WRT610N PPoE issues ?!

Hi Forum, Last week I purchased Linksys WRT610N router and Draytek Vigor 110 ADSL modem combo. My intention was to use the Vigor110 as PPoE to PPoA bridge for Linksys. Now, only problem is that for the life of me I can't make it work. Linksys PPoE client Internet configuration is rather straightforward (and I have a good technical background btw) ... but it simply won't pick up the ADSL connection and IP address from Vigor110. After trying to connect, it simply throws up the error "unable to obtain the IP address from PPoE server" ... something like that. Are there any know problems when pairing Linksys WRT610N and Vigor110 modem ? or even worst option when using PPoE with WRt610N in general. Also, when Vigor110 modem is connected directly to the PC ... everything is working just fine via Windows native PPoE client (so modem is OK). Thx! I'm from UK btw and my provider is UKONLINE.

Well ... it's good to know that I'm not the only one!
Anyway, I had a chat with my friend yesterday and we came to conclusion that fact that router is not supporting PPoA is rather "normal" as it's not ATM device (it's not modem enabled) and the comments from the "SPAWN 06" above are definitely misleading. Router should be able to bridge the modem PPoA connection over PPoE ... otherwise Linksys PPoE implementation doesn't make sense at all.
I really hope that Linksys would fix PPoE ... as I just want hand over of the unmolested ADSL traffic to the router (from the ADSL ethernet modem). Nothing more, nothing less. Additionally, I'm getting much better connection rate with Draytek Vigor110 then with the AM200 itself and I don't need any traffic shaping from the AM200 in the connection chain. Draytek is just pure Ethernet ADSL modem ... so I'm really keen to use it.
Otherwise WRT610N is a good router. On the wireless end, I'm getting over 10MB/s of traffic burst (5GHz band) and that's in best case FastEthernet cable speed. Quite pleased.

  • WRT610N connectivity issues

I am not sure what caused this, but I started having problems with my WRT610N recently. This is a dual band router that puts out a 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz network and I never had any trouble connecting to either of them until last week. Suddenly, I found I was unable to connect to the 2.4Ghz network but the 5Ghz was fine. I had made no changes to either network; both were still on exactly the same settings.
I did some troubleshooting and discovered that I was able to connect to the 2.4 when it was insecure. I did further testing and discovered I could connect to it with a WEP encryption but it was when I set up the WPA that I could no longer connect. Strangely, the 5Ghz is still on the WPA with the same password and I am able to connect to that one fine.
Does anyone know what is going on here? It is not as important now that I am able to bypass the problem by using WEP, but I am still wondering what changed and what can I do to get it back to normal. Thanks!

Try to reset and reconfigure the router .
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds .
Power cycle the modem and router .
Open the setup page of the Linksys router .
Configure the settings manually on it .
Also create a new wireless network do not use old wireless name .
What is the current firmware version on your Linksys router ?

  • Wrt610n Mbps issues

i recently purchased the linksys wrt610n wireless router I tested it by setting up both computers in the same room where i am getting a signal strength of 100%.
using LAN speed test with a 100MB test file i am getting writes at about 11 Mbps and reads of about 44 Mbps. Needless to say when i moved the router to another room the speeds dropped.
I then hooked the computers directly up to each other through the gigabit connection and perfomred the test again. I was now getting writes of about 50 Mbps and reads of about 70 Mbps.
I am pretty sure the speeds should be alot higher than that, does this mean the router is bad and I should try another one or is there a problem with my computer that I should get diagnosed?
ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean MBps (megabytes per second) or
    Mbps (megabits per second)?
Some things to check for the LAN test:
Make each machine's NIC is running in Gbit full duplex
What is the speed of the drive you are writing to? USB? SATA?
What speed do you get copying to the drive, internal to each system?
Some things to check for the WAN test:
Does each client have an N capable card?
What connection speed is each client showing?

  • WRT610N firmware issue

    hi,
i have my WRT610N connected toWD 1TB usb hdd, i am using B18 firmware because i have been told that  the latest firmware does not support 1TB hard disks (this does not really make a lot of sense to me).
on the other, using B18 firmware is terrible, the connection keeps droping and people said that the solution is to upgrade the firmware. so please, does anyone have a solution to get a hard disk working on a consistant connection?

After any Firmware Upgrade you must reset your Router to factory defaults and then re-configure it...If you have not resetted the Router after the last firmware upgrade you must reset it now...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your Router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your Router...See if it resolves your problem...
NOTE : You must disconnect the USB Hard Drive before resetting the router...

  • WRT610N Connection issues

Looking for a bit of advice to see if anyone else has encountered the same.. The WRT610 has been working rather well now for about 9 months since i purchased it.. Then just the other day it stopped working.. Not entirely, only with the wan portion.. i can unplug the wan connection and connect that straight to my PC with no issues.. I’m back up and running in less than 20 seconds.. I plug the connection into the WRT610 and i never acquire an IP address.. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest as of Yesterday, i have reset, factory reset, used the reset button on the back and still have the same issue.. Router just will not acquire a DHCP address from the wan.. There are times it will get an address, this usually comes after about 2 hrs of working with it but then it only works for about 5 to 10 mins then back to the same thing.. Its lost the address again.. Any ideas?

After resetting the Router you need to re-configure the router accordingly(depends upon your ISP)...
If your Internet Service Providor is Cable follow this link
If your Internet Service Providor is DSL follow this link
To re-configure your Router you need to use a desktop computer(don't use a Wireless Computer)...

  • WRT610N Performance Issue

I recently purchased a WRT610N router to replace the WRT54GX I had been using for the past year, thinking that it would represent an upgrade which would provide a stronger wireless signal.  I was greatly disappointed by the fact that the WRT54GX appears to have better range than the WRT610N.  I have tried both routers from various locations in my house and,  even from the remotest corner of my property, I get two signal bars from the WRT54GX whereas the WRT610N doesn't even register a signal.  My home network includes a MacBook Pro (wireless G), an HP laptop (wireless G) and a couple PCs with WUSB600N network adapters (wireless N).  Is there any adjustment or tweak to enhance the WRT610N's performance?  I'd hate to think I purchased a more expensive and newer Linksys router that was inferior to my old one.

  • WRT610N SSID not broadcasting

    Hi,
I'm having problems connecting any of my computers to my wrt610n wirelessly.
I have the main computer connected with ethernet and I have internet access, however none of my computers, including the main, can see the wireless network.
I do have SSID broadcast enabled for both 5g and 2.4G in advanced settings, and have tried both with and without wireless security.
The odd thing is that my Xbox 360 sees and is able to connect to my 5g connection (networkname_media) just fine, but still doesn't even see my 2.4g connection.
I am stumped here. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks
    -edit-
followed the instructions here: http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/WRT610N-Wireless-Issues/m-p/276315/highlight/true... allowed me to ceonnect, but with "limited connectivity" no internet access.

Delete all the preferred network from the computer and try to add the wireless network manually on the computer. Now,restart entire network and check.

  • WRT610n Issues - Help Please

Hi, I have had my WRT610n for a few weeks, and i have a few questions.nI have an option in my Network Settings Called:  EGHN Qos Policy Holder?  What is this for? If i right click and select "View Webpage" I get the following website linked open.
    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Content_C1%26cid%3D1118334627928&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper
"The page you requested could not be found. It is possible that the address is incorrect, or that the page no longer exists. "
So why do a i have an option to click on an Invalid webpage, What am i meant to be seeing? Same issue when using either "EGHN QosDevice" and "EGHN Qos Manager Device", both bring the invalid wepage from Linksys. The WRT610N is the only link that opens the correct weblink (in that case the local 192.168.1.1)
    Any suggestions?
Also i have a 1TB Westerdigital USB2 HDD, which despite the abysmal USB1 speeds the 610n can handle, Has seemed to of stopped working. I have the drives set to NTFS, which i here some people isn't supported... but all the directories are found, and i have copied to the USBHDD from Linux and Vista machines previously which is when i noticed that the USB speed was 3Mbps P/S instead of 30Mbps as i would of expected.  So where is the Shared drive meant to appear?
Do i remember that it appears in the Network settings folder too, becuase i cannot work out how to access my shared drive folders.  Any ideas.... Do we know NTFS isn't supported?
Also I have a Intel 5100 wireless N network card, that can only optain a 135Mbps connection to the 5Hz range, It connects at 270Mbps for about 5 seconds, before falling back to 135Mbps and staying there with an excellent signal.
Is this a Linksys problem or Intel? or Combination of both, has anyone with an Intel 5100 connected faster?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

The Shared Drive is meant to appear on all the computers in your network if you have mapped the network drive on all the computers...
If you are not gettings the desired speed using the linksys router do these settings :
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1

  • Issue accessing 5GHZ channel WRT610N to uverse

Not sure if anyone has encountered this issue, I connected my dual band WRT610N to uverse router. I disabled the wireless feature on the Att 3801hgv router and now use linkys router. Both 2.4GHz and 5GHz network can be seen however I am only able to connect 2.4Ghz channel. see setting below i am using. Hope someone can help.

Make sure that there's no IP address conflict between the two routers. If you cascade the routers and set the WRT610N as an access point then you need to disable the DHCP server of the Linksys router. You may use Linksys KB article 3733 to guide you.

  • WRT610N NAS NTFS issue for deleting directory

    Dear all,
I got one issue with the WRT610N and the NAS feature. This is really a nightmare. I have been looking everywhere, I found people with the same issue but never find any solution.
I am running Vista on a laptop connected to the WRT610N via the 802.11n link but the issue is not here.
I have a hard drive of 40GB (but same issue exist with another drive of 500GB) plug to the USB port. I can read all file without any issue. I can also add file without any problem. The problem come when I try to delete some directory. In this case I got the an 0x8007045D Error indicating that I need to have the right permission for doing this. However I do not have any issue in deleting files. In case I delete all files from a directory I can't delete the directory without the error. I map the drive to the windows explorer with the admin account which give read and write access.
Without this fix the NAS feature can only be used in read only!
Could you let me know if you had the same issue? If you solve this could you post the way to fix it? or maybe am i doing something wrong?
Your help will be very appreciatated.
    Regards,
PS: I am also running the latest firmware (v1.00.02 B10). The problem was also present with previous software.
(Mod note: Edited post for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

I have been in contact with the on-line linksys support last week-end. They said that I should have a feedback of the issue by e-mail. I received the e-mail today from lynksys UK support. They asked for more details of the issue and then I just provided them more details of the issue including screenshots. I hope this will be fixed otherwise the NAS feature is just useless for me. I use the NAS for automatic backup which synchronizes files and therefore delete directories when they have been delated in the source. I got similar issue when using iTunes from MP3 database. I guess that the application try sometime to create directories when adding photo album to MP3 database. So basically a non reliable NAS is just useless. I found the WRT610N very attractive in terms of features, i.e. everything I need in single box but very disappointed of the various issue I had on the router regarding the DLNA issue, at least with the previous firmware.
Having the hard drive in FAT32 instead of NTFS is also not a good option. It took 8 hours to copy about 400 GB of data on my western digital 2.5" (500 GB drive) when the drive is format as NTFS and attached to my PC. When using  FAT32 it took 5 to 5 days! FAT32 is very old and not reliable format (no journal file). NTFS is said as supported in other linksys product so I guess that it shoud be possible to have it on this prodcut. It sure that for a long time NTFS support on linux was not always easy for write access but I think that things have changed since that time. In case NTFS would not be possible they should provide other reliable and fast drive format such as Linux EXT2/EXT3 formant. However, I tried those format and it do not work. That is quite strange since this is a native linux format and the router is probably running on linux system.
For your information, I also had some disk corruption when I did some delation of files/directory with a FAT32 drive. It was less reccurent than NTFS but still not reliable. However I did not try the latest firmware with a FAT32 drive.
I will let you know when I will have feedback. If anybody has similar issue please just mention it here, at least we and linksys can be aware of the situation. Linksys should also take this opportunity to listen to their customers and enhance their product. I really believe that this product has been put on the market without the proper validation and I am suprise that it takes so many months to have updated firmwares. We can understand that bug could exist, but they should fixe it.

  • WRT610n help with PCI compliance issue ICMP timestamp

I'm having a issue with ICMP times stamps and pci compliance, they keep saying it is allowing timestamps, but my firewall shows it not checked, I see no particular option on the router to disable timestamp
    again I have a wrt610n ver 2 router
    anyone run into this?
i sure could use some help
    Thanks!

Did you tried to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on your linksys router.

  • WRT610N and VPN issue

Linksys please fix the WRT610N issue with VPN using IPsec. I loose my internet connection everytime I try to log into my VPN for work. I have to reboot the router to back online, after which I can usually connect. Please we need an update to fix this issue!

I recently had this same issue and spent about 3 hours on the phone with the Linksys support.   I am using a laptop with wireless-N USB adapter and the WRT610N.  The tech support reloaded all the firmware updates to the WRT610N which I had already done and still had the same issue.   My issue was I could connect to the internet but connecting through VPN to my work system causes a drop in my wireless connection to the WRT610N within 1 minute.
Ultimately the solution to this problem came down to a conflict with WLAN-client that I was using to establish the wireless-N connection.   The WLAN client I was using is the one that came with my Linksys Wireless-N USB adapter.
The solution was to disable the WLAN-client and use the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration Utility.   You can find out how to enable this by going to the Microsoft website.   Once I had all other WLAN clients and the internal wireless-g card disabled I was able to VPN through the wireless-N adapter and the WRT610N with no issues (using the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration Utility).

  • Connectivity problem with WRT610N v1 due to routing table issue

    Greetings!
I have a puzzling issue with my new WRT610N.It is currently used as an access point so it's IP address is not the default 192.168.1.1 and instead 192.168.1.253.
After a month of use, internet connectivity via wireless has stopped working. My wireless clients can  connect to it via WPA2 but it cannot reach my gateway, i.e., I cannot ping 192.168.1.1 to get out to the internet.
After checking all its settings, I've found that  it's routing table for the LAN & Wireless interface has a gateway of 0.0.0.0. Comparing this with an old WRT54G, the gateway should be the IP of the WRT610N, i.e., 192.168.1.253.
The obvious solution would be to delete the invalid routing table entry, but the router's web interface does not provide that capability. I've tried entering a manual route entry of Destination LAN IP = 192.168.1.0, Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0, Gateway = 192.168.1.253, Interface = LAN & Wireless but the router rejects it as an invalid route.
The last attempt is applying the latest firmware but the gateway 0.0.0.0 issue still persists.
Thanks in advance for the comments and suggestions.

Since you have upgraded the firmware of your Router, Have you resetted your Router and re-configure all the settings on your Router back again. If not then Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Here are some wireless settings which you can set on your Router.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"...

  • WRT610N v1 connection issues, media center and internet

Good evening. I am having a connection issue with my wireless/wired connection and am wondering if anyone else has had the issue.
    I am running the following
    WRT610N V1
    Firmware Version: 1.00.03 B15
    Windows 7 Enterprise Edition
I have an Xfxforce 780i motherboard with onboard dual 1gb nics plugged into the router.
I am also using an Xbox 360 Wireless N device.
The issue i have been having recently are two, both seem to be router related.  Sometimes while gaming or on the web I will losing connection to my gateway. I have both of my nic mac addressed reserved in the router.  On my windows 7 machine the internet connection will stop working and I will have to repair the connection.
The issue i have been experiencing with my Xbox 360 is sever choppiness while streaming recorded tv shows over my network
For the most part while I am streaming the video's i am doing nothing else, it should be noted that i can watch the vidoes on the PC without an issue so the issue shouldn't be pc related.  I initally though maybe resource related but the vidoes run fine on the pc.  Restarting has no effect.
I did do a hard reset on my router but that did not solve the issue.  The issue is semi random but the frequence is fairly higher.  Sometimes I will get through a full show or two and sometimes the quality of the steam will be horried. Where pausing and restarting won't do anything.
I have used a direct wired connection and I still get the video degredation so I believe the issue is my access point.
For the price that i paid for this unit, $200 - yes i did say 200 as it is a V1 model and i got it when they came out, this is one of the worst issue I have ever had.
I am going to test a netgear 54g tomorrow night to see what experience I get.
I did some poking on the forum here and I noticed others have had some degredation issue but nothing seem to solve it even though their threads are marked as solved.  I have tried turning off windows 7 firewall and disabling my AV to make sure those weren't the issue, which they aren't.
It should be noticed that my machine is the following and I am fairly sure the issue isn't pc hardware related.
    win7 pro
    xfx force 780i
    intel e8500 dc 3.16
    evga nvida 9800 gtx ssc
seagate dual 250gb raid 0 hard drive
    4gb g.skill pc8500 ram.
I am adding more ram later this weekend to take it to 8gb and a new 1tb drive to transfer my media center data too. I do not believe this will fix my issue since the only issue I can see is the Linksys router.
    thoughts?

Try these things, in this order:
    1. Disable Home Defender.
If that does not work, try
    2. Reducing MTU to 1300 (recommended by someone else on here for a throughput issue). This may not be relevant to you, but it doesn't hurt to try. MTU settings don't generally apply to in-network connections. But who knows what's what when it comes to this router.
    3. Disable Upnp. Some people, like myself find this setting necessary - but you may want to just go ahead and disable to see if that helps.
    4. You need to remove the name of the competing product (that router) from your post. I got banned from the forum for a few days for mentioning that I was using so and so router for the time being. Do it before the post is deleted or you're banned.
Good Luck. Let us know if anything here fixes your problem.
Remember that you'll need to give the router 'time' with each fix separately. Don't  do all 3 things. Do 1 at a time and give the router a few days, to feel out if the solution works or not.

I got to explorer, choose network, then click the computer icon for WRT610N, it asks for a user name and password I enter the admin user name + password (here I notice that the domain is by default my computer domain, so I enter user name as \\WRT610N\admin) however, I get a prompt which says the user name is invalid.
    Any ideas???
Also on another note, if I turn over my router to check which version it is, there is no version number mentioned... my firmware as displayed when I get to the router status page displays as "Firmware Version:  1.00.03 B15  May. 14, 2009"
Thanks in advance for the help.

If its not accepting the default Username and Password, then have you tried to change the password to access the storage Drive when you were trying to configure the settings on  your Router? If you are not sure about the settings, then login to the Router setup page and click on the "Storage" tab and click on the sub tab "Administration" and under "User Management" select the User "admin" and click on "Modify" and change the password and click on Save Settings...
Once you are done with the settings, now try to Map the drive again on your computer, and when prompted for the Username and Password, type username and password (admin : username and password : which you created) and click Ok. This will let you view the Shared Folders which you have created on your Storage Drive. Right click on it and select "Map Network Drive" and below check the box "Re-Connect at Logon" and click on Finish.
These way it will map the Storage drive on your computer and you should be able to transfer the files on your Storage Drive.
