WRT610N with netgear DG834gt in modem only mode - HELP!!!

Hi all,
As the title suggest, I need some help configuring the 610N to work with my previous modem / router DG834gt.
So far I’ve tried:
Setting the DG834gt in modem only mode.  It connects to my ISP no problem.  I’ve then connected it to the internet port on the 610N and set it to PPOE.
I’ve set up the user name and password correctly and hit connect….Nothing.  It seem strange that I have to config the modem with the user / pass and the router, should I try to set it up as static or dynamic IP.
What am I doing wrong???

Hi... thanks for the reply and sorry for the bad explanation.
I've set the connection type on  WRT610N as PPPoE.  The Netgear has a modem only mode accessed through a hidden menu ( http://vpncasestudy.com/download/DG/DG834_Tips100.pdf ) When in this mode it's apparently invisible.
There's no DHCP or wireless, it literally makes the connection and nothing else.
You have to add the login credentials for your ISP into the modem, the modem makes the connection - my problem is working out how to configure the 610N to connect through the modem, if at all possible.
Hope you can help - thanks.

  • Time Capsule & Netgear DG834GT in Modem Mode - Not working

I've just taken delivery of a 1TB Time Capsule. I've switched my existing Netgear DG384GT modem/router into modem only mode, so routing functionality is disabled. I just want to use the DG834GT as a simple ADSL modem, whilst utilising the features (DHCP, wireless etc) of the TC.
I've connected the two together, but I can't get a green light on the TC. The DG834GT definitely has an internet connection. I have the TC set to "Share a public IP address", but it doesn't appear to be able to get an ip address from the DG834GT. TCP/IP is set to use DHCP. I've tried everything, without success.
The only way I've managed to get the working together is by re-enabling DHCP and NAT in the DG834GT, and setting the TC to use bridge mode. This is not what I want to do, as my aging DG384GT has problems when too many wireless devices try to connect.
Am I missing something? How can I get the TC to obtain the ip address from the DG834GT? I don't want to have to buy an ADSL modem unless I really need to.
    Help!
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the discussions!
Can you clarify if you have DSL service there? In other words, when you first setup the Netgear to connect to your service, did you enter your user name and password into the device to connect to the internet?

  • HH3 Modem Only mode?

I have tried to do as much digging on this subject as possible and cannot find what I thought would be a fairly straightforward answer to the question of whether or not it is possible to use the HH3 as purely a modem.
Let me explain a little about my situation first:
I am currently in an area that is supplied by Virgin (whom I am more than happy with) but am about to move into an area that is not cabled, therefore my broadband options are limited but BT would seem to be the best option for me.
I currently have a Netgear WNDR3700 Router which is both Gigabit and dual band wireless, which sadly the HH3 doesn't appear to be, therefore I want to let the netgear handle all network related actions (including DHCP etc...) and have the HH3 act as nothing more than a modem that supplies internet access to the above router.
As above, I currently have the Virgin equivelant of the HH3 (the Virgin Superhub) and whilst it can act as both modem and router in one, it has the option to turn it into a modem only so I can utilise the far superior qualities of the netgear router.
As I was hoping to not have to spend any more money on moving such as a new router/modem, is it possible to use the HH3 as described? I really do not want to ahve soem frankenstein system by where the router gets to do some fo the jobs but the HH£ does the others as this is just asking for trouble and poor performance.

With luck your line will be better than mine
Have a look at this thread which is relevant although it is on the infinity board  http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/List-of-Routers-to-replace-Home-Hub-3/td-p/298203  and this  http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/wireless/hh3replace.html  if you scroll down to the bottom of the page on the last link the main menu refers to Keith-Bs font of knowledge which is frequently referenced on these forums

  • How to pass system date and time with tabular from in Update only Mode.

    Dear Friends,
i have created tabular form with UPDATE Only .here i am assigning work to another multiple users.i want to insert system date and time when i assign work to multiple users.
How can i insert system date and time into table using tabular form in Update Only Mode.
beacuse i have pass in default system date it's working only with add row button.
How can i pass system date and time in update mode in tabular form.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You just create a trigger on the table on which you build your tabular form:
    e.g:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER  "AUDITING"
before insert or update on "MYTABLE"
    for each row
    begin
        if inserting then
            :new.created_on := localtimestamp;
            :new.created_by := nvl(v('APP_USER'),user);
        elsif updating then
            :new.updated_on := localtimestamp;
            :new.updated_by := nvl(v('APP_USER'),user);
        end if;
    end;Regards,

  • Connecting a wrt610n and netgear wnr2000v2 in wireless repeater mode

I am having trouble getting the wrt610n to connect to the wnr2000v2 that can be set a  wireless repeater.  I had a 160n hooked up and it was working fine, but am unable to get the 610n going on it.  I'm kinda new to setting this type of networking up , but have a general idea of how it works.  I have the 610n running and is broadcasting a signal, but the wnr 2000 will not connect to it wirelssly and repeat it.  The setup in the netgear is pretty basic , but I am new to the linksys 610n and the interface that's why I believe it has to do with the 610n.  Could someone please walk through the settings for me?  Any help would be appreciated.

So as per the scenario that you mentioned according to that could you please tell us the name of the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ).... As it all depends up the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) setup....  Secondly check the firmware version of the Router is updated or not if it is not then it can be downloaded from the Cisco website (homesupport.cisco.com ).... Once after updating the firmware reset the Router and configure it again...
As far as wireless is concern WRT610N Router is dual-band Wireless-N Router... So that it means it has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
    frequencies...
As far as wireless settings is concern you can use same wireless network name or even you can use different network name...
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161..
So these settings are sufficient to make the Netgear  WNR2000 v2 as a repeater mode...

  • How to user E4200 as router with WAG120N as a modem ONLY

I've both WAG120N and E4200, I want to use WAG120N as ONLY ADSL modem (no DHCP server or any other setting) and let the E4200 to the rest.
What option should I select in E4200 Internet connection type to make this?

The setup that you want may be possible but please add more info like who is your ISP and from what region. The reason for that is to identify as well if you can set the ADSL gateway to just a plain modem. It totally depends also on your ISP settings. As Tom pointed out, could you please clarify the ‘edit’ and ‘test’ database?
Which account you used for SQL Server service?
It seems a permission issue. The account should have the permission on the location which you placed the mdf file and ldf file in. And have the mdf and ldf file in the right location.

  • Problems reconfiguring ADSL modem+router to modem only

I've currently got the Netgear DG834G working as a modem+router and connected to the AEBS which is in bridge mode.
I want to use the AEBS as the router. I've discovered how to set the DG834G to modem only, but I cannot get the internet connection working like this. It connects using PPPoA. It asks me for a LAN IP address.
I'm not sure what I should be entering on the AEBS. In Airport Utility, under Internet, I have connect using Ethernet, IP address as the static IP address given to me by my ISP, for subnet mask I've entered 255.255.255.0, for router address I didn't know what to enter, and I've tried using the same as the static IP address, also tried a slight variation on that (increased the last value), I've tried using the IP address of the modem, but nothing has helped. The DNS server settings I've entered are those provided by my ISP. For connection sharing, I've set it to Share a Public IP address. NAT is enabled.
I've got no idea what is wrong. I've read in other threads about power cycling the devices, so I've tried that and it didn't work.
Perhaps if someone could point me to the right settings, perhaps it's worth power cycling again with the right settings. I'm particularly baffled by 2 things 1) what the AEBS wants for the Router Address and 2) why the modem has an IP address (perhaps just for accessing it's web based control panel?).
Help would be most welcome - I feel I have exhausted all of my 'trial and error' options.

If your ISP has provided you with a static IP address, then they will also have provided you with a subnet mask, a gateway or router (they are the same thing in this context) IP address, and domain name server address(es). It is essential to know this router (or gateway) IP address.
I've just reconfigured the DG834G back to mode+router, and noticed that when it connects it shows the subnet mark and gateway. My ISP only provided the IP address, and the Netgear seems to get the other details automatically. I have made a note of them, so I will try again entering them on the AEBS.
What remains unclear to me is exactly what functionality remains to the Netgear device when - as you said - it becomes configured to work as a modem only.
The info on the web control panel says it loses all routing functionality when in modem only mode.

  • How do I use a Netgear CM400 cable modem with my Time Capsule router?

I switched out my TWC modem for one I bought. I called and activated a CM400 Netgear modem with time Warner cable. They said it is activated and responding. My time capsule is on a green solid light but i can't connect to the Internet! Why??

Your previous setup may have been a modem router and the TC is connected in the wrong mode.. it should be dhcp and nat with a pure cable modem.. is it?
You also might need to put the TC into the correct mode.. then power off the modem for about 15min.. (try 5min first).. power up the modem.. wait 5min and then power up the TC .. it should grab the public IP and route that to the network.. reboot all the clients so they get fresh connection and see if that works.
If not give us a few screenshots from the airport utility of how the TC is setup.

  • Replacing Westell 6100 modem with Netgear Genie

Good day. I'm replacing Westell 6100 modem with a Netgear Genie. I need the following data to complete hookup. Thanks.
    Netgear Broadband ADSL2+ Modem (DMP111SP)
    IP Address
    Subset Mask
    Default gateway
    Preferred DNS Server
    Alternative DNS Server

Since you're plugged into the Westell, use http://192.168.1.1/ to log into the modem. From there, see if your modem shows something along the lines of "Routed Bridge" mode or if it shows "PPPoE" as the connection type. If PPPoE, follow the post I mentioned above. The same goes with Routed Bridge mode. Worst case scenario, call Verizon and have them ensure your Westell is configured correctly if you cannot get online with the Westell, and from there we'll see how the Netgear needs to be configured.
Also, what may have happened here is your Netgear's IP address could have changed. You will want to open up a Command Prompt Window (Start > search for the program "cmd.exe" or go to Start > Run > enter in cmd.exe) and run the command ipconfig. Default Gateway should give the IP of the router you're attached to in a home network.

  • Netgear DG834GT with TC

    Hi,
I'm waiting for my new MacBook to be delivered and in the meantime I have been thinking about my internet setup.
At the moment I have my Mac Mini connected directly to my ISPs Netgear DG834GT router as this will obviously give me a faster connection than using the Mini wireless. As I will be getting a MacBook I won't have it connected directly to my router so in theory I'm going to experience much slower internet connection as the router is only WiFi 'g' rated.
Now, would I benefit from getting myself a TC and connecting it to the router and then using the TC as a wireless access point for my MacBook as both are WiFi 'n' rated?
I will be using the MacBook in the same room as the router/TC 99% of the time.
    All advice gratefully received.
    Kind regards,
    Mark.

    Hmm...
Maybe it's just my Mac Mini then as I have done that test in the past as when I first got my Mac Mini I was connecting wirelessly which was OK, but once I switched to having the Mini connected directly to the router via ethernet my internet and download speeds were a lot faster.
I think my worry is that my previous experience using my Mini wirelessly and my internet connection being 'slow', I'm just concerned that I'll have the same issues when I get my new MacBook. I wasn't sure if perhaps it was to do with it only being 'g' certified and the Mini also.
My speed connected on my Mini just now was around 11 Mb/s and wirelessly it was around the same... weird! It was definitely slower wirelessly in the past! My mistake!
On that note then, will having the TC utilising the 'n' grade provide me with any benefits?

  • I am not able to use Firefox with Sharepoint - I can only open a file in read-only mode and cannot checkout the document and edit.

I would like to use Firefox with Sharepoint.
However, I am only able to open a file in "read only" mode whch means I cannot edit the document and save it. I am also not able to "check-out" a document in Sharepoint and edit it at the same time.

This may not work for everyone, but I solved this problem by clicking on the file name in sharepoint, not the document icon to the left of the name. This then brought up the various options, including checking out, editing, version history etc. It seems obvious but I have only just realised this!

  • I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. Is it Lion?

I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. As you can imagine this is very annoying. It says I am not connected to the internet and offers me a choice of nearby networks including mine and then asks for a password when I select it. Why does it do this with our new MacBooks (also with my son's brand new one) and not with the iPhone, iPad and older MacBook? They happily automatically connect to our network after entering the password just the once.

Sig, I appreciate you trying to be helpful. I have no idea what issues you were having or what issue exactly pgrounds has been having. Your assumption that everyone's set up is the same as yours is false however. There are many many documented WiFi issues that are a result of Lion installs. Many have been solved by 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. Others have been solved by a large variety of work arounds. Others have not had their issues solved yet.
I am one of those. I have an IT background, and I spent the better of five hours digging up workarounds and attempting all of them. For the benefit oh anyone who is having similar issues, I have posted links to all of those workarounds here. None of them worked in my case, but hopefully they will help pgrounds or others.
So, once again, if you have a new idea, I'd love to here it. But if it has already been posted in one of these links, it's not helpful, let it go.

  • Error when opening XLSX file with Excel 2003 SP3, file does open but in read only mode with temporary name

I am using Excel 2003 SP3 and have the Office 2007 compatibility pack installed.  When I open Office 2007 formatted Excel files (XSLX) directly in Windows Explorer, I receive the following error if I do not have Excel already opened:
"Windows cannot find '<path to file>'.  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.  To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."
Even though I receive the error, the file does open; however, it opens in Read Only mode with a name such as "Xl0000024.xls".  The number seems to increment up each time it happens.
Now here is the strange part.  If I have Excel already open and try to open the file in Windows Explorer, the file opens fine in Modify mode with no error and with the correct file name.
I Googled the error I was getting and found KB211494.  It says I should uncheck the box in Options on the General tab that says "Ignore other applications", but this box is already unchecked in my case.  Any other ideas?  This is
really frustrating as a small percentage of our company has upgraded to Office 2007 with the rest still on Office 2003.

This may be a file association problem.  To solve that:
    In Windows 7:
    1. Right-click the file,
    2. Select "Open With"
    select [Your Program Here]
    3. Check always use this program.
    In Windows XP:
    1. Locate the file as you have described above
    2. Right click the file
    3. Select Open with from the pop-up menu
    4. Click Choose default program…
    5. Select Excel in the Recommended Programs box
    6. Check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
    7. Click on OK.
    1.  Make Excel not available from Office 2007 listed under Programs and Features in Control Panel.
    2. Take a registry backup using the steps given here
    3. In the registry editor window expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and navigate to .xls right and delete it.
    4. Exit Registry Editor
    5. Undo Step 1 to make Excel available.
    6.  Restart the computer and verify it the issue is fixed.

  • Creating a 802.11g network with Base Station in "802.11n only" mode

I still have some legacy products running 802.11b/g, and want my Base Station to run in "n" only mode at 5GHz to keep the rest of the network as fast as possible.
My current strategy is to take an old 802.11g router, put it into access point mode, and connect it to the Base Station with an ethernet cable.
Unfortunately, this access point seems to fail frequently - connected devices can't find the access point, and rebooting the access point will temporarily fix the problem.
I'm wondering if an AirPort Express can replace the access point. It can run as "create a wireless network" in a mixed b/g/n mode. I would then cable it to the base station.
Will this slow down the remainder of the "pure" "n" network?
    Steve

I was asking something similar in another thread. What I'd like to do is run my existing b/g AP as it is and enable an Airport Extreme Base Station in AP mode in n-only mode. Supposedly, you can do this.
