WRT610N v1 and Bittorrent

I have a WRT610N wireless router. Wan port is connected to ADSL modem and main PC connected to Ethernet LAN port. Everythings works fine but when I running uTorrent on main PC - large file transferring via wifi constantly breaking down. Just one active torrent affects this sutiation and when I have 7-8 active torrents - transferring of large file nearly immediately breaks. Same situation I see when copying files to shared USB disk (via LAN) - no errors while torrents down and breaks when torrents is up. I have tried official firmware and DD-WRT firmware - same results. Please help me to solve this problem.

You have a version 1 router, and in your post you have mentioned you have uploaded version 2 firmware on your Router (Now the firmware is 2.00.00 B05 (official FW_WRT610N_2.00.00.05_20090710_code.bin)?
First thing which you can try is Login to the setup page of your Router and below change the MTU size to 1300 and click on Save Settings, then again click on the Wireless tab and below click on the sub tab "Advance Wireless Settings" and below  Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Once you are done with this settings, now you can check the speed on your computer and check if you are facing the same problem while downloading the files from Torrent.

  • WRT610N router and a WET610N wireless bridge problems

I purchased a WRT610N router and a WET610N wireless bridge and have had a major hard time to get them to work together.  The router setup went fine.  Internet works perfectly on several machines and devices.  The bridge on the other hand has been a big issue.  I keep getting "Error 105" when the wizard trys to search for the bridge on the network.  This search happens 2 or 3 times during the setup, and it has failed repeatedly at each instance.  Sometimes it lets me go a bit further, but it's never completed.  I called support, and they didn't know much about it, then we got disconnected and the second guy didn't "have the skills to work with that device" and the first guy appearantly didn't update the notes.  I exchanged the bridge, but the second has fared no better.  I'm now thinking it might be the router.  One thing that leads me to that is the connection button never seems to initiate any proceedures on the router.  I can hold that thing down for two minuets and the lights never get going.  Anyone have any experience with these?

You have to make sure that your router is running it's latest firmware...
    Download Firmware 7.27 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
After re-configuring the router you need to configure the Bridge, to configure the Bridge you have to make sure, Wireless Settings on the Bridge and the Router are exactly identical so that they can effectively communicate with each other...Your Bridge should be assigned Static IP Address of 192.168.1.250, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0...Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1(Assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...After setting up your Bridge you should unplug the Router and then the Bridge, wait for a minute and connect the router first, wait for another minute and then connect your Bridge...It should work...

  • Improving Performance between WRT610N (v1) and WET610N (v1)

Any advice on how to improve performance of the connection between these two Wireless N devices?
    WRT610N (v1) and WET610N (v1)
We have a PS3 connected to the WET610N via Ethernet directly, and it connects the PS3 communication wirelessly to the Internet through the WRT610N.  Just wondering if there are some known tweaks that will improve performance between them.  One thing I think is ridiculous is that the WRT610N is showing only 30% signal strength on the WET610N.  That is ridiculous as they are not far from eachother.
    Any input is welcome!

Whats the Distance between your Router and the Bridge? Are you connected to 5GHz wireless network or 2.4GHz wireless network?  Whats the Wireless Settings you have setup on your Router.

  • WRT610N disconnects and does not work with Vista or media center extenders like the DMA2200

Linksys and all other router manufacturers advertise the greatness of the wireless 5ghz band (especially with 802.11n), but I’m beginning to have my doubts.  It is true that the 5Ghz band is hardly being used so you'll have virtually no one to compete with.  However, the 5Ghz distance in no way compares to 2.4Ghz, and as a matter of fact, I find it to be quite terrible.  At approximately 20 feet away, both my Linksys DMA2200 and HP notebook barely get 1 bar using the 5Ghz N band with my WRT610N router.  In comparison, while using my 2.4Ghz WRT54g router, I get 5 full bars at that range, and at least 2 bars from anywhere else in my house.
I have all Linksys equipment in my house as I have been impressed with all of their 2.4Ghz in the past.  However, I’ve recently upgraded everything to dual-band N equipment and found numerous flaws in each of the new devices, plus none of them really even play well together.  My setup is: Linksys 610n router, DMA2200 media center extender, and a WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter for my laptop – all of which are currently using the most up-to-date firmware. Other devices include a WRE54G extender and  Nintendo Wii.
Problem  #1) The LELA software with the new N devices doesn't even recognize that my DMA2200 is a media center extender.  Using LELA, I should be able to select my media extender and allocate more bandwidth for streaming media.  However, since my extender only shows up as an “unknown network device” those options are greyed out.  I tried to manually change the device to a media center, but still no go.  I suppose you can manually allocate bandwidth in the router setup somewhere, but considering these are all Linksys products, it’s absolutely ridiculous that an option specifically incorporated in the LELA software for a Linksys Media Extender does not work!!!
Problem #2) If you are only using one system with the router, the router might actually work as intended.  For most of us though there are going to be at least 2 or more systems connected to the router (wired, wireless, or a combination of the two) such as a PS3, Wii, laptop, PC, media extender, Xbox, etc.  If that’s the case, you’re probably screwed because you WILL experience frequent dropouts… ESPECIALLY if just one those clients is a VISTA machine.   Check the Linksys forums and you will find that this seems to be a problem with all of the new Linksys routers (610N, 310N, and 110).
Here is a Microsoft article that explains the issue
       http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233/en-us
Problem #3) Because of  problem #2 I will never be able to get rid of the dropouts since my network is using one of Linksys’s media center extenders.  The DMA2200 is essentially a VISTA PC to some extent and accepts DHCP requests the same as a VISTA PC.  Since it is not really a PC though, there is no registry modification that can be done to alleviate the VISTA problem (not that the registry mod really works anyways).  So as long as I try to use my DMA2200 wirelessly with my WRT610N router, the frequent dropouts will occur and there’s nothing I can do about it.  This is REALLY TERRIBLE since the DMA2200 is specifically designed to be used with the WRT610N router in order to take advantage of the 5Ghz band and wireless N transfer rates.  You absolutely need 5Ghz wireless N to efficiently stream HDTV WIRELESSLY, but if you lose your connection every 10 minutes, it is impossible to watch any type of streaming media.
Problem #4) As mentioned already, when the “N” 5Ghz range is working on the WRT510N router, the distance sucks compared to standard 2.4Ghz G, N or mixed mode networks.  You can try to make it better by strictly using N products, disabling the 2.4ghz band all-to-gether, and using the wider 40mhz frequency, but it doesn’t really help.  The higher 5Ghz band is a more concentrated signal and therefore simply does not reach as far as the lower 2.4ghz band.  I wonder why all of these new products state that the 5Ghz range will increase your distance, when in fact it actually makes it worse?
So… basically, this router does nothing that it claims too and is basically rendered useless on any network with a VISTA machine.  This has not been addressed by any Linksys firmware updates or VISTA software updates so there is no reason to even consider using this router if you you’re using VISTA or some type of VISTA Media Center Extender such as the Linksys DMA2200.
Although, I’ve always sworn by Linksys in the past, the amount of wasted time, frustration, and horrible support has really changed my view about them.  I’ve reverted back to my old trustworthy WRT54g router and had to run cable through my house so that I wouldn’t have to box my DMA2200 extender up and let it collect dust in the attic.  It’s really disappointing that I spent all this money to buy this equipment specifically because they’re supposed to work together, but in fact they don’t.  Plus what’s the point of having top notch wireless equipment if you have to run cables in order for them to work?

I have fixed all the IP adresses to avoid the DHCP problem but I still have problems.
    I have sereval scenarioes:
    1. MC < 1Gb wire > WRT610N < 5.0n WIFI > MX
I can see HDTV on this one but it disconnects
    2. MC < 1Gb wire > WRT610N < 2.4b/g WIFI > MX
    No HDTV and disconnections
    3. MC < 2.4b/g WIFI > WRT610N < 2.4b/g WIFI > MX
No HDTV but no disconnections - but very slow and streaming like youtube
    4. MC < 100Mb wire > WRT610N < 2.4b/g WIFI > MX
No HDTV but nice picture - testing for disconnections right now - 30+ min.
    Result:
This test was very good. Stabil streaming, no disconnects for an hour. Won't support HDTV but the rest seem to work fine.
    5. MC < 100Mb wire > WRT610N < 5.0n WIFI > MX
Not tested yet - looking forward to this - might bring me HDTV.
    Result:
This gives HDTV but there is a problem with stability on the streaming but very difficult to see on the picture. Testing for disconnects - now tested for 30 min. - no disconnects.
    This looks really promissing.
I am pretty sure that the WRT610N have a problem in the switching part of the router specially when it has to switch from 1G to WIFI. I bought the WRT610N to get HDTV on WIFI and Cisco markets the DMA and WRT610N as a perfect match. But it definately have problems - i still do not understand their silence about this.
I will come back with the last results when I have them
    /John

  • WRV200 and Bittorrent

I have a WRV200 router and it works fine
I also use Bittorrent and i need to forward the ports .
On the internet i found some solutions which doesn't work for me
    The download is very slow
    Please help

If you’re getting a slow download speed with bittorrent, try check if this is just due to the seeds. Maybe you don’t have enough active seeds to download faster the file. Try to check your speed in www.speedtest.net or other speed testing sited and see if you are getting your expected bandwidth speed.

  • Connecting WRT610N 5ghz and Linksys WNDA3100

This solution worked like a champ for me!  I hope this helps many more community members avoid the MANY hours figuring this out:
Problem Description:  WNDA3100 (Linksys dual-band USB NIC) not able to connect to 5ghz on WRT610N.  USB NIC attaches successfully to 2.4ghz on same WRT610N.
Resolution Summary: Tech support recommended the following settings:
    5ghz Wireless Settings (Basic Settings)
    Network Mode: Mixed
Network Name (SSID): Any name you want
    Radio Band: Standard - 20MHz
    Wide Channel: n/a
    Standard Channel: 161 - 5.805GHz
    SSID Broadcast: Enabled
    2.4ghz Wireless Settings (Basic Settings)
    Network Mode: Mixed
Network Name (SSID): Any name you want
    Radio Band: Standard - 20MHz
    Wide Channel: n/a
    Standard Channel: 11 - 2.462GHZ
    SSID Broadcast: Enabled
*Note: I disabled security for both bands (2.4+5) to troubleshoot.

make sure the SSID for the 5ghz network is named differently than the SSID for your 2.4ghz network.
manually set the 5ghz network to use the Wide 40MHz radio band and set the wide channel to 38 and the standard channel to 36; or wide ch to 46 and standard ch to 44.
if you're using encryption, set wireless security to use WPA2-Personal and set encryption to "AES", not "WPA-TKIP or WPA2-AES".
    report back with your results.

  • Am I getting Gigabit transfer between WRT610N router and NMH410 Media Hub?

Shouldn't the ethernet port LED be flashing blue (gigabit connection) between these 2 connected devices? It's flashing green which, according to the router manual, suggests a 10/100 port. I'm sure I'm missing something!

If you are refering to the Manual of WRT610N about the Light status, You need to reverse the light status. As per the Linksys manual The LED lights up Green when it is connected to 10/100 port and Blue when it is connected to a gigabit port. But in real terms which you need to revers this, Green light for Gigabit and Blue light for 10/100 port.

  • WRT610N - Bugs and new firmware

I installed WRT610N under XP (original firmware, no updating), runs well: Internet OK. Storage on 500 Mb Western Digital HD OK, FTP OK, WiFi OK, Media Center OK with PS3 (Twonky work well), DDNS is OK.
Considering that: FTP a bit sluggish, FTP autentication not possible (should be sorted out by firmware B10 ?!) , People says that with "B10" it is no longer impossible to get to Twonky through port 9000.
I ask:  anybody can suggest me if it is worthy to upgrade my Firmware with the latest "B15" dated 28th of Luglio ? Anybody knows anything ?
Moreover: other owners please keep in touch for info sharing, it seems the only way to get knowledge on it.
    Hugs

The die is cast. I have got it. When I bought it the manufacturer has not told me that USB support is crap. In fact it works, but with some bugs.Considering LinkSys Cisco is a mayor Company, I respect them and I count they sort out understandable bugs by updated firmware.
The router is also not cheap, therefore they have an obbligation to the consumers even though the post-sales service is prompt but not qualified (sigh). I forgive them because they have sooner or later to atone for their sins.
I was referring to the forum because the most qualified people who knows where to put hands are the guys like me, and better then me, the one who spend hours to get to the service who has been promised .....(sigh again).
So, I do not accept (respectfully) Your approach.
Anyone who likes to co-operate telling me what about latest July the 28th firmware ?

  • 3 external IP's, one WRT610N, 2 PC's and a NAS

Can it be done with what I have? Here's my situation:
I have a modem (fiber optic) which comes with 3 LAN out's, each of them with a designated fixed global IP (x.x.x.26-28). I have been using one of these (.26) with my WRT610N (Internet port) to connect my laptops etc. Easy enough. Now I recently I got a Synology DS107+ NAS. Of course, if I connect it to one of the WRT610N LAN ports it gets a 192.168.1.x address like my other devices and is reachable from the outside world via x.x.x.26. But, is there a way for me to give it one of the other global unused IP's (ie, x.x.x.27)? Could I connect a second of the modem LAN out's directly to the WRT610N (LAN) and somehow route everything that reaches x.x.x.27 to the NAS while everything that reaches x.x.x.26 gets handled by the router/NAT
Or do I need some extra gadget to do this. (I cant connect the modem directly to the NAS since the modem doesnt support gigabit LAN)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can only connect the modem and the WRT610N using one wire, not two.
When you say that you have three "fixed global IP" addresses, I assume that you mean that you have three Internet addresses.  Is that correct?
If so, then you have two possible solutions for your problem:
    1)  Add a gigabit switch, such as the SD2005 or SD2008, between your modem and the rest of your network.  You should then be able to access each of the 3 fixed Internet addresses by plugging your devices into the switch.  However, you might not want to plug your NAS into the switch, especially if your NAS has limited ability to protect itself from hackers.  Also, you might prefer to keep your NAS attached to your WRT610N LAN.  If so, try solution 2.
    2)  Solution 2 is to leave your NAS connected to the WRT610N LAN, but access it over the Internet via a port.  Most NAS devices can be reached from the Internet by giving your NAS a fixed LAN IP address, then forwarding a port to that fixed address.

  • How to see 5Ghz band using WRT610N and WUSB600N

I've installed the WRT610N router, and am connecting via WUSB600N adapter. I have only installed the driver for the adapter (not Linksys's LELA), and am using WinXP's "Wireless Network Connection" to connect. I've run into problems in the past with LELA causing errors, and I'd rather avoid using it.
The problem is that I cannot see the 5Ghz band. I can only see the 2.4Ghz band. What do I need to do in order to see (and hopefully connect to) the 5Ghz band? (I would hope that my not using LELA would be a non-factor. Theoretically, I should be able to use any brand of "N" adapter to connect with the larger band... Right?)

I have noticed that 5GHz channels on routers are sometimes set automatically far out at channel number 149 and thereabouts. I had a similar problem in that I knew I had a 5GHz band, but I couldn't even see it to try to connect. It appears that the Linksys utility which came with the WUSB600N cannot 'see' past about channel 50.
You may want to try setting the channel manually in the router to something like channel 38. The Linksys utility will definitely be able to 'see' it then, and should offer the ability to connect.

  • My Macbook Pro keeps freezing and crashing!

Hello, I've had my MBP for a year and seven months (as of April 2014). At the beginnings of March 2014, it began freezing, showing these flickering horizontal lines and squares, and then, I had to do a hard boot to get it to work again. Back in March, I wiped the hard disk and reinstalled the OSX (Mavericks). There was no problem for about three days. Then, it started happening again. I took it to an Apple Reseller (as I live in Dominican Republic and we don't have apple stores, etc.) They spent about a day with it. When I picked it up, they said they reinstalled the OSX. I told them that's what I did, but as I'm young, they said it was different when they did it, yada, yada, yada. Through the entire month of March, I took it 4 times, where they claimed nothing really happened when it was with them, so I gave up on taking it to them. I just kept using throught the crashes as I am in school and I need it. I noticed the freezing usually occured when I moved it around (I use it for HS so I obviously need to go from classroom to classroom). I began to be extra careful when moving it and the freezing started ocurring less frequently. Tonight, I booted in Safe Mode and moved it around a lot, without being extremely careful about (so how a normal person carries it). The freezing hasn't happened yet. I'm currently typing this while in Safe Mode. However, I do not know what's the problem because I already reinstalled the OSX, and didn't transfer any Applications or Documents. I seriously don't know what to do anymore.
Can anyone help me with this? Please don't suggest I take it to Apple, because they haven't been helpful at all. I resetted the SMC and the PRAM, and the problem stopped momentarily. Also, the freezing is intermittent, so it can be perfectly okay now, and a mess later. Also, sometimes, 3 beeps can be heard and the laptop just doesn't turn on at all. Both RAM sticks were tested, and both are working perfectly.
Please, please, I AM DESPERATE and I will be forever in debt to anyone who helps me solve this.
PS: If I have to open anything, I can do it if you provide me with clear instructions, and please tell me if it's really complicated as I'm only 15, and I cherish my Macbook too much to do anything too hard myself.
PS(2): It has had problems in the past, so the screen 'cracked from the inside', so that was changed, and the logic board was also replaced, all in warranty, of course.
MBP 9.2, OSX Mavericks, though originally came with Mountain Lion.
Applications installed: Photoshop and Illustrator CS6, Spotify, Skype, VLC and BitTorrent.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE TO EVERYONE!

Three beeps indicate a RAM problem. Is this the original RAM or have you upgraded it? The fact that this seems to happen when you move it sounds like the RAM might not be seated correctly or maybe the contacts are dirty. If you're comfortable doing it, you can remove the RAM modules and clean the contacts with an eraser. Try one module in the machine at a time. If one is bad, that will help you isolate which one.

  • WRT54GS problem with bittorrent

I have a WRT54GS, flashed to firmware v 1.52.8. It's been working fine up until a recent move. I set it up after I moved into my new place and got service connected (Comcast) and that's when I noticed the problem. I have a PC connected via CAT5 through the router and use the wireless access point for my laptop. In the past, my average download speed on torrents with decent seeds have been around 1.5 - 3 MB/s (yes, that's MBps not mbps... I know the difference) Recently however they are topping out at anywhere from 150 KBps to 250 KBps. Uploads are not affected... they seem to be averaging about the same. Additionally, while a torrent is downloading, web browsing/email/etc is not functional: everything times out in spite of QoS settings I have in place on the router to avoid these issues.
Initially I assumed it was my ISP throttling my connection--Comcast has been known to do this in the past, after all--but after testing at Glasnost reported no throttling by my ISP, I tested with the PC hooked directly to my cable modem. Result: sustained download speeds of 2.5 - 3 MB/s over the course of two test downloads (Ubuntu install ISO). During these downloads, I was able to browse to wesites without getting timeout errors like I do when behind the router. This pretty conclusively points to the WRT54GS as the source of my problem, so I'm wondering if anyone else has any suggestions for resolving this other than tossing the router and getting a new one.
EDIT: I should mention that I only torrent on the PC so this is not a wireless issue.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

That seems to have done the trick. IDK what caused it to stop working, but after the factory reset and putting my wireless settings back in again (plus port forwarding for my games and bittorrent) I'm able to stream video from Netflix while downloading a torrent at a reasonable speed and still click on web links and have them load. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Macbook, airport and t mobile hotspot...

Haven't found this one in the forums yet, so here goes: Has anyone used their Macbook w/airport on a T Mobile Hotspot, say a Starbucks or Borders Books? Good/bad experiences, details, issues, security measures, etc.,would be helpful. I'm ditching my home ISP (long story, don't ask) and would be able to walk to my local Starbucks. Just checking out the options, and wanted any insights the mac community could provide. I'm a new mac owner (like being multi-platform). Also, if you've had additional experience using .mac on the T Mobile Hotspot service, that would help too. Just got my full .mac disc today and plan to load it and make a place for myself on the web.
Thanks for being there and helping the community grow...

My MacBook's never had any problems using any WiFi network.
I've stayed in a few different hotels, use it at Starbucks about 3x a week, .. Panera's, at home, at work ... it just works.
Well, at least email and web surfing. Stuff like iChat AV and BitTorrent working depends on how the WiFi network you're on has been setup, but I've never had a problem with the basics!

  • WRT610N causing computer to crash -- repeatedly!

So I received my WRT610N yesterday and set it up. After working for hours to get the thing to connect, it now causes my computer to crash unexpectedly and repeatedly.  I initially thought it was the software doing this but, after removing the software, I tested this by just plugging in the router.  Bam. Computer crash and reboot.  Could it be the signal is just too much for my 5+ year old computer to handle?
I'm pretty sure I'm just going to return the router and give up on the idea of a BluRay I can stream HD video on.
    Any input?
    Thanks,
    Keith

Well i think this might be due to the Older Version of the Drivers for the Wireless Card installed on your Computer. Try to upgrade the drivers for the wireless adapter on your computer and i think this might solve the problem.
