WRTSL54GS - Internet suddenly unavailable (internet light also out)

Accessing the internet through my router no longer works. I've tried connecting my computer directly to the cable modem, and the internet works fine (as I am using it right now to write this message). I use the same cable (as well as other ethernet cables) from the router's internet port, to my cable modem's ethernet port... nothing. The internet light on the router does not light up, and the PC link light on my cable modem stays dark. Ports 3 and 4 on the router also seem effected. Anything plugged into these ports do not give a link light. Ports 1 and 2 seem fine. I've tried the usual... power cycling both router and cable modem... reset the router to factory settings... reinstalled firmware... unplug the router for an hour.. etc. ...and I'm still having an issue.
Side note: There is a USB light on the modem that is on... I'm not sure if this has always been on during normal operation, but there is nothing plugged into the USB port on the router.
Side note 2: I've plugged the ethernet cable from the cable modem into ports 1 and 2 of the router, and I do get link lights and activity. ...but when I plug it into the correct 'internet' port on the router, no light.
There have been no changes to my router before this. I checked my email last night before I went to bed. I wake up in the morning, and I have no internet (through the router). No one else has access to my router. I even disable the wireless connection when it's not in use. As I said before, my internet (comcast) is working perfectly without the router.
Any suggestions? I've had no problems with the router up until now.
Thanks.

I made a mistake. I meant to say, the USB light is lit on the *router*... not the modem.
Also, I did a bit more troubleshooting. I plugged one ethernet cable into both ports 3 and 4, and router shows a connection as both link lights are lit on the router. I tried the same ethernet cable in ports 4 and 2, 4 and 1, 4 and 'internet' with no link lights lit at all. I'm beginning to think my router was somehow fried. No idea what could have caused it. I guess it's defective... but since it's been 4 months, I'm sure all warranties have expired. =(
Any other suggestions?

  • Internet light not lit, tech support not helping, PPP Down?

Hey guys, I have a problem. I just ordered Verizon's HSI and yesterday was my service ready date. I receieved  a call saying that my service was ready, except it's not working at all.
I spent a majority of yesterday evening on the phone with tech support, which seemed like they were clueless and not helping. here's my problem.
I have a Westell 7500 modem/router. The DSL light is a solid green, however the Internet light is out. It's not red or green, just unlit. I logged into the router settings and i see this big warning: Gateway is not ready for internet connection. Well, that's no good. It also says DSL Connected, but PPP down.
I went into the connections of the router settings and I changed the login information to my verizon account information, but that didn't seem to do anything. It still says the PPP status is down.
No matter what I do, I am not connected to the internet it seems. I talked to a represenative on the phone and he said that the problem is on Verizon's end, but he seemed kind of confused so I don't know if he really knows what he was talking about.
I'm not really a happy camper with the service so far, so I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. God forbid I switch to Comcast and their lousy bandwidth cap, but if this isn't resolved soon I may have to resort to that.
Or if there is a tier 3 DSL support number with professionals, i would LOVE to have that.

Thanks for the replies. I have spoken with tech support but I really don't think they know what to do. Each time they just tell me to "go to the router setting and click connect. Oh it's not working? Well... I'll call back tomorrow. It will work tomorrow"
They're supposed to call me back "within 24-48 hours" with good news that my internet will suddenly be working. I'm not going to hold my breath. I'll update with any news as I'm sure i'm not the only one going through this.

  • Router drops 2nd night in a row, internet light is amber! Also I need a tech to upgrade to 50/20??

I called yesterday to troubleshoot my internet, it turns out that the ont needed to be reset.  I decided while I was on the phone, to inquire about upgrading my service.  I told them I wanted 50/20 so they started to provision my line only to find out I would need a tech to roll out to perform the upgrade.  At that point, I decided to just upgrade to 35/35 because I didnt want to deal with the hassle of having a a tech roll out to my house.  Why is it that I would need a tech to upgrade to 50./20?? Kinda **bleep** about that.. because that high upload for a residential service with no static ip is retarded.
Also this morning I wake up to see my internet light is amber but my power/wan coax/lan coax lights are green?? Whats the deal??
Im starting to regret making the switch to fios..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Let me tell you something, my friend contacted fios tech support via chat because he had problems with
internet connection and speed, the fios live tech contacted some kind of  network group and they fix the problem,
Just make sure you checked everything on your side,in your case you already checked your router, but do not
forget cables and splitter (if you have),
if you unplug and reconnect your cables and the splitter is ok, will be time to contact fios tech support.
    Good Luck!

  • Westell 6100 modem ... No "Internet" light at all

One minute the Internet worked, the next it booted me off and didn't.
So after reading a lot of forum posts ....
My Westell Modem "Internet Light" is off.
My modem is dated from 2006
    I can connect to 192.168.1.1.
"Connection Status" on Westell site says "down"
    All cords check out OK
One landline in house, filter installed properly.
Rebooted all devices & computer more than a dozem times.

Also just upgraded from regular DSL to High Speed Internet ... not sure if the order has been processed yet.

  • Internet connection dropping out throughout day; problem NOT with provider

My computer's connection to the Airport Express base station has no problems at all. But the internet connection goes out literally dozens of times a day (at no predictable schedule); this has been happening for almost a month. I originally thought the problem was with the internet provider, but I'm now beginning to think that either my settings are wrong, or that I have a corrupt file somewhere. Here are the details:
I connect via a cable modem (Time Warner - Road Runner). I know people have had problems with Time Warner, so I assumed that was the issue; however I've had 3 service calls and they've checked signal strength inside and out, and swapped out the modem and the cables. I don't think it is simply problems in our geographic area (i.e. greater Los Angeles) due to the fact that the Internet fails sometimes 40-50 times daily, and the problem began when I upgraded from an old Airport base station to a brand new Airport Express about a month ago.
The airport/internet connection is shared 3 ways: two MacBook Pro computers and one iPhone. My Airport's internet settings are as follows:
    Configure IPv4 using DHCP.
DNS Servers: 66.75.160.63 and 66.75.160.64 (note I have already tried swapping these for OpenDNS -- this did NOT solve the problem)
    Domain name: socal.rr.com
    DHCP Client ID: [blank]
    Ethernet WAN port: Default-Automatic
Connection Sharing: Share a Public IP address
    DHCP Beginning Address: 10.0.1.2
    Ending Address: 10.0.1.200
    DHCP Lease: 4 hours
    NAT settings are all unchecked
One of the main reasons I believe that the problem is with my computer's settings or a corrupt file is that I can fix the problem whenever the Internet "goes down" almost 100% of the time by doing the following: after loading Airport Utility, I make ANY trivial change (i.e. changing the DHCP lease from 4 hours to 5 hours) and then click UPDATE to refresh the Airport base station. This fixes the problem almost 100% of the time. But then, anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours later, the Internet connection goes down again. [Unplugging the power from the modem, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging it back in ALSO fixes the problem almost 100% of the time, until it goes out again a little while later.]
Also, I have tried disconnecting Airport and connecting directly to the cable modem via Ethernet. The problem remains exactly the same -- I can connect, but then the connection fails soon after. Unplugging then replugging the modem fixes the problem temporarily. So I do not think the problem is a defective Airport base station, nor do I think it is the modem (which has been replaced), nor Time Warner.
I can't think of what else to try -- but any advice would be greatly appreciated -- it's impossible for us to work with the Internet constantly going out throughout the day, every day.
    Thank you!

  • WRT1900ac internet connectivity problem, internet light blinking white!!!!?

So my wrt1900ac has been blinking white starting tonight. I logged into the router and did a router reboot. That didnt work, then I rebooted my modem still didnt work.
After all that I did a factory reset to my wrt1900ac which was a big mistake cause now my wrt1900ac WILL NOT set back up. It keeps getting stuck on detecting internet.
So I did a factory reset on my modem which is c1000a, and after the factory reset my modem works fine connects to wifi no problem what so ever. I put my modem back into transparent bridge mode, and tried to re-setup my router. Once again the wrt1900ac internet light just blinks white and will not connect even though my modem works perfectly fine can someone help me out please??
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Disconnect the router from the modem and login via IP Address 192.168.1.1. If you can't check the gateway address of the IP address your router gives your device. The default gateway is the router ip address. It can change if the router detects an IP address conflict.

  • Wrt54gs all seems good cept internet light will not light or flash and no connection

Got a WRT54GS router. # months old. I have it hooked up to comcast. This evening . I found no net when I turned on pc. I have comcast phone and net service. So My modem also handles phone calls aswell.  On my cable modem there is a link light with is normaly flashing. When I got home my link light was dark. None of my pcs or consoles could get on the internet. I found all the lights on my router on cept the internet light. I called comcast and they verified it was my routeri I hooked this pc strait to modem and all worked fine. This is how im posting now. Ive tried newest firmware and multiple manual resets on router. I get everything but the internet light.<Internet light does not come at all.> Ilso get no net when hooked to router. If I use modem alone all is fine.
    Im hooking up an
    XBOX360
    PS3
    PC
    Wirelessly WII
    Wirelessly PSP
    Wirelessly Laptop.
My Router is WRT54 GS with latest firmware just installed. Please help me if you can All my lights come on as normal cept the internet light. And my cable modem dosent get a link from the router at all. If I hook pc direct to modem again all is ok. Its not my provider.
    Thank you.

Since the "internet" light is not coming on , i'd say that it may be a problem with the "cable" you are using between the modem and the router....if the cable is good....try this....take one CAT5 cable and plug one end into the one of the LAN ports and the other end into the internet port of the router.....check if the internet light turns on...in case it does , try connecting a "hub" between the modem and the router..... let me know what happens

  • Internet light turns briefly yellow on Airport Utility

My configuration - Draytek Vigor 120 connected to my ADSL line, connected to Airport Extreme 802.11n.
On Airport Utility both lights - Internet and Airport Extreme green.
The Internet light frequently turns yellow - for 10-30 seconds and than green again all the time. The Airport light stays all the time green.
When yellow and shortly afterwards - no internet connection.
Is the Draytek modem failing? Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tonden

Either the connection is being lost between your Internet connection and the Draytek Vigor 120......or......the connection is being lost between the Draytek Vigor 120 and the AirPort Extreme.
One way that you can find out as a test.....if you can set up a PPPoE connection on your computer and then connect the computer directly to the Draytek Vigor 120 and let things run for a few days......the connection will either remain stable (so you know the Draytek Vigor 120 is working correctly).....or....the connection difficulties will continue (so you know that you likely have a defective Draytek Vigor modem).

Hello,I do not have the same modem in front of me, so you may get a specific suggestion from another of the team.In the meanwhile, you should do some basic fault finding. Firstly, re-boot your modem with about 3 minutes switched off.Is you home phone working?    Is it crackly in the background? You may have to ring technical support on 133 933 and they will usually have you do an isolation test to determine if the problem is because of an issues within your premises. Here is a link to do the Telstra Isolation Test:https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/General-Internet-KB/How-to-perform-an-Isolation-Test/ta-p/55014 Also check that if there is an outage in your area   http://servicestatus.telstra.com/Hope that helps.

  • Cannot update to latest software. error message states internet connection timed out

Does anyone have a similar problem? I cannot update to the latest software for my I Phone 4. The error message says, internet connection timed out. Which is obviously has not. It also says check your internet settings. I am not sure what that means. I have windows 7.

If the disabling the firewall doesnt help, then also try disabling your anti-virus, this was what was causing me an issue.
Although make sure you re-enable both your firewall and anti-virus after the update completes.

  • Lost Connectivity (No Internet Light)

Just set up the "Up to 1M Dry Loop Annual Plan" and am leasing the Westell 6100 Gateway. My service was activated three days ago. Everything was fine for about 48 hours -- the primary computer (involved in setup) and three other laptops (via a wireless connection) all suffered no connectivity or speed issues.
Then, last night, I notice the "Internet" light is no longer lit. It is neither green nor red. Just unlit. All other requisite lights (DSL, Power, Ethernet) are green. However, I receive errors on the browser pages I attempt to open, suggesting that the “page cannot be found.”  All other laptops recognize my wireless network and claim to have excellent connections, respectively, but none can connect to the Internet.
Any advice? I’m restarted the modem and the computers several times with no luck.

UPDATE: Ran through diagnostics and troubleshooting with Veirzon phone support. Technician will be out to the apartment tomorrow. I will let you guys know how it turns out.
