WRT610N problems

I have linksys wrt610n router and my isp is verizon fios.  I am trying to connect the linksys router with the verizon router but it doesnt connect to the internet when trying to setup with my laptop.  I can connect to the internet with only the verizon router which only supports 11g with wireless adapter from linksys but cant connect to the linksys router with the wireless adapter.  Can anyone help fix the problem?

  • WRT610N problems after firmware upgrade to 1.00.03.15

I've been using my WRT610N (hardware version 1) for years running firmware version 1.00.00.18.
I always used the 5Ghz SSID from laptops, iPad and iPhone and never bothered about the 2.4Ghz SSID.
Due to more frequent "cannot connect to <5Ghz SSID>" problems recently I decided to upgrade to the latest firmware version (1.00.03.15). Immediately since this firmware upgrade, the 5Ghz SSID is invisible to all devices except (strangely) my iPad. All other devices see only the 2.4 Ghz SSID.
I've tried switching channels etc. but to no avail.
Clearly, the firmware upgrade is the only thing here that changed but I'm at a loss to get the 5Ghz SSID back into action.
Anyone has an idea what's wrong here? The only remedy I can think of is to revert back to the old firmware version but somehow that feels wrong.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob V.

Try setting 5GHz network as "Wireless-N only" instead of MIXED. That should help resolve this issue.

  • WRT610N Problem - 5 Ghz no internet

I just picked up a WRT610N to replace my WRGT54.
    Not too thrilled.
    1) range/speed is worse than the 54.
    2) this is the main problem: the 24 Ghz works fine , altho not as strong a signal as the 54 (!!).
The 5 GHZ sees the network but I have no internet connectivity at all  at 5 GHz.
    (My laptops have Intel 4965AGN).

This is the Best Settings for your 2.4GHz, I to did the same settings on my Router and its working Perfectly fine.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1

  • Wrt610n problem, can't seem to write to hard drive

so i set up the router and have set up all the shares along with the user properties with admin status. I have mapped the network drive on Vista and am able to see the hard drive and play everything off it. But i cant seem to write to it, everytime i try to it says i need permission. i know i have connected via admin status with my user name not the admin user name since i cant seem to with vista.
    suggestions? TIA

    Hello there!
With your concern, are you connecting a USB thumb drive or HDD to the router? What's the difference?
With USB Thumb Drive attached to your router, it only reads it as NTFS and you have Read-Only permission to this. That means, only opening files. With HDD or hard disk drive, make sure it is formatted to Fat/Fat32 for read-write permission. Also, make sure the user you created on the router's storage settings is set to read-write permission as well. Take note that before you proceed with reformatting your hard drive, you have to create a backup first.
So far, this are the options you have to check. Also, test if you can read-write once the hard drive is connected directly to the computer.
    Keep posted!
     for heads up! <<<call_me_jam_>>>

  • Problems with wrt610n and mac mini (MA206LL/A*)

i purchased a new wrt610n and one of the machines that is connected is a mac mini, 1.66 ghz intel core duo.
#ma2066/ll/a for those who want to compare notes. the computer is stock with the 802.11g wireless card
that came with the machine. it is running the current software and all the updates are up to date.
    i am using wpa 2 personal w / aes
their is some kind of incompatibility or issue between the wrt610n and the mac mini.
either using the wireless connection OR connected directly to the router, web pages are very slow to load. sometimes it can take
up to 45 seconds for the mac mini to open up a webpage. for 45 seconds it is at 'contacting website'
when  i try to run software update, i get a time out error -1001, make sure you can connect to the internet and try again.
hulu desktop is also running slow.
copying a file from the mac mini to a another computer over wifi averages about 1 mb/s
when i informed linksys about this problem, they took my phone number and said that a linksys technician / senior tech support employee
would call me back. that was a day or so ago. i asked if i can have any newer firmware, considering the latest is 5 months old.
i am considering returning this router, but i don't see a lot of good alternatives that have similar features. i have 21 days to return this. the restocking fee will be 15% i am also considering various 802.11n solutions for the mac mini, even including the dell 1500 wireless mini card, i heard it works as an airport card.
if i do get a different model router i would like external antennas.
my previous router was a 5 year old wrt54gs version 2.0, and it never had a problem with any of the computers with the network.
the trouble shooting steps involved changing the beacon to 75 and the mtu to something else, i forgot. it did not make a difference.
i moved the mini and connected it wired to the wrt610 and turned off the airport wireless card and there was no improvement.
when i disconnected the wrt610n and connected the mac mini directly to my dsl modem. the issues were suddenly gone.
theres some kind of problem with this particular unit. and i would like to hear from others who have solved this or are experiencing

  • Connectivity Problems with Cisco WRT610n

I've recently started to get problems with the wireless connection to my WRT610n wireless router.  The mac drops the internet connection periodically - 3 or 4 times a day.  I've run both iStumbler and WIFi analyser and it doesn't seem to be the wireless connection that's dropping - just the ISP.  When I try to connect to a website I just get "contacting....." in the safari status bar.  The only way to re-connect is to switch airport to the other WiFi band.
It happens on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.  There are other low-band users on the same channel so I've hard coded to a channel that isn't being used.  I've deleted all the local wireless services that I don't use from the networks list.  I've blown the latest firmware into the router  - none of thiese has made a difference.  When it occurs, running the macbook network analyitics shows wireless green and ISP red - but I can still connect using iPhone and windows PC - so the ISP hasn't dropped.
Interestingly, while trying to fix this problem I discovered another.  I cannot connect wirelessly to the router's set-up page - I have to ethernet into it. This is only a problem for the Macbook;  iPhone and PC can both see the router's set-up page via wireless whereas the macbook just says "contacting.....".  I don't know if these two problems are related, but I know that in the past I *have* been able to connect macbook wirelessly.
I've got a macbook pro 13 inch - I bought it in about May this year.
    2.7 GHz processor - Core i7
    8GB memory
    1333 MHz DDR3
    OS 10.6.8
All software up to date - including router's firmware.
    S/N 25 to 35 dB
Thanks in advance for any help.

Right, few more R&D's now and it gets even crazier...
I installed Ubuntu and it has no problem detecting Wifi on My Mac.
The craziest thing though is, when i hold the OPTION key while the system boots, we know that we can connect to Wifi from there, and indeed I was able to do that!!
And, once I select MacintoshHD, it boots but we are back to square one, no wifi detected yet again. If Wifi gets detected though, I'm getting this "Connection Timeout" errors.
Well, I guess I have to just accept that 10.8.4 doesn't just work with the Linksys router!!

Just out of curiosity: what internet provider do you have? I'm just asking since I had similar issues after switching from AT&T DSL to AT&T U-verse. Sometimes pages took a very long time to load, or just a part or image of the page. Sometimes I would get a page not found error or something like this and only refreshing the page several times would retrieve and display the actual page.
Here's what I did: I went into my iMac's network preferences and switched the DNS server IP with one from OpenDNS.com, such as 208.67.222.222.
Since then I haven't had these issues anymore. Don't ask me why though; but I would be curious to hear whether this may fix your issue as well!

  • Problem with ONE SINGLE site with WRT610N

    Hello,
First, sorry for my very poor English
    I have a Linksys WRT610N with firmware  1.00.03 B15 (latest I think)
Last three days I have trouble connecting to a single website. This site is www.bdgest.com
I can access all other sites I want, but that one is very difficult to access, very slow with timeouts and error 404 messages.
When I connect to my modem with a cable, everything is OK. If I connect with a cable or wifi to the Linksys router, the access is weak. The problem is not my PC because I have the same problem with my I-Pod touch.
I don't made any change to the Linksys configuration.
    Can somebody help me ?

I found another site that goes weak. www.enviedeseduire.fr

  • [solved]Problem with mp3 files on WRT610N (NAS)

I recently installed a usb-HD to my wireless router LINKSYS WRT610N Firmware Version: 1.00.03 B15. Then i wanted to change names and also delete some mp3-files. But any mount[.cifs] would not give me write access to those files. I googled a lot and found many issues (even on the linksys forum) on theis topic.
But the reason is that the linksys router will not give write access to any mp3 (and posibly other music) files. Any other type (txt, doc, exe ...) I can create, modify and delete. I see no obvious reason why this is so, but this could be a problem with other NAS's as well. It have really confused me for quite some time misbelieving it was an issue with archlinux as some other posts suggest, but it is not.
Linksys is not helpful. So for me the solution is to connect the usb-HD to my linuxbox and make the nescesary changes here. This is not an elegant solution but at least now I know who to blame.

Thank you for posting your solution; this may be very helpful for other users experiencing the same problem.

  • Problems w/ WRT610N?

I have had a WRT54G wireless router for a couple of years now and haven't had any problems with it until recently.  Devices are starting to drop off my network in the middle of use.  Not a big deal...I figure it's due to the size of my house (over 5000 sq ft) and the number of devices connected to it (9).  Today I decided to replace it with a WRT610N wireless router.  After getting it setup and secure, I went to change the network settings on all my devices.  None of the devices recognized the new router.  I had to refresh the available networks 4-5 times on each device before it would find it.  Even after finding the network, I could not get any of the devices to actually connect to it.  When I got to my PS3, I think I might have figured out why.  My "old" router had a 97% signal strength on my PS3.  My "new" router only has a 45% signal strength.  It was placed in the exact same spot as the old one.  Why would a Dual-Band N router have less than half the strength of my old G router?  I have hooked the 54G back up for now.  Any thoughts before I take it back and get my $200 back?

These might be due the wireless settings set on your Router to its Default and due to some kind of interference you might be receiving low signal strength on your wireless computer or PS3.
So i think you need to change the Wireless Settings on your Router. Login to the Routers GUI and click on the Wireless tab and below select "Manual" and under 2.4GHz wireless settings Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings...
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...and check the signal strength on your Computers and on your PS3.

  • WRT610N Fix to my problems

I am having no problems with my router.  The only problem I was having was speed deterioration.  After about a week the speed would slow down so I would reboot but then a week later the speed would start to slow down again.  So how I fixed it was under Administration I disabled Upnp and Home Network Defender, saved and rebooted now my speeds are consistent 25Megs down and 4Megs up.
As far as my wirelesses settings go...I have both basic profiles setup exactly.  Advanced settings are pretty much default.  I have IP Isolation disabled and Frame bursts enabled.  2.4GHz and 5GHz are setup exactly the same. I am getting 300Mgs wireless all day long.  I use
My router firmware is Ver. 2.00.05.   I have a cable modem (SB6120.)   My laptop is a Lenovo w500.
     http://www.speedtest.net/result/914683135.png

I am having the same problem but mine affects my wire connection as well. It will slow down form 20 Mbps to around 1Mbps over a 45 hour period, the only thing I see that helped was to power cycle the router then it comes back up to 20. It has something to do with how the WRT610N does the internet routing. I used to have it hooked up to a firewall that took care of the DHCP and i had NO slow down issues now that I am using it by itself I see this issue, it has to be a firmware thing.

  • WRT610N v2 peer to peer problem

I just bought a router because my other old one had this problem with peer to peer transfer so I call linksys and they said they can't do anything  so i read guides for port forwarding and for about a year i been trying to get the router to work with peer to peer transfer like the downloader for world of warcraft and bitorrents and it wouldn't work so i bought a new router the WRT610N v2 one and i have the same problem i tried the same things on the new router and nothing i hope you guys can help because this is really annoying thanks

It is not your router that is causing the problem.  It is your ISP that is slowing down your transfers.  If you call them, they will deny it.

I'm having problems setting up my wrt610N router with my PS3. Everything works, pictures, and music are okay, but when I put videos they all say unsuported format. Even Divx videos.

I called linksys customer service and they said that it was their fault and that they will work on it. But they said that it would take some time before the fix it. If later on I know something about it  I'll let everyone know.

I bought a WRT610N v2 (which I'll refer to as the router) with the intention that it would replace the networking duties of the WAG54GS (which I'll call the modem), which would be relegated to just handling the Internet connection. Both are running their latest firmware.
I've gotten this configuration to work, but with one problem: I've lost a lot of flexibility in regard to port forwarding. The problem is that the only way I've managed to get the Internet to work is by having the router on 192.168.0.1, and the modem on 192.168.1.1. If I try and have both on 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x then connecting to the Internet no longer works under any configuration of options I've tried.
What this means is that when I go to setup port forwarding in the modem, I can only forwards to clients on 192.168.1.x, but the router can only forward to 192.168.0.x. The only things I can get to work are situations where port range triggering can be applied, so only when a connection is made on the relevant port to an external IP, and then that external IP also communicates back on that port. As you may guess this doesn't nearly cover all cases.
    Question:
Should it be be possible to have both router and modem on either 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x, which would allow port forwarding to work as expected. That should have in theory been possible with the modem's bridge mode except that it's then impossible to configure the PPPoA settings necessary to connect to my ISP.
Or am I going to have to rethink the network layout (i.e. buy a dedicated ADSL modem and fully retire my WAG54GS?)
    Solved!

Actually in the end what I figured out was that as far as my WRT610N was concerned my WAG54GS was my ISP, and that was all it needed to know about the Internet connection. So I set it to connect to the WAG54GS with a static IP, stuck that IP into the WAG54GS's DMZ, and left the WRT610N to handle port forwarding as all devices that connect will do so through that. (Yes, I've disabled the wireless features of the WAG54GS)
I'm reasonably sure I tried the combination of settings you've suggested (including moving the WAG54GS off the Internet port of the WRT610N, which I would have wanted to avoid anyway as I have four permanently connected devices anyway) and found it still wouldn't work. And I wasn't trying to set both to 192.168.1.1 at any point, my self-obscured point was that changing only the last block of the IP address failed to work for accessing the Internet.
