WRT600N , USB Drive now you see it now you dont

hooked up my WD 1200 passport USB drive to my WRT600N.  I could see it and i successfully completed a back up from my main machine to the drive. Pressed "safely disconnect drive" from the web UI and now when i reconnect the drive to the router it is no longer recognized.  The drive works fine when i connect it directly to my PC but not the router.  In addition i have tried several other USB devices including a SD card reader and even the SD card is recognized  by the router.  Any one have an idea of whats going on?  Also I have flashed the router with the latest FW from the website.

if you have a cordles phone..check if it is giving out a 2.4 ghz signal output... if it does then i might be the one causing the issue... try connecting without the cordless phone then check if it works
if you dont have a cordless phone.. change the channel!

  • Window initialized my usb drive, now i can't see my drive

well, i've been using my g-drive on my mac, and thought i could just unplug and plug it into my windows machine. without realizing it, i initialized the drive on windows side. i was afraid to do anything afterwards, realizing that i just had window did something to my disk, and just unplugged it and plugged it into my mac again, now i can't see the hard disk or disk utility is not recognizing it... help, what do i need to do to the usb drive so that my data is back again .

    Hi mr.wOrm;
If Windows formatted the drive for you, I think your
chance of recovering anything at all are very slim at
best. I take you don't have a backup. That is always
the safest thing to do is backup. If in doubt back it
up first and then think about what you are going to
    do next.
If Windows has totally destroyed everything it is
possible that you can download some software from here that might
be able to recover some of your data. Th demo you
download will tell you what it can recover. If what
it can recover is worth your while then you must pay
for the software to actual recover it. You will also
need a blank disk to place the recover data on to.
    Good luck
    Allan
    hi allan,
well the good news is that i actually use EnCase for forensic, but i can't believe that i would screw up like this and have to use it myself. worst case scenerio, i would have to go into work today or on monday and try to recover this forensically :(:(:(:(
i was hoping that it was some quick thing that would reinitialize my drive and viola

  • How to reset Windows 7 Administrator Password with USB Drive

The first thing we often do When we *Lose Windows 7 password* is asking a computer expert for help. However, it is only a moment for you *forgetting Windows 7 password* and it may take you several days to regain access to your system. From now on, don't worry about anything when you forgot windows 7 password. The article will give you some ideas to *reset Windows 7 password* with USB Drive.
*Section One: Reset Windows 7 password with Password reset disk.*
Most people usually only know how to create a new user with a strong password or change it. But they don't develop a habit to create a password reset disk for preventing lost password. It is a great and free gift from Microsoft. Click here to learn how to create password reset disk in windows 7 If you ready have a reset disk, please follow steps below:
Step1: Start or restart your computer, insert your USB. In the welcome interface, press ctrl+alt+delete twice, get into the classic log on box. Then type the user name that you want to use and a wrong password or leave it blank, and then press ENTER or click OK.. it will show you logon failed.
Step2: Click *Reset password*...... it will show you the Password Reset Wizard. And it enables you to create a new password for your user account. In the Password Reset Wizard dialog box, click *Next*.
Step 3: Chose the disk which you insert, click *Next*. Type a new password in the Type a new password box, and then type the password again in the Type the password again to confirm box. In the Type a new password hint box, type a hint for the password or not, and then click *Next**→**Finish*, and then try to log on to Windows XP again when use the new password you just set.
This *USB Password reset disk* only use in a certain account which you have created before, or it won't help. So it's better to create a password reset disk when you add a password to account.
*Section Two: Reset Windows 7 password with Windows Password Rescuer run from USB drive*
If you haven't created a password reset disk for your account and unfortunately you lost or forgot windows password, see bellow. I will show you step-by-step guide to do this task in several minutes with USB, without reinstalling system or losing any data.
Step 1: Prepare a 2GB USB flash drive and a computer which you can access to.
Step 2: Download Windows Password Rescuer Personal and install it to a computer which you have access.
Step 3: Run the program and burn the ISO image to the USB Flash Drive.
*NOTE:* This action will make your USB drive be formatted and all your data in it will be lost. You'd better provide one with nothing in it.
Step 4: Use the USB to reset windows 7 password. Before this step, you must set your computer boot from USB. Then start your computer, and you will enjoy the process of resetting the password, it is easy and quick. Don't worry if you have difficulty to bios setting, you can see more in the Windows Password Rescuer website.

Very interest posting. Thank you for this detailed description and useful links.

  • Can I perform a Time Machine backup to a USB drive connected to the Time Capsule 3TB

I would like to perform Time Machine backups to a portable USB drive, to use as an off-site backup copy.   However, when I plug the drive into the Time Capsule (3TB) it isn't seen by Time Machine from any of the computers on my network.  What do I need to do to make this work?

I'm not sure about whether Time Machine can include a drive that is a month out of date in a normal rotation.
This won't be a "normal" rotation. Assuming that you have already configured Time Machine on each Mac to back up to the USB drive, when you connect the drive to the Time Capsule, you will need to manually click Backup Now on a Mac to get the backup started. Then, do the same with other Macs that you want to back up.
You could wait and see if Time Machine will start to back up on its own, but the wait would be unpredictable as far as time was concerned.
Time Machine will also spend a good deal more time in the "Preparing" stage since it will have to look a month of history on the Mac since the last backup.
It is set up and recognized in the Airport utility, and mounts normally. I can see the files using finder, but I can't get Time Machine to recognize that it is there and available for backups.
So, if you open System Preferences on a Mac,
    Then, open Time Machine
    Click Add or Remove Disk
The USB drive doe not appear as a potential destination?
Have you restarted both the Mac and the Time Capsule?
Any recent changes to the Mac.....like installing a new operating system?

  • T61 - Rescue and Recovery - USB Drive issues

Ran into disk space issues with RnR on my C: since I was not manually using RnR and have other back-up tools, I uninstalled RnR.  A few weeks later, I re-installed the latest RnR version as I now have possesion on a USB Western Digital drive.  I then ran RnR to the USB drive.  Here is the problem:
The USB drive now has a new drive name and letter desigation, from drive G: to drive Y:  The real killer is that I had other files on drive G:
Looking at the drive size, it appears that ALL files are still on the USB drive.
Question:  How do I get the drive to be recognized as drive G:?  How do I get access to the files that were on that drive?  Would un-installing RnR set the drive back to C: and provide access to my files?
Note:  There was no warnings during the back-up that any of this would happen.  I can't find any warnings or descriptions in the manuals either.

Question:  How do I get the drive to be recognized as drive G:?  How do I get access to the files that were on that drive?  Would un-installing RnR set the drive back to C: and provide access to my files?
Vista - start - computer - right click - manage - (if uac on, accept) -  disk management - select the disk- right click and you are given the oportunity to change the drive map (i don't know if that helps)

  • Cannot mount external USB drive with FDisk_partition_scheme

Due to some recent mac issues in my lab, we updated one of the computers to Maverick 10.9.4 from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 yesterday. Anyhow, this seems to have erased the ability of the mac to read or mount several identical USB drives with the NTFS format (WD My Passport Ultra 500GB USB3.0). It could do it yesterday when it was OSX 10.6.8, but not today (OSX 10.9.4). The drives still work fine on other OSX 10.6.8, Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04 computers (this is appears to be a problem with the Maverick 10.9.4 operating system itself, rather than the flash drives which work flawlessly with every other computer I've tried). I want to remove data from the computer to create backups on the USB drives (no, I don't want to create an online backup or buy a new set of USB drives).
diskutil can see the drives, but cannot verify or repair them as they lack a GUID (GPT) partition scheme. I'm assuming this is the root of the problem. Manually mounting the drives does not work. Installing the ntfs-3g driver also did not work (I was using this to write to the NTFS drives until we upgraded OS's). Installing the WD Passport drivers for OSX also did not work. How do I get the mac to mount these drives?
I could reformat one USB drive and then copy to the others, but this would be extremely inconvenient and take days of copying files back and forth (and would prefer to fix the mac rather than go through this with every NTFS drive I own). If I did this, the FAT32 hard drive format would not be suitable, as format is unable to handle the extremely large sequencing datasets I need to transfer. I'm not super familiar with hard drive formats, but in the event we cannot get Maverick to actually work could someone possibly suggest a format able to handle large file sizes (the largest file I need to move is ~60GB) and be compatible with Windows 8.1 / OSX 10.9.4 / Ubuntu 14.04 as well?
Another workaround I thought of would be just to install an Ubuntu partition on the mac and get the files off through the Linux install. Which is also inconvenient, but would probably be faster than trying to reformat the drives and copy everything over onto them again given the amount of data I want to transfer.
Unrelated, but is there any way to view files and folders in the OSX root directory besides through Terminal? It seems like this functionality was also removed when we "upgraded" from Snow Leopard. (At this point, if it were up to me I would wipe all of the macs we own and replace them with Ubuntu... even the most minor of tasks always require some sort of workaround with them... at my wits end here ).

Yeah this definitely appears to be a problem specifically with this mac. It's been having all sorts of weird problems lately, and we figured that upgrading to Maverick might fix them (but instead we got new problems).
To give an update on this, I ended up reformatting one of the drives to HFS+ and disabled journaling. It now recognizes the drive again, and I'm pulling the files off that way. I looked at exFAT, but it looks like HFS+ has much better Linux support (Windows is read-only but that's only a minor annoyance, as the algorithms to process the data only run on UNIX machines anyways). It's a shame I couldn't keep using NTFS (had to copy over literally EVERYTHING again...) but whatever. Again, no solution for the issue (where this mac can't read NTFS drives).
@rkaufmann87 - To give a bit more explanation, we recently had to disable online backups because apparently the sheer amount of data causes Time Machine to freeze the computer and fail every time it has a scheduled backup (original issue we thought that upgrading to Maverick would solve... didn't work). The hard drive has been having a lot of issues when it begins to reach max capacity as well. So I am pulling off all of my files to external hard drives and deleting the local copy before we attempt to back up online again. And the data would probably take me a year and a lot of money to recreate (for the curious, it's high throughput sequencing data). I'm choosing not to take any chances as a result.

  • Can't delete folder in USB drive..

    Hello,
I copied a locked folder that contain my PGP keys to a USB drive that is connected to my Airport and has 2 partitions. one for TM and one things I don't want to carry on my laptop.
Rearranging the setup, I copied a locked folder from my HD to the USB drive. now trying to delete it, trash gives the message "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items" looking at the folders info. it shows the access like this: under name there are 2 (unknown) with read & write access and there is one named everyone also with read & write access.
    Macbook 13'3 , 2.16 pentium , 2G's RAM Mac OS-X ver 10.5.5
    Any ideas?

How did you trash it? Did you trash it directly from the USB drive or did you first move it onto your internal HD?

  • How can I do backups on internal disc while sharing an external USB drive?

    Hi,
On my Airport Utility there are two lines: "Time Capsule Disc", and below (indented) "Data".
(When I plug an external USB drive I can see it in this window as well)
Clicking (selecting) the first line, on the right hand side I can see the disc details (name, capacity and SMART Status (Verified)), and two buttons: Compress and Erase (I don't know if these are the words used on the english version mine is spanish).
Clicking on the second line (Data) I can see the Name "Data", capacity, used and available sizes and number of users connected.
    First question:
Why Time Machine can't see the "Data" volume if I untick the "Share files" checkbox?
    Second question:
Moreover, I've got a USB External Drive attached to my Time Capsule, so I have to have the "Share Files" checkbox ON, this makes my USB disc (fat32) available to my Windows computers but ALSO the "Data" volume can be seen from Windows. If there is any attempt to assign a Windows drive letter to the "Data" volume, next time Time machine wants to do a backup I'm getting a "disc wrong or missing, check credentials (or something similar)".
In summary, what I'm trying to do is Time Machine backups to the internal Time Capsule disc (making that disc unavailable/invisible to any other computer in my network) while sharing a USB external drive attached to Time Capsule.
    Advice, please!

Yes you can go to > Music > iTunes folder and copy the whole iTunes folder and drag the folder to your external and then on the new Mac click and highlight the iTunes folder and then in iTunes click on the button at the top (add folder to library) and you should see all your songs transfer from the external to the Mac and all songs start filling up in your iTunes library on the Mac.
This is the easiest method all songs and other media such as songs, movies, apps will be transferred over however you may not be able to keep ratings & last played counts using this method.
To keep all metadata including ratings & play count use the Apple method exclusively for this if you have to have your metadata, play counts and ratings saved.
I used scenario one above because it one of the simplest methods and I was just satisfied enough just to transfer all media over.

  • My USB drive isn't showing up in Mac OS X Lion on my MacBook Air

just got new macbook air with lion. When attach usb drive can't see it on desktop. Anyway to actually see it? Be easier to drag files into it if I could see it.

If you launch Disk Utility, does the external drive show up in the volumes list on the left-hand column of Disk Utility's window?
In Finder->Preferences, do you have "General->Show these items on the desktop: Hard disks" checked?

  • FSCK and reboot issues with external USB drive

I'm having an issue with an external USB hard drive I'm using.  I've always had issues with this drive cause my reboot to "freeze" when it's mounted.  Basically the system message with be sent out, but it doesn't actually proceed with the reboot.  No switch to init 6 or anything, but the shutdown process is still active.  I can continue to use the computer as usual, but I can't cancel the existing shutdown or try to enter init level 6 by hand.  So I just got around this by unmounting the drive before I shutdown.  However, lately when I try to unmount the drive I get an error saying that the drive is in use and I should check to see what processes are using it by runing lsof or fuser.
Yesterday I tried copying dsome files from the drive but there wasn't and activity on the drive. cp didn't report any errors though, it just sat there and did nothing.  I tried running fsck on the drive, but didn't get much farther.  I'll see some activity on the drive for about a second, then all activity stops and fsck just sits there. When I try to kill fsck, it won't.  Even with a kill -9.
I'm really confused as to what is going on.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Anyone have any ideas what could be causing all this or what I can do to stop this?  Thanks in advance!

Press the reset button on the device. It is located between the USB and power ports. Make sure to take-out the external USB drive before you reset the device. Or you can also restore the defaults by accessing the Administration tab > Factory Defaults sub-tab in the router’s web-based setup page. Check out this link for the set up; http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=32cffead811249aea7e9fc6730bf59ad_KB25681_EN_v1.xml...

Huawei Support FAQ this Question and answer was:
Question: I connect my MediaPad 10 FHD to a PC, but the MediaPad 10 FHD is not displayed as a USB drive. Why? What can I do?
Answer: MediaPad 10 FHD uses MTP and does not support USB Mass Storage mode. With a PC running Windows 7 or later, your MediaPad 10 FHD is displayed as a storage device, but with a PC running Windows XP or earlier, install Windows Media Player 11 and
the USB driver if you are connecting your MediaPad 10 FHD to the PC for the first time.
Using MTP, you can access files stored on your MediaPad 10 FHD from the PC.

  • Lock a USB Drive with 10.6.8

Hello, I have an original MacBook1,1 running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I would like to password protect my USB Drive. I have heard of OS X Lion being able to password protect USB Drives but I cannot upgrade to Lion, only 10.6.8, which I'm sure you know. I have seen many apps on the Mac App Store, but none are compatible with my MacBook. (Because of my OS and 32-bit. processor.) I want the password to come up automatically when you plug in the USB Drive. Or I would like to have the password come up when you try to open up the USB Drive. I do NOT want to have one that copies something onto the USB Drive that you can put stuff in. I know that must sound very wordy. Thank you in advance.

There may be some security options in OS X Disk Utility, but to
    avoid a File Vault if possible should you forget the password;
and usually a bootable full running OS X could have Security
settings in System Preferences engaged, not an external file.
You may be able to encrypt the entire content, not sure how
because after hearing horror stories of lost access to very
important files or drives, or partitions, I've not bothered; as
a single user there are other ways to lose file access that do
not involve setting up these concepts. Backups to secure a
working copy of ones archive and to have a bootable clone
are better goals to overcome other kinds of loss.
Physical access to the computer and media are the first level
of security; then passwords, then encryption, as/when needed.
While they likely do not provide a simple path to your needs
the security guides in .PDF download document form, from
Apple Support may be helpful as they cover Mac OS X 10.3
    through 10.6.8.

  • Can I connect any USB drive to download photo, songs to ipad2

Can I connect any pen drive to ipad2 to download songs, photo?

I'm not sure what you mean by "download". If you want to put content onto the iPad, then you can import photos though the Camera Connection Kit, as long as you correctly set up the USB flash drive. Search the web for "ipad import photos from usb drive" and you'll find instructions. You cannot load songs or other content onto an iPad from an external drive.
If you mean that you want to save photos or other content from the iPad onto a USB drive, there's no way to do that I'm aware of.
