WRT610N V1 USB Drive
I am still not connected to my USB HD.
It is a 1.5TB Seagate USB.
I see nothing in the WRT610 specs that says that it will not handle any size drive.
So the questions are:
(1) is there a specified max for HD size?
(2) it there is, does it go by partition size so that i could partition the drive and see both partitions through the WRT610N V1?
(3) if a drive is "corrupted" by a WRT610 V1 reset, then how do we "uncorrupt" the drive so it will work again?
(4) What are the symptoms of a "corrupted" drive?
(5) where do I get real techinical support?
Currently, I see the drive on my Vista Ultimate machine but if I try to click on the visible folder, Vista Windows Explorer crashes all open Windows Explorer windows.
On my XP Pro machine, I see all the folders but again, I cannot do anything with them.
I solved part of my problem. I connected the Seagate drive to my computer directly with a usb connection. I installed the management software that comes with the drive. Then I changed the Default Sleep State of the drive from 15 mins to never. Why do they set it up at the factory like that I have no idea! So now I have access to my media and I'm able to play it when I log on to the drive. It still bombs in the media server but I think thats a Microsoft rights protection problem.

Windows XP and Windows 7 cannot see my WRT610N USB Drive
I have the WRT610N V2 router with current firmware. I have tried a thumb drive and an IOMEGA 1tb drive. In both cases the router sees the drive, allows me to create partitions, groups, and users but the computers in my home cannot see the drive. I tried the Network wizard and explorer drive map option. I even tried start/run typing wrt610n or \\wrt610n and I get network path cannot be found. I have three computers in the house, one (XP) with Norton 360, one (XP) with SOFOS and one with no AV sw at all (Win7). None of these can see the network path.
What am I missing?
Thanks
DanTo map the drive on your computer click on Start - RUN - type "\\192.168.1.1" and click ok... When prompted for Username and Password type "admin" and click ok... Now you will be able to see the folder which you have shared on your router, right click on it and select "Map network drive" and click on finish.
Now it will map the drive on your computer and you should be able to transfer the file from your computer to the USB drive. -
WRT610N Shared folder area is Blank - USB DRIVE
I have a 1tb drive connected to the USB port of my WRT610N
Firmware Version: 2.00.00 B05
I can create a shared folder for individual folders as well as the entire drive. However the Shared folder area of the Disk tab in the Storage area of the routers interface is blank, just white area.
If I go to a PC on the network and type \\192.168.1.1 or \\WRT610N I see the shares I have created. But clicking on them results in a Network error.... Windows cannot access, path not found.
So I can't connect. I have created a group and user in the administration, made sure PC and router config are both connected to the same workgroup name... WORKGROUP.
Also when navigating into the storage area of the router I get the error ... In a popup labled "Message from Webpage" the error is "Shared Folder location not exist, Please check all shared folders"
I am hioping I am missing something simple. I have logged in under the admin account and the new account I created and same results.
Message Edited by gmark on 12-12-2009 11:52 AMClick Start>>Run/Start search and type "\\192.168.1.1" (Without quotes) and hit enter, and it should prompt you for the Username and Password, in the Username and Password use "admin" all in lower case and click Ok...Now you should be able to see your USB Drive... You need to right click on it and select "Map Network Drive" and check the box Enable and below click on Finish... This will Map the USB Drive on your computer... Once done you will be able to Send and Receive the data from your Computer to the USB Drive...

USB Drive only working on windows
I got a new usb drive the other day, and its only readble and writable on windows. It can even be formatted on windows as well.
when I insert it into my mac it tells me to initialize.
Everytime i try to format it in disk utility i get this error message;
"Disk Erase failed with the error:
Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed."
any solutions? I need this usb drive and don't have the time or the money to buy a new one at this moment in time.oook wrote:
What is the size of the USB HDD...?
Is this a Powered HDD or self powered HDD...?
Please check this link for the compatible USB HDD for WRT610N.
Its a Maxtor OneTouch II, 189GB powered hard drive. Looks like it is not compatible as seen from the list provided in that link.
Seriously? Are those the only disks compatible? That's a pretty small list :-( -
IPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 and Windows 7 x64 USB Driver Issues
Been pulling my hair out with this one for the last week or so and haven't had any luck finding anything on the forums or the web regarding a solution short of a full reinstall of Windows 7 which I am not prepared to do at this time; so hoping someone here can shine some light on this for me
I have a iPhone 5 that is updated to iOS 6.1.4 and a recently built Windows 7 64-bit machine. All of my other USB devices function fine (keyboard, mouse, Xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows, and a Seagate 2TB external USB drive). I've downloaded the most recent version of iTunes, installed successfully and then attempt to plug in my phone to sync. I get the standard Windows *ding* that I've attached a device and 1 of 2 things happens (I haven't been able to determine what causes one reaction to happen versus the other): Windows will successfully install the 'Apple USB Mobile Device Driver' successfully and it will appear under my USB devices in Device Manager. However - iTunes will not recognize the phone and I cannot see it in Windows either. In the 'Devices and Printers' snap-in my iPhone will appear under 'Unspecified Devices' as the 'Apple USB Mobile Device'. The iTunes diagnostics fail to find a connected device so the tests fail. As soon as I unplug the device, the strangest thing happens: Windows will start trying to install a device driver and after a few seconds it will fail stating that the "MTP Device Driver" installation failed because the device was unplugged. iTunes also thrown an error "iTunes cannot connect to this iPhone" throwing error code 0XE8000065 (I've also seen error code 0XE8000085 as well)
After some finagling, I've managed to get Windows to recognize the device under 'Portable Devices' in Device Manager as an "MTP USB Device" using the generic driver. At this point, I've tried updating the driver and manually specifying the Apple USB driver located in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Drivers which updates successfully but then changes the device to "Apple USB Mobile Device" and moves it under the USB Devices in Device Manager; and Windows nor iTunes can see it even still.
I've tried removing iTunes several times and ensuring that all remnants of the installation are gone (registry and folders on the installation drive) and have disconnected all my USB devices short of the keyboard and mouse and still I get the same results. At this point, I'm afraid that a re-install of Windows is going to be the solution; but it's a drastic one (I have a SSD drive where Windows is installed along with all of my games for faster load times/better performance and do not want to have to redownload\reinstall all of them) and I'm not prepared to undertake it at this time, which is why I'm posting here
I've used a utility called USBDeview that sees my phone is connected - so I know from a functional standpoint that my USB ports are good and working. I also know the cable is good too - my daughter's PC (Windows 7 32-bit with NO iTunes) immediately sees the device when I plug it in, installs the drivers, recognizes it as an iPhone and I can then see/browse it in Windows Explorer like I would normally expect. My work PC (Windows 7 64bit, NO iTunes) sees the device just fine as well. I would immensely appreciate anyone that has seen this issue or has any additional solutions I can try.
It's also worth mentioning that I've never used Kapersky antivirus so the UPPERFILTERS value in the registry that I've seen as a solution on some forums is not present on my machine. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus (no flaming please lol - it meets my needs and is extremely lightweight, which is why I'm using it on a gaming rig) and it's not indicating any issues. I've also tried running iTunes as an administrator (even though my account is a local admin on the machine) and that does not have any effect either.
If there is anything I left out, please let me know; and I thank you in advance!AphexTwin wrote:

New Firewire 800 External Hard Drive and how to use old External USB Drive
Hi All,
I have a new LaCie d2 Quadra Hard Disk hard drive 500 GB - FireWire / FireWire 800 / Hi-Speed USB / eSATA-300 on the way, when it arrives I plan to use it as my Time Machine Backup drive with the FireWire 800 connection. I am currently using a Seagate Free Agent USB 2.0 320 GB external drive as my Time Machine disk. The reason for upgrading is the USB drive is slow slow slow! I am not concerned about the data on my old drive and will just wipe it clean using Disk Utility. What I would like to do is use the old drive to archive iTunes 7.7.1 and Aperture 2.0 music and photographs. Can someone give me an idea how to go about doing this?
Thanks!Hi, yes that will copy the whole iTunes..including everything in iTunes..BUT, as you add to your iTunes on the Main HD, with the ext HD I think you will have to manually update anything added. Or dragNdrop the whole thing again.. You could also locate you iTunes music Library & just copy that across..With images once again find your iPhoto library & just copy that across..L

How do I Install Windows 7 on Mac Book Pro via a Bootable USB Drive
Hi Guys,
I have a Mac Book Pro 13 inch, Early 2011 Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 (I initially had OS 10.5.8 which I upgraded to OSX 10.9.4 a few months ago).
When purchased it, I installed Windows via Super Drive (that being the only time i ever used the super drive). My Windows got corrupted for some reason 2 months ago. Hence, I removed the windows via Bootcamp to perform a fresh install. I discovered my Super Drive was no longer working.
Thereon I have been trying to install Windows via a bootable USB Drive but am failing to do so. After going through several forums, I have reached the following stage.
1. Created Bootable Windows USB Drive using Windows USB (http://www.wikihow.com/Create-a-Bootable-Windows-7-or-Vista-USB-Drive). Have used this USB drive to install windows on a DELL Computer
2. Bootcamp wasnt creating a partition for windows since no Windows Installation disc was being detected in super drive. (Solved it by downloading Toast Titanium and loading the .iso file on a virtual drive).
3. Boot menu was initially not detecting external drive, so installed rEFIt - An EFI Boot Menu and Toolkit. Now it is detecting the USB Drive.
Now when I boot from this device, it get a black screen with the message "No bootable device - Insert Boot Disk"
Request someone to please help me install windows as some softwares which I work with are windows based.smartestidiot wrote:
So my understanding is that my Boot Camp Assistant (BCA), since it does not allow USB installer, it sets NVRAM to boot from Optical Drive. Right?
Yes.
So can I change it or update it to another BCA version which supports the same??
All BCA versions drive the logic based on the Mac Model Identifier. Unfortunately there is no real workaround. .

Global reset of file / folder permissions on a USB Drive
I just migrated to a new MB Pro. I now have an issue with file permissions on my USB drive that I use for Time Machine and some other external data. I understand (sort of) why the permissions are messed up, because you're forced to come up with a new user name when you migrate your data and applications. That being said, I just want to globally reset / update the permissions on my USB drive and it's data so that I'm the owner; and I can read and write. And I want to save all my data.
I've started this process going from the "get information" screen, so I think I know how. But it's been running forever. Isn't there some type of universal setting for a drive or does it just need to crunch thru every single file and directory?Whatever you've done already it's the wrong thing to do. You cannot arbitrarily change permissions on every file on your backup using the Get Info window. The result will be a complete screwup of all the file permissions on your backup. You will manage to make a simple problem into an unsolvable one.
Next time you should ask first before you act rather than after when you cannot go back. Since you did this to your TM backup drive about all you can do at this point is erase the drive and start your TM backups from scratch. Of course this doesn't resolve anything for whatever you tried to migrate to your new computer.
If you migrated your old Home folder to the new computer then first be sure the account has admin status, then log into the account. You should then have full access to all your restored files. You can then delete the other user account. -
How to stop importing from usb drive going into root ITMS directory
First time I imported, everything was fine. I was trying to get rid of some duplicates and got rid of one of the main subdirectories (I had "Itunes Music" folder with two main subdirectories, let's call them "Laptop" and "Desktop." I noticed I had many duplicate artists from these, so I deleted the "Laptop" directory. Naturally, all these showed up with asterisks on iTunes. With no easy way to delete them all (can't sort based on asterisk, apparently), I removed EVERYTHING from my Library and attempted to copy over from the USB drive again. This time, the contents of "Laptop" went into the root "iTunes Music" folder (so there were now ~50+ folders including the "Desktop."
This isn't working for me, since my objective is to get rid of the duplicate work (duplicate tracks I can somewhat stomach, but I also have some duplicate "Artists" which is driving me crazy). I removed everything from the library, deleting it all (~30+GB) and deleted all of the subdirectories from the iTunes Music folder.
When I went to reimport it all again. I dragged the "Laptop" folder from Finder on the USB drive into the iTunes Music directory again (as I did the first time), recreated the and everything continues to populate the top iTunes music folder. Is there any way to stop this? I want the "Laptop" folder to stay in it's subdirectory structure distinct and separate from the "Desktop" folder so I can ensure I am not unnecessarily increasing my structure.
One easy (though extremely tedious) alternative could be to import the folders one at a time... but I'd really like to avoid that. But for my first mistake, this wouldn't have been an issue. I haven't changed any settings on iTunes, so please advise!I have duplicate (different) stuff on the laptop versus desktop but some unique to each (and all kinda scrambled up). I first started importing on my old G3 ibook. It was slower and chugged harder and some are at really low bitrate, for example, and also lack album art. My XP desktop was made for gaming and is much more powerful, so I always did high bitrate and was much more careful to do all the album art, etc.
Now I'm trying to consolidate it all on my new MBP... Mostly, though, it's a mess and I've been putting this off for years and it's mostly my fault. My biggest gripe is the large number of duplicate tracks. I can live with these when they're from different albums (compilations mostly), but not when one is a lower bit. I imagine I'm gonna be doing it the hard way, one album/artist at a time... -

[SOLVED]Mounting usb drives "not authorized" with thunar-volman (XFCE)
Hi,
I'm new to Arch (even though I must be approximately at my 15th try at installing it properly) and I have a problem with thunar-volman.
Whenever I log in as user, and try to mount a usb drive with thunar, let's say I want to plug a drive labeled Ext3_8Go, I get the same message in a pop-up window : "Failed to mount Ext3_8Go (or anything close, not in English in the text), not authorized (that part is in English)"
My install is :
- net install
- partitions : 9Go for /, no swap, no separate /home
- packages : base and base-devel. The only modifications in the package list is that I remove ppp, pcmciautils, and xfsprogs.
- config : at the install stage I only modify rc.conf to change LOCALE and HOSTNAME, and pacman's mirrorlist to allow all French mirrors in addition to the one at the top.
When the usb installation is over, I run this script :
"installation_xfce.sh" (there may be some errors left, I modify this script as I learn) :
#!/bin/bash
# expected environment : freshly installed archlinux, login : root.
echo "Are you connected to internet ? If not, please Ctrl+C and reload this script when connected"
echo "Otherwise, press ENTER to continue installation"
read var_dummy
echo "Creation of the user : please type in your user name :"
read var_username
useradd -u 1000 -g users -G audio,lp,storage,optical,video,wheel,games,power,network -d /home/$var_username/ -s /bin/bash -m $var_username

I can mount as a user, no password asked, with :
udisks --mount /dev/sdb2
but the GUI method tells me "not authorized".

For those who don't have time to read the installation script, DBUS is in the DAEMONS list of rc.conf, and .xinitrc launches : exec ck-launch-session startxfce4
Any idea ?

That worked !
I stumbled across this part of the wiki several times before, but didn't really understand so I had not tried.
If anyone's interested in the script, here's the corrected version :
#!/bin/bash
# expected environment : freshly installed archlinux, login : root.
echo "Are you connected to internet ? If not, please Ctrl+C and reload this script when connected"
echo "Otherwise, press ENTER to continue installation"
read var_dummy
echo "Creation of the user : please type in your user name :"
read var_username
useradd -u 1000 -g users -G audio,lp,storage,optical,video,wheel,games,power,network -d /home/$var_username/ -s /bin/bash -m $var_username
echo "You will now be asked to create the password for this user:"
passwd $var_username

exec ck-launch-session startxfce4

USB Drive and iPod do not show up on desktop
Hello,
I put the computer to sleep when I'm going to be away for awhile and overnight. When I come back and wake it, my USB drive does not appear on the desktop. I have to restart the iMac to get it to come back.
Also, when I plug my iPod in, iTunes updates it and then within 10 minutes, the icon does not show on the desktop but I can see the iPod in iTunes.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
BradI did run the hardware test and everything passed.
For about 3 hours last night, everything was working fine. This morning the USB drive icon is there but not the iPod. I think I will try the OS reinstall but not for about a week. I will be out of town all next week and can't get to it before I leave.
Something may have gone wacky while loading some application. A couple of the suspects would be Adobe Lightroom beta 4 or Google Earth. This issue only started within the last 5 days or so and I think those are the only applications I've loaded in that time.
Thanks for the help in eliminating some of the culprits. I think the OS install should fix. If not, it may be time to have Apple take a look.
