WRTP54G-NA Drops VPN connection every hour

I have a WRTP54G-NA router running VOIP for Viatalk.   Connected to a ethernet port is my Juniper Netscreen VPN device used to create a VPN tunnel for work.  The problem I'm having is that every 60 minutes (exactly) the connection drops and has to reestablish.  The code on the Linksys is 3.1.24.  If I remove the Linksys and plug the Netscreen directly into my cable modem I have no disconnects.  Any ideas??

So what's the answer?  I have a similar problem when playing on my Xbox 360 every hour (at the same time) the Xbox is kicked off because the modem or router resets.  I have a linksys modem CM100 modem and a Linksys VIOP router from TMobile.  Is there a fix for this issue?  If so what is it?  Thx

  • EA3500 drops VPN connections via wireless

I don't have problems with the computer on other wireless connections with using VPN, so its not the laptop.  If I am connecting just to the internet and not trying to connect to the VPN i don't have any issues.   If I connect a CAT5 cable directly to the laptop I don't have any issues.  If I try to connect via the wireless the VPN will connect and then drop, usually every 30 to 60 seconds.  I have looked at the settings and can't see any that would make a difference.   Any suggestions on what might be happening and what I need to change on the settings?
    thanks

Maybe the wireless connection is not enough to handle wireless VPN connection. Try adjusting the wireless settings to improve the signal. Change the wireless channel under the 2.4 GHz to 6, 9, 11, and 1. And use 161 or 157 for the 5 GHz band.

  • Apple TV dropping WiFi connection every two minutes

    Hey there,
So I bought an Apple TV a couple days ago. Product looks great and looks absolutely gorgeous on the TV I have. My only problem (and its a HUGE problem) is that the device drops my WiFi every two minutes. Specifically when watching videos.
So in effect I cant stream any video - be it from YouTube, iTunes, NFL, Vimeo or even over AirPlay - because every time I do the signal drops and I'm thrown back to the main screen.
My WiFi pretty good. I have an iPhone, an iPad, two PC laptops and a Samsung smart phone that use the same network without any issues.
Please help me with this problem. I really really like the product but its practically useless with this issue.

Other devices working doesn't rule out a network issue.
Try connecting Apple TV via ethernet
Go to istumbler, netstumbler or similar to get a network report. Look for signal strength, noise, and nearby networks.

  • MiFi 4620LE dropping VPN Connection

I am currently having problems with our 4620LE Jetpacks which are deployed in the field.  After a few minutes of connection to our VPN the connection is dropped when using the 4620LE.  The VPN connection was tested on a wifi without having any drops.  Could this be due to the dormant status of the Mifi?  If so can the dormant feature be turned off?

VPN disconnections are common while connected to a MiFi.  VPN's by nature are picky on small drops that normally do not effect browsers or applications.  This is designed to stop external threats from tampering with your connection but end up being a real pain in the field for daily use.  I'd suggest looking into an Auto-Reconnect feature on your VPN's if you have one available to try and improve the user experience.
Try going through the usual reset steps (power cycle, pull the SIM, reset button under the back door) to see if the problem is temporary or not.  If the problem persists try traveling to a different area to determine if it is location based or isolated to the MiFi hardware.
Comparing WiFi to the MiFi is not really apples to apples.  The MiFi broadcasts its own WiFi signal as would any other wireless router.  Chances are your disconnections are not in the WiFi area, but instead are related to your MiFi's connection to Verizon.  I have seen many instances where a machine is freshly connected and starts to pull numerous updates that overwelm the connection and break the VPN tunnel.  The only work around is to try and connect somewhere else temporarily until the updates are done and then migrate back to the MiFi.
Dormancy is not a feature that you can manipulate, it is a status indicator for your connection.  All cellular devices go in and out of dormancy through out the day.  As soon as your MiFi sends data across or recieves data from the network it will update its dormancy status accordingly.

  • Losing ATT internet connection every hour. Help?

Just upgraded from old Airport to Time Capsule. Old network worked flawlessly for years.
My problem is now with Time Capsule I get disconnected from the internet every hour or so. After about 5 minutes the internet connection is automatically restored. (Or I can do a reboot of the modem to restore it quicker.)
I'm using ATT DLS service. Have a Speedstream 5100 modem.
Apple has replaced my Time Capsule, but the problem persists.
I reverted back to my old Airport network and the problem disappears.
Seems to be some type of incompatibility between Time Capsule and ATT.
I've been on the phone for hours with both ATT and Apple. Anybody out there have any thoughts???

I have a similar problem with a new TC 2TB unit. I have ATT ADSL service using a Speedstream modem. PPPoE is setup on the TC and it works and connects. All features of the TC are working (wi-fi, Back to My Mac, Time Machine, etc...) and the light is solid green on the TC.
Periodically, the LED blinks amber and I've lost Internet access. The Speedstream modem shows all green lights. I have found that power cycling the Speedstream modem brings the TC back to solid green after about 2 minutes.
I am seeing this happen about once a day and it can happen overnight when there is no network activity. I am thinking that the lease on the IP address given by ATT expires and the TC does not know enough to reinitiate a connection. I have set the PPPoE Connection to Always On and experienced the problem. I have also tried setting the Connection to Automatic and set the Disconnect if Idle setting to Never.

  • E1000 Drops All Connections Every 30-60 Minutes

I recently bought a refurbished E1000 wireless router from Amazon, and from the first day I've had recurring connection issues with it. Every half hour or so it will lose all of its connections (wireless and ethernet) and requires a hard reset. After resetting, all connections are good for a little while but then the problem occurs again. When plugged directly into my modem (Motorola SB6121), my internet access is completely fine.
The router has the latest firmware as far as I know (2.1.02 build 5 May 6, 2011), and I've tried to change several settings (MTU to 1400, Fragmentation Threshold to 2306, etc) but to no avail. Does anybody have any suggestions to help fix this issue? I'd be happy to supply more information if it helps.

You'll have to try and isolate the issue.  Could be the modem, could be your isp, or could be the linksys.
    http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Connectivity-and-Modem-Help/Having-issues-with-your-Motorola-SB6121-Ple...
If your motorola SB6121 breaks it's highspeed connection even for a moment, the modem will drop out of bridge and turn it's DHCP server on and mess things up.
You can ask your ISP to monitor/log your connection and see if anything is happening.

  • EA3500 dropping internet connection every 2 minutes

Hello!  I've recently purchased the EA3500 dual band wireless-N router to replace my old and somewhat tired WRT54GS.  The old router worked, I just decided to upgrade to wireless-N since all of my devices are now capable.
My ISP is Comcast and I use a Motorola SB 6120 cable modem.
After an extremely easy setup of the new router last week, I experienced one full day of glorious speedier network and internet traffic.  However, roughly 24 hours after installation I started experiencing intermittetent internet connectivity issues.  As in - the cable modem is accessible for 2 minutes and then can't be found for 2 minutes, repeat forever.
After multiple different troubleshooting steps, including rebooting both the modem and the router together, separately, and releasing and renewing the router's IP Address through the router's admin page, I finally ended up resetting the router back to factory defaults and letting Windows 7 guide me through the re-installation rather than using the provided "easy setup" CD from Cisco.
This seemed to have helped, but 2 days later, my "every 2 minutes" issue returned.
Something important to note here is that all of my devices - both wired and wireless - are able to communicate with each other without issue.  For example - while I have no access to the cable modem, I am able to stream music from a wired desktop through a wireless laptop to a wireless receiver connected to my TV.  I am also able to access the router's admin tools during my connectivity issues.
Has anyone here got some ideas for additional troubleshooting steps I can take?

There are many reasons why you experience poor signal or connection. Your slow throughput wireless connection has a relation to the kind of setup that you have in your home or office. Is the connection dropping on all wireless-N computers or just one?
Try to do the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1492 or less (usually found on your routers main/ basic setup page)
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • Dropping my connection every weekday evening

Hi all, looking for some help with my connection.
For the past hmm... it's been a while maybe eight weeks something like that, i've been losing my connection once between 21:00 and 22:00 it happens every night. It's often closer two nine, for a whole week running it was at exactly 21:14. Guessing something goes to pants during the peak and my connection needs to resync or something.
It doesn't appear to be repetative in that after it reconnects it doesn't seem to dissconnect until the next evening around the same time. I've had some success with rebooting my router during the evening hours and controlling the dissconnect but it's not largely effective.
I'm not hugely worrid about getting really fast speeds, but me and my wife game during the weekday evening hours and the dissconnect is hugely inconvieient to us and those we play with.
It's got to the point where we can no longer except it as something that just happens so i've come here for advice.
I've attached my routers current 'stats' below, it dropped out about 20 minutes ago and came up like this.
    Any advise would be great.

I've knocked off the faceplate and stuck my router into the master socket to see if that helps.  I don't have anything other than the homehub plug anyway but who knows. I've tried replacing my filter previously to see if that helps but didn't have any luck (I actually bought 5 from different suppliers to make sure!).
I'll post again in a couple of days and see if this has helped. Thanks again.

  • Iphone 3 drops wireless connection every 2 seconds, then reconnects, Iphone 4 works fine with same wireless

My wife has an iphone 3 running 4.2.1 (I think thats as high as it can go?) and every two seconds it drops the wireless connection, then reconnects for 2 seconds. I'm using Plusnet wireless and my iphone 4 connects fine to it. Anyone got any ideas?

If no change after resetting network settings on the iPhone and/or after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup and if the same with different wi-fi networks the iPhone has access to, there is a hardware problem with the wireless card or with something else.

  • 3G drops WiFi connection every 20 seconds

    Hi,
I'm debugging why a particular application I wrote myself won't work. The application basically creates a CFNetwork-based connection to the Mac over WiFi, and this used to work. I've recently updated to Mac 10.6.1 and iPhoneOS 3.0.1, and it no longer works. I see the following in my console log on the iPhone (which breaks the connection):

At that point, I get a "connection reset by peer" on my network connection, presumably becuse the en0 interface went down/up in this cycle. This happens every 20 seconds or so. What is going on here and how do I prevent my WiFi link from going down+up every 20 seconds?

I tried with another phone and that works fine - is my network card dead? Can I get that services?

  • Macbook Pro (15in) - 10.6.4 - Drops VPN Connection after 60 seconds

Just received the above machine, setting it up. I'm attached to our wireless network here at work, and that works perfectly.
I configured VPN and it connects... seemingly... ok. But after 60 seconds it tells me the VPN has disconnected. One thing, though... I have the checkbox selected to send all traffic over VPN, and during the 60 seconds of supposed connectivity... I can't get to any site thru the browser.
Then when VPN disconnects obviously the site comes right up in Safari.
    Anyone wrestle with this?

I keep on losing Internet Connection when connected through a Wireless connection. This happens with my Windows 7 PC's, with my iPhone4 and with my iPad2. The connection with the AE is kept alive but the passthrough to the Internet does not work anymore. I have to reset my wireless adapter to reconnect and rebuild my internet connection.

I do not want to go back to my good old Linksys...

  • Wifi drop every hour

Ok so I'm trying to play my ps4 off of the linksys AC1200 MAX wifi range extender (RE6500) and I keep getting a lost connection every hour at the same time. At first I thought it was a hardware problem only because the first day I used it I never dropped and it has amazing connection. Then the next day around 1:03 I dropped then it happened again at 2:03. This irritated me I took it back thinking it was a hardware issue. I got a new one and it's doing it again but now 12:56 then 1:56. Please help me fix this. I've tried other extenders such as netgear but they fail in comparison to the kind of connection I get using the RE6500.

Move the RE6500 in a little better signal location. The router and extender should see each other at around a 70% signal strength for dependable connection.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • BT Homehub 2 dropping connection every few minutes

Hi, my homehubs been working perfectly until today when it started dropping the connection every few minutes (ranging from 3 minutes up to 13). The broadband and phone lights go out then orange and then back to blue after about a minute.
Having browsed the forums etc Ive changed the location of the hub, changed channels, checked cabling and changed the microfilter.
Im now at a bit of a loss. The firmware is Version 8.1.H.J (Type A) and i notice that the firmware updated on todays date.
Im hoping someone has some ideas as im all out now.

I have the same problem friday afternoon at 4.30 to 11.30 at night the router reset itself every five minutes ....the prob first started in nov 2010 i have had 3 home engineer visits and finally we might be getting somwhere it looks like its caused by interferance on the line the phones fine its the broadband ,looking at the engineers meter it was running fine then all of a sudden it spikes erros 21,000 of them the router reboots and steadys again .......somthings causing line interferance it could be anything a pir on a security light ,a street lamp with a faulty timer ,there has even been a case where a car tyre garage has had its broadband removed by sombodys faulty tv .......
the engineer fitted a resistor box under the wall socket and ran the wires through it to the socket ...this is disigned to filter out certain frequencies of line pollution but not all ......it seems to be working its only shut down twice tonight and that could be the exchange mucking about as they are continuing to monitor the problem ......HOPING ....... oh he also removed the front of the wall socket and fitted me a dsl one with a separate phone socket hence doing away with the dsl filter ......................

  • AEBS Dropping Internet Connection q 45 minutes

I have the new airport extreme base station. I bought it January and it has worked flawlessly for the past 6 months. recently, in the past week or so, I began getting a dropped internet connection happening every 45 minutes or so.
    About my set up:
Cable modem supplying connection to AEBS via ethernet. VOIP box connected to AEBS via ethernet getting internet connection from AEBS. Playstation 3 connected via ethernet to AEBS. Airport Express base station linked to airport extreme base station wirelessly (of course) to share printer connection via USB. iBook G4 1.2ghz running Mac OSX 10.4.9
    Trouble Shooting.
Originally I would unplug the cable modem for 30 seconds and plug it back in. This would reset the connection and i would have service again for 45 minutes. I decided to test whether or not it was the router or modem that was kicking me so I unplugged the ethernet cable coming from the modem to the AEBS and plugged it directly into my computer and turned off my airport connection, essentially hardwiring the ibook directly to the modem. I got kicked off again. At this point i drew the conclusion that it was the modem and contacted my cable company. After a bunch phone conversations that essentially accomplished nothing, they sent a tech out to my house. He replaced my old (3 years) cable with a brand new one to test out. I left my computer wired directly via ethernet to the new modem and this time DID NOT receive any drops in connection over a period of 4 hours. I reconnected the ethernet cable from the modem to the AEBS and reset my connection and decided to test out wireless. It dropped me again in 45 minutes. I left the cable modem connected to the AEBS via ethernet and unplugged the ethernet cable coming out of the AEBS that gos to my VOIP box and plugged my computer into the AEBS via ethernet and disconnected from airport on my computer. I was again dropped in 45 minutes. I reset my modem and unplugged the ethernet cable coming out of AEBS that gos to my Playstation 3. Again I was dropped within 45 minutes. After that, I reconnected both the PS3 and VOIP box ethernet cables and unplugged my computers ethernet cable from the AEBS and have just been using the wireless connection and resetting the modem every 45 minutes when it drops. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention that I plugged the Playstation 3 directly into the cable modem via ethernet and played online for 4 hours without interruption/disconnect. Anyways, I am back to square one. I believe based on the evidence above that the problem lies within the Airport Extreme base station router some how, but I have no idea what the problem is.
What happens when my connection is dropped:
I can be doing anything from using an instant messaging service to trying to load a web page using firefox or safari. Basically the page fails to load, i get a message saying it can't find the server. Usually at this point I will open up network utility and try to ping yahoo.com. It doesn't ping and says it can't find the server. I go to the modem and unplug the power for 30 seconds and replug it back in. As soon as everything back up I have my connection back.
    What the cable company did:
They looked at their connections, including the fiber optic node for the area. They did not find any outages or problems within their system. They plugged my coxial cable into a modem/tester box (not sure exactly what it was) to evaluate signal received via coxial cable which they said was working properly. they checked my cable connection from house to street and didn't find any compromises in the wire/cable.
I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware for my AEBS. I am out of ideas. Can anyone help?

I had the same problem earlier this year with my cable carrier. At first I thought it was the modem so I replaced the Dlink with an Apple Extreme and it still kept happening. After some research on MacInTouch I found that using an earlier version of the base station software made the problem go away. So I never updated and all was well with the world. Till last week and now like you I am dropping connections every hour or so no matter what application I am running or what site I am on the internet.
A friendly tech admitted to me that there was a problem with the way the modem communicates with the provider and that they were aware of the problem but that there was nothing he could do to help me.
That is when I cured the problem temporarily by using the base station software from 2004. If I find an answer to the return of the problem I will post it. Please let me know if you find a solution.
