WRT610N Remote Management Access disabled and yet I could access??!

  Hi,
 I have the WRT610N, latest firmware (.10, early 2009). I noticed something when I accessed my FTP from work.
I used the IP address and the "folder" to see my files in a web browser (like 82.2.2.2/MyftpFolder).
But when I typed the IP only, I could see the router config page, despite the fact that I disabled it in "remote managment access"...
Anyone else have seen the same problem?
My ftp user is "admin" or I gave it all rights and access, by the way!

Hi,
I just had the same happen to me.
I have a WRT54GL and I connect to my Exchange server daily through Outlook Web Access. Today when I came to work I could'nt connect. I tried my domain to see if the default website was down also and to my horror ended up in the router management gui. This have never happened before, I have the router redirecting all port 80 traffic to my web server. And since I had disabled the remote access to the router I never changed the password so the door was wide open. I will contact Linksys about this because as far as I understand it's either a serious bug or I've been hacked.

Hm Thanks!
The "problem" was that I was at work when I noticed that and my router is at home...so when I typed my wan ip (82.2.2.2) I saw the GUI.
Nope I did not try to another computer either inside my LAN at home or from a WAN IP, as I have no more job, and no access elsewhere...
So I can not reproduce what I saw until I get an outside connection! I was just wondering if anyone else encountered the same.

  • Direct Access 2012 -- method for disabling and re-enabling client access ?

    We have a reliably functioning DA 2012 setup (which is great), but I need a way to selectively Disable and later Re-Enable DA for particular clients. We use a security group for the Computer accounts of the clients and this is referenced both by Group Policy
    (to assign the right settings to the DA Clients) and by the DA Server (to grant the access).
    We had hoped that we could simply delete the client Computer account from the security group, but when we tried this the DA server seems to just ignore it, even after a reboot of the DA Server.
    We have looked all through the settings of the DA server to see if there is a "disconnect client" option, but can't find anything (which truly amazes me!).
    I have seen one blog post from Richard Hicks which recommends running some PowerShell commands (http://directaccess.richardhicks.com/2013/06/11/disconnecting-directaccess-clients-on-windows-server-2012)
    but after testing these it seems clear that this really only helps me in a scenario where (A) the client is offsite; and (B) I first Disable the Computer account in AD and then replicate AD.
    Wondering what my options are? What do I do when we want to Disable DA for a particular client and then turn it back on again some weeks later?

    When you remove the computer account from your group, it will stop DirectAccess from working, but only once the DA client machine receives it's next Group Policy refresh. The purpose of the group is to get those DirectAccess connectivity settings applied
    from the DA GPO. So if you remove the account, sometime over the next couple of hours Group Policy will refresh on that laptop, and the DirectAccess settings will be removed. If you do this, then later down the road when you want to turn DirectAccess back
    on, you'll need to get that laptop either back into the office or connected via some kind of VPN, because when you add the computer account back to the group, the client machine will have to receive the GPO settings all over again.
    I have been installing DirectAccess for years in tons of places, and I don't think I have ever heard of the business requirement to remove and re-add computers to DA like you are describing - do you mind sharing your reasoning behind this? (I'm just truly
    curious, I'm always interested in finding new ways that companies are using DA)
    The quickest way to disconnect a client machine from DirectAccess is to disable the computer account in AD. You could then re-enable the computer account later and DA would start working again, but of course if you leave a computer account disabled in Active
    Directory for a long period of time, it could cause other kinds of sync problems outside the scope of DA.
    DirectAccess, if designed properly, turns itself off whenever the computer is connected to the corp network, whether physically onsite or connected via another form of VPN. Given this behavior, I'm not sure why you would want to be able to disable DA for
    a while and then turn it back on again later...?

  • My iPod Touch 4G is no longer accessing my router, yet it can access other routers.

    I awoke this morning to find my iPod touch was not connected to the internet, "No big deal" I thought, and went to go connect in the settings. When I went to the settings I clicked on my router and typed in my password correctly, and I waited for it to connect. And waited. And waited. No dice. I turned my iPod on and off again, hoping it would fix it. It didn't. I just went to school without a thought about it. It connected at my school and got full internet access, so I figured it just fixed itself, but when I went home it STILL wasn't working. My laptop and everything else can connect EXCEPT my ipod.
    Any help with this?
    Also I am running on a belkin router and I use windows 7 if that helps with anything.

    I cannot reset the iPod itself as the home button is broken and I use the assistive touch on-screen button, which won't let me reset it.
    I didn't even notice the reset thing there :O
    I'll try this out and see if it works
    It didn't.
    I'll try resetting my router.

    Hi... it seems that your Wireless adapter on does get a IP address or DNS no after reboot. Try assigning a Static IP address and DNS on the Wireless Adapter. Also try to update the drivers for that wireless adapter.

  • Z61M - Fingerprint reader disabled and now I cannot access windows

    My fingerprint reader had been causing issues, so I went into the Thinkpad menu and under "manage security options" , clicked on the fingerprint icon and then preceeded to delete what I thought was the fingerprint option/software. I mistakenly thought I would be able to use the password to access windows, however, I'm now unable to get past the CSS User ID window.  I can only access Thinkvantage by pressing the blue button when prompted but can't find anything in there to help me. The finger print reader now fails everytime and the Control/Alt/Del button only brings up the CSS User ID and when I hit "ok" it states - "User was not enrolled or his data cannot be opened". When I click options on the CSS ID window and then click "I am not enrolled and want to use my windows password", it states "unable to bypass logon because the user is enrolled" - which contradicts the first message????
    I'm really confused and the Lenovo help desk offered no assistance except to "restore to factory settings" but that means I'll lose everything - surely there is an easier solution to getting access to my laptop without a complete reset.

    I've managed to work this out myself by going into BIOS and disabling the Security chip which allowed me then to use the password to get access. From there I have now disabled the finger print reader correctly. Hopefully this helps someone else down the track!! Cheers.

  • HT4061 iphone is disabled and won't allow access with itunes, i can't get it to open up so i can restore it.  Help please

    can someone please help me. my grandson accidently locked his iphone. i have try to reconnect it with itunes in order to restore it. But it won't do anything except have screen showing ipphone disable connect to itunes when i do itunes says please allow access to iphone. what do i need to do it when i try to open it shows emergencey calls only nothing else will open up. please help me reset his iphone please.

    You have to put the phone into recovery mode before you can restore it. First, turn the phone off. Second, while holding down the home button, connect the phone to the computer, and keep holding down the home button until you see the iTunes logo on the face of the phone (this is recovery mode). Next you should see a message on iTunes on your computer say something like "in order to use this phone you have to restore it from recovery mode.." This will allow you to access your phone! Hope this helps.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
  • My macbook is 5 yrs old recently my iphoto has begun to malfunction. I am in remote n/w vietnam and have no card access online at the moment... but need to download my photos ... is there something I can do to refresh my 9.4.3 version ?
    i am in remote n/w vietnam .... my 5 yr old macbook 9.4.3 version of iphoto is malfunctioning ... it allows my to download photos from my camera ...... but then it freezes and I have to hit "force quit" even though it does not signal "not responding".  As a consequence .... I cannot do anything with my photos .... I gather from the dead ends I have run into ... all my time relate rights have expired ... so can anyone suggest how the problem can be overcome short of smashing the thing and buying a new one when next I get to civilization?
    Thanks mate ...
    yes I have an upgraded Iphoto 11 from 9.4.3 ........ unfortunately .... no it didn't solve the problem.  Of course my illiteracy is no help ..... but I did as you suggested and nothing changed at all.  When I highlight a photo I am unable to minimize it and despite changing folders (ie:photos to events) all that happens is that the events folder opens behind the opened photo.  The only solution is to go to "force quit" even though there is no sign to say "iphoto is not responding". and start again ..... very frustrating.  Appreciate any suggestion you have ...
  • When I use Firefox to access jobs on local hospital website not all jobs displayed. Used IE and accessed all posted jobs. Could access all posted jobs with Firefox before hospital changed format. Could this be setting on my computer/Firefox?
    I've been using Firefox for more than a year and prefer it to Internet Explorer. I'm unaware of any websites or information on a website that I've been unable to access with Firefox before this.
    My question contains all the details. I don't know anything about the hospital's systems or website except that they used to have jobs listed under categories and now have a grid format. There are many more jobs posted and accessible through IE than Firefox.
    Thanks for suggestion. I cleared everything, closed Firefox, rebooted and checked the website again with Firefox and IE. Results same as before. (I clear history, cache, etc. pretty regularly.) From what I can see the website looks the same with both browsers, except for difference in job postings. When I called hospital and asked about it, the HR person I spoke with seemed surprised that I had a problem. Local computer columnist is a big advocate for Firefox, but I've no idea how many people in local area use it, i.e. would see the problem and call to ask about it. For whatever it's worth, the program the hospital uses is from SPECTRUM Human Resource Systems Corporation.
  • WRV200 can be administered wireless in spite of Local Remote Access DISABLED.
    I have a WRV200 with Local Remote Access disabled (HTTPS= Disable and Allow Wireless Web Access= Disable).
    When I go and connect wireless to the router, I still can access the configuration in wireless mode.
    What do I need to do such as to not allow the router to be administered wireless.
    Message Edited by RQ on 05-17-2008 02:49 PM
    The main thing to do is to stop using "admin" for your router password.  Instead,  put a strong password on the router, then don't tell anyone the password.   Then, no one will be able to access the router's setup pages except you.
    By strong password, I mean a password with 15 or more random characters, including capital letters, small letters, and digits.
    Write down your password and lock it in a file cabinet.  After the router has been setup, you will only need the password a few times a year.
