WRTU54G-TM behind a WRT54G

I like the way my WRT54G performs and it makes me a little nervious that the WRTU54G-TM has such new firmware. If it's not clear already from the model number, I'm using the TM Router for their @home service.
I followed the instructions in the Linksys manual and it told me to connect the T-mobile router from one of the ports on the WRT54G into the WAN port on the WRTU54G-TM (which seemed kind of weird). I left it on automatic DHCP and turned off the firewall.
In this configuration the SIM card never would register (and the blue light wouldn't come on); however in the product review at engadget, this is the way they configured it.
Are there any ports I need to forward to make this work? Does the WRTU54G-TM have to be the router/firewall that connects to the modem?

Do you know where I can find the list of the ports I need to forward? I really don't like the way the WRTU54G-TM runs as a router and I'd rather have my WRT54G or my linux box on top.

  • What ports do I open for a WRTU54G-TM off my WRT54G running DD-WRT?

I've grown weary of having a flakey internet connection with my WRTU54G resulting in having to power cycle it often.  I am going to install my WRT54G running DD-WRT as my primary router and hang the WRTU54G-TM off of it.  I'm hoping if all the WRTU54G is doing is the VOIP, then everything will be much more stable.
Can someone tell me what I need to do on DD-WRT to allow the WRTU54G to work?  How about the QoS settings for VOIP?
    TIA,
    Dave

Try to open ports 5060-5061, 16384-16482 on your dd-wrt if the wrtu54g-tm is behind it to allow the voip traffic to passthrough. You can give priority to the port where the wrtu54g-tm is connected to for qos.

  • Using port 22 behind a wrt54g

I have a wrt54g and despite turning off the firewall and setting port triggering and using the dmz I have been unable to use sftp (port 22) behind the router. I can access it fine if I hook direct to my modem. Any help would be MOST appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Who is your ISP...? If it is DSL connection and its giving the ip in the range of your router i.e. 192.168.1.x,then convert the modem into the bridge mode and then try.
Have you tried upgrading your router..?..if not then try to upgrade the firmware.Firstly you need to download the firmware.
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Problem using game-related applications behind lynksis wrt54g v8 router.

Hi everyone. As the topic states I'm having trouble with game-related applications. The thing is that after I added the router to the network so my sister could have Internet connection, my two main game-related apps (Medal of Honor Heroes Dedicated Server & zbattle.net) stopped connecting successfully to some servers (ea nation: for moh account & www.zbattle.net for getting rooms for zbattle.net). Ironically, I can use zbattle.net from my sister laptop and can connect successfully using the wireless connection. I have forwarded the ports and used dmz twice, but nothing from my computer. ZBattle.net tells me there was an error connecting to the server and MoH heroes dedicated server tells me it could not connect to ea nation. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here's a more detailed explanation of the problem and is up to date on the recent data I've gotten.

  • Using XP Pro's Remote Desktop for multiple systems behind my Linksys WRT54G

I would like to be able to use Windows XP Pro's "Remote Desktop" application to access more than one system behind my WRT54G router.
I understand that I need to use Port Forwarding on the router to do this, but how can I set it up to enable access to any of the 4 systems that are behind it?
    Thx in advance

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp
look for the entry "PortNumber", this will be a hexidecimal entry, so you will have to click decimal when you edit it, save to the new RDP connection port you want, say 3390 for machine 2, 3391 for machine 3, and so on, and reboot for it to take effect.
Then to connect to it from the RDP client (once you make the forwarding entries in your router of course), it's just whateverIP-DNSname: port in the connection window.Message Edited by Wayne613 on 02-23-200708:06 PM

  • L2TP Passthrough not working on WRT54GS

I have a VPN server behind my WRT54GS (firmware v7.2.06) which I have no problems connecting to via PPTP.  I cannot however connect with L2TP.  I am certain that an L2TP request is not getting past the router because the connection attempt doesn't even show up in the VPN logs on the server.
IPSec, PPTP ad L2TP Passthoughs are all enabled.  I even setup port forwarding on 1701 UDP and 1723 TCP.  Also have ISAKMP/IKE at port 500, IKE NAT on port 4500 (both UDP) setup to forward.
I would rather be using L2TP for higher security.
I do not see what I am doing wrong here.  Any ideas?

If you are sure that port forwarding rules are properly applied, change the MTU to 1300 and see if it works, if it does not work change the MTU to 1200 and cross check...

  • IChatAV with WRT54GS

I am having an odd difficulty. I am not able to connect with another user using iChat AV (audio and video, text ok) if the user on the other end has a linksys router. Previously, I was able to connect to user when user had D-Link. Both ends have the WRT54GS. If either of us bypass the router and go directly into the cable modem, it will connect successfully. I have done the following: Disabled firewall, tried port forwarding on ports 4099, 5190 and 5193 for both protocols. When that didnt work I gave both sides of the connection a manual ip address and enabled DMZ. I would have thought that this would work, but it did not. In viewing the logs, the error code is -8, which from what I have read is a port issue. I am a Mac Technical Support person, however, routers are not my specialty. Thanks for any help you all out there can give.

I have a similar problem (and also posted to the Apple discussion area). Basically, I can iChat with my brother in Washington DC and my sister-in-law in Los Angeles any time I want (including 3-way audio/video), and I can iChat with my Dad, where-ever he is located (he travels a lot). But, for the last several weeks he has been located in Hawaii behind a WRT54G (L version I believe and w/latest firmware) router and we are not able to audio or video chat. My siblings are using either Airport Base Stations or Airport Express based connections. I have a WRT54GS (w/latest firmware). We've both tried numerious hardware resets, iChat preference resets, etc, but are not able to connect via video or audio. We get the dreaded Error -8 in iChat. However, my dad can talk to both my brother and sister-in-law, just like I can. The only thing I can think of is that there is a problem in how iChat connections interact when both ends of the connection are using a WRT54Gx. Just for laughs we both downloaded the beta version of Skype and ARE able to audio/video with each other using it! I've already tried unchecking the "block anonymous internet/WAN requests" option at both ends but that did not help. This is really strange, and I'd sure appreciate any help we can get. OBTW, I've also tried the using the DMZ option at both ends to try and eliminate any port forwarding issues. I am going to have him take his laptop to some local coffee shop that has "free" connectivity to see if iChat works from there. If it does it will certianly point to a router based issue.

  • Wrt54g & ps3

I have a wrt54g wireless and router and the ps3 60g model. The problem that I am having is that I can open up web pages and even download games but when I try to play fight night round 3 the system tells me that I am not signed in. Any suggestions.

I have the same problem with the 60G PS3 and a WRT54GS.  I can perform all online functions fine, but I can't connect to ANY EA sports title.  I have tried Madden 07 and TW 07.
The kicker is that I was able to connect to the Madden servers until about 3 weeks ago.
I have been searching the linksys and EA boards ever since looking for a solution with no luck.
You are the second person i have found on the linksys boards that can't connect to an EA server behind a WRT54G router.
I have rebuilt my network and updated firmware several times with no effect.  I have also alternated between DMZ and port forwarding.  If you find any solution please post it here. I will do the same.
    Good luck.

  • Port address translation

I am using MS Exchange and Windows Small Business Server behind a WRT54G.  I have enabled Outlook Web Access on port 80 in the WRT54G.  I have another device that requires port 80.  I am told that routers can send inquires on one port to another port.  Can anyone tell me how to setup the WRT54G to do this port translation?

Con you provide more details like the hardware and firmware version of router.
Also for this you need to enable the UPnP forwarding on router.

  • EFAH05W having weird problems...

Ok, so I went on vacation for about a week and came back to find my EFAH05W V2.0 offline. It is behind a WRT54GS and has been working for the last 3 months. What it is doing is when i plug in the uplink cable from the WRT54, it lights up the lights for the #5 port, yet if i plug my comp into the #5 port, nothing lights up. If i unplug the uplink cord, and plug in my computer to the #5 port, the #5 lights come on (which is why nothing came on if both are plugged in). When i plug my computer into the #1 port, the #5 lights up, yet 2, 3, and 4 all light up the right ones. The lights dont light up steady though (only if i plug in the uplink cable into the uplink port). They blink (they come on at the same time, but the bottom one goes out first, then the top one). Please help! I am at a loss as to what is going on. The 54GS has DD-WRT on it if that makes a difference.

Make sure you try connecting the modem to the uplink port of the switch & the ethernet port on the switch to the ethernet port on the pc & then reset the router for 30 secs in such a way that power light is blinking & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cable from the modem & from the router & then plug the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug the power cable to the router & you should be able to open the setup page of the router & then according to your Internet Service Provider you could troubleshoot your device & you will be able to go online wired as well as wireless.

  • PPPd / PPPoE "lag" problem

I've been using arch linux for quite some time, but currently I'm trying to set up my modem in bridge mode.
It works fine, but there is one little issue. When I try to ping anything, the latency is perfect and there is no packet loss but it seems like fron time to time it just hangs. This hang whon't be noticed by the ping utility as a packet loss or greater latency, it will just stop for some time time and continue as if nothing has happened. It could be a sing that this is a software problem, and not my provider or the hardware.
I notice that too when acessing ,for example, any site fron my browser (even if the site has a 17ms latency!), sometimes it just hang on the loading for some time).
My machine has a nForce 4 chipset, the forcedeth module is loaded and the speedstream 4200 router/modem is directly connected to the eth0, the adresses are automaticaly assigned via DHCP and on Windows XP using RASPPPoE it works perfectly with no "lag".
    This is my peer file:
    #/etc/ppp/peers/brt
    plugin rp-pppoe.so
    # ro_pppoe_ac 'your ac name'
    # rp_pppoe_service 'your service name'
    # network interface
    eth0
    #login name
    name "[email protected]"
    usepeerdns
    persist
#Uncomment this if you want to enable dial on demand
    #demand
    #idle 180
    defaultroute
    hide-password
    noauth
If anyone has some clue on this, just share your idea!

the 4200 is a great little device, best router i could find for speed and stability when i was working at a residential service provider
i've never tried doing pppoe from the desktop, but have always had them behind linksys wrt54g routers (running dd-wrt) with no problems
you can get dd-wrt images that load in vmware, perhaps see if they're using any different setup in the config files of that project?
personally, i think NATting off the router (as you are now, as i am with dd-wrt) is better anyway, it provides network management, and a good level of security, so you don't have to worry about a firewall on your own LAN boxes

  • Unable to connect to internet using DHCP with WRT54G behind ISA 2004

    Hello,
For starters, the Linksys WRT54G is located behind the ISA 2004 Sever firewall. The gateway for the LAN and internet segment is set at 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1 for the WLAN segment on the ISA box. All the proper network rules and access rules have been created. If I set the adapter card on the lap top with a static IP, e.g. ip address as 192.168.2.3, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.2.1 and primary DNS: 192.168.1.1 the lap top can connect to the internet through the WLAN segment. At this point the WRT54G is set for internet connection type as automatic configuration DHCP, local IP address as 192.168.2.2 subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and DHCP server disabled
When using DHCP on the WRT54G by enabling it and setting the Starting IP address to 192.168.2.3, I cannot connect to the internet. When using the CMD prompt and doing a ipconfig /all this is the result
    I get       DHCP enabled: yes
                   Autoconfiguration Enabled: yes
                 IP Address: 192.168.2.3
                   Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
                   Default Gateway: 192.168.2.2
                   DHCP Server: 192.168.2.2
                   DNS Server: 192.168.2.2
Is it possible to configure the WRT54G so that the default gateway can be set? Each time I change the Local IP address of the WRT54G e.g. 192.168.2.10, the default gateway gets the same IP address.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karl

In the 54g, setup an extra route to the other default gateway.
    ie; route 192.168.2.2 mask 255.255.255.2 gate 192.168.2.1

  • Want to put my WRT54GS behind a WRVS4400N DMZ

    Hello all,
I've got a pretty typical setup with my DSL modem hooked to my WRT54GS, which is the gateway for my home network, both wired and not.   I have received a block of static IP's from my ISP and I now want to build a DMZ in "front" of my home network.  Here's what I envision:
            Internet
                |
            DSL Modem
                |
WRVS4400N V.2  (no NAT, no DHCP, intrusion detection and firewall only) static IP on both sides of the router
                |
             DMZ (all static IP)
                |
WRT54GS (static IP facing the DMS, NAT, DHCP, etc behind the router)
Does this look like a good design?  Is there anything I need to watch for to "push" my current home lan behind my new DMZ?
    Thanks for the help.
         - Jeff

OK, I have a complication (I used to know this stuff, really....)  I started mapping out the IP networks and started to configure the WRVS4400N and got lost.
My ISP gave me a block of static IP's - say 1.2.3.4-19  (16 block).  They reserve 3, so I get to use 13.
1.2.3.4 is reserved (probably for their router)
    1.2.3.19 is reserved for broadcast
    1.2.3.18 is reserved for gateway.
So I tried to set up the 4400N last night and got stuck setting up the routing.  Here's a diagram:
DSL Modem - 1.2.3.4 (internal) - this is an Actiontec GT701-WG - could be replaced with any DSL modem/router
                  |  1.2.3.18 (gateway)
                  |
                  |  (1.2.3.5 Wan port)
WRVS4400N - no dhcp, no nat (in router state not gateway), Intrusion and Firewall on - 1.2.3.6 internal
                  |  (1.2.3.7 Lan port)
                  |
                  |------------------------------------------this is where I want to put 1.2.3.8-16 (servers)
                  |
                  |  1.2.3.17 (Wan Address)
         WRT54GS  - almost default setup
                  |  192.168.1.1
                  |
    (Home Network)
The problem I have is that I don't get to pick the IP's that are reserved on the actiontec, and they encompass the entire IP range I've been given.  I want the protection of the 4400 for my servers, but I don't see how to build a route table to form a separate cloud of 1.2.3.5-17.  It's like I'm cascading three routers over only two IP ranges.  Splitting the 1.2.3.x ip range into two subnets doesn't seem to work since the isp grabs both the top and the bottom of the range.
Can someone help me with the details of setting something like this up?
....Alternatively, the reason I am looking to do this is that I want to protect my home net, offer web services from my DMZ, yet be able to let my home net access dmz servers without going out and back in via the internet.  I could set up two VLAN's, one for home, one for the DMZ, both using NAT on two different IP ranges (giving me 3), but I have two problems - I have several servers that I need to service internet requests (not just one DMZ PC) and I want to access the DMZ from the home net directly.  If I set inter-VLAN routing on, I think I'm giving a channel for a hacker to get to my home net.
So I'd be open to any alternatives.  Functionally, I don't think what I want to do is hard, but getting into the weeds of configuration has my head spinning.
Thanks again for all the help, it is very much appreciated.

  • Use wrtu54g-tm or wrt54g v.8 as Wireless router?

Hi - already have the wrt54g v.8 as my network router attached to a comcast cable modem. leaving comcast phone for the tmobile@home service and now have their wrtu54g router. any thoughts on the relative performance of these two as routers? eg., should i just replace my existing router with the wrtu54g or should i plug the new tmobile router into the existing router? many thanks.

if you are just going to be using the wrtu54g as a phone adapter then you can connect that to the wrt54g with no problems, you may need to forward some ports on the router as well.
the best recommnedation is to just repalce the main router for the mean time and the wrtu54g function almost the same way. that way you would not have too may device plugged in.

  • Can I connect a WRT54g behind a WAG54g ?

    How can I connect a WRT54G behind a WAG54G ?

No. It is not really making sense. Why do you want to have a routed LAN? Why do you want a router inside your LAN? A router is a separating network element. It separates distinct subnets. For most home networks this is not what people want. Windows home networking depends to some extent on an connected ethernet network, i.e. a single broadcast domain. A router creates two separate ethernet networks between which you can router traffic. Most consumer routers won't allow you to configure them in a way so that broadcasts will actually cross the router.
If you have a router inside your LAN you will not be able to do Windows file and printer sharing across the router as you are used to do it in a single subnet. You cannot do workgroup browsing and name resolution across the router without a domain controller/server providing this service for you.
Also, using software which requires you do "open ports" or configure "port forwardings" are harder to configure because you may have to configure this on two routers.
Moreover, as you are having two wireless routers: wireless roaming between two separate IP subnets is not possible without reconnection. The client which leaves one access points and moves to the next one must get a new IP address as it belongs now to a different subnet.
You will only want to operate a real router inside your network if you either have a very big one and with a nice server inside or if there are specific reasons to separate the networks, e.g. when you want to run a server in the internet and at the same time prevent this server to access any other computer as you worry that the server may get hacked and used to access your LAN. Then you can setup a gateway router and connect the internet server to this router. The second router creates a second private LAN inside the first one's. This second LAN is where you connect all your other computers.
But generally, most home users don't want to run two routers in a home network. They want easy file and printer sharing. They may want to be able to extend the wireless coverage and create a roaming network.
I hope, it makes sense now why I asked my original question and you can now think more about what you actually want to do with the second router...
