WRT610N Lacks Proper "DUAL" band connection

I just bought this WRT610N router 2 days ago and it was working great, both dual band wireless connections were up and running without fail, but today there was a power bump (our power went out for about 2 seconds) and I lost one of the bands when the power came back on, waited, and it still never came back, the media connection is still active and fine. I tried to fix the connection with the LELA software and going into the internet based IP configuration utility but that didnt work, so i decided to revert the router to the default factory settings, press the reset button just in case, and completely reinstall and connect it as if it were out of the box. The setup went well and the setup utility said that all connections were running fine, but the main band is still not working. I am running it wired to a vista desktop computer and trying to connect 3 vista laptops. The main connection shows up briefly in the network connections window in all laptops but not long enough for me to connect. It keeps popping up and then disappearing.....I hope someone here can help me figure out whats wrong and I REALLY hope its not a hardware problem.......please help!

Now are you able to see 2.4GHz Network or the 5GHz network? If you are unable to see 5GHz network on your Computer, This means some configuration settings are missing thats the reason you are unable to find your Wireless Network. Here are some settings which you can set on your Router and i think this might make your wireless network visible to your computer.
This Settings are for your 2.4GHz Network :
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
- Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
- Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

Hello,
I just recently bought a wrt610n router and was wondering I see both the 5g and 2.5g but only one is connected at a time.
I have them both set to automaticly connect.
one of them is named linksys and the other is named linksys media.
I thought they should both be connected at the same time?
Am I missing out on the dual band connection?

I've just placed an order for BT Infinity 1 and have been advised I will be receiving the new BT Home Hub 5.
Can someone explain if it would be advantageous for me to order a Dual-Band Wi-Fi Dongle 600 or not?
How can I check if my laptops - Dell Studio 1749 and HP ENVY dv6 - can already handle dual band connections, if that is what we are talking about here?

To be honest, you are unlikely to see any speed improvement by adding a wifi dongle, also the 5GHz band has very limited range.
I would wait until everything is working, before ordering any more stuff.

Could wifi with a university network drop often because of a 5ghz band connection?

Hey guys,
I've been having wifi issues at my school/work (same location) with the connection dropping randomly. It seems to happen several times an hour. I purchased a MBA months ago and had no problems with wifi connectivity till recently. My school has acquired a new access point in the facility. It was right around the release of Mavericks. So now I've become unclear on whether it's the network or the new OS. Anyways, the network is WPA 2 enterprise with dual-band connectivity. This past week I have done my fair share of studying on dual-band technology and now understand perks and downfalls to 2.4ghz versus 5ghz bands. That reading was due to a connection issue at home. However, today I finally realized that I was connected to the 5ghz band at work/school by using the option key and clicking the wifi icon. After browsing through several forums, I was still unsure if A) the 5ghz band was responsible for wifi dropping, and B) Whether or not I could disable the wifi from defaulting to the 5ghz and use 2.4ghz as a solution instead.
Since I could not find answers to those two questions I have tried the following...
I changed the MTU to "1453" since it's the so-called "magic number" for mac's. And yes, so far it is the magic number because the wifi has not dropped once since applying it. I'm still standing by, convinced it will drop. Wireless diagnostics is currently monitoring if it does. Typically I use the ethernet adapter so I don't have to worry about any of this. That's a fix, but not the one I'm looking for. It's flat out annoying! I know I can try renewing the DHCP lease as well. I haven't done it yet because I'm seeing if the MTU was the sole source of the problem. I've already performed basic troubleshooting and like usual it didn't solve anything. That's not to say that restarting doesn't cover a higher percentage of issues!
Honestly the MTU change could be the end of my problems, but I'd still like some insight on my two questions in the first paragraph. Any guidance is strongly appreciated. I've been loving my mac and the community since I made the switch not too long ago. I'm just still familiarizing myself with everything. Thanks in advance for any help!

That's correct.
When it's unable to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server, machines are supposed to self-assign themselves an address from the 169.254.x.x range.
This is so that you can, for example, connect two machines with an Ethernet cable or via Wi-Fi without the need for a DHCP server and the two machines will be able to talk to each other.

So the big question here is why your machine is failing to obtain an address via DHCP, and it sounds like an issue with the DHCP servers on your network.

Best way to have dual band on the 2.4ghz mi424wr

I have a cisco eA3500 dual band connected WAN to LAN to my mi424wr (not dual band). After much testing a gazillion setting combinations, i have confirmed that i want to use the cisco dual band router as my wireless connection for my client devices.
This works fine now with the one problem that i cant control my settop boxes from my other client devices (mostly iOS devices) i believe because they are technically on separate networks...devices on the cisco and the stbs on the mi424wr.
A secondary issue is that i want to add additional dual band network coverage through the house, and i hope both issues can be solved by the following:
From another recent thread related to accessing this secondary router, i was instructed to deactivate DHCP on the cisco and attach it to the mi424wr LAN to LAN. I am assuming in bridge mode. I never had to do it because my original problem was resolved before getting to that step.
So, if i do this above step, will i still see the cisco SSID, and be able to connect to it at dual band as i do now? Will the cisco still be a "separate" network but/will i be able to see all devices (and control the cable boxes?)
Even better, if I cat 5 another identical cisco from the first cisco and set it in bridge mode(run it to the second floor) what do I need to do, if possible, to be able to move freely between those to signal sources without having to select a different network?

To answer your question what you have been advised to do is setting up your Cisco as an AP.
1. On your Actiontec check to see what range it is assigning DHCP in. If necessary limit/ adjust the range so you have a series of IPs you can use for static IPs. If your DHCP range is 192.168.1.100- 150 that is fine. Your Actiontec router is by default normally 192.168.1.1.
2. On your Actiontec you can either turn of or leave on the WiFi. If you leave it on select a channel 1-6-11.
3. On your Cisco turn off the DHCP server and assign it a static WAN IP. If your Actiontec is 192.168.1.1 you could make your Cisco 192.168.1.2. Set the 2.4 Ghz radio to a channel that is not the same as the channel on the Actiontec. I also recommend that you use a different SSID if you left the Actiontec's radio on. Set your 5 Ghz radio to whatever channel you like and give it a SSID that is different than any of the other SSIDs you have used. Connect the Cisco to the Actiontec as you said LAN to LAN. If you want to add another Cisco, use another channel, another SSID and connect LAN to LAN from eithet a port on the Actiontec or from the first Cisco.
Another option to connect either the first or second Cisco to your network is to use a MOCA adapter which will replace the Ethernet cable by using the coaxial cable that your TV is using. One of the real nice features of the Actiontec is the built in MOCA. Makes it very easy to install additional APs to improve WiFi coverage.
Bridging is another option but to keep it reasonably simple and since you want to keep your STB on your primary network for administraive purposes using your Cisco as an AP is a very good choice.
Some people on this forum swear at their Actiontecs, but I have no complaints about mine. The only time it has rebooted is when it downloaded a firmware update and I experienced a power outage that lasted longer than my UPS.

Wireless Expander WRE54G and Dual Band router WRT610N

I used to have a band G-type network with a Linksys Router and a Wireless Expander WRE54G. It worked fine.
Now I have a WRT610 N Dual Band router. I am trying to connect the WRE54G to the netowrk (using the G-band of course) but it doesn't work. Runnig the Setup utility from the CD (og the Range Expander) ends in a "Site survey" which terminates with an error "Site survey fail". Maybe the installation program is not able to handle the WRT610N.
Any suggestions?

Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240. Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...It should open your Expander set-up...
Once you get to the set-up page,change the Expander Settings...While changing the Expander settings you have to make sure that the Wireless Settings(SSID/Network Name and WEP/WPA Key) are identical on both the devices(Router and Expander)...Also make sure to change the Expander's default IP to match your network and Gateway Address should be your Router's address...ex.Expander's IP Address : 192.168.1.240(assuming your router's default IP Address is 192.168.1.1),Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1...
After configuring the Expander you should disconnect it from the Computer and go into Local Area Connection TCP/IP Properties and set it back to Obtain IP Address Automatically...Disconnect the Expander from the computer and power cycle both the devices(Expander and Router) ...Your Expander should be configured...

Dual Band (5ghz and 2.4 ghz) Wireless Network Config and Dropped Connection

Hi, I have an Airport Extreme (802.11N) and a Motorola WR850G (802.11A/B/G) that I'm trying to connect in a dual band setup - but something in my setup is causing the Airport to drop it's connection (before the connection is dropped - everything works great). After I lose connectivity, both routers show up in my list of wireless networks, the light stays green, but I don't have local or internet access. When I try to reconnect, the log on times out. Also, the Airport isn't displayed in the Airport Utility (light is green on the airport itself though). Unplugging and resetting the Airport Allows all computers on the network to connect locally and to the internet for a few hours until the connection drops again. While it is up and running, I have no problems streaming movies off the connected Airdisk, navigating the internet, and connecting both N and G devices to the network.
I'd love to hear from you if you've gotten a similar setup to work, and if possible, have you provide the settings you used to make this work. I've looked around quite a bit and haven't seen a detailed description of the process (even from the Apple documentation). Also, advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated since my wireless networking knowledge is pretty basic.
My configuration:
Time Warner cable modem connected to the Airport's WAN port. WR850G connected by LAN port to Airport's LAN port. Bridge Mode check box selected on WR850G. Airport setup for 802.11n (5Ghz). Unique SSIDs to determine which network is 'N'. Same password for both networks. My Firmware and utilities are up to date.
Computers/Devices on Network:
Two Macs with Airport Extreme N cards. A Vista PC with a D-link N card (only compatible with 2.4 Ghz so it connects to the G network). A Vista PC with a GB ethernet card connected to the Airport Extreme. Various other G devices like iPod touches and an old iBook. Airdisk connected to the Airport Extreme.

I removed the second router (Moto wr850g) and everything seems to be working smoothly. It must be some settings on that one that are causing the problem, but I haven't been able to get it configured correctly. I noticed there were some IP conflicts with my wireless wanting to use the old Moto router IP and trying to assign my Mac an IP from that router. Does anyone know specifically what needs to be disabled on a router in bridge mode? Since I have a third party router there aren't any handy wizards that can configure it for me.

Time Machine: External Hard Drive connected to a dual-band network

I currently have a dual-band network setup using a 1TB Time Capsule (wireless-n only) and an AEBS (wireless b/g) in bridge mode.
My unibody MBP and ATV utilize the Time Capsule, while an older Macbook and MacMini utilize the AEBS. I have Time Machine configured on the MBP to use the Time Capsule for backup.
I have connected an external 500GB hard drive to the AEBS for the purpose of using Time Machine for the Macbook and MacMini. The Airport Utility shows the external drive connected to the AEBS, but when I try to configure Time Machine for the Macbook and MacMini I am only allowed to select the Time Capsule as the destination. Sorry for the long post. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Assuming you have the square Extreme (not the UFO-style), you can use an external USB HDD with it.
Time Machine backups to AirDisks (e.g. USB HDD attached to Extreme) is unsupported, but has been successful by some. As well, once you decide to move any old TM backups (HDD connected directly to the Mac) to an AirDisk, you cannot continue backing up to your previous TM backup. The format it saves to vs. a local HDD is different. The folder structure you see becomes a sparsebundle/disk image via the AirDisk.

Mac Pro connects to the G network on my dual-band instead of N

Hi. My Mac Pro keeps connecting to the G network on my dual-band instead of N. I can confirm the network/router are fine because my Mini connects to the N network fine, on the correct channel and at 270 Mbit/s.
I'm using a NETGEAR RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router. It is capable of simultaneous N and G networks as well as 2.4Ghz+5Ghz.
I've tried every channel and combo. Very occasionally the Mac Pro will register the N network 270 Mbit/s but will drop back to 54 Mbit/s.
More evidence, AP Grapher reports that it is using the G channel (eg 9) instead of the N channel (eg 43).
I also tried a Netgear DGN 2.4Ghz wireless-n router with the same result. That router only runs N, and only at 2.4Ghz, but Network utility reported that it was usually connected at 54 Mbit/s instead of 130 Mbit/s.
Combined with the fact that the Mac Mini works fine suggests to me that my network card is faulty.
Any suggestions before I lug this big beast back to the store for a new card?

I believe I've solved the first problem. The router gave both networks the same SSID by default. I have now set them to
myname-n
myname-g
I can now choose either network and the link speed is reported as 270 Mbit/s or 54 Mbit/s respectively.
However, I can still only achieve peak transfer speeds of 2.8MB/sec and AP Grapher reports 41/270 Mbit/sec unless I switch to 2.4Ghz only, in which case I can achieve 52/130 and 4.3MB/sec, well below 270 Mbit/s or even 130.

IMac connecting to N channel on a dual band router but only at 54mps

I have an iMac late 2009 model connected wireless to a dual band Netgear WNDR3300 router. My problem is it only connects at 54mps on the N channel and that is with the router placed 2 meters from the computer. My PC laptop similarly placed connects at 270mps no problem. When I option click on the Airport Utility in the menu bar it tells me I'm in 802.11n mode on channel 149(5ghz). When I first got the iMac it connected easily at 270mps. So something has happened. Has anyone had a similar problem?

I had a similar problem with a NetGear DualBand DGND3300v2, the issue in the end was security.
I was initially trying to use WPA-PSK and getting this exact same issue, with my Mac, stuck at 54Mbps on the 5GHz band, disabling the security allowed me to connect at 'up to 270' but obviously not secure, so moving up the security options tried WEP, this also allowed 'up to 270'. WPA-PSK was no go, so I went to and am using WPA2-PSK and it works fine, sometimes I get a connection of 300Mbps.
So give it a try, let me know of it works for you...

Connecting Harmony Hub to Apple Dual Band Router

It appears that the Harmony Hub only connects to 2.4 ghz and my dual Airport Extreme, although it sends out both 5 and 2.4 doesn't work with it. If we can't find a work around one thing we are considering is whether we can add a second (2.4ghz only) router to the network either directly to the modem or as an extension of the network. I'm a little (a lot) over my head on this stuff so would appreciate any suggestions or approaches. thanks

I see that you are experiencing issues with setting up the printer over the network on the Comcast Dual Band Router.
I will do my best to help you.
Restore the factory settings on the printer.
Press the OK button on the printer, go to service, then select restore defaults.
Print a configuration page from the printer to make sure the IP and SSID are cleared.
Most likely it is the settings on the router that might need to be changed.
If it is set to 5 GHZ network you may need to change to 2.4 GHZ. (rename the 5ghz or shut it off)
You might also have to set it to WPA personal.
The WPA key setting needs to be on AES to work correctly not TKIP.
Multi casting needs to be turned on.
Firewall on router has to have open ports for printer.
If you have Mac Filtering you need to give printer hardware address from configuration page.
You might need to contact Comcast for further assistance to check those settings.
I have provided a document for setting up the wireless connection or you can follow my different methods provided.

Problem connecting 1525nw to Comcast Dual Band Router

I recently got a new Comcast Dual Band router. Since then I have not been able to connect my HP 1525nw wireless printer to the network. Have tried all methods, WPS, PushButton, Pin, installation thru HP drivers, resetting to factory defaults etc.......any suggestions?
BTW - the printer was connected earlier to the Comcast Single Band router. It used to work just fine then.

Cisco 2500 dual band router. the hp printer is connects on one band, pc the other help

Cisco 2500 wireless router Dual Band N, HP PhotoSmart C309-g, Windows 7
PC cannot find the printer because it connects on a different band. Cisco uses the same name for both bands. How do I get both devices on the same network.

I also have a dual band router, Cisco's LinkSys EA3500 N750; and the 5.0gHz band is necessary to avoid interference with other equipment operating on 2.4gHz. I put TP-link 2.4/5.0 gHz adapters on each PC (one HP another Sony, both a few years old) and the PCs now work fine, no loss of internet/network access. Would that solution also work for the printer? The printer does not recognize any network (even though the 2.4gHz shows as available and strong on the TP-link device. I used the same name and security code for the new router as the old; again, neither PC had a problem finding it.

My son-in-law uses a Netgear model WNDR3700-100NAS Dual Band Router. I just bought one but it hasn't arrived yet. This router is compatible with the iPad: 802.11a/b/g/n, supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, supports WPA2 encryption.
I have ATT UVerse, but the UVerse router range is quite low. I bought a wifi repeater, which increases the range somewhat. The output from the UVerse will be plugged in to the Netgear router.
