WRTP54G

My security key will not work anymore, and the wireless wont let me access. linlsys wants to charge me 29 bucks for the fix. Can anyone tell me how to reset the key phrase?

Don't reset the Security Key, you should try to delete all the wireless profiles on your wireless computer and attempt to re-connect...
Assuming you have winxp click on Start and goto the Control Panel and double click on Network Connections, right click on Wireless Network Connection and click on Properties.
Now on this window, click on the second tab Wireless Network and give a check mark on "Use windows to configure my wireless" and then remove all the network names present in the Preferred Networks Window. Then click on OK...
Right click on the Wireless Network Connection again and click on View Available Wireless Networks and try to re-connect to your network...
Now it will give you the opportunity to put the network/wep key, make sure you enter the correct network key and confirm it...
It will connect...

  • WRTP54G Network Cable Unplugged Error

I have a WRTP54G (router with 2 Vonage phone ports).  The phone works just fine.  However, every few minutes the PC displays a "network cable is unplugged" error message and I am unable to access the Internet.  After a few seconds, the error goes away, and everything works fine for a few minutes.  I have changed the network cable, used another computer, and I get the same results.  Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

I appreciate your response, but how will that help?  I've rebooted all the equipment involved (modem, router, computer) more than once and it hasn't improved things.  The computer continues to cycle between showing the network cable unplugged message and everything working fine.

  • Linksys WRTP54G DNS issue

I have reviewed and tried HOURS of suggestions on this site regarding WI-FI DNS issue ie. "can't find the server" message. This appears to be Router model problem/resolution. Does anyone know the specific fix to get the ITouch to work with an linksys WRTP54G Router. General comments and fixes are not needed, only the one specific for this router. Thanks.

Don't give up on the iPod Touch. It's one of the most remarkable devices ever invented.
Your router routes IP traffic. That's all you need. Your iPod should work with any router. Somewhere, there a configuration setting that is not right.
There is one other possibility, and that's that your ISP is doing something funny like using a proxy server. Unlikely but possible.
You need to attack this systematically. Like has been suggested, narrow down if it is a connectivity or a DNS issue. If you can get to a site by its IP address, then you have a DNS issue. If you cannot, then it is something set wrong elsewhere.
    Possibilities:
    - MAC filtering (you have ruled this out)
    - Encryption (you have ruled this out)
    - Is your router not giving out enough IP addresses? If you set the limit to 2 and you have 3 computers, someone will lose out.
    - Is your router correctly picking up its settings from your ISP (DHCP), or have you hardcoded some or all of it? Does your (working) PC have some of the missing bits hardcoded - for example, if your router doesn't have its DNS settings, but your IP settings on the PC have them hardcoded, the PC will work, but the iPod won't - unless of course you hard code them on the iPod as well
    - Have you inadvertently coded something into your router like a static route, a filter, , or configured a DMZ that is conflicting with the DHCP address that your iPod is getting?
    - Have you (or someone in your house) configured some access restrictions on the router, maybe for another PC in the house, like a child's PC?
If all of this is confusing, or something is really screwed up, you could always start form scratch, as if you just bought the router. There is a way to reset it to factory defaults (I believe holding the hidden reset button for a long time), then set it up correctly for your ISP again, and it should work for all computers, iPods, etc.
There is always the possibility that the Vonage firmware is somehow interfering. Do you use the Vonage features? You could always put in a more standard firmware.
Bottom line, it is far more likely that this is a setting on your router than the fault of the iPod. The iPod is just an every day IP device, and should work with just about everything. Do not give up on the iPod.

  • Clearwire's CLEAR connecting to WRTP54G

I've been a Clearwire customer for years, and have had no problems with their modem and the WRTP54G working with each other.  Today I got my new CLEAR WiMAX modem and now the WRTP54G will not connect.  When I plug directly into the modem all is well, when I plug the router in, I get plenty of signal and it appears to login just fine, but I can't get out on the internet.  Are there new settings for the router now that I have the new modem?

As you have changed the modem, you need to reconfigure the router as per the ISP settings...Connect the modem to the router on internet port and the computer to the router on ethernet port.login to the linksys GUI and configure it.Check this link.

  • WAN port without DHCP/NAT on WRTP54G

(Sorry if this issue was already discussed - I couldn't find it using Advanced Search) I find that my new WRTP54G works fine, supporting VoIP and several PC clients via its LAN switch, providing I enable its DHCP and NAT function. This is with the DSL modem connected to the WRTP54G's WAN port, as required for the VoIP module to access the internet. However, this configuration (the factory default) results in "double NAT" when used with my DSL modem. (This situation is evident by inspecting the HTML status screens of the respective equipments.) The obvious solution would be simply to disable DHCP and NAT in the WRTP54G and let the DSL modem do the hard work. However, disabling DHCP/NAT within the WRTP54G essentially shuts down all PC client access to the internet. The symptoms resemble a situation where packets are not being properly routed between the WRTP54G's LAN switch side and its WAN port (although I don't know whether that is the precise cause or not). On my previous WRT54G router used with a PAP2T, I saw the same behavior but the workaround was simple: move the DSL modem Ethernet port connection from the WRT54G WAN port to one of its LAN switch ports. Problem solved at the expense of occupying one of the four available LAN switch ports. Such workaround is not applicable to the WRTP54G due to the previously mentioned requirement of its VoIP module. Has anyone got their WRTP54G (or for that matter, WRT54G) working properly with its WAN port as a simple (non-DHCP/NAT) router? Please note my preferred Internet Connection Type (on the WRTP54G opening Setup page) is "Obtain an IP automatically" although a solution using "Static IP" would be OK. I am looking for a portable solution (for hotel rooms etc.), so I can't set the WRTP54G to "PPPoE" as suggested in some other forums. Thanks in advance for any help!

Use the Modem connected to WAN Port of the wireless router ....
In such case you can use the DHCP of the router also & other computers using the client services can work .....
Make sure that the Ip address should not conflict between the Vonage router & Linksys router .....
I think that Vonage is giving Ip - 192.168.15.1 ...& the default Ip for Linksys router is 192.168.15.1 ..... change the Ip for any of the router or modem to 192.168.20.1 .....
Also under Linksys router once you open the setup page ....
Leave the Internet Connection type to "Obtain an Ip automatically"
    Click "MAC address clone"
    Click enable & click clone
    Click save settings ....
See if you are able to go online or not ....

  • WRTP54G not communicating with wireless camera

I am trying to set up a Hawking HNC230G wireless camera to my network. The initial setup involves a wired connection between the camera and WRTP54G. The camera works fine when connected by wire, but is not recognized on the wireless network. The SSID, Channel, Security Method and Security Key are all set properly, but WRTP54G won't allow a wireless connection. I've exhausted the capability of the Hawking tech service folks. They say everything is set properly from their standpoint. What is the solution?

If you know your SSID, Channel, Security Method and Security Key and if you have Wireless Internet on any wireless computer/laptop then I would assume your router is setup properly...
You have to ensure that the Wireless Settings on your Router and Camera are identical(SSID and Network Key, both are case sensitive)...Also your Camera should be assigned a static ip address in the router's subnet...After you have configured your Camera don't forget to Power Cycle both the devices...
If it does not work, try to upgrade your Router's firmware and see if that makes any difference...

  • VoIP providers for WRTP54G

Other than Vonage, will any other VoIP providers work with the WRTP54G router?
Message Edited by steve1970 on 05-23-200702:49 PM

Sorry if the original question was not clear.
As it stand now, if your WRTP54G is designated to be used with the Vonage service, you cannot use it with any other VOIP service. Same goes with Earthlink. If you buy the WRTP54G router specifically designated to be used with Earthlink's TrueVoice, you cannot use it with any other VOIP service. As far as I know, they make three routers - one for Vonage, one for Earthlink, and one labeled "WRTP54G-NA" for basically all the other VOIP services.
However.... If you are computer savvy, you can attempt to "re-flash" the firmware with the NA firmware. There are some sites who have documented the process. This will most likely void your warranty, so use at your own risk.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • Wireless Works, Ethernet Does Not Work WRTP54G

My WRTP54G works great via wireless, but the ethernet does not connect to either my Mac (10.5.3) or my Windows XP machine. The Mac is the primary computer connected to our home network and is right next to the router, so it seems dumb to have to connect the Mac and the router via wireless. I am hoping for a faster connection for the Mac to the internet via ethernet
The WRTP54G has firmware version 1.00.62 loaded on it, although I am not certain how to upgrade the firmware to at least 1.00.9 (seems that any later firmware causes problems with Macs)
I noticed that the Wireless Firmware Version (Status - Wireless) is 1.6.0.24. Not sure if that matters.
I have attempted to use three different CAT5 cables between the Mac/Win and the router, so I believe bad cabling is ruled out. My Win machine's ethernet works perfect at work, so I believe ethernet hardware on both can be ruled out.
I have tried to reset the router to factory default -- no dice. Any thoughts, anybody?

As a follow-up to provide additional symptoms:
I also have an XBox 360 and a Mac Book connected wireless. I have not attempted to connect those devices via ethernet.
I also have Vonage; there is no disruption in service there -- that wired connection seems to be working fine.
I am also experiencing that each device connected via wireless, except the Win XP machine, will randomly lose wireless connectivity. The SSID broadcast is disabled and I have not enabled WEP. Not sure if that matters. Client lease time is set to 9999, not the default 0 for one day.
When I plug the Mac or the Win machine to the router's ethernet ports (any one of the four), the router's ethernet lights do not light up. Is it possible the ethernet components are fried?
I purchased the router two years ago when I enabled the Vonage service.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

  • Best Connection For WRTP54G and SA2102?

I can not find details on the best install for the subject router and router/voice adapter.  I have been having trouble with my voicemail on VOIP.com.  Periodically, I have voicemail but there is no stutter tone or message light.  I thought it maybe best to put the SA2102 in front of the wireless router but I could not get connectivity to my PC then.  Therefore, I am currently running the SA2102 after the WRTP54G.  Everything works except this periodic voicemail problem.  I have contacted Linksys and VOIP.com but got no help.  I was wondering:
    1.  What is the best install hookup configuration?
    2.  In either case, what actions (configuration settings) if any should I take (make) on my adapter or wireless router?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mike

i'm confused why you need 2 VoIP routers (SPA2102, WRTP54G) unless you just made a typo error and meant WRT54G instead
anyway, I would presume that SPA2102 is the one configured with your VoIP providers' settings.  best way to get VoIP to work properly is if the SPA is connected to the modem really...you can set the wireless router to act just as a plain access point to avoid "double NAT"...
--disconnect the wireless router from everything in your network and hardwire just one computer to port 1 of wireless router..under Setup-Advanced Routing subtab disable Firewall & NAT (don't forget to save the settings)
--go back to Basic Setup subtab and disable Local DHCP server (after saving settings it's very likely that you will lose connection to the router's web interface)
--connect an ethernet cable to the Ethernet port of SPA2102 and Port 4 of WRTP54G (nothing will be connected to the Internet port on the wireless)
-- power cycle all devices and the computer should have internet access again
** if you want to access the web interface of the wireless again you would need to set a static IP on your computer like 192.168.15.6 (assuming the LAN IP address of the router is still 192.168.15.1)
**if want easy access to the wireless router without setting static IP you can change the LAN IP address of the wireless router with an IP that is the same range as the DHCP of SPA2102

  • "Unidentified Network" -local access -- when connecting vista 64 bit to WRTP54G router

Windows Vista will not connect to wrtp54g router (9 outta 10 times). States that it is an "Unidentified  Network", and i have no access to the internet, or xbox 360. I cannot enter the router settings either
There is no problem connecting directly to the modem and then the internet.
Device manager shows no problems with Nvidia network controller.  Xp Pro had no issues connecting to internet or home network.
I reset the router, no help.  ipconig/release  then- renew -- no help.    (vista has all updates),  Firewall on / off-- no difference
tried another wrtp54g -- same problem
    Please Help ?

I got into the interface -- turned off firewall-- allowed local network, but no internet--so no use.  I dont have a wireless card in my desktop -- so didnt connect wirelessly.  Have xbox 360 running on wired connection also -- it has always connect without problems.  No changes in interface cured the problem.
I did try the registry entry fix, givin in another help window - supplied by microsoft-- called "Windows Vista cannot obtain an ip address from certain routers or from certain non-microsoft DHCP servers". (Article ID :928233 - link  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233)--- have rebooted 3 times and has connected and recognized the router every time. Crossing my fingers that its a permanent fix.
Hopes that helps others out there

  • RTP300 used only as a access point on LAN with WRTP54G

I have the RTP300 which I want to use as an access point for my wireless laptop to my working WRTP54G LAN. The LAN has 2 servers with 4 USB printers that I need to use from the AP. The LAN is on 192.168.40.xxx but when I put the AP there everything shuts down. Any suggestions on the setup. If I seperate the AP to 192.168.30.1 it works to the internet but no LAN use.

  • WRT54G v8 & WRTP54G & WRT54GC & WGA54G & Multiple Home Networks

Normally, I am able to figure things out for myself but, over the past week, I have spent countless hours on my home/office network and I am at my wits end.
As you can see by the title, I am fond of Linksys! Even given all my issues, I will remain loyal....I am sure this is operator error and not hardware related.
Over a week ago, I started having network issues. Dropping signal, fluctuating signal and losing connection totally. I thought someone had reset something or the cable modem went out but, after many hours of trial and error, I believe my WRT54GC gave out on me.
I was using this travel router, or compact router as my "main network" router. The WRTP54G was connected under the house via a long ethernet cable to the WRT54GC providing me two wireless networks at home, which I do need for a variety of reasons. The ethernet cable is plugged or was plugged directly into the WAN port of the WRTP54G and however I had it set up before, worked perfectly!
Problem is, I cant recall how I ended up configuring everything! The only thing connected to the WRTP54G router 100% of the time is a slingbox which needs a Static IP of 192.168.15.237. At other times, the wife and kids plug their computers into it when playing or she is teaching them things requiring a internet connection.
The WGA54G is in my living room serving as a wireless connection for another slingbox and connects to the network that the WRT54GC provide(d) with an ip of 192.168.1.238. Now, on this one, I DO recall how I set it up..problem is now, I am having issues keeping it connected....or even getting it connected. I did have it connected yesterday for awhile but, it failed like everything else has over the last week.
Today, I decided to replace the WRT54GC with a WRT54G v8. Came home, hooked everything up the way I THOUGHT I recall setting it up and of course it did not work correctly. Wireless adapter will not connect and the ONLY way I can get the WRTP54G to work is set it up as an access point and let the WRT54G assign it an ip. In other words, I made the router a "switch" by disabling the DHCP server and giving the router a local ip of 192.168.1.250.
I am not a networking specialist but, I manage to usually figure out my mess...this time, its beyond my control and after a week, I need some fresh input.
I basically need some advice on how to set these things back up, hopefully with 2 wireless networks and get it working. I am so confused right now, I do not know what end is up.
In closing, the WRT54G will be my main router. Hooked to it are a ViaTalk adapter, my main desktop, the cable to the other router and one available port for future use.
The WRTP54G will be on a different network with a SB attached, wireless available and the other 3 ports available for the wife and kids.
The SB in the living room will connect to the WRT54G via the WGA54G and the WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE! : )
This is probably childs play for a lot of you but, I assure you, I have done all I know to do and cant remember half what I have done!
Help appreciated, needed and I will thank any and all ahead of time!

hi....let me know the isp details whether cable or DSL .... also , when the wrt54gc is connected to the modem , access its web ui .. go to the "status" tab and check the "internet ip add" .. change the wireless settings , channel - either 1 or 11 , beacon interval - 50 , Fragmentation threshold - 2306 , RTS threshold - 2307 ..
if online through this router .. connect the ethernet cable from its LAN port to the WAN port of the WRTP54G .. check whether it works or not ..

  • WRTP54G Intermittent Connection Issues

Well I've had a WRTP54G router for a month and a half after the old one died. This one has been performing great once I got the firmware upgraded to the latest Vonage version. Well, today that changed. On all the machines on my network the 'LAN cable unplugged' window keeps popping up every 5-15 seconds. It then reconnects and then goes 'unplugged' again. Of course I tried power cycling modem and router. Of course I tried resetting the router to factory defaults. Neither was any help. I also tried connecting a system directly the modem. It was stable for more than an hour. As soon as I put the router back in the loop, I go back to the limited connection. I also tried the wireless connections and I was never able to get connected but I did see the network appear and disappear as I refresh the 'available wireless networks' so I assume it has the same symptoms as the wired connections. Any ideas? I've sat on hold for 2.5 hours now in two calls to Linksys support (first time I got disconnected in a transfer). I'm not sure if it's something that CAN be fixed, or if I just lost my second of these two routers in two months to a hardware failure. Help!

I'm having similar problems with my WRTP54G .. the problems have been occurring for over a year and have persisted through the migration to firmware 1.00.62 ... I have never had telephone/Vonage issues .. the only setup changes I have made are to disable wireless (don't use it) and to prioritize the telephone under "Applications and Gaming"/Quality_of_Service for ports 256 and 512 .. the problems I have been having with both Windows XP and Windows Vista computers is that they will report no internet connection/unplugged cable? at startup or after awakening from hibernation... I can only get connected by either resetting the router via the reset switch or by moving my ethernet cables to a new port... if I move my cable I get an "active" light on the router and I regain access... I know these routers have seriously bad firmware problems related to gaming and downloading sites... I use neither... how do I clear buffers/memory etc. to get this silly thing to work correctly?

  • WRTP54G Performance Poor

I recently began having trouble with the performance of my wireless WRTP54G router. When it is  connected to my desktop, through the router, it is extremely slow. When I am connecting through my wirelesss (Macbook), it is slow and intermittent. Often times the signal is low. I am constantly having to reset the router, which helps with the Macbook, but the desktop remains slow. When the desktop is plugged directly into the modem, it runs perfectly fine.
I downloaded the file from the website, but I am unsure as to what to do next, in order to trouble shoot this further. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This sounds to be a firmware problem, you need to upgrade your router's firmware...Firmware should be Upgraded by your VOIP Providor as there is no Upgrade option on the router's web interface...

  • WRTP54G Losing connection constantly

    Background:
    I have a WRTP54G Vonage router (firmware 1.00.62)
my ISP is current communications (a power line ISP)
I use the wireless connection with 2 laptops from work that use a VPN connection
I use the standard Vonage service on the phone port 1
Just yesterday, out of the blue, my vonage wireless router went haywire.  Currently, I can get a wireless or wired connection.  Then after about a minute, it loses the connection.  Then, it'll "cycle" back and reconnect.  Meanwhile, the phone part of the router is not provisioning (probably because of the sporadic connection).
What I do know:  The connection at the ISP power modem is clean - if I connect to it directly, the connection is clean and constant.  When I connect the WRTP54G, and connect my laptop to it (wired or wirelessly) the strange behavior happens.  No settings were changed prior to this occuring and lastly, I completely unplugged everything last night and this morning it seemed to power up fine.
What I suspect, my wife tried to use her laptop to connect via VPN to work and somehow that triggered the problem.  However, once the problem started, if I connect my laptop but not use VPN, the problem still occurs.  I did see one posting and reply regarding VPN and port forwarding (not sure what that means) but puzzled as to why this problem would crop up now after almost a year of using the router in the same setup.  Is the VPN causing all this problem and if so, is a power reset (> 1 minute) the best way to get the router back to "normal"?  Other ideas on what's causing this and is the best course to replace or can this be fixed via settings or firmware?  Thanks!
