WRT600N and DDNS

I have been notified by Dyndns.org that my WRT600N router is trying to update my account too many times when the IP address has not changed. This is what they told me. "Your account has been blocked for abuse. This action has been taken due to the receipt of multiple updates originating from the same IP address. Updates which result in no change to the host are abusive."
Has anyone had this problem with their router and the DDNS side of it? LINKSYS, look into this with your next firmware update!!!!
For the time being, I've turned the DDNS off in the router and gone back to a software based updater.
John

I had the same issue with the ddns feature in my WRT600N
, and Dyndns.org shut me down also. I wonder how many more bugs does it have?

  • WRT600N and DDNS Disconnected

I can't get my new router to sync up with DynDNS.org.  The Status is always Disconnected.

Make sure with the N-router you need to do the wireless settings properly such as Radio Band Frequency to Standard 20 MHZ frequency, channel to 11.Also,the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet
Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • WRT600N and uploading to Youtube

I recently replaced my NETGEAR FVS318 with a WRT600N and have since been unable to upload files to sites like YouTube and MySpace.  I have reloaded firmware and reset the router without success.  Thinking that something may have changed on my computer, I removed the WRT600N and put the FVS318 back on my network .....voila!  Things work like they should - put the WRT600N back on and the problem returns .  Has anyone had this problem?  What did you do to fix it??  Curious minds want to know

What is the actual error you are getting while uploading the files using WRT600N .... also tell me are you trying to upload the files wired or wirelessly ...

  • WRT600N and OGV200

I just started using the WRT600N and I am wondering if using the OGV200 network optimizer with it would slow anything down now that I'm using a gigabit router. Any advice is appreciated.

I don't thing that using the optimizer would slow down anything....but instead of using the optimizer you could also use the wireless adapter & it will work great.

  • IP Port Forwarding Setup WRT54G3G-ST and DDNS

I am setting up a remotely managed network. I can reach the router fine from the internet but I cannot reach the bridge or the camera through the internet.  On the local network I can "see" or ping every device just fine.  Other routers I have used have a local and global port setting.  It isn't clear to me how this router should be set up.  I have set up static IP addresses for each of the devices.  I am using  DDNS access to the internet that creates another possible factor.
Below is the "Port range forwarding" setting that I have used-  I have tried my hand with the port triggering but it wasn't clear how that applied to what I am trying to accomplish.

The port forwardings look good. You forward port 8580 on the WAN IP address of the router to the local computer 172.16.0.2 and port 1010 to 172.16.0.11.
There are a few possible problems:
    1. the router is not connected directly to the internet. If you run the router behind another (gateway) router this won't work. You have to configure the same port forwardings on the first router as well and forward everything to the second router. To check what kind of setup you have, look on the Status tab. If your internet connection IP address is a private IP address, you are not directly connected to the internet.
    2. firewalls on the server devices may block traffic.
    3. the server may not like NATed requests. For example, depending on your configuration a web server running at 172.16.0.11 may not accept a request coming in for an internet address a.b.c.d which happens to be your router's internet IP address.
For a start I would check if the servers are running properly by opening a connection through telnet. From a command prompt window run
    telnet 172.16.0.11 1010
inside your LAN. It should open a connection. Type in anything until you see a reaction and usually the server will prompt with an error and close the connection.
Then test the same again from the internet with the IP address of the router.
    telnet a.b.c.d 1010
(a.b.c.d being your internet IP address) If everything works correct, it should work like before. If not, you'll get an error message either immediately or after a time out. The exact error would be good to know for further troubleshooting.

  • WRT600N and WUSB600N Storage-Link breakthrough!

So I have been playing with this combo for 3 weeks now and have been unable to transfer large files over the network or from the storage-link.
However, today I have achieved a breakthrough. As usual I was going over my settings and realized that for the first time none of my other wireless adapters I use have WMM support, and they all work fine. The WUSB600n has WMM support. So I went into the router (I suppose I could have done it at the adapter as well), and disabled WMM (keep in mind it won't disable correctly with firmware prior to 36.)
Voila! All of a sudden I can transfer all of my files no problem. Also here is the real kicker, trasnfers to and from the storage-link drive got faster. I don't have hard numbers, but I can tell you the transfer times for large files seem to be down 30%.
Next up is to see if this somehow affected the PS3 and that DLNA protocol error.

UPDATE! This does indeed seem to have fixed the PS3 DLNA protocol error message. I'm not sure if WMM is broken in the WRT600N, but disabling it is making this thing work like a dream.
Keep in mind like I said you need the newest firmware to disable it, in prior firmware versions it wouldn't actually disable.
Another twist in my testing has shown that the WUSB600N does not like being plugged into a USB port that has 1.1 devices on the same root hub (may go for 2.0 devices as well).
Update 2: I give up, so apparently I can fix either of these problems, but not both at the same time. If I run the media server (with WMM disabled) I don't have the problem with the PS3, but the WUSB600N adapter craps out. Otherwise I can disable both the media server and WMM and the WUB600N works great, but I lose the media server.
This whole thing sounds like a memory issue to me (I'm an embedded software engineer, I have been there). They probably never tested everything running in parallel. Anyway I give up, I am going to go buy a Synology NAS and just use the WRT600N as a router. (Linksys definitely won't be getting anymore of my business).

  • WRT600N and WPC600N won't connect

I just installed at WRT600N router and use a WPC600N card with one of the notebooks.  The notebook is a Thinkpad T61 running vista business.  The 5.8mhz side is set up for N only.  The 2.4mhz side is set up for g only.  The WPC600n connects fine to the 2.4mhz g, but when it tries to connect to the sspid that describes the 5.8mhz N side, it says it cannot connect because the authentication server timed out.  I have never had this issue before and my ISP (Verizon DSl with static IP) does not require any kind of user name or password.  I use WEP security.  Also, when the sspid for 5.8mhz N displays on the notebook, it is described as 802.11a, but 802.11a is not turned on on the router -- what might the problem be??  Thanks

    Thanks I

  • WRT600N and AIM service disconnects

I've been diagnosing a problem related to my Palm Pre on Wifi connected to my WRT600N router, Firmware revision 1.01.36 build 4.  It seems to be that when the Palm is idling and not sending data over AIM for quite a few minutes that it'll disconnect and it takes quite a bit for it to reconnect while still idling OR it'll reconnect when I actually go to change status or message someone.  I had thought this was isolate to my Palm Pre, but discovered the same thing almost at the same time can happen on my computer when I have the actual AIM program itself running and idling.  Here's the funny part, Trillian Astra using the AIM protocol doesn't do this, ever.  I've even checked the status window and Trillian gets NO random disconnects.
Here's what I found though, AIM and Trillian are using slightly different connections, but on the same port.
Trillian is using login.messaging.aol.com on port 5190
AIM is using login.oscar.aol.com on port 5190
What could be causing this anamoly?
The only other issue I've had with this router that's notable is that storagelink works for a while when first set up but can have error when you do certain things, I've read many complaints about this though, so, I'm not convinced it's isolated or that the router is in some way faulty because anything else I do works perfect.  I have port 113 forwarded to my laptop (which is my only personal PC) and also ports 10072 and 10074, all 3 of which are for IRC related to Ident and DCC.
I'm also currently waiting for information back from Palm Technicians as to what login and port Palm's AIM client uses to try and compare and see if it's on the same one AIM is on my PC to see what's at fault here.  I know it's impossible to be the settings themselves alone because millions of people are on AIM without random disconnects using these settings, so my best guess is something at the router is causing issue, even Palm had suggested this to another user with the same issue elsehwere.
    WRT600N - V1.0
    Firmware 1.01.36 Build 4

I could possibly do that, but unfortunately in the world of testing an idea, too many things change with that.  First, I would be unable to test it on my Palm Pre, only my laptop.  Secondly, the laptop would no longer be wireless, it would be on a wired connection.
I did some research and tried shutting off "filter anonymous internet requests" as I had read this sometimes stops services from getting a successful ping and may terminate a connection abruptly, unfortunately this was not the case here.  Could the built in Firewall (in router) have some effect on this?

  • WRT600N and Network Places can't see other N device

I just replaced my WRT350N with a WRT600N. After install, my wired desktop cannot "see" in Network Places my other Desktops Shared Drive which has a Linksys WUS300N. This Desktop (with WUS300N) is able to access the internet wirelessly and all settings in router are default. In addition, my wired desktop can "see" all other G devices in "Network Places", but just can't "see" the WUS300N device in Network Places. Once I put the WRT350N back, all devices can be seen in Network Places. Shut down WRT600N, restarted all units, shut off/on sharing, turned firewalls off...no change
My wired desktop is Vista Premium 32 Bit
My wireless desktop is XP Home Edition

I replaced my WRT350N with the WRT600N too because of all the problems with the 350N and to have the dual band as most of my laptops have wireless N cards. I have not had any problems with this router other than only being able to access my USB Tera drive with my XP machines using ftp, if I try to search for it under network neighborhood as I do on my Visa machines and it only brings up default and it won't let my access my share that I created even with the user I created as an admin on the router to access the USB drive share, but since I can access it using ftp I am not concerned at all and otherwise this router is letting all my N wireless cards including the intel 4965N connect at 270Mbps all the time at the same time 3 other laptops that my kids use are connected too with wireless G cards, so I am a happy camper so far.

  • Flaky Connectivity WRT600N and Westell DSL

I want to connect the Westell DSL modem using bridge connection to WRT600N for routing and access restrictions on my network. However, in this configuration, certain pages or certain parts of pages disconnect my WRT600N. I know it is a problem with the linksys because if I take it out of the network (plug desktop directly to DSL modem), then I can access everything. This is not a problem with 99% of the internet, but the 1% it gives me a problem on is the stuff that I need from time to time.
EXAMPLE: my favorite electronics vendor Mouser.com
    go to http://www.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Resistors/Carbon-Composition-Resistors/_/N-5g9p/
Ok, no problem, now click one of the filters like power rating = 1 watt and click on apply filter
Now my page disappears and and I get
    The webpage cannot be found
HOWEVER, if I disconnect the WRT600N completly and plug my computer directly into the DSL modem, I get no error and can display my page full of resistors with no problem.
I have looked at everything I can think of including MTU ping test settings, etc....

I set the Westell to bridge connect and then set up the PPPoE connnection in the Linksys modem.
I have used it like this for quite some time, and every now and then, I get to a place on the internet that I just cannot go, like my example.
If I setup the PPPoe in the Westell and dont use the linksys to manage my connection, then the problem goes away. Of course, to switch back and forth, I have to reconfigure the router and the modem and switch my DHCP from one to the other, etc.
Using the DSL modem to manage the connection is not really a solution -  this is why I bought this particular router. I wanted access control and to be able to set schedules for devices. I have a 15 year old who will stay up all night on his laptop, etc.
I have  the latest firmware, ( 1.01.36 build 4) I checked again a couple of days ago. I have configured and reconfigured that router so many times I cannot count.
Are there any particular settings you are thinking about I should check?

  • WRT600N and WUSB600N problems

Many problems. Problems connecting, staying connected, seeing 5 Ghz SSID as a connection option, getting DHCP to work, etc. Support said 1) Must have "bad CD", then 2) Must have bad router. Are these problems typical? Support also said there was no downloadable firmware or updated drivers for WRT600N or WUSB600N. Does this sound right?

I actually had better luck with a higher beacon interval. I was trying to transfer a file from a Vista 32 machine with a WUSB600N connected successfully to my 5GHz 802.11N network (web browsing worked, small file transfers worked). When I tried copying a ~700MB file over the LAN to an XP SP2 machine connected directly to one of the router's ethernet ports, the WUSP600N would hang and lose its connection every time I initiated the copy. It seemed impossible to transfer large files over the wireless network to a wired machine connected to the router. After I increased the beacon interval to 150 ms, with all other settings (channel, advanced wireless) set to their defaults, I could successfully copy the file, but the transfer speed fluctuated from 1 MB/s to 4 MB/s. I'm still wondering why this worked.

  • WRT600N and static DNS

On my old WRT54G, if I setup a static DNS server to point to my local Linux box, that's what all my DHCP clients get. However, I've noticed that on WRT600N, my DHCP clients are pushed the addresses of my ISP DNS servers (two of them), followed by WRT600N local IP address, followd by the static DNS address I configured.
On example, here's what my DHCP clients were sent by WRT54G:
    192.168.0.3
Here's what WRT600N (configured exactly the same as WRT54G was) sends to them:
    68.87.76.178
    68.87.78.130
    192.168.0.1
    192.168.0.3
Obviously, this is bad. If I configured the static DNS address, then I obviously have a reason for doing so, and that address should be the only one (or at least the first one) that DHCP clients will get (otherwise, there's not much point in having that option in router's configuration). Is there any way to force WRT600N to behave like WRT54G used to?

    maui29111 wrote:
you cannot just assign a static DNS server on the router, because the DNS server that it's sending is valid and from your isp itself, if evcer you have a static account from isp then that's the time where you can force the router to use a static ip address
Actually, no. Even if you are using DHCP to obtain an IP address, there is nothing preventing you from configuring DNS servers manually (using static DNS servers). DHCP is not all or nothing. You are free to use DHCP to obtain IP address, and override addresses of DNS servers (or any other info).
Here's an example of such usage. Linksys router acts as Internet gataway (using DHCP to obtain external IP address from ISP). It also acts as DHCP server for local clients. I have a DNS server on my local network. This DNS server is used to resovle the names of the hosts on my local network, and it also acts as caching DNS to resolve names of the hosts on the Internet. Hence, I do not wish Linksys router to send my ISP's DNS server to clients on local network. I want it to send the address of my local DNS server.
On WRT54G this configuration was possible. You just enter static addresses of your DNS server, and it would send those to the DHCP client, instead of forwarding ISP's DNS servers. WRT600N doesn't allow this type of configuration.

  • WRT600N and USB Printer

I just bought a WRT600N gigabit router for use at home.  My printer only has a USB connection.  Can the printer be connected to the home network using the USB port on the WRT600N or will I have to leave it connected to a running computer to use it with a wireless laptop or my other desktop?

It has to be connected to the USB port of one of your computers.  You then have to set your computers on the same workgroup and turn on file and printer sharing.

  • WRT600N and WPC600N

    Hello,
    I have a WRT600N Router with a WPC600N Notebook Adapter.
I can connect both via 5GHz band (with Linksys Wlan Monitor respectively Windows xp wireless control)
but I have the following problems:
    - I can't ping to the Router (even though connection)
    - continual disconnecting and connecting between Router and Adapter
    - I can't see the wireless Client's in the Router (menu wireless)
    Can anybody help me?

Hello quack, thank you for your reply. I test the diffrent settings, but nothing changed. At the 2,4 GHz-Band, everthing is o.k. But when I only use the 5GHZ-Band (disable the 2,4 GHz-Band), i have the the same old problems (Router and Adapter are connected) but: - I can't ping to the Router from the Laptop - I can't see the wireless Client's in the Router (menu wireless mac address) but in both Band's.

  • Need help with WRT600N and Verizon FIOS router

The standard Verizon router doesnt have Wireless N capability, so I got the WRT600N (first floor) a while back and connected it to one of the ports on the Verizon router (basement).  I have the wirelss turned off on Verizon router.
My problem is that anything connecting to the WRT600N has extremely intermittent connectivity.  I have tried to go in to make a bridge between the devices but that hasnt helped.
If anyone could offer me some suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Did you disable the DHCP server on the WRT600? I also disabled the firewall as well.
