WRT610N - wireless paperweight

Picked one of these up a month ago, and have had nothing but problems with it.  Support, leaves a lot to be desired...
So here is the problem.  Any computer within 20 feet, has a poor signal.  Anything farther away, you get dropped all the time.  We have the latest b18 firmware update, and it has NOT fixed this issue.  Until this can get resolved, reverting back to the 20 dollar router that was once hooked up, it gives a stronger signal and isn't even N band.  I've tried multiple network adapters for wireless pc's, no improvements.  I'm about to throw in the towel, and toss this thing in the garbage and get something better.  For 160.00, I expected quality.

As per your issue is concern you have to setup the Router for 2.4Ghz settings Manually as WRT610N is a Dual Band Router.
So access the Linksys Router setup page by http://192.168.1.1 in the hard wired Computer to the Router to any one of the 4 ports on the Router. When you hit enter it will ak you for a username and password keep the username blank and use the default password as "admin".
Click on the Wireless tab and configure the Wireless settings for 2.4GHz and Disable the 5.0Ghz.
Similarly for wireless security configure it only for 2.4GHz and not for 5.0GHz.
Remember when you are configuring the Wireless settings for 2.4GHz select the Radio Band as Standard 20Mhz and then Standard channel as 9-2.452GHz and also changed the Wireless Network name or SSID.
Then try to connect to the Wireless Network on the Laptop and check if you are getting weak signals.

  • Wrt610n wireless network does not work after firmeware upgrade

    Hi
I just updated my Wrt610n hardware version 1 to the newest firmware, it did finish with sucess, I did factory reset reboot and reconfig. But the wireless network does not work , cant connect computers to it. Did downgrade the firmware to the same it was and restore my settings but still wireless does not work. But router works fine with lan.  Any suggestions? maybe the firmware tosted the router?
    Regards
    Stefan

    Update -
After last reset and reupgrade with the newest firmware for hardware version 1 I could config the router and connect 2 computers with wireless - but only for about 15 mín - then they lost connection and could not reconnect.
I did then get the newest update for hardeware version 2 - just to try and upgraded with that and got success, and now I have reset the router again and config it and those 2 computers are connected and have been for 1 hour now. So seems to be working - is it okay to have the firmware for hardware version 2 on my version 1 router?
Any thought what is going on - could it be that the other firmware had not loaded compleytle or?

  • Setting the time on Linksys WRT610N wireless router

Using a Linksys WRT610N, v1, latest firmware installed.
I have been working on wireless access permissions for specific times but, after testing, it appears the time is off 7 or 8 hours.  I checked the time zone and it is correct but I can't find anyplace to tell me what time the router thnks it is.
How do I tell what time the router thinks it is and how do I change the time?

Open the setup page of the router .
On the Basic Setup page at the bottom you will see the Time Zone settings .
Select the Time Zone in which you are .
See if that helps you .

  • WRT610N wireless keeps disconnecting + Need Firmware info?

My Linksys WRT610N recently started having the issue of continuosly disconnecting the wireless connection every 30 seconds or so. I did a power recycle but that did not help.
The router's firmware version is 2.00.00 B50 . I tried searching for the latest firmware on the linksys site but I get to is 88MB download package for installation which doesn't even indicate if the Firmware file is part of the package and what the firmware version is in the package. I'm not sure why it is difficult to find this very simple inforation.
If anyone can point me to solution for the constant wireless disconnections and also what the latest firmware is for the WRT610N and whare I can find it, I would really appreciate it.

Firmware in the downloads tab of the below link:

  • WRT610N - wireless connection problem

I have quite old netbook, Toshiba NB200, running Windows XP SP3 + all postfixes, which cannot connect at all to my WRT610N via WP2 2.4 GHz wireless channel. Though:
    - my iPhone connects to it automatically, in a fraction of a second;
    - that notebook connects to all another wireless routers I've ever met.
In the Net I've found some solutions (like stop the LinkSys service), but none of them helped. Any ideas?

What error message do you get when you try to connect to the wireless network.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router and go to wireless tab.
Check the Wireless network name. Go to Wireless security sub tab. Make sure that you have a correct password for wireless network. Click on Wireless MAC filter sub tab and make sure that it is disabled.
Remove all the preferred wireless networks from your wireless XP computer and try to connect to the wireless network again.

  • WRT610N - Wireless repeater

    Can i make a wrt610n a repeater using a e4200 as a base?

Hello. The WRT610N will not communicate wirelessly as it does not have a wireless repeater mode. Even if you disable DHCP server, it will just act as an AP (access point) accepting wireless clients but will not connect to a base or another AP/router wirelessly.

  • WRT610N wireless needs reboot

I have a WRT610N V1 w/ the latest firmware Ver.1.00.03.15.  The wired connection works great so far.  The wireless connection works well also, that is, when I can connect.  The problem is that I have to reboot the router every couple of days to be able to connect to it wirelessly.  Once connected, it works fine.  But if I disconnect and come back the next day, chances are I have to wire up and reboot the router.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  Thanks.

As you already have a latest firmware installed on your Router, Have you tried to reset your Router and re-configured all the settings back on your Router from the scratch?
On your Router setup page, click on the Wireless Tab and under 2.4GHz Wireless Settings change the Radio Band to Standard- 20Mhz Channel, and below change the Standard Channel to 11 and click on Save Settings.
Once you are back to the same page,  Then you need to click on the Sub tab under Wireless "Advance Wireless Settings" and under 2.4GHz Wireless Settings Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now try to connect to your Wireless Network and check if you are facing the Same Problem.

  • WRT610N WIRELESS SIGNAL FAULT ?

    Hi
I have one of the above units which has worked fine since i first set it up over a year ago.
Yesterday I tried to add an Epson sx425 WI-FI printer, I followed the instrucions and it connected ok
however it started to drop the link intermitently and kept failing to print (which was also crap from my machine and total jibberish from any other!) then it lost it all together and all the other wireless devices lost their connection .
The router reported it was ok with good signal strength but nothing connected so I switched it off for half an hour and rebooted but it was still the same so I tried to change the pass word but still nothing will connect. I have tried to reset the router also but this had no effect. the units plugged in via wire are working ok it is just something to do with the wirless signal!
Has anyone got any ideas on how I can sort this as I am loosing the will to live !
    Cheers.
    Bc.

Well if you have any wired computer with the Router then check the IP address… You can check the IP address in the following manner:
Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. A black pop up box should come up, type: "ipconfig /all" …
There check the IP address and Default Gateway under LAN….
So the Router (WRT610N) that you have is a Simultaneous dual-band Wireless-N Router... It means it has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies...
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type “Address of the Default Gateway” that will open up the Router setup page…
    # Then Click on wireless Tab do the following channel settings:
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
    # Click Save Settings...
After doing the following settings check the Epson sx425 WI-FI printer connectivity….

  • WRT610N Wireless Router

Currently I have a Thomson Wireless Broadband Router which is almost 3 years old so I decided to replace it with the 610N which looked a stunning piece of kit.
But after reading various reviews I'm confused on how it will connect to my Broadband connection. The Thomson just has the broadband connection plugged straight in and with a couple of config changes works but I've read in some reviews that you can configure PPoE connection on the router but you need a broadband modem in between the circuit and router is this correct as I was just hoping for a straight swap out of the Thomson for the Linksys not have to keep the Thomson around to use as the connection to my Broadband circuit?
Also can I use the 5Ghz frequency for bridging?
    Thanks
    Jon

Normally PPPoE connection/set-up is used if you have DSL Internet Service Providor...If you have cable Internet Service Providor follow the link here , If you have DSL Internet Service Providor follow the link here
What connection you want to Bridge with 5GHz Frequency...

  • WRT610n wireless LED flashes constantly

Should the wireless LED be flashing constantly even with the cable modem in standby? WPA2 is enabled, and no wireless devices (that i am aware of) are connected to the router. I was under the impression that the wireless led only flashed when there was wireless activity, but stayed solid otherwise.

Try changing your security passphrase and see if it does it, If it keeps on flashing within a short time just ignore it.
Some times the LED are not "correct" but the device is working as it should.
If it takes a day or two to have the LED to start flashing again like it is then tell us.
    GoodLuck

  • WRT610N Wireless Broadcast Problem

So I have a problem.  The only way my computers and PS3 can connect to the internet through my router is if it is hardwired.  Wirelessly, everything DETECTS the network, but will not connect.  I have tried various things to no avail.  Here's what I am trying to connect wirelessly.
    PSP
    Windows 7 PC
    PS3
Like I said, the all recognize the network but they don't connect unless hardwired.
My settings right now are as follows:
    SSID Enabled
Signal Wireless N Only (when I put the signal as mixed the psp and ps3 did not find the network)
    Channel 11
    20MHZ Only
WEP Enabled and I have entered the key on each system.
    Wireless Mac Filter Disabled
    I have tried the following:
    Channel: Auto
    Signal Mixed
I am using Windows 7,and my router firmware and wirless adapters are up to date. Any help would be appreciated.

Open the setup page of the router.
Go to wireless tab and set the configuration view to manual.
Change the wireless network name for 5 Ghz wireless band. Set the network mode to Mixed.
Change the wireless network name for 2.4 ghz wireless band and change the wireless channel to 11. Save the settings.
Go to Wireless security tab and change the security mode to WPA. Enter the password.
Go to Advanced wireless settings. Change the Beacon interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.
Try to connect to the new wireless network and see if that works.

  • WRT610N Wireless Unstable

Hi All, I got this router to replace my WRT54G about 2 months ago and things seem to be going well for 1 - 2 weeks before my problems start hitting me. I use 2 media players at home and I use this router as the central routing interface for transferring movies between these media players which are plugged into the Aztech Home Plug network and connected to my router. Other than that, I have 3 notebooks connecting via wireless to this router, 1 i-Mac and 1 PC connecting to it via wire. The different brands of notebooks which I have have always indicated that this router has no internet access even though the signal strength is 100% and upon accessing the router, I also observed that there is a public facing IP address and nothing is wrong with my routing because all my wired clients are still accessing both the intranet and internet. This message which I see from my clients happens at an intermittent basis and it is very hard for me to replicate to isolate what the potential root cause might have been. Can I get help from someone please?

Try to adjust the wireless settings given below on the router and check if that helps...!!!
Open the router setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and Under the Wireless tab,For 2.4GHZ...Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled. For 5GHZ...Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to159 and Standard Channel to 161-5.805GHz...Click on save settings.
Under the Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now,power cycle the router and check..

  • WRT610N causing Wireless printer to randomly become active...

    Hello,
I recently purchased a WRT610N wireless router, and since then, my printer has been going active for no particular reason...
My printer is a Epson PX800FW. I have searched and searched online, but i cannot find a solution to this problem. It only happens like every few minutes or so, and my printer would just go "printing..." for a few seconds, then stop...
My thoughts are, could it be the router somehow checking my connection to that printer or something?
Any help would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts,
    Thank you in advance
Edit: a little extra info, I can still print from the printer just fine, and i am running Network magic on my PC's and laptops (if that makes a difference...)

The printer is fully wireless, so its actually not doing it on any computers at all i guess.
I tried your solution and it appears the problem still exists (it actually flashed seconds after i changed the settings, heh). I'm assuming its not on my printers side, because it didnt happen until i purchased and set up this router. Prior to that I used my DSL modem/router and I didnt cause any problems with my printer.
But just to check, i went through and reconfigured my printer (theres not all that many settings :/ ) and it still did it. Though there is a few manual settings. DHCP, DNS, and Proxy settings, I don't know if that helps at all? I always just had it on Auto with those settings.
    Thanks.

  • Home Wireless Router Cascading

I had a WRT610N wireless router that was working fine and just replaced it with a e4200.  Everything on the e4200 is also working fine, as far as I can tell.  I want to redeploy the WRT610N in the far reaches of my home as a wireless hub to add range to my network.  I supposed that I could connect a LAN cable to the 610N get a DHCP address from the e4200 and then pass wireless traffic that connects to the 610N to the e4200.  However it does not seem to work.  I cannot get an IP address from the e4200.
Is using a 610N router as a wireless hub something that should be possible?
    Thanks for your help.

  • When to use CWDM and DWDM?

Hi all, My understanding is that you would use "generally" DWDM to get more channels than CWDM, because CWDM is slightly less accurate than DWDM so the optics are cheaper. I only need two channels to start with, but 10Gbps, for this reason do I need
