WRT610N Supported Formats for Shared Drives

Hi, I just got the WRT610N. I have an external drive that has two partitions. One for PC (FAT32) and one for MAC (MAC OS Extended - Journal). In the Linksys Storage->Disk Section of the Administration GUI, the PC partition shows up. However, the MAC partition does not show up. Is this an error? What formats are supported? What formats are not supported? Is there any intention from Linksys/Cisco to support the MAC OS Extended format? Thank you.

And also try formatting the HDD thru the Routers interface.

Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

    haben
From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30)  or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
    a constant frame rate?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Why is Microsoft Publisher not a supported format for creating pdfs?

I am a newsletter editor and I have been creating pdfs from Publisher for years. However, today when I went to my Adobe Acrobat X to create a pdf from a MS Publisher file, I discovered that MS Publisher is not on the Files of type list of supported formats. Luckily, there is a toolbar tab in MS Publisher to convert the file to an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file. Why can I get there from MS Publisher and not from Adobe Acrobat X?
Also, I like to use different fonts in my newsletter, but the conversion process baulks. Is there a list of no-no fonts for conversion?

The requisite programming / coding to assure PDFMaker can function with the MS Office applications is non-trivial.
Only MS Word has the "full boat". Historically it was MS that asked Adobe to come up with what is now called "PDFMaker".
Specifically the request was for MS Word. An overwhelming number of MS clients (enterprise in particular) wanted an easier way to create not only PDF but better, interactive PDF.
The "success" was announced in a major MS hosted "conclave" back in the day.
(a good history research project for those who are skeptical)
Some "outlying" MS applications have never been PDFMaker friendly. MS Publisher and MS Access are two of the more notables.
As Adobe provides a page layout program of its own (InDesign - and, yes Publisher too is a "page layout" application) I've always found it odd that Adobe's Acrobat team expended resources on MS Publisher.
I've had MS Publisher with every version of Office I've had. While I do not use it "professionally" (FrameMaker please) I use it enough to know it does not support PDFMaker functionality very well.
As PDF is an ISO Standard and Microsoft (as well as Adobe) are active participants on the U.S. Committee for PDF-Reference (ISO 32000) the question is better posed to Microsoft's MS Publisher management.
The questions you need to ask of the MS Publisher development team are:
"Why are you not providing acceptable support for output of well-formed, ISO 32000 compliant PDF (which by the way would include PDF/UA-1 compliance ablity)?
The MS Word team is doing it.
Adobe's InDesign team is doing it.
So, what is the problem with the MS Publisher team?
In short the issue rests with the business decisions made by the MS Publisher team's management.
Again, PDF is an ISO STANDARD not something held captive by Adobe.
    Be well...

  • My ole' Premiere program...trying to convert created video into supported format for youtube...

I have the Adobe Premiere 3.0 program...i know, i know...pretty ancient. But hey, it works for the time being...lo. My problem is, i keep creating videos from this program, and am unable to convert it into the format supported by Youtube...HEEELLLPPP!!! The format i am saving it in is, [.prel]. the formats acceptable are; MPE4 format [Divx, Xvid, or SQV3 instead of h. 264] at 640x480 resolution with MP3audio [64k momo]
After reading those stereo instructions, my question is....hoe do I convert an already designed video to fit these specs?
Thanks in advance for your assistance, and I love you all.

    Thanks Hunt, hun.
Been trying to figure this out for some time now. I am not that knowledgeable in the formats for videos being uploaded to different sites, but i am pretty good at creating videos. I am saving them in the format [.prel], and have no iea as to how to convert the format from - .prel, to {any other format}. I am looking on the program, and see no spot for conversion. i also have a program called prism video converter, which was unable to convert the format as wel, due to the fact that they dont support beginning formats of -.prel, as well. So i am within a rock a very very hard place right now. Is there a different program which i could install, which would allow me to convert the premiere videos i have created into another format? i recently downloaded the trial version of premiere pro. I hope this program allows me to take the saved project, and convert it into a usable format. Thanks again for all your assistance hun. Really appreesh it.

  • Which format for hard drives?

I'm working with RED footage on set and at home.  Mac on set and Windows 7 with Adobe CS5 at home.
We'll have 2TB external drives (eSATA/USB) that we will need to be able to both read and write to using both Mac and PC.  My questionS are about how/what to format the drives.  FAT32, NTFS, or HFS+ ?
    1.  What solution would you propose?
    2.  There's no problem with the 2GB file size limit for FAT32 because RED solved that problem.
    a) Is FAT32 unstable/dangerous?
    b) What about the 32GB partition size limit I've read about?
    c) If you use a special disk formatting program to get around that 32GB limit, does it cause problems or slow down read/write performance?
    3.  If I use MacDrive or Macfuse software so that I can use NTFS with Mac or HFS+ with PC, will the software slow down read/write performance?

    Thanks, Harm.
I had read in several places (maybe quite old forum threads) about FAT32 not being able to make partitions larger than 32GB.
Is that incorrect?  Can I simply format any 2TB drive as FAT32 and it will work smoothly and efficiently with both Mac and PC?
I'd also read that FAT32 was "unstable".  Is that not the case?

  • Hard drive format for sharing

I've trying to set up a Mac and PC network using an Airport Extreme Base Station. What hard drive format is supported by both Windows and Mac OS? I'm switching over from a PCs so most my extermal hard drives are NTFS, but it seems that Airport Extreme isn't able to share this format over the network.

I've found that many people have similar questions, but I still haven't seen the direct answer.
In particular, I want to know which format is easiest for the Airport Extreme to share over a network, which both PCs and Macs will have access.
I would like to share my iTunes library over the network, as well as DIVX films, plus I will have InDesign files that I need to work on both on the PC (running Windows 7) and Macs.

  • The best hard drive format for sharing XP and Mac

Hi, I just bought a external Hard drive and I would like to format it, but I don't know which format to use since I'm going to sharing the hard drive with XP(work) and my iMac(personal). I don want share using USB not network. thanks

    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu one. Set the format type to MS-DOS. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to MBR then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
The drive should be usable on both a PC and a Mac.

  • DVD Supported Formats for T61p (6459)

What DVD formats are compatible with the T61p (6459)?
    Thank you,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
Are you asking what media is readable/writeable in a T61 DVD drive, or what DVD drives are compatible?
There were a couple of drive options for the T61, near as I can tell, but the full-on DVD drive was a 41N5643.  Here's the spec page for it: ThinkPad DVD Ultrabay Slim Burner - Overview
I didn't find your model 6459 in the old tabook, but all the other models using a DVD read/write drive seemed to use the 41N5643.
Maybe that helps, if I've understood your question.
[edit] Mis-read your model #, sorry.  Another look at that old tabook shows the same drive for the T61p.  FYI that old book is over here: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ltwbook.pdf

  • I have Home Movies from iMovie to back-up. What format for external drive?

    Hello,
I have Home Movies imported into iMovie 11 on my iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.
I am saving the cpmleted movie projects onto an external hard disc. A Seagate 1TB.
I have had problems with file sizes as I keep getting the message that a movie project is too large for the medium. It seems that I can't store anything in HD.
I've looked at the disc and it's formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32)
Am I right that this imposes a maximum file size that I can save?
If so I have looked at the Disc Utility on my iMac and I can see that I can reformat the external drive.
    I have a choice of -
    Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, journaled)
MS-DOS(FAT)       is this the same as MS-DOS (FAT32) it already is formatted as?
    ExFAT
    Windows NT Filesystem (Tuxera NTFS)
I'm guessing I should choose the MAC OS Extended (jounaled) or the Mac OS Extended (Case- sensitive, journaled)?
The Seagate Hard Drive is model SRDOSPO
I don't understand the differences between the above formats and would like help on chosing the right one for my Home Movies.
I also have an Apple TV3 which I use to watch the movies on my tv.
Are the home movies stored both in the iTunes file on my iMac, so I can see them via AppleTV, and the external hard drive.
If so can I just use the external hard drive without having these large files filling my iMac disc?
    Hope that all makes sense.

The difference between case sensitive and non-case sensitive is self-explanatory. Non-case sensitive iis easier to work with as it can avoid confusion with files names.
The others are weird and wonderful/partly useless Microsoft formats only of interest to Windows users, or those who want to have both Apple OS and Windows on the same computer. Not all of them can be read by a Mac at all, some of them have inconvenient file size limitations.

  • What presets and format for sharing is best to use on HD project?

I have been working on a Premiere Elements project for the past several weeks, and it is my first, obviously.  I have spent many hours on the phone with Adobe techs and every one has said something completely different and contrary to what i had been told before.
    Several issues i have.
    1.  No one seems to say the same as to what preset is best.  I have taken the pictures from files from Photoshop from my DSLR camera, so i used the preset of DSLR [email protected] which i assumed was the appropriate to get HD quality of photographs of a special vacation.  There have been suggestions that i use a HDV preset instead.  What would be the right preset?
    2.   I completed the project, ending up with 45GB and planned to burn it to a blu ray disc.  As soon as i put in a disc and filled out the options, i went for a H.264 1920x108iNTS Dolby, and it said there was no media, in the share panel for burning the blu ray.
    3.  Then i tried to burn it to a windows folder instead, and used MPEG2 102-x1080i30 because i want to maintain as much HD quality to the photos as i can.
And 5% into the download, a pop-up appeared saying i was running extremely low in memory, and to save and proceed cautiously.  If i used AVI i assumed that would be standard videos.  I have a HP p6320 Phenom II x 4 820 Processor 2.8 GH, with 8 GB of RAM.  I have a TB of hard disk space and use Windows 7.
so now i have what i think is a finished project, and don't know how to get it the blu ray or a way that i could eventually get it to a blu ray.  So near yet so far!!!!
    4. The time to upload the project after rebooting etc. is taking longer and longer, now in the vicinity of 30-40 minutes.  What is causing this problem?
And i see 'Adobe Premier Elements 9 is not responding' more and more often, and the time with the swirling green circle  with 'wait for the program to respond' is becoming the regular occurrence rather than the odd happening.
What am i doing or what is going wrong?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Hopefully i have given enough information for some lights to go off?  Obviously i am a super novice, but i am getting very frustrated, with a project that started off being so much fun.  I would like to draw it to a conclusion!
    Ron

You do not select what kind of file you output when you tell PreEl to write a DVD or BluRay folder on hard drive for later burning to disc... the DVD or BluRay format is part of the specification
Put a Hollywood DVD or BluRay in your computer drive (stop autoplay when it starts, you don't want to play the movie) and then use Windows Explorer to go LOOK at what is on the disc
When you tell PreEl to write your DVD or BluRay folder to your hard drive, you will have the same file structure and file types as a Hollywood disc
You then use Imgburn to write that entire file folder to disc

  • URI format for shared local files

Firefox uses this format to access shared files on a local network... file://///host/path eg file://///computername/sharename/MyDocs/filename.txt.
This format is different from the standard form file://host/path that is used on other browsers eg Windows, Chrome.
This means that Firefox does not give me access to shared files when I have coded the standard format URI into my local HTML documents. Why is Firefox different or non-standard.

hello seebee, apparently file://///host/path is the standard form for a unc path:
"That's five slashes - two for the protocol, one to indicate the root of the file system, then two more to indicate the start of the server name."

  • Recommended format for USB drive/stick ?

My usual project delivery is DVD or online but I've got a client who is asking to put his (8min) film onto a USB stick.  I've never done this so I would be very grateful for any advice.
What format/settings should I export my standard resolution PAL project out to?
I'm assuming that the USB speed bottle-neck means only a low quality version could play directly from the drive ?
What's the normal procedure? Instruct a viewer to drag a file to their desktop and then play? or keep file playable from drive?
Is it resonable to keep the audio CD quality and then make the compromises on video quality as that is where the intense data damands are?
Or is there something else I should consider?  Any advice would be great as this is a very spikey client!
    Cheers
    I'm running Studio 3 so that's FCP 7.0 and compressor 3.5.

Excellent. I've just tried that out and the video is playing smoothly straight from the USB stick. Thanks PJ.
A couple of questions. When it opened in compressor the FCP sequence was no longer 16x9 so I saved the template as a custom version and used the 'Geometry / Padding' controls to select the 16x9 setting.  That added 21px above and below which seemed to fix the problem.  Is that the right thing to do? or is there a better solution?
And also, within the Geometry options the frame size controls were greyed out so the mpeg was locked at 352 x 288 px.  This is not looking too shabby even at full screen, but obviously it would be good to be able to be flexible and make it a bit larger.  Any idea why I can't access these controls?
    Thanks again

  • Supported formats for capturing audio

I need to capture audio in PCM format.
According to the JDE 4.6.0 Multimedia Guide:

  • Best video format for sharing with windows users

I've tried many ways to share videos with different clients, they mostly have windows computers (and windows media player I guess). I tried .mov (H.264) and mp4 (also H.264) from final cut pro X, but also from Compressor. I also did some test exporting Apple ProRes and then converting them with Mpeg streamclip, or even with Adobe Media encoder. Same problem, windows does not see these videos. I finally had to use a mov to wmv converter, but the final quality is really bad. Or upload the videos to vimeo, and then share the link (but I haven´t got a plus account, so I guess what I´m doing is not allowed, and i have only 500 mb per week). I believe that windows media player can be updated to open these phootage, but I cannot explain that to my clients.
Which would be the most compatible video format to share with clients?
Which paramaters should I take care of while exporting them?
    Thanks!
    Pablo

You should be able to export as H.264... I'm going to guess that your problem might not be the video -- it might be the audio. The audio track should be converted to AAC. Try exporting H.264 directly from FCPX. From Share > Export File (you might need to add that destination) > Settings > Video Codec > H.264 (audio should automatically change to AAC.)  If you export as ProRes and transcode from another app, they might not be converting the audio for compatibility (LinearPCM/AIFF is not an "expected" audio format with h264/mp4, or even WMV, etc.)

  • Format for external drive

I need to be able to read my external drive in both windows and OS X. What is the proper format? The only choices are 4 different Mac OS formats, MS-DOS and Unix. Thanks.

    Hi,
I didn't know that you are talking about these disc sizes.
Personally I didn't had the opportunity to get one of these 1TB drives into my hands (only 500GB drives).
There is another guy in the MacBook Pro Forum with an equal problem with his Maxtor 1TB drive.
So I am starting some guessings:
There is a possibility that FAT32 has a size limit that is below this 1TB, which may come in play.
Also, since the 1TB drives are made of two drives internally , there may be the possibility that the internal organization of these two drives as a sort of RAID or JBOD is preventing the use of FAT32.
Here is a link to command line tool running in Windows, that can format FAT32 on partitions bigger than 32GB, may be helpful: http://www.heise.de/software/default.shtml?prg=40825&osg=1&kat=203&liste=alle&sr t=n
Other than that I am at loss of ideas.
    Sorry
    Stefan
