firmware upgrade went bad) and magically the router stopped power cycling.  I upgraded the firmware from v.1.01.14 to v. 1.01.21 not believing that backing up the configurations had anything to do with the problem.  The router rebooted after successfully completing the firmware upgrade and the intermittent power cycling started again at about the same time interval as before the upgrade.  Does this make any sense to anyone?  I've been through the forum and technical support but I can't seem to find anything with exactly the same symptoms.  Any help anyone can be would be appreciated immensely...this thing is driving me crazy.

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  DO NOT use the configuration file that you saved.
The router's configuration file contains the router's initialization data, that is, the data that is read in when the router starts up.  If you have an error in this data, it can potentially cause bizarre router behavior.  This is the reason that you must setup the router again from scratch.
Please let me know whether or not this helped.

  • Phone power-cycles every time I try to run Backup Assistant

I have an LG Glance , and have been having trouble with Backup Assistant. It used to work great, automatically backing up my contacts every afternoon. For the last year or so, however, every time I have tried to run Backup Assistant it power-cycles. For a while this would happen, then if I immediately went back to Backup Assistant after it re-started it would launch, but it would never accept my PIN. I called Verizon support, they made sure I was using the right PIN (I as), they re-set my PIN (didn't work), and they had me un-install and re-install Backup Assistant (didn't work). Now it power-cycles every time I try to launch Backup Assistant, so I never even get a chance to try my PIN. I have tried to launch Backup Assistant while the phone is plugged in (thinking it might be a power problem), but it did the exact same thing. The contacts in my Backup Assistant online are now almost a year out-of-date, and I'm soon going to be switching phones.
Any ideas about what I need to do to make Backup Assistant work again?

It sounds like you've done all the troubleshooting you can.
When you reinstall Backup Assistant, and it asks for a PIN, and it won't accept yours - here's something else you can try that HAS worked for me, counter-intuitive as it seems to be.  Instead of using your existing PIN, choose the option to set up a NEW PIN - but then, put in your existing PIN anyway.  Somehow that re-connects - at least it did for me.
You need to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall BUA, then, when going through the setup, choose NEW PIN.  Use your existing as the NEW PIN.
If that doesn't work, a corporate store should be able to transfer your existing contacts from your current phone to your new device; my local store has done this for all of our recent upgrades.
    Good luck to you!

  • Airport Extreme - Slow until power cycle every few hours (wired, not modem)

I have the latest Airport Extreme Base Station (no time capsule) connected to a Motorola Surfboard 6121 modem.
When wired directly to the AEBS I get download speeds of 90Mbps+, but after a few hours (I haven't determined if it is consistent) the dowloand speed drops to about 1-4Mbps. Power cycling the cable modem brings back the original speeds.
Please Note: When wired directly to the cable modem the speed of 90Mbps+ are consistent over several days (I haven't tested longer).
The drop in speed only happens when connecting through the AEBS, no matter if I'm connected wirelessly or directly.
My next test will be to see whether powercycling only the AEBS resets the speed the way powercylcing the modem does.
Any thoughts? I would rather not have to restart my connection everytime I go to use it.
    Thanks!

The issue happens when I have the following setup:
    MacbookPro (mid-2008) wired directly into:
AEBS (brand new, no time capsule) wired directly into:
    Motorola Surfboard 6121
    or
Samsung BD-5900 Blu-Ray Player (2013) wired directly into:
AEBS (brand new, no time capsule) wired directly into:

  • Fans fluctuate every second!

I've had this problem since I can remember but it has been driving me c r a z y lately. It does not seem to matter what I'm doing or how long I've been logged on but my Power Mac G5's fans just start revving up and down cycling every second. I've tried it all, zapping the PRAM, resetting NVRAM, disc repair, hardware test, and yes, even a good solid thump in the side ( I said crazy didn't I?).
Has anyone experienced or even heard of this happening before?
Any good leads? I need to hang on to this machine for a couple more years.

I have that model G5 and even on 'Automatic' it hasn't done so much gratuitous revving since installing 10.4.5
In fact, with 10.4.6 the fans seem to be much more stable.
If you have downloaded Hardware Monitor, it should give you a picture of what's going on.
If you try or have tried 10.4.6 and it doesn't help, you should check if Apple think it would help to run the Thermal Re-calibration Utility - or get them to check the hardware out generally, if you have AppleCare...

  • Power cycling

My 4s (Non Jailbroken) is having the following issues:
    1) unable to access email.
Tried going into settings and deleting email accounts, I am unable to access the mail setting just kept bouncing me out
    2) Unable to access photos
    3) Unable to access iCloud.
Tried changing the settings and bounces me out.
    4) Power cycles every several minutes.
This week I updated some of the aps on my phone and that is when it all started.
I was on the phone with tech support (Verizon) they determined that it was the battery and sent a new phone out.  Restored the new phone and have the same problem.
Is there a work around to fix these problems?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).

How can I keep apps in the order I prefer?  I've rearranged via iTunes but every time I power cycle the phone, the apps go back to their original positions...

    Hi kelori617,
If you are having issues organizing the Apps on your iPhone via iTunes, you may want to double-check the steps in the following article and make sure you are syncing any changes to your device:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Sync and organize iOS apps
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12115
iTunes 11 for Windows: Sync and organize iOS apps
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12315
If all of the steps are correct and the changes still aren't being retained when you restart your iPhone, you may want to make sure your data is backed up, then try restoring your iPhone to factory settings, restore your data from the backup, then test to see if you can organize your apps via iTunes:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • Display brightness setting doesn't stick on power cycle

The display brightness setting doesn't seem to stick during power cycles on my new 13" i7, it almost always sets itself to full brightness when I turn it on. This isn't really a huge deal but it is kind of a nuisance as I typically keep it around half, why should I be turning it back down every time I boot up???.
I have un-checked the box through settings for adjusting brightness based on ambient light, and made sure it is in fact staying un-checked.
I have also reset PRAM a few times now which seems to provide a temporary fix only. After a day or two it's back to square one again.
Any ideas, or is this a bug that there's currently no fix for?

Hi, I have recently bought GE60-0ND notebook with Win8 preinstalled which I got rid of in a second I got home, reinstalled with my licensed Win7. Half of things didn't work so I flashed the correct firmware. From that point on everything works perfectly, only brightness control is broken. I simply cannot control my monitor's brightness with my special keys nor in power control setup. So I googled.. and some smart guy recommended a bios flash as well. But when I try, it says either "Problem getting flash information" or "Problem getting bios information".
Any thoughts how to get the brightness control work?
Thanks for any kind of advice
Did you switch the BIOS and the EC Firmware to the Windows 7 counterparts?
You may want to ask Svet about that error.

  • Power cycling since update & other issues

I've had a few issues since the most recent update.  Power cycling, when I try an open an app a different app opens.  For example when I try to open the gallery my camera360 app opens.  It's been really laggy at making phone calls, I will dial or hit a contact shortcut and it will take 45 seconds to a minute before it will dial.
When people call me, half the time it will ring, but the answer screen will not come up and so I will miss the call.  I called customer service asking for help and they told me there is nothing they can do, and I should come to the forum to find out what to do to fix these issues.
Either that or I can do a factory reset.  I am so tired of them telling me to do a complete factory reset EVERY time there is an issue with this phone.
I need to be able to answer my calls.

  • SF-300-48P POE is power cycling

    Hello,
I have a SF-300-48P that is power cycling all POE ports (in use) exactly every 30 minutes. The other older cisco POE switches we were replacing did not have this issue. We have about 40 cisco SPA942 IP phones connected to it. Power consumption is about 175 watts total.
This is my second switch, previously tried a SG500X-48P with the same result.
Any ideas how to stop it from cycling?
    Thanks for the help,
    David

  • MSI RS480M2-IL Frequent PC Power Cycling

I have been having problems with one of my PC's over the past several months.
    Problems:
    1. Over the past several months the signal to the monitor would be briefly lost ever few seconds on occasion but not always.
    2. The other day when I turned on PC it booted up OK but there was no sound. I looked in the Device Manager and there was no mention of the Sound Blaster sound card and there was no volume in the system tray. I booted into the BIOS to make sure that the onboard sound was still showing disabled and it was.
Upon reboot the PC would not boot. There was no signal to the monitor and no hard drive activity. I tried a few more times but the Reset button did not seem to work. I then tried several times to boot a Seagate SeaTools Boot CD. After several Resets I was able to get to SeaTools but the mouse would not work and the PC seemed to be locked up. I tried a few more times with the same results. In desperation I decided to remove the CD and try to boot to Windows and it worked and the Sound Blaster card was showing up now and I have sound. I tried a couple of more reboots and everything seems to be normal.
    3. Today, my PC has really started acting up. I powered up the PC and started the Login process and the PC began restarting every few seconds as if it were power cycling. I turned it off with the Power Supply switch and went through the longer than normal task of switching out the power supply (There is a cross-bar which blocks the power supply so that you have to remove the motherboard to change out the power supply.).
Upon startup with the new power supply the PC immediately began restarting every few seconds in the same manner as with the other power supply.
    Questions:
    1. Could it be the case power-on switch? If so, is it feasible to change it out. (It is an Antec case).
    2. Would a bad motherboard cause symptoms like this? How would I determine this since I have no spare motherboard?
    3. What other things could be causing this problem?
    4. What would you suggest for the next step(s) in diagnosing the problem?
I changed out power supply power cord and it made no difference.
    Thank you.

    Do memory check with >>Memtest86<<
Have you tried with another and better PSU yet?
How about if you don't use the Creative card?

  • WRT350N and Cable Modem Power Cycle

I have the cable modem and linksys router plugged into the same power surge. I noticed that I need to power up the cable modem first in order to register ISP info with my broadband service. If I powered up the router and modem at the SAME time(along with the desktop), my router does not configure the DCHP address on time, and my PC will not have Internet Connectivity. Internet Explorer web pages (including the default home page) will load very slow or produce an error after a while, and if you view your router Status page you'll see no Current Time available. At this time, I am forced to Release/Renew IP address and continually hit Refresh on the status page to regain Internet Connectivity and correct data(Time stamp, DNS, Domain name, Default gateway,etc....). It doesn't sound like a big deal, but what if you're not home and another user boots up my PC and sees no Internet connection? Manually renewing IP address info can become a hassle, when the router's DHCP service should automatically do this in the first place.
Now you have to use a specific Power Cycle, and write it down for guest users, when your network devices have been shut down. The cable modem has to be  powered up before the router. This gives the modem some time to receive the proper ready lights on its LED status. Plugging the router in seconds later makes the reconnection occur smoother and automatically. As you can understand, this usually doesn't occur when you leave your network on for days, weeks, at a time.
This could be a specific ISP issue, but if your network starts up otherwise, please respond.

That status page has been configured many times. How many times do you think I've been in and out of that 192.168.1.1 interface? DHCP was enabled and automatic from the start, and the MAC address is cloned.
The time frame it takes for the cable modem to register ISP information and where the router accepts and implements those settings is where the problem lies. The 2 devices are not in sync if they are powered on together.  Letting the cable modem initialize first makes the router authenticate the network settings better. The router obviously loses DNS settings when it is shut down or there is a power outage. I don't want to release and renew IP addresses every time the pc,modem, and router are powered on from a cold start. The other hassle is unplugging the modem for 15 seconds, replugging, then rebooting the pc, while others might constantly reset the router instead. Like I said, other guests/users might not know what to do in this instance. There are times when the network is shutted down periodically and a clean restart is needed unfortunately. Having a UPS back up would probably be a good solution.

  • SPA-2102 automatic power cycle problem

I have the SPA-2102 with one VOIP line.  Often it will power cycle automatically every 15 minutes or so.  All three lights go off for a second and then it comes back up and works for another 15 minutes.  I had my provider replace the first one as they thought it was a faulty unit but the new one is doing the same thing.  If this happens when I am on the phone the line goes dead and disconnects.
Also I was getting close to 5Mbps then it suddenly seemed to cap out at 4Mbps once this problem arose.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks

If you observed that every 15 minutes the SPA2102 is really turning off, is can be a sign of harware problem. I suggest contacting Cisco Tech support to further look into your concern. I believe this unit belongs to the business series devices that Cisco is now supporting. Try to go to this link for the other business series devices and the site where you can get hold of Cisco for support:

  • Msi z87 g45 power cycling

I recently built a new pc in November and haven't had a problem with it until now. It doesn't post doesn't beep and won't boot as well. No display and it does this very thing with nothing plugged in at all (obviously the psu is plugged in).
    My specs:
    Msi z87 g45 gaming
    I5-4670k (not over clocked yet)
    Gtx 660
    Corsair vengeance  2x4 gb ram
    60 gb  Kingston SSD
    Evga supernova nex750b psu
The problem started yesterday when I had removed all of my components to route my psu cables.
After getting everything installed correctly I plugged it in and hit the power button and it came on for a second and turned back off I thought I had forgotten to plug the 8 pin cpu power in until it turned on a second later and immediately turn off. I quickly killed the power and had a look inside but nothing appeared to be wrong.
Now every time I turn it on it sits there turning on and off until I unplug it.
I've tried switching the ram the psu and reseating the cpu several times and nothing works.
I did manage to get it to stay on by shorting a jumper labeled "J1" but  there's no display or anything other then the fans and LEDs being on.
Anyone know what could cause this? Everything is brand new  and  has only been running for a month and was running two days ago.

I have tried clearing CMOS by the button the battery and the jumper.
The only bios setting that I changed was to set my ram to run at 1600mhz which is what it's rated for (it was running at 1333 on the auto setting)
The thing that puzzles me is that J1 jumper that is right next to dim 1.
If I hold a screwdriver to it during the power cycling thing it stays on as long as it's being shorted but I don't get a display or anything everything is on and spinning but it doesn't boot. As soon as I take it off it reverts back to the cycle of on and off.
I've searched google for any possible incompatibilities or fixes but I couldn't find any.
Also something I forgot, I accidentally bent one of my usb 3.0 pins to the point where it touched another pin. Could this have caused my problem? If so rma wouldn't work cause I bent a pin. I'm totally fine with buying a new board but I'm not sure if it's the board or some other component.

  • System stars, restarts, then restarts and then restarts, never video, just a constant power cycle

    Product:  HP Paviliion
    Model: MS237
    Product #: WW650AA
    OS:  Windows 7
Note this is a neighbors PC, there older but am told it just stopped working.  No physical damage, etc.
Bute, as the subject states, when powered on, the desktop power supply fires, you hear the CD spin up, HD sounds like it spins up, then it all shuts down.  Kept plugged in, it does that for around 3-5 minutes, then the power stays on longer, rather than an on, off every second or two, the fan stay's spinning for now 7 or so seconds, the powers down, back and forth with the same cycle.
I don't mind switching out a PS or anything else, just need a little help as I am not an HP guy.  I don't get any video, no BIOS beeps, etc.  so any help on how to diagnose is appreciated.  Since this is an all in one, I did remove the back, ensure RAM was seated and cables tight, but I am leaning twords a power supply, just not sure.
    Thanks.

Hi As you have already verified the memory sticks and other basic stuff, I suggest to check the following link. This has the all the steps that is necessary to troubleshoot the startup problem:

My build has been stable for about 3 months now but today I went to play a game but the monitor was turned off. I switched the computer off and back on and it started power cycling. I reset the CMOS and it still power cycled. I also tried 1 RAM stick in every RAM slot but still same thing. Everything is plugged in correctly as I have been using it succesfully for the last 3 months until now. Would it be safe to say that I need to RMA it?

No offense but you and many others on this board give MSI too much credit. These boards are widely known to have problems and MSI obviously isn't fixing them very well because I am not the only person that has got this power cycling issue.
Also you implying that I was the one that caused my board to fail is ridiculous. The board died, I replaced it and it booted up fine so I obviously did nothing wrong. Don't be a [censored] about it.
    Let's just all cool down.
As for the statement which I have highlighted in Bold, that is a very general statement to make. To begin with, the problem of P67 chipsets lies with Intel and Intel has issued an official notice several months ago on the issues. Though revisions like B3 version had been released to solve the glitches found in the P67 chipsets, no one knows how many other problems are still unannounced thus no one dares to speculate. Do note, that the P67 chipset problem affects all manufacturers worldwide as everyone only gets their P67 from one source, which is obviously, Intel.
As far as I'm concerned about stability, the below quoted is what I have done and have been doing all this while before any tweaking starts.

You can overclock the system but since you have experienced instability before, that is the reason why you should do everything under stock to make sure it is rock stable before you start to tweak it again.
Trust me, 1 week is a good time frame for monitoring. For all my gaming systems that I build for my clients, I always make sure that I have a 1.5 weeks allowance to do monitoring and testings in stock before I hand over the system to them. Thereafter, anything above stock, it is all in their hands to manage.
