WRT54GX4 (open) NAT setting fix for Xbox 360

After searching this site relentlessly and trying all the suggestions, I'm happy to say I found a fix. Disable the routers firewall. Yeah I'm not happy about it either but hey, it works... just ensure you got firewall software on your PC and it's all good. Here's a pic to help you out.

That is incorrect. Without the firewall the router is fully exposed to the internet. Your router is vulnerable to hacking now. Makes it easy to install some hacked firmware on the router, redirect all traffic, relay spam, or whatever.

Please click on the tab "Application and gaming" and click on sub
tab "Port range forwarding"
1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box
type in 88, in end box type in 88, in protocol keep it both, in ip
address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box.
2)   On the second line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box
type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip
address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box.
3) Now save the settings
4) Once you return to the setup page, click on the tab "Administration"
and disable the UPNP and save the settings.
5) Now assign the given ip address on your xbox
   ip address :- 192.168.1.20
   subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0
   default gateway :- 192.168.1.1
Please assign the dns address on the xbox
primary dns :- 4.2.2.2
secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1
6) Please try to test your xbox live.

How do I get rid of the moderate nat setting on my xbox 360?

I tried following the link in a previous threads but it doesn't seem to work. I have wrt54g wireless G braodband router. I'm also running on firefox. I want my router to say open not moderate, so I can play Halo with my friend.

Open routers set up page using http://192.168.1.1 ….you will get username & password screen …leave username blank & under password use admin.
Click on “applications & gaming” tab…under port range forward use 88 & 3074 ports forwarded for Ip – 192.168.1.50….check enable….click save settings.
Click on set up look for MTU …make it manual …change the size to 1365
On X-BOX use static Ip …subnet mask…gateway & DNS numbers as on routers set up page.
Also configure the wireless settings same as in router.
Let me know if the connection still shows NAT moderate.

Disabling SSID broadcast sets NAT to strict for XBOX 360, even if wired to WRT160N

I don't know if this is true with all routers, but with my WRT160N, I found that disabling SSID broadcast causes NAT to go into STRICT mode, and there's no way to get back to OPEN (port forwarding, DMZ, etc, unless you enable it.) Unfortunately I had just upgraded my firmware, which sent me and the Linksys tech down the wrong path. The bummer is that XBOX is wired to my router, so not sure why this would've been affected. Hopefully this helps, since I've seen several **bleep**!?! threads around this. I just happened to stumble across this after my NAT opened up when I reset my router to factory settings. Stepped through the changes I had made from default, and wallah, it was the the stupid disabled SSID broadcasting.

You are wasting more "cycles" if you disable the broadcast because your wireless devices have to actively search your network instead of simply listening to the list of broadcast SSIDs and connect to the correct one.
If "normal folk" want to crack your network they will quickly give up if they do it manually (assuming you have a strong WPA2 passphrase set on your router). Those few attempts won't cause you problems. Your router and wireless network will far more affected by other wireless networks and interference then some failing connection attempts.
Of course, I assume here that you have changed the SSID from "linksys" to something unique. If you still use "linksys" you will probably see quite a few failing connection attempts, not intentionally but because some people had their computer configured to connect to "linksys" before and still use it or did not remove it from their list of preferred networks. And if it is still "linksys" hiding the SSID won't make a change here, too...
They provide the option because that's what people want to see and buy. It does not matter whether it is really useful or not. Marketing says you can "hide" your router and people believe it. If you take the first computer at hand and look for networks the normal way it won't list it. Great, people believe it's "invisible". Sells good. Just like people need firewalls to "stealth" their computers in the internet which neither hides their computer not makes it any more secure...
As long as marketing does not mention that a simple network sniffer will immediately show the existence of the router and very soon will also reveal the SSID... It wouldn't sell so good anymore...
Of course, the setting should not affect port forwarding and your "NAT" level. Could be a firmware bug in the WRT160N.

Trying to get Open NAT Type on 2 Xbox 360's at the same time

After buying 3 new routers in a row trying to find a compatible router at my last house with Comcast, I finally found one that works then move to a house with Fios. I LOVE the speed... but this modem/router took our nat issue back to square one... obviously we're trying to play CoD: MW3 together, but we're both getting moderate NAT. I read a couple posts on the forums here and nobody could offer up a solution (looks like it has something to do with a NAT table that's too small or something?)
Anyway, I came up with a potential solution but it's something I've never done before, maybe someone else knows how:
I'm trying to connect my old dlink router to the actiontec router's internet connection, then have the xbox's connected to the dlink router with dhcp enabled. my theory is to make the actiontec router accept whatever traffic is coming through the dlink router, without knowing what devices are connected to the dlink router.
in this way the dlink router could potentially control the NAT between the xbox's via UPnP by itself, and the actiontec router would have the xbox live ports forwarded to the dlink router's ip address.
Am I crazy, could this work? so far I have the dlink router on a seperate subnet (192.168.0.1) while the actiontec is 192.168.1.1. the dlink router can ping machines on the actiontec router's network but not vice versa. also the dlink router cannot access the internet through the actiontec router yet. which is why i'm here. if this could work, can anyone explain how to set it up?

to get both working, you must enable uPNP on your router. If you are connecting your xboxes to your Actiontec, same rule applies. There is no way to allow two xbox's to connect with OpenNAT without uPNP.
Your best bet (if you can't move the actiontek behind your D-LINK) is to hook the two xbox's up to the Actiontec (preferable wired, but wifi should work).
I have 2 xbox's running fine with uPNP enabled. Both have OpenNAT.

I had this same problem, I had to enable three things. enable UPnP, enable Allow users to make congiguration changes, enable Allow users to disable internet access. You most likely have the first two I mentioned enabled but the last one is the one I didn't have enabled and once I enabled then I had open NAT

Hi there. It actually depends if the gaming consoles ports are not blocked by your ISP. Moderate NAT type limits your connection playing online games, Strict does not allow you any connection at all while Open allows you to play with everyone online. Have you had a router before with Open NAT on the gaming consoles? Try to check without the router by going directly to the modem and see if your NAT type is open or strict or moderate. If ever modem is fine and it is the router not working right you can port forward ports on the router. I found these usual ports online, for XBOX live:TCP and UDP ports: 80-88, 3074-3074, 4267-4269. For PS380, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080 and UDP: 3478, 3479.

okay now do one thing ..... assign default gateway also (192.168.1.1) & then open the setup page of the router click on the wireless tab make a note of all wireless setting such SSID,channel & if u have enabled the wireless security tht also ......& assign these setting on your Xbox 360

Opening NAT for Xbox 360 (HELP!)

Ok, I really need help. I am trying to open my NAT for my Xbox 360. I recently contacted Xbox Support and they gave Port numbers and told me to contact linksys to help set the numbers up on my router. When I called them, a man told me that my that my router 's warranty is done and it would cost me 30 dollars for him to tell me how to do this. Please, someone help me fix this without giving Linksys 30 dollars. I have the Port Numbers, all I need to know is how to put those numbers on my router. Please someone help!

Xbox Settings :-
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...
Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on "Applications and Gaming" tab and then click on "Port Range Forwarding" subtab...
1) On the first line in Application box type in ABC, in the start box type in 53 and End box type in 3074, leave the protocol as both and under ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and check the enable box, click Save Settings once done...
2) Once you return to the set up page click on the Security tab and uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...
3) Click on set-up and change the MTU Size to 1452 and click Save Settings...Click on the Status tab and take note of DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses...
4) Goto the XBox Network Settings and IP Address Settings and select manual IP Settings and assign the following on your Xbox
IP Address :- 192.168.1.20, Subnet Mask :- 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway :- 192.168.1.1...
5) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox
Use DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses you took note off of the router status tab as Primary DNS & Secondary DNS for the xbox...
6) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
7) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...
IP Address: 192.168.X.[last part of ip in your device] e.g. if static ip given to the device was 192.168.X.10 get the last part and put that to the empty box.

Changing nat settings to open on basestation (dual ethernet) for xbox 360

i have a airport basestation (dual ethernet) and i have my xbox 360 plugged into the back using a ethernet cable and i have tried everything i know to open the nat(network address translation)
settings and i tried everything i know to open a port but i am appearantly doing something wrong.... can anyone help?? please... my xbox connects to xbox live but i can play with very few people because of the nat setting.... suggestions?

This "open NAT" is a relatively new thing not supported by the dual Ethernet AirPort base station (ABS).
How have you tried to map/forward/open a port?

WRT54GS V7 NAT TO OPEN, HOW? For xbox 360 live

I recently got a new modem DSL modem so I had to re start my wireless Linksys router settings to factory default. I use AT&T DSL.
I got my network all set up again and can connect to Xbox Live fine. My desktop has the DSL modem and router plugged into it. Thats in another room. Im in my room on my laptop, with my Xbox 360 next to me. I used to plug the ethernet cable from the 360 to my laptop, and I could get online fine.
But once I connected today, it said my NAT was set to Strict.
How can I set my NAT to open, or even Moderate. Because as of right now, I cant really join ANY games online at all. (I tried with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2)

Alright this is driving me crazy haha.

That.....is the problem.
Right now, you are getting Double NAT because the modem is providing NAT firewall and the AirPort is providing NAT firewall. That equals Double NAT also known as Strict NAT.
Contact Time Warner support to get the default IP address for the modem so that you can get into the settings and turn off the firewall in the modem. It needs to be set to pure bridge mode. A decent phone tech will know how to do this.
If you have other modem options, you won't have this problem with a Netgear CMD31T....also on the list of TWC recommended modems.

Opening NAT for Xbox 360

I live in a fraternity house, and we just got an Apple Airport Extreme (802.11a), but we are having trouble playing together on Xbox Live, specifically Call of Duty: Black Ops. I've tried following many manuals across the internet but I can't seem to get my NAT to "Open." I followed Tesserax's manual that he posted for someone a while back, but I ended up only making go from "Moderate" to "Strict." I'm using a wireless adapter for my xbox as well. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

1) It's not the only router directly connected, we have 2 others in use as well.
It will be critical to understand the current network configuration with both the AEBSn and these other routers. XBox Live relies on certain ports opened for on-line gaming. It also uses UPnP to do this automatically. Unfortunately, the Apple routers do not support UPnP. Instead they have a similar technology called NAT-PMP, but I don't believe this is recognized by the XBox.
The key is that the router, which has NAT enabled and typically is the one connected directly to the Internet service, is the one that either supports UPnP or must be configured for Port Mapping/Port Forwarding or a DMZ to allow the XBox to have an Open NAT status.
If your AEBSn is downstream of another router, then the AEBSn should be reconfigured as a bridge. This would disable its NAT service and the mapping or DMZ configuration would need to be done on that upstream router.
2) I tried Port Mapping, not DMZ cause I was unsure how to do the DMZ part.
With a DMZ, you are basically disabling the NAT firewall for a single device on your local network. In this case that would be the XBox. Apple calls a DMZ, the Default Host. Again, this would only be potentially helpful if the AEBSn was directly connected to the Internet source.
