WRT610N v2 dead on installation

ran the install program, answered the questions, screen said router was installed. but I can't access it, I can't ping it, the browser doesn't recognize the router's IP address, and my existing, functioning network (6 computers, 2 printers and a backup storage drive) stopped working. I shut down the WRT610N and everything restored to normal. If I can't get into the web-based utility I don't know how I can get this to function.
Is the install program broken? The linksys download website had a more recent install program than the CD, so I used it. Network Magic put some icons on the desktop but there seems to be nothing there. I can't find and files in the Network Magic folder in Programs, and Network Magic is not listed in Remove Programs. And the icons won't go away. This is disappointing.

Adobe CS5.5 Production Premium Install Errors and Other Issues

Hi,
I just installed Adobe CS5.5 Production Premium on my computer and had some errors pop up at the end of installation. I will paste the summary below. I've tried to install Procction Premium a couple of times. I've used the Adobe Cleaner Tool. From what I've researched, the Flash Issue is a a false error since Flash was already installed on the computer. Is the rest of it connected to the Flash issue as well?
Thr programs all seem to work fine except for the issue below.
My other question is that when I am in Windows Explorer and I Right-Click on say a .jpg file and select Open With... I am not able to select Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator for that matter. I have Dreamweaver CS4 and that shows up as an option. I have gone through the process of trying to add the Adobe Photoshop .exe file, but it still doesn't work. However, if I open Adobe Bridge, I am able to select Photoshop or Illustrator to open a file. Is this connected to my install or is there something else going on? I did uninstall an ancient version of Adobe Photoshop 7.0 that I've had for years, but that was prior to installing Production Premium CS5. Could that have caused an issue? I read that uninstalling an old Photoshop can cause problems like this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, your installation errors appear to be the innocuous false errors related to the brain-dead Flash installer. If the programs seem to be working fine, don't worry about it. As far as not being able to open images with Photoshop from Windows Explorer, I recommend taking that question to the Photoshop forum.

Spotify Premium Adverts/Annoncents and Other Issues

Hello I have been a paying customer for some months now and am finding the windows app to become progressively worse with each update. As I pay for an ad free service I struggle to understand the justification of an 'Announcement' banner which dominates the screen upon start up. This is nothing more than an advert with a different title. Not only is the banner very frustrating to have to hide each and every time the computer is restarted, I also have to deal with some of the ridiculous and insulting suggestion, such as todays 'one direction'. - In my opinion this I utter rubbish and is clearly not based on any of my previous listening habits. Next is the apps scrolling behaviour. The Spotify app once followed the standard Windows scrolling behaviour like all other software. After a so called update, the app now scrolls a whole page per notch of the mouse wheel. This make navigating through artist page very frustrating at best and sometimes near on impossible. This issue could be avoided if the scroll bar on the right hand side of the interface had used colours which contrast each other better that 'grey on grey' which has been chosen. My final annoyance is with the iOS app which makes my iPhone unresponsive and unusable. This has now forced me to return to iTunes on my device and delete the app. This is becoming increasingly painfully service to use and have not seen and fixes.Can I please has a quick and meaning full response or I will be forced to cancel this subscription and look elsewhere for a music service. KT3aru and msi GF4ti4400

Hello i am posting this message on behalf of my father who has a very sick computer.
Back in April 02 my father purschased a msi KT3ARU motherboard and two msi GF4ti4400 graphics cards (one for his machine and one for my machine which uses an asus a7v266e mobo).
The first motherboard was found to be dead on installation and was duly changed by the supplier.
the replacement motherboard was installed along with the GF4 and worked fine for a few weeks (apart from the onboard sound quality which was not a problem as i use a sblive card anyway) .
I first started to get random lockups after about 20 minutes of computer use which required a reboot, so the hard drive was completley reformated and a fresh install of Windows xp was made this made no difference.
I then started to get graphical problemswhich initialy consisited of dots on the screen and then proggressed to blocks and total lockups, On rebooting after a lock up the graphical errors would occur during the post/boot sequence ie: the wording on screen during the post would be multi coloured.
Again the hard drives were reformated and fresh installs made and all the latest drivers used (via 4 in 1s,nvidia detonator etc) also the psu was changed for an Enermax 460watt, the problems still continued so the bios was flashed to the latest available on the msi web site. The problem still continued.
The GF4 graphics card from my computer was then swapped into my dads to see if the problem still occured the system ran fine for a week or so before the problems started again. Mean while my dads GF4 was placed in my system (which had run the other GF4 without any problems) within an hour i was experiencing the same graphical errors as my father. This seemed to point to a faulty graphics card so we tried to contacted the supplier unfortunatly todate we have been unable to contact them.
The card was then taken to another computer retailer for independant testing. They concluded that the GF4 was faulty.
When the second GF4 began to play up the whole system was taken to the same computer retailer who has concluded that both GF4s have become faulty and this has been probably caused by a faulty motherboard.
We then contacted [email protected] who after a few email exchanges has said that the motherboard and Gf4s should be returned under warranty to the place of purchase. As pointed out in my first email to them we have been unable to contact them and since informing support of this i have had no furthur contact from them.
Sorry about the length of this post but does anyone have any ideas where to go from here?

Finally found someone with exact same problem.
Just replaced a MSI ti4400 with a 4600, both had same problems as listed above. The 4400 started screwing up about 3 weeks or so after installation, the 4600 was FUBAR right from the start. So now i have to send the 4600 back, I wont be buying anymore MSI now because I will be too paranoid.
MSI you need to start testing your boards a little better before sending them out, thanks.
and FYI the re-seller i got mine from has removed the ti4400's completely.

Installation with Raid, etc... [dead issue, don't bother reading]

I'm trying to install arch using RAID and LVM, following the wiki procedure in Installing with Software Raid or LVM.
I am able to get to the point where I install the kernel. When I install it, the bottom of the screen flashes the "wrong fs type, etc" error, then the installer acts as though it is installing it anyway, going through the installation, configuration, and fallback configuration stuff.
If I continue, when I get to grub installation, I get the error that the drive doesn't exist. I've found some forum threads on this which indicate (I think) that I need to run makedevs before going to grub installation. If I type, makedevs, I get a command not found error.
The filesystem seems to be up and working, so I'm not sure what next steps I take to troubleshoot this.

So I tried the quickinstaller for some better control, which seems to help. I also found this in the forums, it allows me to run makedevs. /dev/md0 is already mounted at /mnt are my root, so I skipped the first line, not sure what else I could do there.
mount /dev/hdxY /mnt
chroot /mnt /bin/bash
mount -t sysfs none /sys
mount -t proc none /proc
makedevs
mount -a
Then vi /boot/grub/menu.lst :
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/md2 ro md=2,/dev/hda3,/dev/hdb3
Then launched grub as quoted in the wiki
Now, it doesn't say to exit the chroot to go on to grub - but it must be required because there is no /mnt/dev unless you do. Once out, if I use
mount -o /dev /mnt/dev, I get a new error:
mount: can't find /mnt/dev in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
Which it isn't, but /mnt/dev does certainly exist.
I'm working on the very edge of my linux knowledge here, and suspect I'm making a fundamental error, but (obviously) don't know what it is.:(

i really apologize for this because it's something that shouldn't happen at all, but im only a human too.
/dev is not correctly mounted in installation system (during archboot cleanup i thought this is not needed sad )
--> setup cannot bind /dev to installed system.
--> autodetection of filesystem will fail, which will cause the default initrd to fail on boot.
2 workarounds:
First workaround before entering setup:
mount -t ramfs none /dev
/etc/start_udev
now setup works as it should!
Second workaround:
while using setup:
edit /etc/mkinitcpio to not include autodetect in HOOKS= array
1 workaround if you already installed and system doesn't boot:
use the kernel26-fallback.img as initrd in your bootloader
after successfull boot just fix the ramdisk:
mkinitcpio -p kernel26

I backed out and started all over a couple times, finally installed via Duke with updates. Found that I had to reinstall filesystems to my hard drive; something obviously got messed up, and ultimately found a couple of "typos" that had managed to mess me up. Because I fixed so many things on the way to installation, I can't tell you exactly what I did, so I'm marking this thread as a dead issue so people don't bother reading it.

I've been using LSR (Linux Software RAID) with Arch for a while now and it's never given me any trouble: I don't even know how that works since all I have to do is make sure the md module and the appropriate module for your RAID-type (in my case raid0.ko) is loaded: when these are compiled into the kernel, the md-module automagically finds my RAID-partitions and starts the correct md-devices in /dev.
I don't have any md-daemon running (I didn't even know there was one until I read your post).
And still everything just works.
What I think you need to do is repartition both of your RAID-1 discs and make sure your partition's type is "Linux raid autodetect" (type fd). Once you've done that, create the md-device and put a filesystem on it. Edit /etc/rc.conf and put "md" and "raid1" in the list of modules to be loaded at boottime, get rid of the mdadm service since it doesn't exist anyway.
Now after rebooting, once the RAID-modules are loaded they should detect and start up your RAID-array automagically. Check this with dmesg.

Since you have a new hard drive, there is nothing on it, so you need to boot from an external source (and probably format the hard drive before installing an OS). Are you booting from the 10.6 install disk? Better yet - do you have a bootable backup clone or at least a Time Machine backup?

400 days(walking dead) installs but then disappears

I have bought 400 days(walking dead game) for my PS3, downloaded it, it shows up under games, asks to be installed, I say yes, it installs 100%, then disappears-nowhere to be found. I have tried 3 or 4 times now. Anyone know what the problem could be??

You do have The Walking Dead game don't you ?? you need that to be able to play 400 days as it's only add-on content to the main game. I think you only need episode 1 of The Walking Dead to be able to play 400 days though *edit* I just had a look on the PS store and you only need to have episode one

Deactivate program on dead computer complete installation on laptop

Old Dell computer died,took away.need to download Photoshop Elements 9 to myHP Laptop. I did download this program to daughters computer as a backup..now when trying to finish downloading, the message says deativate 1 computer.
How do I deactivate dead computer ,Leave daughters as backup and complete installation .

Is it possible to install Leopard on to an older mac mini that has a nonfunctioning CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive but otherwise works fine for what it is

Boot the mini into TD mode
Connect it to the "other" Mac
Insert the install disk in the "other" Mac
Start the installer which will reboot the "other" Mac
Once the "other" Mac has restarted and is running from the install disk, you should be able to select the Mini's drive (the FW disk) as the install destination. If not, go into the Disk Utility (under the "Utilities" menu) and check out the FW disk. You may need to "repair" it, repair permissions or reformat it depending on the condition of the disk and the type of partition it contains.

FireWire dead after Leopard installation?

Hello all,
Just upgraded to 10.5.2 and my USB and FireWire ports went dead.
Reset PRAM, which brought back the USB ports.
But, My G-Drive Q is no longer mounted via the FireWire port (after restart of it and the Mac).
Disk Utility doesn't see it either.
"About This Mac-- More Info" shows "unknown device" connected to FireWire.
I see no other postings when searching this forum for "G-drive" or "GDrive".
The G-Technology forums don't have an answer either, as far as I can see, although others seem to have had FireWire/Leopard issues.
Any suggestions?

if you search under 'no firewire or missing firewire' you will find lots of people like ourselves who have had issue since installing leopard. I have just installed 10.5.3 on my G4 powerbook in the hope this update would now resolve the problem but it has not. I don't think anyone is listening on this subject and other ideas such as reset pram does not work, or at least has not for me regardless of how many times i have tried. the odd thing is I installed leopard to my G5 desk top with no issues....so if anyone out there has had the same problem with a powerbook and found the answer please let us know.

E71: Duplicate/Dead Icons in Installations folder

My E71 came with the Tiger Woods PGA Tour game pre-installed, but recently the game icon began to duplicate itself... Now I am left with three PGA game icons in my installations folder and none of them works... I also tried to uninstall the game, but only one of the icons allows uninstall and that too it gives an error halfway thru, saying 'Removing Failed!'...
I've tried Nokia MIDlet restorer, but that didn't work either...
Any ideas??

Many dead cmd.exe on Windows 2008 R2 Oracle 11.2.0.2 RAC Installation

After successful installation of a two node Oracle RAC 11.2 on Windows 2008 R2 we investigate a daily growing number of cmd.exe all running the following statement:

Does anyone know the originator/source of this "cluvfy" command?
Maybe the Grid Control Agent?
We think, that the "/K" option is the problem, i.e. the reason while the cmd.exe will not terminate.
When we run the "cluvfy" manually everythings results successfully.

I have done the same and get the run around from the support tech when I ask for clarification. Even asked duty manager for assistance and was sent right back to the support tech that I could not get conclusive answers to my question from the first time. Seems he is telling me that he opened a new bug up for my answer but the description of the problem is not the same so how can I believe him. He wants me to apply patch 12 but I thought the later patches set are supposed to contain previous patches, so why not apply patch 14 or newest. Seems none of the patches show that they solve the Windows Heap Issue for 11.2.0.3. Even the bug note says it will be fixed in 11.2.0.4. Just one more reason we are planning (although against my better judgement) to move away from oracle.

Dead phone after installation

I had broadband and phone line installed a couple of days ago. Bb is fine but once the engineer left I went to make a phone call and the line was dead. The engineer moved some wires around as the main socket was in the wrong location. I think it's very likely the moving of the wires has killed the phone line as it was working prior to that. I reported the fault and the tracker says they are checking the network and it'll take a week to sort it out. I can't believe the network is the problem as its surely not a coincidence that the phone line died after he messed with the sockets. I'm hoping the bt help team can pick this up and get an engineer to my house rather than waste time on external non existent problems.

have you tried connecting you phone to the test socket this will eliminate any internal wiring and give a direct connection to the exchange

One row of keys has stopped working. System was fine last night, sent it to sleep as usual. When I woke it up this morning, the keys were dead. I made no changes to the system at all recently (new installs, font changes, etc.).

The keys that no longer work are on the lower row, from Z~/ (plus the left-most Command key and the space bar on the bottom row). System is iMac (Intel), about five years old, running 10.5.8 (happily), with a wired keyboard (with number pad).
Solutions tried (all without fixing the problem):
- change to another keyboard
- change keyboard(s) to another USB port
- reset SMC (twice)
- reset PRAM (twice)
- switch to another User Account
Kind of running out of ideas ... Anybody have any suggestions?

Other things tried:
- checked all the options in Universal Access, to make sure none of the 'Sticky Keys' etc. were activated
- booted from the Install disc ... still no go. Even then, the same keys don't work.
Looks very much like a major hardware fault, I guess ...
