WRT55AG v2 problems

Hello,
I just recently acquired a WRT55AG v2. I checked the linksys site for the lated firmware update and found one that was newer than the one installed on it, I think the installed one was v1.4 but Im not 100 percent on that. Anyhow, the latest Linksys firmware is 1.79. I decided to download the update and install it on the WRT55AG. When the update was finished the router no longer acts normally. It does not appear to be bricked, I can still access the web interface and I can connect to the wireless G, but I do not have any Wireless A devices to test.
I can also configure the options on the interface, but only for about 30 minutes after doing a fresh firmware update, after that when I use the interface the page never loads correctly and I cant make or save and changes. Doing a hard reset does not change anything, and neither does power cycling. When I flash the firmware again I can make changes for another 20 - 30 minutes before the interface breaks again. I tried leaving it turned off all night a couple times just to make sure there was nothing stored in mem causing an issue. Also, since doing the update both Wireless LEDs blink constantly, about on a 1 second interval and not in sync with each other. Normally the Wireless LED blinks fast as data comes in on Linksys units, and thats what this one did before I first updated its firmware. So there is definitely something wrong with this unit.
If anyone can help me get this fixed I would really appreciate it! I am somewhat experienced with flashing other linksys products, such as the WRT54G, with either 3rd party or Linksys firmware.
thanks for looking!
Greg

You can check ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • WRT55AG Connection problems

I have a WRT55AG that I have been using for about 6 months. I have a desktop wired into it and I have a laptop I use wirelessly. Last weekend I went on a trip and connected to the free wireless at the hotel and used it with no problem. Now I am home, and my laptop will not connect to any networks. I have changed my SSID, made my network the only one my laptop should auto-connect to, tried to repair the connection, deleted the wireless card and reinstalled it, nothing seems to work. My laptop is stuck in an endless cycle of trying to acquire a network connection, connecting, and then disconnecting 5 seconds later. I have an excellent signal strength, but no matter what I ty, I cannot get onto the internet.

check the wireless settings of your router... click this http://192.168.1.1 and use admin for the password..username, leave it blank..
check the ssid, make sure its not linksys and then change the channel to 11 or 1...
then chek the wireless security... specially the key..
then go to the system tray and view the available wireless networks... go to advanced button or change advanced settings and go to wireless networks tab and erase everything under preferred networks.... then reconnect to your ssid...
feel free to shoot a messge if this wont help...

  • Major WRT55AG v2 PROBLEMS!!

Hello there. Im having problems with my WRT55AG router v2 even with the latest firmware. Every once in a while, the router just reblinks itself. In other words my internet gets disconnected and in order to fix that problem i have to do a power cycle. But i dont wanna do that everytime. I have firmware version 1.79 plus i have replaced the router twice already. I feel like i need to purchase a new DIFFERENT router.

I am having trouble with multiple routers on my wireless network.
These are the wireless devices I have available for my network.
    Wireless-G Broadband Router - WRT54G - 8.2
    Wireless-G Notebook Adapter - WPC54G - 3.1
    Wireless-G PrintServer with Multifunction Printer Support - WPSM54G - 1.0
    Wireless-G Media Storage Link Router with SpeedBooster - WRTSL54GS - 1.0
I have the WRT54G wire connected to my DSL modem.
My wife and I have laptops wirelessly connected to the WRT54G and the WPSM54G print server with no problem.
When I add the WRTSL54GS the entire network goes down.
When I turn off the WRTSL54GS the network comes back on.
If I turn off the WRT54G I then get access to the WRTSL54GS and it's usb drives.
I want to use the data storage router in my work room my office is in another room and my DSL modem is in the kitchen.  The only jack that my service provider can setup for the DSL modem is in the kitchen. (me thinks they lie)
Will I be able to setup my 'ultimate' configuration using the specified hardware or will I need to use 3rd party firmware to get the job done.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  • WRT55AG WLAN Problems

    Hey all.
    I'm running a Linksys Dual-Band A & G wireless router.
Early April Fools' morning (go figure...), all internet connectivity was cut. Three laptops and a PlayStation 3 lost connection with the router. It usually happened from time to time, so I reset the modem and the router. Nothing. The LEDs were blinking just fine, but the list of wireless connections on my laptop didn't contain the usual "linksys-g" SSID. I can't even use a wired connection with the router; I have to directly connect the Ethernet cable from my modem to my computer.
I've gone through about three Linksys routers, all of which had the same problem.
What is wrong with my network?!
(Edited for guideline compliance. Thanks!)Message Edited by JOHNDOE_06 on 04-02-2007 12:18 PM

You need to try to reset the router to factory defaults, then set up the router again from scratch.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1)  Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2)  Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3)  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4)  Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5)  Power down the router.
    6)  Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7)  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8)  Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9)  Try to ping the router.  To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.  A black DOS box will appear.  Enter the following:  "ping 192.168.1.1"  (no quotes), and hit the Enter key.  You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out."   If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10)  Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1.  This will take you to your router's login page.  Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin"  (with no quotes).   This will take you to your router setup page.  Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen).  Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt.  In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware.  After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state the firmware version of your router, and the results of steps 9 and 10.  Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.
Also, since this is a recurring problem with different routers, you may be having problems with power surges or electrical noise on your lines.  You should plug the router into a high quality surge suppressor that has EMI/RFI filtering, such as the Belkin Gold Series.

  • Problems between HP network printer, WRT55AG, and wireless-G devices...help!

I'm having a weird problem that I just can't figure out.  If I connect my HP LaserJet 2605dn printer via Ethernet to my WRT55AG router, all of the devices on my network (wireless-A, Ethernet) can see/access the printer except for the wireless-G devices.  However, if I connect the printer via Ethernet to a wireless-G bridge, and then use the bridge to connect wirelessly to my router, my wireless-G devices can access the printer without any problems.
Here's a little more info.  If I reset the router, the wireless-G devices are able to access the printer (connected to the routher via Eithernet) up until the point when I enable WEP...then the printer is inaccessible from the wireless-G devices.  I've made sure that all of my WEP keys are correct; besides, the wireless-A devices can access the printer with WEP enabled and the wireless-G devices can connect to all the other devices on the network.
I suspect that something is screwy between the printer and the router.  Using the wireless bridge is an acceptable work-around, but it bugs me that I can't get this working the "right" way.
Oh yeah...the firmware on both the printer and the router is up-to-date.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the printer?

  • WRT55AG v2 lockup problem -- any solution?

Has any solution or workaround ever been found for the "random lockup" problem with the WRT55AG v2? (That is, the problem where the box goes completely unresponsive and can be revived only by power-cycling?)
The latest word I've managed to find has been that no solution exists -- that Linksys won't acknowledge the problem, no firmware update is available from Linksys to address the issue, and the version-2 hardware platform is not supported by any third-party firmware. But I'd be overjoyed if it should happen to turn out that anything has improved in this regard.

My router is already running the last firmware from Linksys (version 1.79, released in 2007).
Sorry to have to differ with you, but this lockup problem with the WRT55AG has been reported many times on the net -- including reports from people confirming they were running the latest firmware.  Go to Google and search for the following words (no quotes):  wrt55ag lockup (I got 1,790 hits on this just now) -- or:  wrt55ag lockup 1.79 (four hits) if you're not willing to credit any report that doesn't explicitly identify the firmware version in use.

  • WRT55AG problem

I've been searching on the internet for few hours now and I'm really pissed off.
I recently bought a Linksys WRT55AG router and I've got a few problems since then.
    1) MSN Messenger 7.5 / Windows Live Messenger wouldn't work in any ways. I mean , I can't login. MSN 7.0 still works tho, don't know why...
    2) There isn't a single way for me to access my hotmail inbox. When I try to login in hotmail by IE, I type my email address and my password, then click CONNECT, then, nothing happens. As soon as it gets into secure mode (https://login.live.com/ppsecure/ ...) nothing happens.
    3) Bittornado is AMAZINGLY slow.
    4) I can't post in any forum over the internet (I connected my modem directly to my computer to make this thread)
It has nothing to do with Port forwarding, neither the router's Firewall. It's not a .DLL file problem, not UPnP , not SSL, not MTU , not IE (tryed FIREFOX).
It has to be a router problem because if I connect my modem directly to my computer, I can access everything.
Is there a setting that can disable my login to HOTMAIL/MSN (7.5 or above) and at the same time make my connection to peers really bad ?
    Sorry for my bad english
    Thx for help

OK CLOSE THREAD, FINALLY GOT IT AFTER 1 WEEK SEARCHING FOR NOTHING.
    HAD TO UPGRADE FIRMWARE

  • WRT55AG self-resetting problem

I've developed a problem with my home network.  I have a cable modem feeding a Linksys SPA2102 VoIP adapter from iTalkBB.  The VoIP works quite well; there are no issues there.
However, downstream from the VoIP adapter, there are difficulties.  If I connect either of my desktop machines or my laptop directly to the VoIP adapter there are no connectivity problems.  If, however, I connect the WRT55AG's network port to the VoIP adapter, the WRT55AG appears to repeatedly reset itself; all the LEDs on its face flash on and off.  I have left it connected in this state for > 24 hours and it does not stabilize.
When I connect the desktops to the router, without the upstream network connection, it also does this self-reset thing but it does stabilize after some time.  I am able to access the router's configuration Web page after it settles down, but, obviously cannot go any further.
I have attempted to reset the router, using both the reset button and the reset button/power cord technique.  My desktops use Vista and Win2K respectively, and my laptop uses Win2K.

OK, I tried to open the Web-based configuration page on the router. However, when I connected either of the computers to the router, I got the unstable state as before. All four of the wired port LEDs flash; then the power and wireless LEDs flash; then everything goes dark; then all the LEDs come on.
I downloaded the FTP-based firmware update utility and reconnected the computer to the router. During the connection, the Vista computer's network icon in the taskbar cycled between the "no connection" icon and the "searching" icon. I set the computer to a static IP address and performed a power cycle on both router and computer, and it resumed the unstable state.
The FTP-based firmware update utility was unable to access the router to update its firmware. However, now after these attempts, the router is in an unstable state even with no wired connections at all; the only thing plugged into the router is the power cord.
Thanks for the firmware advice; it's entirely possible that it could have become corrupted and required re-writing. How can I do that, though, if it won't stay up when something's connected?

  • Setup problem with WRT55AG

I just got this router today, and I have been trying to set it up for the past 6 hours now and I am vary frustrated.
I put the CD in and follow the directions step by step.
I get all the way up to step 9 and it wont go any further.
At step 9, it says its configuring the router.
During this time, the router and my connection go on and off sevral times before it ends with no internet connection was detected.
Just to maybe find an idea of what the problem may be, I went out and got the wireless adapter for my xbox360 and checked to see if it could connect.
It found the router over the wireless feature.
It was given an IP by the router, it was also given a subnet mask, and a gateway.
I ran a test on the network connection and it detected it as wireless, it found the router and was given an IP, but when it got to the DNS checker, it failed.
    Why, I do not know.
How to fix this, I do not know.
Note, this is not about the xbox, I just used it as a tool to test the network.
If anyone know how to get past this step, I would like that vary much.
    Note:
Since the setup prosess was not compleated.
I can not accsess the router or any of its features or config pages yet.

ok 14 hours is quite a bit ...here is what you do .
unplug the modem from the router. kepp the power to the router turned on. Then hold down the reset buootn for 1 Minute. release the reset after a min and unplug the power from the router as well.
Now turn on the modem first.wait for 1 min and then turn on the router.restart your PC.
Once the PC is back up, check if you are able to go online.if yes, cool. if not ....open the router page using http://192.168.1.1 the password is "admin" (no need for the cd....keep it someplace safe) ....
once in the setup, click on the status page and check if you have an "internet IP address" ( you have not mentioned if you are using a cable or a DSL connection , who is your ISP ? )
be as it may....lets try and config your XboX ....click on the setup page of the router and look for "MTU" ...change to manual and put in 1365 as the value.
This should help you....in case this does not , let me know who you ISP is and what model modem you have.

  • WRT55AG v.2 problems

hey everyone, im a new guy
so, heres the situation. My PC, which was connected to my router (WRT55AG) went missing. So now i have another desktop, but im missing my setup CD. for several hours ive scoured the internet trying to find the setup wizard, but nothing. I've also tried going to  http://192.168.1.1 while connected to the router, but it says I'm not connected. Im using TWCs' internet provider.
Can anyone help me fix this, please

You do not need Cd to configure the router..Connect the modem to the router on the Internet port and computer to the router on the Ethernet port...Hard-reset the router for 1 minute, power cycle the router.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...In Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case... Now,configure the router.

  • Problem with firmware for WRT55AG ver.2

    I downloaded firmware v1.79 for my WRT55AG ver.2. (act. firmware 1.30)
I cant upgrade my router - after 15% is shown
    "Wrong firmware to upgrade".
    ps.
I tried use tftp.exe but dosent work...

I just check the firmware release info for this router that it does not shows 1.30 firmware as ever existed. Then I check the firmware info for the EU model and found that your firmware 1.30 was release for EU models only. So probably you have an EU model of WRT55AG and for this model the latest firmware is the one that you are using. Check this link for more info.

  • WRT55AG locks up

I have a WRT55AG  V2 wireless router that is locking up, for lack of a better term.
I have coonected straight from my computer to my DSL modem with no problems, having tested spped connection sevral times with speakeasy.com, having over 6000 k downlaod and 480k upload speeds, shsows that i am getting the spped connectivity that i am paying for ( bellsouth fast access 6.0) i can run this way all day, sevral days no problem.
I configure the router for POP, input password etc, concect cables, etc. The status shows that the router coonects to the ISP no problems. I have my computer hardwired to port on router. I can access internet, email etc however I have intermitent lock ups, where the web page cant be found or times out when trying to send or recieve email. The leds on the router just stay lit steady when this happens. The modem shows that there is recvie data comming in but there is no LAN activity LED and no transmit activity. This is also the same for the wireless portion of the network, I have a printer configured for the G band and an XBOX on the A band, they both cant acces the network computer or internet when the lock up happens. I have tried differnt cables and differnt port on switch no change.
It is an itermitenmt problem that started happening sevral months ago, and the problem is getting worse. When the router is configured and connected to the internet, my downlaod speed to speakeasy.com drops dramtiacly, down below 1000k.
It.s like the router just drops all the packets, or just doenst pass them through for however long it feels like it, soemtimes seconds, sometimes minutes.
I have reset router to factory defaults and reprogramed, I have upgrade firmware to .79 version.
    Anyone have idea?
    Thanks

I just tried this - OS is 10 Enterprise and HTC 8x running latest 8.1 update. I had no issues. As soon as I unlocked my phone the Windows Phone app came right up.

  • WRT55AG - Router sees internet PCs blocked randomly

Hello all...if I had hair I'd be tearing it out...
I have a WRT55ag V2 that used to work just fine, however something must have changed, because now it refuses to let my computers (a mixture of wired and wireless) connect to the internet at some seemingly random interval. I can fix it by resetting the router and I am good to go until the next time. However, several times a day I lose connection. Any help would be appreciated as I have tried all the suggestions in the knowledge base, including the one about MAC address cloning (I already had MAC cloning enabled but it was useful to use the procedure outlined the the article 1403 just to make sure).
Here's some of my settings and the symptoms:
    * 4 PCs running XP (3 wired, 1 wireless A/G), 1 PC running linux - wireless G)
    * Comcast cable - 8mb/768k teleworker account (up to three direct connections are allowed)
    * Router connects via a linksys switch to cable modem (the switch also has a voip adapter which never misses a beat)
    * When the computers can't connect to the internet they can still connect to each other (Windows file sharing, ping, http, etc) and also the router.
*When the router blocks traffic I cannot connect to any WAN site from the PCs, either by using IP addresses or canonical names. I can get as far as the router with a "ping" but not the cable-modem which is the next hop.
    * I can log onto the router web pages and go to the "Diagnostics" page. From there I can ping/traceroute any host, including local intranet and WAN-side sites so it seems that the router is still connecting to the internet but is not allowing LAN traffic to pass through (I tried using Telnet FTP, SSH and DNS but they are also blocked).
    * I thought it might be DNS problems but each local host can seem to resolve any name/IP address so the router must be forwarding those packets. Using IP addresses only doesn't allow connections anyway.
    * The VOIP phone that is connected to the internet works just fine 24/7 so I have ruled out the switch and cable modem.
    * My router is running firmware 1.67.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
    Bill

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly I have already tried these options as well. I changed the MTU on the router and also one of the PCs and that didnt improve the situaton. I also did a factory reset on the router and then reflashed the firmware again.

  • Help:  hard wiring MAC MIni to Linksys wrt55ag wirelss router

I hope someone can help me with this, it is driving me nuts. I have a mac mini that is hard wired to a Linksys wrt55ag wireless a and g router. To make thinks worse. I have a linksys voice over IP box.
I can get it to work but i keep losing the connect and the phone keeps cutting in and out. It seems that the mini, even though hardwired to the wireless router, loses its conenction to the router. It is unable to find it.
I am close to scaping the whole thing, has anyone heard of this problem? is their a solution?
I set up using dhcp in the mini mac and ppoe in the router. Have both the mini mac and the woip router hard wired to Linksys wrt55ag.

Since you are using PPPoE, I assume that you have the Linksys router connected, via Ethernet, to a DSL modem...correct?
If so, if you connect the Mini directly to the modem, is the connection still unstable?

  • WRT55AG A+G Wireless Router Trouble!

Ok, so I've tried a few different options here but im still haveing a hard time getting my internet to find its way thru my router. My ISP is Bellsouth DSL and the router im using is the WRT55AG wireless a+g router. Im running on vista and im not sure if thats the problem but I couldnt imagine why. Anyways, my main problem now is that I made some configurations in the router setup page that cause some huge problems. Now when I go to try to connect 192.168.1.1 it just tells me that I have no internet connection and cant connect. I had no internet connection before with the router plugged in but I still got in. I want to upgrade the firmware but now I cant get in. I want to reset back to default setting but I cant figure out how to do that w/o being in that setup. Can someone help me! and then maybe after that they can guide me thru a PPPoE setup so I can connect to the internet. Please and thank you.

I also use Bellsouth DSL. The FIRST thing I had to do was set my DSL modem to bridge mode. What kind of DSL modem do you have? From there, setting up the PPPoE isn't that difficult. As a matter of fact, I will copy and paste a posting I did on that not too long ago.
If you can get your DSL modem (Verizon, AT&T, Bellsouth, etc.) set to "bridge mode" this should help you out. By setting your modem to bridge mode, this allows your Linksys router to control all internet access. Basically it opens up your  DSL modem to allow any and all internet access straight through it, just like opening a water line. If your modem is set to bridge mode, let's continue...
Open Internet Explorer or whatever web browser you use. Go to http://192.168.1.1 to access your Linksys router's dialog. Hopefully you know the user name and password. The default (factory settings) are:
    username:                <<< leave blank
    password: admin
If you make it this far..
You will be at the Setup/Basic Setup tab
Internet Connection type you want is PPPoE
User Name: is the current login for your DSL account
Password: is the current password for your DSL account
(Remember that your router [not DSL modem] is controlling your access)
Select: Keep Alive and leave default (Not Connect on Demand)
Click on Save (and follow on screen instructions)
Next navigate to the Status tab
Once there, you should see Login Status. It should be Disconnected.
    Click the Connect button.
Click Save if prompted. (and follow on screen instructions)
    Now.. close ALL browser windows.
Re-open your web browser and check for internet connectivity. Some computers may require a reboot. My Win XP Pro doesn't.
I pray that helps you guys out!
