WRTU54G-TM not keeping its IP address, generally being annoying
I bought a Linksys WRTU54G-TM for the TMobile @Home service. Setting it up is proving to be absurdly frustrating because the webbased interface refuses to acknowledge that I have given it an IP address. I set the IP to 192.168.1.20, static IP, configured as a bridge, etc etc. Every time I was able to bring up the web interface the IP address was listed as 0.0.0.0 on the main page, but the Status page showed the correct IP.
I shut off the wireless router part because we already have a wireless setup -- ironically a WRT54G Linux-based Linksys router that's been working without a hitch for 3 years. Since the TMobile router and the main router are in wholly separate areas of the house, we're using a Zoom wireless access point so it can still remain part of the network. The Zoom access point has been working flawlessly for around 2 years.
After a few minutes of trying to figure out **bleep** is going on, now the router is not responding to 192.168.1.20 at all.
At this point I'm getting overly frustrated and about to chuck the thing through the nearest wall. Why doesn't the webform keep the IP address? Why does the router seem so keen on reverting to 192.168.24.1 when I've never set that as an IP address? I won't even get into the fact that the router isn't letting me use the phone ports because that's a whole different can of worms.
Has anyone else had this amount of trouble with the WRTU54G-TM? Did I just get a lemon?
There's one the WRT54G Linux-based router that's serving as a DHCP server. I've disabled the DHCP server on the TMobile router and told it to use a static IP address (192.168.1.20, WRT54G is at 192.168.1.1). So far everything is working fine even though the web interface continues to deny that it has a proper IP address -- but only on the initial form; going to the Status page still lists the proper IP. It doesn't appear to be causing any issues other than annoying me so I'm letting it fly (otherwise the router itself would be flying).
There was an issue earlier with the router forgetting about the connected phone when I was transferring a large file across the network but that hasn't reappeared. We're getting some static a few seconds into phone conversations but I'm attributing that to a cordless phone that the soon-to-be-Mrs insisted on using. Hopefully I'll be able to talk her into a VTech DS6121 setup, or something similar, so that won't be an issue going forward. Wish me luck

Primary network port (en0) is not reporting its hardware address properly
We have always had no problems with watching instant movies on Netflix until today for some reason, called Netflix and they said to contact Apple. We tried to reinstall the player and everything but they found out the "primary network port (en0) is not reporting its hardware address properly", not sure what that means. Since my phone support is expired they won't help me on the phone, so I'm hoping someone might have a solution for me here. Thank you.
Here's what the netflix tech support email said:
During the course of troubleshooting your experience watching instantly from Netflix on your Apple computer we discovered that your primary network port (en0) is not reporting its hardware address properly. The Microsoft Silverlight player that Netflix utilizes for watching instantly requires the correct hardware address of this network port to play back digitally protected content. The primary network port is typically the Ethernet port on the computer (with the exception being the Macbook Air) and reasons for playback failure can include hardware failure of the port itself or incorrect software configuration.
Please contact Apple for assistance with properly configuring the network interface(s) on your Apple computer at http://www.apple.com/support/expert or contact your local Apple Store for an appointment.
Thank you for choosing Netflix,I have the same issue on a MacMini with a defunct Ethernet port. The primary port is en0 however it's an Apple a/b/g Airport card and apparently that combination isn't seen as valid by silverlight.

Transmission does not keep its configuration after restart
Hi everyone,
I have a problem coming up with gnome's last upgrade.
Since Gnome 3.8 then, transmission 2.77 will not keep its configuration. I've already tried to erase the ~/.config/transmission folder in order to start transmission with a "clean" configuration but its not working.
Does anyone have the same problem ? And more importantly, does anyone have a solution yet ?
Thankschord wrote:
Common solution for configs rewriting prevent :
chattr +i <your-config-file-name>
It blocks any changes on locked file.
If you need to rewrite/edit file, just unlock it with chattr -i, write changes and lock it again.
I don't think that's a good idea, there is probably a valid reason a config file is being overwritten, your solution would disable the actual application from changing its own config file...
I had a similar problem with the transmission daemon,
Basically this is what I have deducted:
Start transmission
It reads config file
Stop transmission
It re-writes the config file with what it first read when it started plus applying changes you may have made via a GUI.
Basically as I said earlier, if you edit transmissions config file while it is running with vim or nano or whatever, those changes will be over written when transmission stops.
The solution is to either change settings from the GUI, or make sure there is no transmission running, then edit the config file and save it. Everything should then work so long as you haven't made a syntax error when editing the config file.

My printer has become disconnected from my Network. The first time I removed all the software and re-installed it / rebooted and it seemed to be ok. However, after 4 or 5 pages it stopped and HP Solution Centre showed the printer as Disconnected. Device Manager showed the device as disabled so I enabled it but no change. I then checked the Network set-up and the IP address was shown under the Manual set-up as 0.0.0.0. and I could not reset it to the correct value. I added the correct numbers but when I pressed OK it reverted to 0.0.0.0. everytime. I could set the Submask and Gateway to the correct value but not the printer. Is this a 'dead' machine ? I have tried removing power and restarting......
The router is a 2-Wire model supplied by BT and shows the network correctly - and with the correct IP address for the printer, but it is shown as disconnected. I've tried changing it using the printer front panel and add the IP i want manually and as soon as I OK to store the info if reverts to 0.0.0.0. I can change the Subnet Mask and the Default Gateway and they will stay but as soon as I set the IP address again it all reverts to 0.0.0.0.. I guess the network card is dead and I have now set the printer up using the USB connection..... and my last USB socket on the computer .....

The browser will not keep its preferences or options.
Every time I set them and reboot or shutdown, settings all reset back to first use (i.e. show all splash screens for extensions etc.) Happens everytime no exception. No preferences saved and reused you have to reset all items contained in the Options folder. This I unacceptable. Also it would not import bookmarks or export them (corrected by itself go figure) and would not restore or backup them either. This happens every time I use it. Getting ridiculously tired of having to reset everything every time I use the browser. Wish you could reply with the answer.
Sorry didn't work. I did know about how to do this before I had the problem but I did like to have it completely restated as you listed it (thanks). This is always tied to windows 7 on this particular machine. My other system does not have this issue and its windows 7 also. Both have the exact same settings and software installed but the one is 1 year older and slower but has no problems. Both are from the same manufacturer. I would have accessed it and used all its setting but It is 500 miles away and not turned so I cannot access its files. This system far exceeds any recommended system requirements for Firefox. I so far have uninstalled it and reinstalled it at least 40 or 50 times through Jan 2012 and just know have been able to get it to work. I have also uninstalled any software that could have caused any problem without success. This time I left everything running performed all sort of upgrades for windows, ran a cleaner, left Zone Alarm Extreme Security Running and installed add-ons to the browser(Firefox 10). Seems this time to want to work. Personally I think it all windows 7 64 bit problem. No matter what I do with this its seems to go against any rational troubleshooting. Please any other thoughts. There has to be a key to the problem hidden somewhere. Just like when tech help says it will fix it or it will not and you find that its not the case and something else is the culprit. Usually something very simple. Any ideas or help is appreciated as I really want to understand why the fixes are not working.
Thanks Very Kindly

DB_TXN_WRITE_NOSYNC not keeping its contract?
Dear forum,
I'm using bsddb (4.6 on Debian) in a program where it is rather critical that each write not take very much time. For that purpose, I'm specifying DB_TXN_WRITE_NOSYNC when creating a transaction, so as to avoid the time it takes to sync to disk physically (perfect durability is not my foremost concern anyway). In spite of that, however, bsddb still calls fdatasync on what I think is the log file when I commit the transaction (as seen using strace). Why might this be? Do I need to do something else in order to avoid that and, in that case, what does DB_TXN_WRITE_NOSYNC really mean? From reading the docs, it is described as precisely what I want: "Write, but do not synchronously flush, the log when this transaction commits."
Thank you for reading!Alexander.Gorrod wrote:
It's also worth being aware that there are events other than transaction commit that can trigger a flush. For example a checkpoint operation causes a flush, as does switching to a new log file.Interestingly enough, there seems to be something to this. I just thought of the bright idea to attach gdb to the process and break on fdatasync, and it shows that the flushing actually does not happen when committing the transaction, but on a put operation itself. Why does my iMac lose its IP Address after being asleep?
It appears that after an hour or so of being asleep my iMac will not reconnect to the wifi internet. When I open the problem it says No IP address but the problem is quickly fixed by going into diagnostics.
I've done all of the updates, I have reinstalled, and I've tried to change my location several times.
Whats my computers diagnosis?Hmmm, is this any more than any ISP DNS Server would do? (A much lesser concern, but I have the NoRedirct Add-on in Firefox. When I type in a misspelled URL like nsojs-,gpi-0skf, it goes to Google, not OpenDNS and I have all Google cookies blocked, as well as Google's link tracking redirects, using NoScript.)
Anyway, I've read the ToU and the Privacy Policy. But it's written in obtuse legalese. What I'd really like to know is what they do in practice. FWIW (and maybe not worth that much)
2) We have never sold, nor do we have any intention of selling any customer data ever. You have completely taken that line from our privacy policy out of context. All that means is that when you click an ad, our advertising partner (Yahoo) will see your IP address and the typo you made that resulted in you seeing the ad you clicked on. Nothing more.

Gen -- We don't do anything with your query history other than pull some stats from them. Moreover, your ISP has a far far more privacy-invasive privacy policy...
And while it's not intended to satiate the tin-foil'ers, we're currently putting together some new features now that will let you turn off all stats collection for your requests. That means we'll bitbucket all your stats and anything even remotely personally identifiable (and not like AOL-style anonymize it, we'll actually get rid of it).
As for being free, EveryDNS.Net is free too and we've been making money for six years. Go figure. :-)

Java bytecode operation 'invokevirtual' does not keep consistency
I have following codes.
public class Parent {
@Override
public int hashCode() {
return 0;
public class Child extends Parent {
public void test() {
this.toString();
this.hashCode();
As you see in the above codes, Child inherits toString() from Object and hashCode() from Parent. Bytecode operation of Child#test is as following.
ALOAD 0: this
INVOKEVIRTUAL Object.toString() : String
ALOAD 0: this
INVOKEVIRTUAL Child.hashCode() : int
RETURN
I think if invokevirtual calls Object.toString(), it should call Parent.hashCode() for consistency. or, Child.hashCode() called, then Child.toString() should be called.
However, invokevirtual does not keep its consistency if and only if target method is inherited by Object.
Only that case, invokevirtual calls method in the Object. For other cases, invokevirtual calls method in current class.
I want to know why this happens.I think if invokevirtual calls Object.toString(), it should call Parent.hashCode() for consistencyExcept that it doesn't exist.
You can't seriously be suggesting that this doesn't work correctly. -
K7N2GM-L: Not Keeping Time in XP
This is the system in question, the one in my sig is my own system replacing my old system which I rebuilt for someone else:
MSI K7N2GM-L
768MB DDR 333 Ram (Kingston CAS-2.5)
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
On board sound
Sapphire Radeon 9200SE
LG 48x Combo Drive/DVD Reader
Western Digital 120GB 8MB Cache ATA100 HDD
Sony Floppy Drive
The problem is it seems as soon as they turn the PC off it loses all track of time (I wish when I goto sleep time would stop, lol) when the PC is turned back on and boots to windows the time is reset to when it was turned off. Having to sync the time everytime windows boots is rather annoying. This is my second replacement of the same board, the BIOS is set to the right time, the CPU is even underclocked to 100mhz bus, and the clock doesn't keep even with the proper clock. I have reset the bios to default and nothing happened.
I have read on many forums and websites that it could be one of 4 things:
1.) As motherboards get cheaper componants are of a lower grade and do not keep time right.
2.) Power Supply
3.) CMOS Battery
4.) Motherboard bad
(1) Motherboard was cheap
(2) Powersupply worked flawlessly when I had it and I had more devices, and it was tested with a multimeter, with proper voltages being read.
(3) well since this is a brand new mobo, 2nd of its kind, 1st not keeping the time either, battery being the fault is doubtful
4.) again since this is a new board, replacement at that, doubtful
Is a format in order here?
Any help would be appreciated, It is always nice to have more heads working on a problem.
Thanks
JeffHi,
Badge: AFAIK, the clock on your motherboard should run for as long as the battery powers it. So even after a couple of days applying no power (except battery of course) your clock should be reasonably accurate.
This is a bit of a mystery, as you say it's occured with two motherboards!? It may be worth your clearing the CMOS. (If you haven't already done so - It can't hurt).
First, power down and set your FSB jumper to SAFE (100Mhz) setting. Then follow the instructions given here:
Clear CMOS guide
...follow the instructions as closely as possible - you might also like to remove your battery as an extra precaution.
Given a problem like this your first port of call would usually be battery replacement, have you tried this? I don't think it's the battery as your BIOS seems stable - but it could be - you never know!
You've not reported any other BIOS problems - does it keep its settings?
If none of this works and you've tried switching off "Spread Spectrum" in the BIOS I would assume that there is a fault somewhere. Exactly what it is though - is a mystery!

I can't purchase anything because my Ipod Touch 4th Gen keeps saying invalid address
When I know its correct... and I dunno wut to do about it...There are a number of threads about it - it looks like Apple recently updated their address validation. Some people have recorded success by :
ensuring that their iTunes account address is exactly the same as appears on their credit card bill
putting something in the second line of the address (including just copying the first line)
expanding abbreviations e.g. St to Street, Ave to Avenue etc (or conversely abbreviating)
putting apartment or suite number on the second address line -
I'm trying to restore my iCloud back up on my new iPhone 5s and keep getting "could not sign in your apple Id or password is incorrect. All 3 of my books transferred over without my having had to do anything at all. If you're worried about retaining books, you could try moving your ADE 4 to an external drive & confirming that your books are also there. I believe that the book information is saved elsewhere (separately from the ADE) and it should simply transfer over, but since I only had three books, all library items, I didn't have much to lose. All I can speak from is my own experience. I had to get rid of ADE 4 in order to successfully install ADE 2.0.
