WRT54GX2 Rebooting - Windows XP SP3 issue??? New Firmware Needed?

Have a WRT54GX2, version 1.0, with firmware 1.01.22. Maybe a month ago noticed that I had to power cycle the unit once a week to get my Pap2t voip to work better. Got back this weekend from a trip, noticed that it was rebooting, sometimes as often as every few minutes. Yanked it out, tossed in an old Airlink until I could troubleshoot. Started digging around, and could not find any good reasons for the rebooting. THEN, I noticed via online searches that the Windows XPSP3 release that recently came out has caused some documented and confirmed problems with other wired/wireless routers. Here's a quote;
Broadband modem/router maker Billion says XP SP3 has been causing its BiPAC 5200-series routers to go into a constant crash and reboot cycle.
The company has produced firmware upgrades that solve the problem, which relate to a bug in Billion's code, not Microsoft's. It relates to the fact that Microsoft has started issuing "flag 43" as part of DHCP messages to the modem -- something that has been built into the DHCP specification for 11 years, but not actually used in Windows until XP SP 3.
Although Windows XP SP3 has been available for manual download from Microsoft since May 6, it has just hit Windows Update as an automatic upgrade, which will cause unexpected problems for owners of “unpatched” Billion BiPAC 5200 routers, and possibly other brands or models of router.
Is there someone here from Linksys that can address this??????? As of the time of this posting, the latest firmware is still 1.01.22 that I could find.
Thanks.

No responses here, so I did the online support, went through the chats, one "tech" said that the computer operating system didn't matter or have any effect on the router! I finally got it escalated, had someone call me. At least this person was able to acknowledge that there was a problem. She could not provide any additional information, but said to "keep checking back" to the support pages, for a new firmware to be released. I asked several times if for sure there would be a fix for my older router, and each time she just repeated to "check the support pages".
I seriously doubt that any units more than a year old will be supported by the factory, given the other posts here, as well as the lack of responses by anyone from Linksys to any difficult or non-standard technical questions.
(Mod note: Edited for guideline compliance. Thank you.)

  • T410 thin client RDP Client Error Windows XP SP3 issue

I've switched out the VMs they were connecting to completely and we're still running into this issue. The next step is switching out the thin clients themselves. Bump if anyone's run into this issue before.

I'm having an issue with 2 of my HP Smart Zero t410 thin clients. They each RDP into an XP SP3 virtual machine hosted on a virtual server running VWWare ESXi 5.0.0. Randomly in the morning they'll both disconnect from their virtual machines. Sometimes at the same time, sometimes not. I'm monitoring both the thin clients and the virtual machines with software that pings everything 30 seconds, nothing ever drops a ping. I've tested the wire, the wire is good. I've made sure the thin clients are up to date with the latest firmware. The last thing I've tried is replacing the switch both of these machines are connection. One thin client comes up with an error message "RDP Client Error: Reboot Necessary" then below "The firmware has experienced a critical error. Please reboot this client." After I close the error I can RDP back in. The other thin client also gives an "RDP Client Error" and down below mentions MANTICORE but I did not write down the entire error message. I have 30 other t410's deployed at various locations, all connected via RDP to a Windows Server 2008 R2 terminal with no issue for over a year. These last two have maybe in for three weeks and have continuously thrown this error randomly. Any help is appreciated.

  • Everytime Adobe Reader 9 is extracting installation files, about half way, Windows XP SP3 reboots

Everytime Adobe Reader 9 is extracting installation files, about half way, Windows XP SP3 reboots. Therefore, I am unable to install the Adobe Reader on my computer. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks for the replies. I have followed most of the suggestions given in "Test Screen Name" response. Unfortunately, I have not been able to correctly identify and eliminate rootkit infections (viruses), if any. Furthermore, even when I try to install Adobe Reader X, the system freezes when about 53% of the installation is complete. I am still trying to figure this problem out.
    Good news!
I just installed Adobe Reader 11 and it worked beautifully!
    Thanks again for your suggestions.

  • Windows 7 bootcamp issues for new iMac 27

I bought an iMac 27 on Friday. Have used bootcamp on an older mac previously with no issues. I've tried now for several days to instal windows 7 without success. I've tried to 32 and 64 bit versions and both lead to either a blue or black screen freeze. I've also tried deleting the ATI.sys file but this also hasn't worked.
Would appreciate a walkthrough of how I can sort this (please put it in
Laymans terms as I am not particularly systems literate.)

Can only suggest starting with "iMac Black Screen"

  • Time Capsule connecting to windows with new firmware

I have opgraded my TC´s firmware to 7.4.1, and now my PC cannot log on to the harddrive in it. I get this error message: The computer cannot connect to the TC, check that netbios is on.
This is translatet fra danish, but the meening is the same.
    What is wrong???

The new firmware does not work with Windows XP. I had to revert to the last firmware, and the last version of Airport, but the good news is, you can't do that thru Windows either. You HAVE to boot thru MacOS because their instructions for Windows and the Airport do not work. You are unable to find previous versions of the firmware unless you use the Airport util thru native MacOS.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11n New Firmware Release (VPN ISSUE)

The info accompanying the release of today's firmware upgrade makes no mention of a fix to the VPN problems. Does anyone know if the new firmware had any effect on the problem?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   4 GB Ram

Our VPN is now working (checkpoint)
For me the firmware update initially seemed to fix the VPN issue, but after closer inspection there still seems to be something wrong with it. (We are using CheckPoint.) My Wintel-box that has been provided by my employee is still having issues with connecting to our exchange server and the network drives do not seem to be working all that realiable. Probably a configuration issue, but do you have any ideas on where to start looking for a solution?

Reset the TC to factory and start again.
But do not be surprised if the v5 utility no longer works to do the setup.

After several years of use very satisfied with Firefox, recently loaded version (4.0.1) severely slows my browsing, and even my system, especially when there are pictures or videos. I said that this was not the case before and my system is Windows XP SP3.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • WRTU54G-TM Internet / Blue-light & XP SP3 Issues

So I've been wrestling with getting the WRTU54G-TM maintain a constant internet and "blue light" connection now for over a month.  I thought I had finally stabilized the situation (downloaded the set-up wizard from the Linksys site, as others recommended) and used that to set up the router, and everything seemed to be rock solid for a week or so.
Then I installed both iTunes 8 (which installs the new version of the Bonjour service) and XP Service Pack 3 in the same weekend, and now the WRTU54G-TM gets flaky every time I turn on my computer (it's fine when the computer is off).
At first I thought it was the Apple Bonjour application, but after un-installing that, the WRTU54G-TM was still flaky.  I then upgraded the router to the latest firmware version (v1.00.09), but still no luck.  The router will lose the internet connection (and the blue light), and after a few minutes the connection will come back and the blue light will come back a few minutes after that (at least no power cycle is needed).
So I'm left wondering if XP SP3 is what is now causing the problem and is doing something to mess with the router connectivity.
Does anyone know of SP3 issues with the WRTU54G-TM and how to resolve these?
    Thanks!
    Ian

I did a little bit more research and found that XP SP3 is indeed causing a number of routers to crash and reboot (which is what I'm experiencing when my computer is on).
Apparently there is some issue involving DCHP and "Option 43" which can cause some routers to reboot.  There's more information and a hotfix here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953761 which I'm going to try tonight (crossing my fingers) and hopefully it will solve the problem...

  • I can no longer print PDF files that were scanned with the very same MX479 on Windows XP, SP3

I can no longer print PDF files that were scanned with the very same MX479 All-in-One.
I have an (obsolete) Windows XP, SP3 computer.  Obviously, no updates from Microsoft
have occurred that might have impacted my Canon Pixma MX479.
When I attempt to send 1 or more pages from a PDF file to the printer, I don't even get the
Canon PIXMA popup that would allow me to cancel the print job.
Yet the Print Queue icon appears in the lower right corner of my monitor.
If I view the Print Queue, the print queue shows "spooling" and does nothing more.
If I attempt to CANCEL the print job in the Print Queue, it simply changes to "deleting -
    spooling".
I cannot cancel the print job that shows NOT RESPONDING via Task Manager, either.
In fact, the only way the Print Queue icon disappears is if I totally reboot my computer!
"Luckily", I can still print e-mails, Word documents, and even my downloaded PDF of my
    bank statement.
So, I was thinking that it was *only* PIXMA'S OWN SCANNED PDFS that could not be
printed ON THE SAME PIXMA 479.
However, I have since realized that I also cannot print USPS Signature Proof of Delivery
PDFs that I received from USPS via e-mail.
So why can I print *some* PDF files, but not *all* PDF files, like I previously could do?
THESE SCANS ARE OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS, SO I WILL LIKELY HAVE TO E-MAIL
THE REQUISITE, PREVIOUSLY SCANNED PDFS TO FEDEX TO PAY FOR *THEM*
    TO PRINT THEM.
NOTE: I *have* tried turning the PIXMA off, unplugging it, rebooting the computer, plugging
the PIXM in and restarting the PIXMA - still no ability to print PIXMA-scanned PDFs.
And, I find it very strange that e-mails, Word documents, and some other PDFs print with
no problem "around" "NOT RESPONDING" PIXMA print jobs.
I have owned Canon printers for years, including the MX420, and the MX340.

There may be some security issues related to the USPS PDFs.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

  • PC Suite Issues after Firmware Upgrade of N73

    Hi,
A new Firmware finally became available for my N73. The version number of this firmware is 4.0735.3.0.2.
After upgrading my firmware, every time I connect my phone via bluetooth or USB i get the "The connected mobile phone does not have PC Suite support installed" message. When I try the Help -> Reinstall PC Suite Support option, nothing happens on the phone.
I am able to view my messages via Windows Explorer (but they do not appear in PC Suite below the phone image), do a sync with Microsoft Outlook, sync with Lifeblog, etc - no problems. The only thing that does not work is installing applications via the Nokia Application Installer. Whenever I try to install an application, I get an "Operation Failed" error on the PC, and nothing happens on the Phone. I have tried installing various apps (fring, snake, Conversation) but all result in the same error.
I have tried this in Windows Vista (with latest updates) and on a clean install of Windows XP SP2.
    Summary of my Configuration:
    Phone: N73 (RM-133)
    Product Code: 0542457
    Firmware: V 4.0735.3.0.2
    Operating System 1: Windows Vista
    PC Suite Version: 6.85.14.1
    Bluetooth Stack: IVT BlueSoleil 5.0.5.178
Operating System 2: Windows XP SP2
    PC Suite Version: 6.83.14.1
Bluetooth Stack: Standard Microsoft Bluetooth Stack
Has anybody experienced similar issues? Can anybody help me? Any help will be appreciated.

I have never had such issues with my N73 - same firmware on three different systems. I have upgraded the firmware 4 or 5 times. The fact that your phone refuses to install via Application Installer makes me think that there is some issue with the phone itself - corrupted temp folder or something. If the problem irritates you too much, backup the phone and do hard reset (hold *, Green key and 3 while powering on).

  • Bootcamp and Windows XP SP3

Ok, here goes.  I have a Macbook Pro OS=10.6.8, 2.53gHz Intel Core Duo, 4gb, 1067mHz DDR3.  I am...or was, I should say, running Windows XP SP2++ beautifully (as marginally beautiful as Windows is) using VMware Fusion 3.1.3 thru Bootcamp.  I bought TurboTax for Business 1120 filers (no Mac version avail).  This requires Windows XP SP3.  No problem, if XP SP2 runs well, so should SP3 - NOPE!
After SP3 finished updating, I did the standard shut down and reboot.  The Bootcamp window came up like it normally does with the cheesy Windows icon as is was bringing up Windows.  Then, suddenly, I get the dreaded blue screen error (anyone that has suffered thru windows has experienced this). I tried completely shutting down the Mac and then restarting, but got the same error.  I have attached a picture of the error message:

no I got it going eventually.. the problem was i was impatient.. apparently even an hour of waiting with no response doesn't mean a hang.. If you'll just leave it overnight it will move on to the next step..
A google search shows that i'm not the only one fooled by this.. at 33 minutes to go... there are various postings by people who assumed a hang after a long period of nothing happening..
Anyway all happy now.. Thought i'd let people know if they have this issue.
1/ you CAN install XP SP3 with bootcamp 2.0. The pdf guide on the site and the install guide you print out from bootcamp assistant both say twice that you can install XP SP2 or later.. The confusion comes with UPDATES form SP2 to SP3.. It appears to do this you need to first install the Bootcamp 2.1 update in windows.
2/When installing Windows, if you get a very long period of no feedback back to you and you assume the install has hanged, if the green progress indicators are still moving it is still working, but it may take HOURS..
    Hope this helps someone else..
