Wrtu54g-tm slow internet and ? about 1.15 vs 1.20 vs 1.21

Been noticing that my internet is slow, especially on websites that source a lot of small pictures (rcgroups dotcom for instance).
Tonight for the heck of it I went to see if there was a FW update and saw that Linksys has 1.21 available.
Was surprised to see my modem is at 1.20 as the last I remembered it was at 1.15 and working great.  Read that 1.21 has bugs.
So, the question is:
- is 1.20 a problem with my slow internet?  FTP's UL and DL are fast, and my VOIP testing is good, but internet pages are laggy.
- Why isn't TM pushing out 1.21?
- Should I go back to 1.15?
thanks,
Dave

Well, T-Mobile did push out  1.00.15 at one time and I certainly didn't put 1.00.20 on my router, neither did my 10 yr old daughter.
MTU is currently at 1365  when I changed it over a year ago.
Speed testing on DSL Reports gives respectable #'s.  It's web pages with a lot of different content that is laggy.  First the banner, then the headings, then the rest.  Even this Linksys forum section is doing it.

When you login to the Setup page of your Router, below you need to change the MTU size from 1500 to 1350 and click on Save settings...
Now you can check the speed on your computer...

  • Who can help to live, or slow internet and large packages

I have slow internet(mobile gprs 10 kBytes/s). Updating packages like "kde-wallpapers" or "kdeartwork-wallpapers" take a long time despite the fact that the contents of the package no major changes. If you do a binary diff, for example on the "oxygen-icons" you can only download about ~300 kilobytes. Can support in the pacman binary diffs of packages, and on the server generating diff`s of these files by utility xdelta3? Or make it a separate utility (such as yaourt) which will download the differences and generate packets, and pacman will install it.

  • Extremely slow internet and staying connected

I got Verizon internet almost 2 weeks ago. Ever since then it has been nothing but one problem after another. It cuts out so many times a day. I have to reset the modem 20+ times a day. Its very frustrating. I tried talking to customer service about it and they dont do anything, all they say is to go to the troubleshooting page and look around on there. I am ready to cancel because it is getting ridiculous. My modem is the Actiontec GT784 and it has built in Wifi, which cuts out as well. And the speed of the internet and the Wifi is extremely slow when it is connected. SOMEONE HELPPPPP!!!

Bad timing to get FIOS, There's an outage and Verizon doesn't seem to be doing anything.

  • New computer = slow internet and email

A few months ago my Dell laptop motherboard died and since it was still on warranty Dell sent me a new laptop.  I also use a wireless router. This computer has way more capacity and memory than my previous computer and so far so good.  Except: When I try to delete emails in Outlook that come from a website, it takes FOREVER. It sits there and spins and sometimes I get the "not responding" message. I'm attaching some messages I occasionally get in Outlook.  I also have that slow problem when I'm browsing web sites (Firefox). It's intermittent but especially toward the end of the day it slows down and sometimes just doesn't respond to anything.  If I shut down my browser and restart immediately the problem goes away. Yes, my virus scan is working; I regularly clear my browser history and use a cleaner to remove useless files.  I'm trying to give you pertinent information since I just am not technologically smart enough to even know where to look for the cause of this problem so please keep any responses as non-techie as possible.   Can anyone help? It is so aggravating!! Thanks!!

  • Very slow internet and email designated an "Apple" problem by my server

I have had my mac mini for about 15 months and recently it has become unbearably slow especially on the internet. I have DSL and only have one computer. Most of the time I am not able to send emails before it times out.
My provider, AT&T, yesterday did several tests and told me that their services are working fine as is my DSL box. The lights on the box also indicate that it is working fine. During yesterday's test with AT&T they had me go to another website to get the speed of my sending and receiving. Sending was 295.1 kbps and receiving was 373.1 kbps. The tech said this was extremely slow and was puzzled that it was so slow, but gave no help other than that the problem must lie with my mac. I don't know what to do. I am now using the local library's computer in hopes that someone will be able to give me more assistance.
As further information, last week when I first noticed problems I was having trouble shutting down the computer. It would take several times of initiating the shut down process before it would finally shut down. It appeared at that time that a program called "mirroragent" was my problem. It was causing the shut down to be terminated. However, I have been able to get very little information about mirroragent other than it is part of the idisk or .mac programs. I tried stopping all automization of idisk sychronization, but that failed to help.

It sounds like you have plenty of free disc space.
The processes by root are important, there are many things that run in the background on the machine even before any user logs in.
You can sort the process list based on CPU usage, to see what is currently active and using up the most CPU power when the computer seems to be running slowly for no reason. Launch and quit an application and watch what happens to the CPU usage, does it go down to low usage when you have quit all other applications, or is something running pegging the CPU meter when you expect the machine to be idle?
Also, there is an internet/network activity panel that should indicate if there is any active upload/download activity on your computer that you might not be aware of.
ClamXav is a free file-scanning virus utility, not sure it can detect and stop an active virus running in your system, but you can scan previously downloaded files and documents to see if it finds anything, it's more of a preventative tool. I kind of doubt that is your problem though.

I am sorry to hear about the trouble you are having with this. Has this happened recently? I was able to check the connection history and it does seem to be much better for the past week. If the issue comes back let me know, we might need to have a tech check this. -FC

  • Slow Internet and troubles loading

Hi guys and girls I was looking for a bit of help with my Internet connection.
I have Bt Infinity and everything was fine until around about the end of November. Now it is so slow in loading most (but not all) websites. It starts to load websites then it just stops, and I have to cancel it then reload it a few times to get it to load.
When I try to download files it only downloads a little bit then it stops, the only way I can download things is to keep redownloading it over and over until it finally finally finishes.
When I try to watch videos on youtube it Instantly buffers a section of the video then just stops. When I change the video quality either up or down it bufffers the next section instantly.
The Internet works perfectly on the wifi tho. Everything loads first time and very fast on my ipod and xbox but not so on the PC. I ran the Bt speed check and it came back with a downlaod speed of 35.2 mbps and a connection speed of 38.7 mbps.
If it helps I'm using a Desktop PC, running windows 7, I have made sure that all the windows updates are installed, Checked for viruses, Removed temp files. I am using firefox, the lastest version. I tried running it without add ons, I also tried using IE and Google Chrome and still it is so slow and hardly loads anything.
I am using Bt Home Hub 3 as was supplied by BT.
Like I said the Internet was fine til about 1 month ago and loaded everything fast first time. I never had any problems before with buffering videos.
Any help would be very nice as it is starting to get very annoying now.
    Cheers Kirk

  • Super slow internet and bad gaming.

Okay my dad is super occupied and he doesn't have enough time to fix this problem, so it's up to me.
We were trying to improve our internet quality so we bought a netgear modem. As soon as we did so our internet quality decreased by about 200%. Download speed used to be anywhere from 500-850Kb a second now its anywhere from 20-150. Online Gaming is also really bad.
So we gave up and decided to Return NetGear and but Airport Extreme. It's really no better. I think that in the switch from our old modem a setting got switched or something, I really have no idea.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help?
    Thank you--

  • Slow internet and WRT160N

Just installed the WRT160N yesterday and ever since my connection has been horribly slow. Webpages are taking several minutes to load if they load at all.  If i connect directly to my modem everything is fast, the minute the router is hooked up it slows down a  lot.  Any suggestions?

Hello Gizmo003, who's your Internet Service Provider? Is it a Cable connection or DSL? There's a different setup for Cable and DSL connections. Did you try disabling your PC's firewall already? Your Linksys router has a built-in firewall so make sure your windows firewall is off and also for any anti-virus program installed in your PC, make sure the firewalls are all off/disabled.
    You mentioned:
Updated the firmware - How? Did you reset the router after updating it? Click here how to do it right.
Reset the Router and Modem hundreds of times - or you mean to say "a couple of times"?..How did you do it? Click here to reset the router properly.
Unplugged everything and plugged it all back in - To do power cycle, try this steps:
    Power CyclingStep 1:
    Shutdown the computer.
    Step 2:
    Unplug the router’s power cable.
    Step 3:
Unplug the modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
    Step 4:
Plug in the modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
    Step 5:
Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
    Step 6:
Power on the computer on and test the Internet connection.

  • Slow Internet Question

I'll try to be brief but complete.
A few days ago I posted about slow internet and in response it was suggested I go to OpenDNS, which I did, and everything sped up considerably.
I applied OpenDNS via System Prefs>Network>Advanced>DNS.
Now, I'm back to a crawl (almost like the old dial up days).
Here's my set up:4 Mac network via Airport Extreme with an Express to boost range in the house. Both are set to Chanel 3. I have Cox cable high speed.
I did not do anything with OpenDNS to the Airport(s) - out of fear I might mess something up.
All bars on the Airport; interference robustness enabled.
Airport Utility is showing a signal of -80 and noise of -92 on the main Base Station, and a signal of -48 and noise of -94 on the Express extension.
I checked OpenDNS (via their website) and am seeing an IP address in the upper right hand corner of the web page that does not match anything I can find. Don't know if that means anything.
AP Grapher is showing several neighborhood networks but nothing unusual. Under the Airport status in the menu bar, I'm only showing 2 of my neighbors' locked networks. So I don't think I have an interference issue.
Speed is slow in Firefox and Safari. I tried clearing caches, and that did nothing.
With this background, any step by step ideas on how to get my internet speed back, and to keep it? Like I said, for a few days after going to OpenDNS I was like a rocket, and now it's gone back to a medium crawl.
    Most Appreciated & Thanks!

Realize also that cordless phones and microwave ovens interfere with them all.
And don't forget "Baby Monitors". They can be really bad, as some of them use spread spectrium tricks and do not just camp on a single channel. So got any new parents nearby?
1, 6, and 11 do not use frequencies that overlap. I'm not sure if they all follow a sequential pattern in that 2 is clear of 7, 3 is clear of 8, etc.
Each channels uses 5 channels worth of bandwidth. So picking on channel 6 as an example, its signal strength is strongest on Channel 6. It overlaps and is relatively strong on channels 5 and 7. It continues to overlap but will be weaker on channels 4 and 8. Think of the signal as a bell curve with the strongest portion of the curve being centered on channel 6.
Now apply that 5 channel bell curve to any channel you choose, and that channel will be overlapping the adjacent 2 higher and 2 lower channels.
Channel 1 uses frequences below channel 1, plus 2 and 3. Channel 6 uses 4,5,6,7,8 and Channel 11 uses 9,10,11,12,13 (I only mention 12 and 13 because some countries, but not the US, actually allow these 2 channels).
So you can pick channel 2, but if someone is using channel 1, your 5 channel bell curve and channel 1's 5 channel bell curve will overlap a good deal, and unless the neighbor using channel 1 is a good distance away, you will interfere a great deal with each other.
I only recomend usng channels other than 1, 6, and 11 if there are totally saturated, and then it is a game of trying to find the place where a 5 channel bell curve will overlap with the weakest neighboring signals.

  • I'm on a slow internet connection can I download photoshop cc directly at another location to install?

Hi I'm trying to get photoshop installed on a computer at a location with slow internet and it's taking way too long. Can I download it somehow when I'm at another location to install here? I can't seem to find anything about that?

...and the monthly is supposed to be 30 days? Not many times a day? I will do the annual next time, but had no idea I was going to have extra issues by paying monthly. Logically I'd expect an annual payment to keep Photoshop authenticated for 364 days as long as it is the same computer. Why 99 days? Can I switch midstream?
I won't mention what I'd really like is to go back to perpetual licenses That is the correct answer IMO, but Adobe has spoken. Notice I said that with a smile.
I have no local network to deal with, just the computer I use directly connected to a router alone. I am the business; my staff of 5 or 6 and myself that is. Our network involves yelling hey (fill in the name) across the office. I gave up the corporate grind 28 years ago.
It's been fine for the last few tries after having issues as often as three or four times an hour last week. No changes have been made between when it was really problematic and now that it seems to be OK. Could it be an incompatibility with some other software? It does seem random and I've seen this off and on for two years. I had the full boat CC for the first year and this same thing happened inexplicably every few weeks. Seems to be related to updates to the actual CC utility, but I'm no techie, I shoot photo's and market products.
For now it's OK as I'll just use the copy of 6 I own in the field.
Thanks so much for staying with this. I'm good and you can close this out.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit) fresh install, only WLAN and video driver installed but EXTREMELY slow internet connection...

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
    o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!
Thanks in advance to all and for any advice.
    <script id="ncoEventScript" type="text/javascript">function DOMContentLoaded(browserID, tabId, isTop, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) { object.DOMContentLoaded(browserID,

    if(null != object) object.Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url); }; </script>

Thank you for responding. As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
    my Asus machine.
    <script id="ncoEventScript" type="text/javascript">function DOMContentLoaded(browserID, tabId, isTop, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) { object.DOMContentLoaded(browserID,
