WRV200 Ignores DNS Settings

Hi all,
I have recently got my VPN to work working however I need to get works DNS in. I have configured these in the interface manually and it just ignores the settings and gets standard ones. Is their a way i can either:
1) Assign the DNS of work on my local machine
OR
2) Force it to read this setting?
I have upgraded to the latest firmware and I can ping my router from my work machine, just not the other way round.
Cheers
Mat

Hi… Are you able to ping to the WAN IP address at the office? If not, then you office router does not allow you to ping. You need to check that out with Network Admin at your Office. About the DNS servers, Once your VPN is established, your DNS settings will come into picture and you would then be able to test if the router is able to communicate with this DNS or not. Without the VPN connection, assigning a DNS server would have no effect whatsoever. If you assign a DNS server in the Static DNS settings on the router it should work. If not you can simply assign a DNS server on your PC. In that case you would need to assign one DNS server from ISP and second one be the work DNS.

I have set the default DNS settings of my RV220W Cisco router to OpenDNS servers.
However, on selected hosts I would like to bypass OpenDNS.
For example, on a Windows 7 I am using Google DNS. I setup network configuration and tested it with "nslookup microsoft.com", it shows the DNS server as being "Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com" with IP address of 8.8.8.8.
But for some sites I get blocked by OpenDNS. Which suggests that the router is ignoring the host DNS preference.

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • Hallelujah, finally disabled OOPP. I use Firefox 9.0.1 and will not upgrade to anything that ignores my settings. Been looking for this info for years!

As soon as Firefox came out with OOPP, I immediately asked how to permanently disable it and had a Firefox developer straight-up lie to me and say it couldn't be done without downgrading. Thank GOODNESS for the instructions on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/713600?page=1 Finally, finally I have excised the hated OOPP!
I run Firefox 9.0.1 and will not upgrade, ever, unless I see signs that Mozilla has radically altered its development direction and discarded most of the boneheaded, broken, anti-user development that has gone into versions more recent than Firefox 1.x. Actually making your mission statement more than an empty promise might be a good place to start.
Let's see...anything else? Oh yeah, any developer who advocates overriding or ignoring user settings, or taking control away from the user, should be kicked off the team. (and investigated as a possible Government mole, but that's a lot to ask for). I hear Konqueror and Safari are looking for new devs. It gets old fast when you try to get support and instead get haughty "You're doing it wrong, stop doing that" responses. I'm doing exactly what I intend to be doing and if you can't support that, someone else will. If you really gave a damn about your users, you might start by backporting security fixes to previous versions instead of spewing out a cacophony of incompatible new versions so rapidly you end up confusing and alienating users and making them switch updates off entirely. I mean seriously, what happens when Firefox hits triple digits? You could stick a decimal in front of it, and name that build after a historic baseball player who had that batting average. But even then you will run out of players in a few months.
It's truly sad. I switched to Firefox because it was the best browser. But Firefox has been backsliding horribly since around 2.0, and the other browsers seem to be in about the same boat. Firefox IS still the best browser - but only if you use an ancient, unsupported version. That's a big problem.

Using an obsolete version released [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/9.0.1/releasenotes/ December 11th 2011] is the exact definition of downgrading. It exposes your system to all the security vulnerabilities that have been fixed since then.
    * https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html
Out-of-process plug-ins was made mandatory on Windows Vista and later because Adobe don't test Flash Player's protected mode with OOPP disabled. This change didn't happen until Firefox 14, so there was no need to go as far back as Firefox 9.0.1.
If you absolutely have to, you can disable OOPP by creating the ''MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS'' environment variable and setting its value to '''1'''. Firefox must be restarted for the change to take effect. This works in the current version of Firefox, so there's no need to use obsolete insecure versions.<br>
If you don't know how to create an environment variable, see the following article for instructions (the "Using the Custom Environment Variable" section is not relevant).

  • VPN Client and DNS settings

    Hello,
here are few posts (quite some time ago) telling the same trouble:
The VPN Client does *NOT* restore the original DNS settings.
Upon BM3.8.2 Massimo told, that this is a bug in that version of the VPN
client. I face this issue with 3.8.16 and nwclient 4.91.4 with or without
the three currently available hotfixes [1]
Anybody else facing this trouble with the current VPN client release?
May be an older one works better, any experiences?
This trouble is fact even after clean disconnects. But it happens only now and then,
I might need to try it 50 times to see it once.
a followup in CMD boxes with ipconfig /all does show, that the times
to restore the original DNS settings vary from 2 to 30 seconds. Mostly about 5 seconds.
Massimo also told, that a "VPN-down" due to a Win-Shutdown can cause this: So is
there a possibility to trigger a "clean-VPN down" in the Win-shutdown sequence?
As a workaround I packed this line into all users "run" key:
netsh int ip set dns name="LAN-Verbindung" source=dhcp
so at least after a reboot it's corrected.
    Any suggestions appreciated,

    Hello Craig,
    thanks for your answer.
[VPN Client sometimes doesn't restore DNS settings after disconnecting]
e.g. TID 10096552 is telling such a trouble, that should be fixed with
    BM VPN Client 3.8.10

    > There used to be a utility designed to clean up after the VPN client,
    > but I can't remember now what it was. I never tried it that I can
    > remember.
Anybody else who knows about that tool?
After doing some "teachment" to these VPN users the incidents of this
trouble didn't show up as frequent as before. So I assume, that one
    reason might be this:
    Scenario
    VPN connect
PCA connect to host in corporate LAN
PCA full screen *SHOULD* be activated (ALT+ENTER)
    working, working, working
    shutdown PC in corporate LAN
    close VPN tunnel
    shutdown local home office PC.
When it was missed to activate PCA fullscreen without noticing this,
then the "remote" start button is not visible.
So instead of shutting down the remote PC, the local PC is shut down.
By that, the local shutdown is killing (not cleanly disconnecting)
the VPN client. When this happened (and I 100% can reproduce this)
after the next boot of the home office PC the VPN connect will *ALWAYS*
fail. After another reboot the VPN connect will succeed again without
    any problems.
Is this a known issue? (I cannot find that TID I found before telling
missbehaviour when VPN connects are not disconnected clean. IIRC this
was something fixed in a VPN client version /several/ subversions ago)
Home Office PC = XPSP2+Hotfixes, VPN Client BM 3.8.16, nici from that
one first, now taken from NWClient 4.91.4, no difference.

  • How do I change the DNS settings to BC but keep the MX setting for emails?

How do I change the DNS settings to Business Catalyst but keep the MX settings for emails?
I'm basically created anew site using Muse and want to host it on BC and upgraded to the Web basics + to allow for hosting of downloadable pdf's etc.
There are up to 50+ emails address set up on the current set up and I want to just change the NDS settings for the domain to ponit to the new site/hosting an not have to worry about them chaning all the meail settings etc.
Records do I need to change in BC?
    Thanks
    Iain

    Hi,
You shouldn't need to do anything as long as you do not state hosting email with BC.  Just ensure to check you DNS in a lookup tool that it's still referencing your external email service.
Otherwise you can set up external email set-up if the option is present.

  • No DNS settings when using built-in (hardwired) ethernet

Iv'e never had an issue with wireless operation, but now that a wired connection is necessary, I've run into something strange.
When connecting to a LAN with a DHCP source providing IP, router, DNS settings and more, the ibook fails to populate the DNS settings. I've got a valid IP and gateway address but no DNS servers are defined. I can put them in manually, but that would require me to change them each time I connect to a different wired network instead of relying on DHCP to do it's job.
Has anybody else seen this issue?

If (as you say "is the case") this is a small, Netgear cable router...then the Netgear will be acting as DNS server. Likely the Netgear is getting a dynamic IP address from ISP, or it's been set with static values the ISP has told the homeowner to enter into the Netgear. Either way, DNS will be provided to Netgear, and the Netgear should be sending the DNS on down to the client computers.
(Do you "see" any DNS server info in the Configuration panel when you're on wireless? If so, what IP address is that DNS server?)
Why does it work wireless, but not cabled?
You really need to go into SystemPreferences>Network>Configure...and tell us what you have configured in the eth0, or built-in Ethernet section.
It might not be a bad idea to reboot the mac after you plug in ethernet...probably not needed, but we don't know enough about your network settings.
You also say you can't access sites by name. Can you hit a website using an IP address in the Safari addressBar?

  • Office 2010 Ignores Printer Settings

I've seen this problem posted other places with no real resolution presented. - Here it is -
Ever since installing office 2010 I have several end users / customers that are unable to successfully keep print settings changed in Office 2010.  The settings in office 2010 themselves work fine, but if you try to change the printer properties they
get reset as soon as you change them.  An example is network MFPs that are set to B/W by default.  The customer changes to color on the printer properties, but word and excel seem to ignore those settings.  Acutally worse than ignore they reset
them to the default properties for the printer.  If you click on the properites, change them, click ok - then before printing I click on the properties again and they have already been reset.  This is a big issue for several customers - they need
to access the properties to set to color, change other settings, or use shortcut items for specific types of document printing.
Also, the problem didn't exist until they installed office 2010.  They can print successfully from any other application with the ability to change any settings needed.
    David

    Hello all,
I think I may have a solution for your problem. The actual problem exists in office 2003 and was an easy fix but I have been ratting my brains since I started doing tech support for MFD finding in office 2010, I would see the problem know the solution but
not be able to find the properties in office seeing they move them. A client would click on print select tray 2 or options and office would seem to ignore it. My work around was to get them to print to PDF then print there item selecting the print options
they wanted through print driver properties.
In 2003 office you click File ---> Page Setup ----> then click the paper tab page and depending on your printer you will get options like
    Default Print settings
    Auto
    Tray 1
    Tray 2 etc
and a paper drop down box A4 A3 etc. This was a real problem as if it was on A4 and they where trying to print a3 selecting it through the print driver the MFD would ask for A4 paper instead of A3.
Ok so in 2007 2010 office this is where the options are causing the problem I only found it on thursday and as I dont have 2010 office at home I will have to double check these menu options when I am at another client but I should get it close enough for
    you to find.
Click OFFICE icon in office word go to print, there is a rectagular box I believe it was called WORD OPTIONS or Office Options. next there is a lot of tab options, Advance is the one you want. Click on ADVANCE. Scroll right down and you will see
    print and copy options.
Here you will see you overiding options
and it will be based on the print driver you have selected
Default Printer Options (Usually the one it is on) but I believe auto is what you want.
    Auto
    Tray 1
    Tray 2 etc
Also there is a few check box options I have not played with yet but one that caught my eye that was checked was along the lines of Shrink all print to A4 I would un check this.
So this is where you problem should be solved. Please keep in mind they I only just found this out so I do need to play around with the options a little more to understand there full affect but I think what I said is pretty accurate. I will re post and edit
    if I find other wise.
Something else to note. I believe having the Default Printer Options selected is the main problem. I believe this means if you are in office and you click print ---> print properties and select all the options you want it does not mean a damm,
because these word options under page setup(2003) and Advanced (2010) actually grabs the print drivers default setting i.e start ----> Control panel ----> printers and device then what ever options are set there will overide all other options you set
in the print driver from word.
I have only played with this on 2010 in word, did not check if the options are there for excel and access but I guessing its standard. Have fun let me know how you go.

  • Aperture ignores the settings Picture Control of my camera

    Hello.
I am a professional photographer. I would like to use Aperture 3 in my professional career, but I can not because of this problem: When I import files from my Nikon D300 to Aperture, the program ignores the settings Picture Control of my camera. As a result, I can not use the potential of my camera. This forces me to do extra steps that take time. The recommendation not to use the Piсture Сontrol in my camera and use the presets and settings from Aperture no good for me because I dynamically change both standard and created by myself Picture Control settings directly at the shooting.
How to set up Aperture to read and save settings Picture Control from my camera?
    Sincerely,
    Ulyaschenkov Nikita

I have no doubt that you would say.
    Blame Nikon?
Will the aperture to solve this problem in the future? I hope so.
I do not think this problem is an unsolved problem.
Of course, if the Aperture will want to do it. If the Aperture has a desire to get better and better.

  • DNS Settings have Changed with Snow Leopard Update

Before I upgraded to SL, I was able to append a DNS server to the list of servers that my MacBook Pro acquired from the DHCP server. This way, I didn't have to manually edit my DNS settings all the time when I was in the office and wanted to access our lab network by name. Now after the upgrade, I have to remove all manually entered DNS servers before it will use the DNS servers given to it by the DHCP server. Is there a way that I can always append my lab DNS server to the list given to me by DHCP?
    Thanks,
    John

I am on or office wireless network which handles the DHCP lease and DNS addressing, but I am an engineer in the office and access the lab often and we have another DNS server in the lab to handle all of the lab network. The Sales folk don't need access to the lab so the DHCP server doesn't give out the lab dns server... I would like to access the lab via name, not IP, so I need the lab DNS server on my list of servers. If I can't append this to the DHCP list, I have to manually add all three every time I am in the office. I am frequently out at customer/vendor sites and use thier wireless, so I get thier DNS list.
Short answer is I need our lab DNS server on the list and frequently move from network to network... I want it to work the way it was before the "upgrade", which wasn't much of an "upgrade" if it breaks this. I want my Leopard back.

  • Changing Upstream DNS settings

I have an Xserve running OS X Server 10.4.11 and want to change the upstream DNS setting form my ISP's to OpenDNS. The DNS settings in Server Admin don't seem to provide this option and from what I've read, the system Network DNS setting must point to the internal DNS server.
I've read some reports that advocate editing /etc/named.conf but the exsiting file is very sparse and doesn't contain any forwarder entries.
Where the heck are these things set?
    - Tim

    Thanks Antonio
The Server Admin settings for 10.4 DNS are significantly different than 10.3.9 but the basic info is similar. Everything I read says I must edit the /etc/named.conf file and add the forwarders, but my named.conf file has no forwarder entries yet my DNS server DOES query my ISP's DNS for outside addresses. This must be set somewhere ... but where?
This is all there is in the named.conf file
// Declares control channels to be used by the rndc utility.
// This must be enabled on Mac OS X Server for Server Status to provide valid
// information! (Remove the leading slashes to enable.)
// ** STUFF YOU MIGHT NEED TO ENABLE **
    controls {
    // unix "/var/run/ndc" perm 0600 owner 0 group 0;
As you can see, there is none of the stuff you would expect, so it must be being done elsewhere.
